if you want to argue in lore both can be said to yield the same income except if you take into consideration that killings may happen for artifacts, in which case, youre not hunting artifacts

the only game that made artifact hunting the defactor money printing machine was CoP due to how easy you could respawn an artifact, and how easy to find them was, which made the entire ordeal trivial
but even in this case killing and firefights are emphasized

you compeltely disregard the fact that killing happens outside missions as many factions are at odds with each other so you are not killing 1 person, you will be killing much more which you can then sell their weapons, ammo and equipment

plus any artifacts they may have in them

you seem to think artifact hunting can only be done on request as well which is also untrue as most hunting in SoC is done while walking and completing quests, like fighting humans

which is one of the main pillars of gameplay in SoC

are you making a logic argument and focusing your entire argument on one single area rather than speaking about either lore or gameplay and having the entire argument be done for the game as a whole

Looks out of place and very edgy. The games have an established style for mutants, with them mostly being either lab created monsters (with varying amount of human traits - controllers and burers having the most, being former humans, and bloodsuckers/chimeras/pseudogiants to a lesser extent, as they're ||probably|| tube grown abominations) or normal animals mutanted thanks to radiation. So these fantastical fleshy creatures stick out like a sore thumb.
I can't wait to see new mutants, but I hope they will be in line with the present aesthetic.

I guess them being thoughtforms akin to a tulpa would make some sense, given the Noosphere instability in the Zone paired with the strong feelings, mostly negative ones, being present by those inhabiting it could cause for something like that to come to existence, if GSC goes back to the more fantastical roots from the days of Oblivion Lost.
But I really don't see these wood demons being made by the Group in a lab. At least the Universal soldier program that created some of the meaner mutants we see makes some sense. I also don't see this being created by radiation, Stalker has been pretty grounded for what it is, a lot of the phenomenal things we see have some sort of a logical, if not a (partial) scientific explanation. For exampe, Herman saying fleshes could not simply be a mutated pig as it'd take hundreds of years for such traits to develop. So a lovechild of Carpenter's Thing and a Doom demon could not have popped out just because ten years have passed.
Another possibility is them being a projection made by some sort of psy energy
