I could tell you "just learn language, it would be useful", but it is useful if you know english. Russian is only useful for untranslated stalker mods or when you have conversation with russians.

Learning German was very useful for understanding English despite being a native English speaker
So maybe it's more useful for languages closer to Russian

Your enemies are loners, duty, and the usual, but when you do brain scorcher, loners will be chill with you
And you get the 3 main quests
they seem to be identical to freedom then
Loners is also fun but you will have mercs as a enemy
Play as a loner if you want a good challenge yet want main path
Merc is harder at the start but gets easier

i've been able to set goals for myself in regards to upgrading weapons but now that i've got the tools there's not much to do
problem is gameplay is getting boring too, every problem is solved with a shotgun+sniper rifle

and since freeplay modders are too busy adding random garbage I dont think anyone has added it
there are some freeplay-ish mods and few story oriented CoC forks that seem to use the newer versions

Hey guys, I was trying to install some mods and I'm having a few issues. I'm running the vortex app as it seemed the easiest way to do it and installed these 3 mods. However, the game fails upon starting a new game (it boots to the menu it crashes while loading into the game). I'm not super experience in modding that's why I decided to just go with vortex, any idea why this might be happening? I'm running the game on steam in case that helps.

- are you sure all these mods are compatible with SOC and your game version
- are you sure all these mods are compatible with each other
if you are unsure of either of the 2 or 3, then most likely the answer is a flat dont use those mods

Youâre best off using either JSGME or MO2 providing you can get plugins for MO2 for said game. GME is old but probably the best mod enabler for the OG games.
I think the mod I wanted most isn't compatible with the version of the game I have so I guess I'll stick to vanilla

Your screenshots are so weird. There's a clear lack of global illumination or something like that, I know very little about graphics so I don't know the exact terminology. Everything looks like it absorbs 100% of light, like the light doesn't reflect from objects... If something isn't directly under the sun â it's pitch black... How did you even do something like that?

Yeah you definitely miss some of the gameplay enhancements in CS and CoP when playing SoC. But as an overall experience it's still my favorite
SoC is unmatched in atmosphere. But CoP with all level maps unbeatable.

probably not
Different engines use different call backs to them for different things like animations, textures etc. Mods can be adapted to be used on different engines but if someone hasnât done it already then itâs up to you to do it on whatever your preferred engine is, just hope itâs an open sourced one and you can learn how to do it yourself.

No, because the the levels have to be compiled for the engine, me and someone more tested the IX-Ray with Valley of Whispers and a other mod and the IX-Ray 1.2 crashes, but the engine admits mods as Absolute Nature 4

According to our tests, the problem was in the shaders, the other who tried a mod that was configured as "DLC"' of CoP and it crashing for him
Yeah IX-Ray does change shaders and a lot of other stuff
It changes the games visual in many ways
@civic pewter like shaders used on the level geometry, the ones stored in the .lvl? you can change/remove ones that crash. For example i recall a crash with one of the labs when porting to CoP that can be fixed by removing reference to dx8 shader
It's true if making levels, you need the same binaries as used in game if the abstract classes had changes to them. But if not, if no changes were made to data structure, then it may be possible to hexedit chunk headers to match version of a known working level. But this is pro hacker stuff. And even say if they changed a class to add new stuff, you theoretically can fix spawn chunk in level binary manually. Anything possible if you know how. Might have to mod this way if they changed too much in EE because they probabaly aren't giving us a new SDK.
Aye, a good example of that would me TheMrDemonized with modded exe's, dude's worked some black magic with that old engine.

CoC was first huge freeplay mod
Bangalore spent years importing SoC/CS levels to CoP SDK and renamed thousands of waypoints, add new ones, new smart terrains, etc. to work with CoP dynamic gulag. I had to overhaul gulag_general.script and smart_terrain.script to optimize it for mass simulation. But this is the basis of break through in CoP modding. Bangalore is an unsung hero, he did the manual labor.

Planning to give these Enhanced Editions a play then go back to some type of free play mod until S2 is more ready in another 6 months or so

I assumed CoC is mad creaky since it hasn't been updated since 2016 and Hella freeplay mods build on what that does, does it hold up still. I heard it feels kind of empty
I do think all the modding makes people kind of lose sight of what GSC were trying to do with the OG games, so I like checking out mods that feel as if they're true to the OG vision

ehh, it was a trend before, it was a trend during and it will keep being a trend, its the specific kind of survival taht is characteristic to Misery that grates on people

Misery 2.0 is actually based on Massive Simulation Overhaul, a mod I and Trojanuch made for early CoP. Nicolai Aaroe likes to take all credit since he is a marketing mastermind. Trojanuch was basically the designer, he worked on configs and told me what to implement. All scripted changes I did. I can't remember why but Trojanuch and I had a falling out most likely due to mod direction. Trojanuch retired from modding after one of the later iterations.
N aaroe also pissed me off too
So I grabbed Bangalore and made the mod we wanted to make.

They found new people, did okay. It's a great influential mod but never was my cup of tea.

However, I would really like to understand the correct and official way to create and pack mods specifically for this version.
Should I study or use something like the X-Ray SDK or another specific toolset?
My main goal is to learn how to:

Anyone tried merging some weahter mods? Tried CGIM 2 (merging level_weather.script from CGIM and vanilla), bloom is so strong that sky is essentialy a white bright canvas. Guess, it's a shader issue. Any help?

SurDno said simply changing level name made them return. Out of curiosity I looked at exe with Ghidra and didn't see anything obvious, no level name comparisons.

messing around with the AKS74U model, fixed up the shading and polishing up the texture some (mostly on the dust cover so far but other bits too)
COMPLETE? I can't believe people even still mention this extremely outdated mod. It hasn't been relevant and even when it was released it had huge backlash on GSC forums for being crap;.
here's how the shading compares, it's really busted on the original. i'll probably add some of the details from the texture onto the model but i didn't wanna re-rig it yet so i just edited the normals on the rigged EE model in Blender

The game was likely ported over to DX12 as early as the Xbox ports came out
