Well I've gotten the hang of it after much trials and tribulations and fired up SOC yesterday to get the real experience. Am I wrong or are the main games alot less simmy/hardcore? The only mods I have installed for it were the starter pack and community bugfix, so it's as close to vanilla as possible.

One example is your faction leaving the enemy base in CS after the factions war is finished, making it start all over again. It is intentional game design decision already documented in desdocs.
Sometimes you can't know how to fix an bug because there is not enough info in the game files. You know of the bug, but you do not know what was supposed to be the right behaviour.

I prefer to have the option to manually select the language within the game; gives you freedom to change between languages with a single mouse click instead of the file replacement fuss
