Play STALKER Vanilla before playing Anomaly, because you will also be partially spoiled, also because you don't really know the Zone and such, my best advice is to complete the trilogy in vanilla (without mods) first, start with STALKER Shadow of Chernobyl, it cost few bucks on Steam or GOG, you will also have the chance to support GSC and the UAF

Don't let the graphics trick you, don't judge a game but its graphics, play STALKER Shadow of Chernobyl (SoC) without mods, only download ZRP (Zone reclamation project) which is basically a community bugfixes patch

Even if SoC does have some 2007 graphics, it's a great game with a great story and gameplay

Definitely wouldn’t be bad. I just hope they don’t go the Steam-only route. Achievements are nice because they enable different gameplay behavior within players, but in-game achievements (especially when they’re implemented the way they were in CoP) feel much more rewarding.

Loved how each achievement in CoP gave you a unique-ish bonus. Renewable supplies in this area, extra damage to X type of enemy, more HP to the essential character at the end.

i don't exactly have a definitive favorite faction, but i have some "inclinations" towards loners, mercs and the military

loners are just cool people, generally you can trust them and embrace their camaraderie

mercs are tacticool, but they're basically just assholes, or as everybody likes to put it, bandits in fancy suits

the military are theorically the most powerful and numerous force in the zone, but they're lagging behind because of the corruption that's present between them
when i'm playing as a faction that's enemy to them, i also find them to be assholes lol

Duty wants to contain the zone and possibly destroy it which is understandable seeing the stuff within, freedom wants it open to all so the good can help humanity which some artifacts have already in lore

So they conflict on that ideology and have had wars over it

While it's dangerous and full of mutants and anomalies some of them have useful properties like some can heal wounds and cure cancer

And iirc the urchin artifact is used on scientist suits to make them more resistant to the anomalies
