CS is hard, but it becomes a lot easier if you just don't partake in the faction wars. It's definitely worth playing though, it arguably does the most to flesh out the factions, their leaders & their mission in the Zone than either of the other two. It's honestly the reason it seems to get memed the least, both Krylov & Chekov are fantastically well done and very likable! 👍

People do seem to really like them, in all honesty. They just make me go "Aww man not again" every time they're mentioned. This extends to various mods I've played as well now, in fact I imagine Hip begins has to try really hard not to burst into tears laughing whenever some rando says they need me to go do something in the Swamps. 😁

Firstly: They share the same slot, you can only actively use your detector OR your geiger counter.
Secondly: Both perform some of their functions while in your inventory; Detectors beep while near anomalies, geigers tick while near radiation. The latter can also give you a quick reading if you press a button, although I can't remember the default.
Thirdly: If you aren't getting any anomaly detection noises then you might have to enable this in the settings. I can't remember if it's on by default or not.

It's got everything! Beautiful views, modern amenities like a campfire pit & TWO mattresses, spacious enough to add some roller-racking for the documents, friendly neighbours (the Controller under the bridge to the North pops around sometimes to borrow some sugar), nearby anomaly fields supplying me with all the Shells & Nightstars I could possibly need, and the roof even has spots where there aren't holes! 😁

Nah man, Darkscape has everything! The Bridge! The Farmhouse! The rusting Mi-26! The slowly-melting petrol station! The strange yellow hill! Geoff the Controller under the bridge up North! The rare phenomenon where Karliks come out every Thursday night and randomly create pyramids of crates in some sort of ritualistic act of worship! The anomaly cluster the just seems to do nothing but hum and spit out extremely rare-and-deadly Death Lamps! Everything! 😁

edgy jasper any good artifacts in the anomaly known as Stalker modding?

I'm having a wicked-fun time with OLR ("Oblivion Lost Remake") which has been recommended to me by a good few people on here! It's a retelling of the SoC story using the original characters and concepts from the (cancelled?) first STALKER game called "Oblivion Lost". I'd highly recommend it, although good Mr Slyth tells me that "Oblivion Lost: Zone of Alienation" is the same thing but more stable, better translated & better balanced. 👍

I'm gonna likely finish OLR then play OL:ZoA either just before or sometime after slightly I've had a play around with Cyberpunk 2077.

timeline-wise the order would be Clear sky - Shadow of Chernobyl - Call of Pripyat. Each game is part of a whole story seen from the viewpoint of a diff. protagonist.
But it is suggested to play in the order of release (SoC- CS- CoP) to understand and enjoy it better

@wicked current @sand fiber Freedom aggro on something on the far side of the map when I first load it, they then either wander over & get minced immediately in anomalies, wander out of bounds and never come back, or just stand there permanently aggro'd and refusing to talk to me...I spent about an hour plus another half of one trying to fix it but it's not having it. So I've given up & started VoA instead. Hopefully that kink will get ironed out with this new 3.0! 😝

It doesn't seem to say. I'd imagine you'll need a copy of SoC installed so it can get around the engine licensing, I pretty sure CoC does something like this.
Have you tried downloading the mod to access the readme it talks about? That might be the best way.

Crashing & instability is kind of the accepted consequences of S.T.A.L.K.E.R. modding, I find. The engine is veeeeeeery sensitive and, while it may well run fine vanilla, mods can upset it, although by exactly how much is some kind of anomalous value that appears to change when observed. Quantum physics-style! 😁

Well you can disable the Fast Travel option that disallows it when enemies are nearby & you can issue commands to them (your companions) via your PDA so you don't need to be right next to them.

I get you mate, I've had the same issue with Hip. But the Fast Travel worked for me so give that a go. If that doesn't work then try getting them to wait , going right next to the level zone at the far end (where you find Ghost in OG SoC / leave for the tunnels), then telling them to follow you, waiting ~10 seconds, then zoning through that hole shouls put them next to you in the tunnel beneath Yantar.
