the firing pin needs to smack the end of the cartridge in order for the bullet to fire & fly out of the barrel

if you stick your finger where the bullet is supposed to go, and you DON'T feel anything, worst case scenario is that somehow, against all odds, the cartridge (which is noticeably wider than the barrel) got jammed into the barrel deep enough to where you cannot feel it
