Basically, I think 76 had an incredibly amount of potential with the player base creating the world. Player made factions, people creating their own stories, their own Fallout experiences, unscripted and fully crafted by them. The problem is Bethesda didn’t do anything for most players to get that experience. My experience with 76 was phenomenal. I joined up with this player-created Mafia faction through an old friend of mine, and it was an incredible time for the year or so I was involved. We pulled off heists, battled and negotiated with other factions, made deals, met all sorts of crazy characters. It was like we were making our own story in fallout. I’ve actually started writing a story inspired by the events that happened in the game. The problem is that maybe 90% of players don’t get the experience that I got. They do the actual main story quests with the holotapes and the robots, they do the grind and the daily quests, all that lower quality crap. The real meat of Fallout 76 is through interactions with the faction community, where you create your own stories. But Bethesda did nothing to direct players towards that experience. There could’ve been in-game systems for creating actual player factions (rather than just organizing everything in discord), they could’ve done all sorts of things to direct players to interact with each other and create these stories but they didn’t
and all that potential, very few got to experience it
a wasted opportunity imo. Regardless, I still think it’s a good game now, there’s a lot of enjoyment to be had
