And I'm quite unusual in that Metro really rubbed me up the wrong way. Unlike games like S.T.A.L.K.E.R. & Fallout, I was really quite upset that you really couldn't explore much of the map. It also felt...Small to me, since it was linear and you were shuffled from place-to-place, I never really got a good sense of scale like you can get with the aforementioned S.T.A.L.K.E.R. & Fallout...

yeah, Metro isn't really meant to be an open-world game though - it's very, very story and atmosphere driven. 10x better if you read the books first
but I do agree it would've been sweet if the games were more open ended, Exodus tried something like that but once you're done with an area you usually can't come back so it's not true open world

My first time playing CS, Strelok climbed down from the power plant and then tried to climb back up but couldn't do so
So I just stood on that long bridge hallway thing and just shot him until he died

S2 from 2009-2011 and S2 2018-2021 are different things
And about new stuff, we don't know about S2 anything, maybe there will be even Eastern/Western/Northern part of the Zone.
Perhaps there will be locations, that were in canon, but weren't in the original games, like Dead City, Darkscape, another parts of Pripyat.

However, I still use them as a basis for S2 speculation, as we don't have ANYTHING concrete about the new S2, besides a couple of pics and a cinematic teaser
The only thing that would make this method of speculation 100% invalid is if GSC had a big change in the concept, design, work ethic etc.
Something like Valve did before Half Life Alyx, where in the end they shipped a radically different game than the ones that came before it, practically retconning the series
As for stalker, look at the oblivion lost builds and the end product

Anarchy Cell desdoc, while it ended up being mostly unused, some stuff made if to Clear Sky, like there being an off-map faction (Clear Sky) or there being faction wars
I do not believe that the desdocs for S2 have been fully thrown away
It would be completely asinine to not use at least some aspects, instead opting to completely work out a whole new concept, without anything from the old concept
Unless of course, they just want to make Anomaly 2 instead
Hence why GSC is recreating old locations

I believe that what GSC actually means is that the general plot is actually scrapped. The whole deal with mercs trying to control the Zone and there being a secret benefactor and stuff
Even though they HAVE to include some parts of the old desdocs in order to maintain continuity with Call of Pripyat's good ending
Mercs raiding labs, Strelok working for the government, Degtyrev continuing to work in the Zone, Ecologists making massive breakthroughs, Skadovsk being northern 100 rads bar, Nitro and Cardan making a car, etc.
Some of that were in the desdocs and it absolutely must be included in order for the story between CoP and S2 to make sense
So therefore, in my opinion, it's perfectly fine to speculate based on the old desdocs, since they have some aspects that may be included and some that must be included
And clearly the whole plot has been thrown away since it has been spoiled anyways

Well, you always know what kind of artifact you get when you know the nature of the anomaly. You don't know what artifact you'll get, though. I assume getting high-tier artifacts would spawn more rare artifacts, but I wouldn't know
I mean, I think it would be possible to have three types of dangers it could spawn
Ambient damage, a low-tier anomaly and a high-tier anomaly
Like, a Moonlight artifact spawning a localized psi-fracture, a Jellyfish creating a radiation hotspot, a Gravi generating a Vortex, etc.

Now that I think about it, S2 will be at a crossroads of
-staying loyal to their fan base and keeping many old mechanics like the mirrored charging handle and other original stalker mechanics which are outdated compared to modern day games
Or
-changing their formula to appeal to the modern gaming audience and adding new and modern features that might possibly shove away some original, veteran stalker players that were looking for a more “closer to the original” experience
Im fairly certain that the original stalker players would stick around if the latter of the options was S2 developers choice
