I like the look of base S.T.A.L.K.E.R. so I couldn't give you any advice on graphics mods, simply cos I never look at them. As for optimisations, there's a mod called the (I think) "Zone Reclamation Project" or "ZRP" which is a collection of stability & bug fixes. It's basically a community patch. I don't use it because I haven't had any real trouble with running any of the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. games, but I know of a handful of people who use it cos they have had issues with the game running reliably.

@finite dragon base/vanilla game is fine. If you'll play through you will see that Clear Sky has a lot better graphics as well. Though fyi if you play Clear Sky, don't crank the lighting to max as dx10 in it is broken

It's an old game so some issues should be expected. Although you are playing on integrated graphics & using a modern CPU so, I'd go as far as to argue, that it's your hardware that's at fault not the game engine... 😕

That may well be the case, but that technology didn't exist when the game was made so the engine cannot make use of it, hence why you're having performance issues...
My only suggestion is to see if you can find an official AMD...I dunno what to call it, control centre perhaps? Something that lets you tweak how the processor handles the game. I've got a discrete GPU with it's own command line so, if a game isn't able to take advantage of the full thing, I can tweak the settings so that it can.
Unfortunately late 2000s gaming isn't quite as straight forward as true retro gaming, you can't necessarily just solve issues by increase your system's power... 😦

No, sorry. Poor attempt at conflating my GPU settings to your CPU settings. Don't bother overclocking it, as I said more power isn't what you're looking for here. What I was attempting to get at was you need compatibility not power. My GPU has a slew of settings that allow it to more effectively run OpenGL games or older games that don't understand the new fancy tech it has, for example. I was trying to suggest finding something like that...Albeit not very well, it seems! 😅
