Pfff...Crikey. Heck of a question. There's like a ton of things I love about 'em. Atmosphere is the obvious one, I guess; it's almost completely indescribable but the Zone just feels fantastic, you know?
It's funny you mention graphics, actually. Me and a mate of mine were discussing the last week; the games look really good, even unmodded. The graphics serve their purpose fantastically, almost with a Brutalist element to them; You aren't going to really be up close and peering at the wall textures all that much so there isn't any need to make them 4000p poly-fractal 18,000GB ultra HD, instead they make them look just enough like a wall that when you're going through a ruin you glance at the back and can go, with certainty, "that's a wall" and move on.

I can honest-to-God see what he means. The textures aren't really 'beautiful' in the typical sense, but, like Brutalist architecture, they serve a function - To portray the world. And, again, they do it beautifully without making your GPU need the souls of the damned to run it! A wall looks like a wall, a truck looks like a truck, a door looks like a door, you get up really close and examine it and you're gonna see the flaws in the texture, but if you aren't & you're just playing normally then everything just looks as it should do in real life, even on the lower settings! 😄

@gusty trench I guess I should add; another thing that sticks out is the story, it's some of the best Sci-Fi story & lore I've ever seen if you ask me. And it's really well written and well put together; you can see how the games all link up with each other and there are plenty of little dangling edges that don't seem to be attached to anything but may well be. There's intrigue sprinkled everywhere, you know there's a mountain of stuff they (GSC, the characters in game, etc) aren't telling us but you really want to know!

Aye but you get that with most everything, I'd even argue that what an artist / writer actually writes or creates is never perfectly matches what exactly he thought.
And in those instances the subtext isn't massively needed. Sure it'd be nice, but language and stuff has a few universal quirks to it just due to human nature; so I knew 'cheeki breeki' was an insult or a taunt even before I knew what it meant cos the guy is screaming it at me while reloading his shotgun in a firefight. I know the people around the campfires are telling stories cos that's just what you do around a campfire, or telling jokes cos they laugh.

Meh, I doubt that. Back in CS, Free Stalkers volunteered to hold the Barrier. With Freedom getting a hold on the Army Warehouses, they were able to better hold the position. Free Stalkers still volunteer to hold the Barrier like before.

Is there any total story mode in anomaly. I played cop through few years back and shadow of chernobyl mostly but clear sky for example is mostly unolayed by me. Stalker is sick good. And. Nothing really compares atmosphericl, especially when playing it in 3d

I suspect there isn't any standard size or design for them. The technology was still more-or-less being fleshed out and tested before 2006. There could be others as massive as the Rainbow / Brain Scorcher, or there could be much smaller ones scattered around the place. A few of the dinky ones we see in X-18 placed in a dense forest would make for a very nasty set up, if you ask me...
