Short answer: You suck at this game.
Long answer: there is a handful of various variables that affect it. With each bullet going into the same place, it deals less and less damage. Shooting most body parts deals very little to none damage, so aiming at the head is essential. Some areas (fingers) do not take damage at all, and you often shoot at fingers when enemies play 'just got injured' animation. Besides, if you shoot a bullet stealthily (unseen, without moving for at least a second), the shot goes right into the center of your screen, and you should take advantage of that.
So don't shoot very often and always aim at the head. Three shots maximum.

Of coarse weapons of high caliber and explosive-based can cause heavy damage, bullets like 5.45 or 5.56 just don’t seem to hit hard for torso or limbs( my experience of coarse).

i think anomaly is perfect to avoid starting from start, and do story step by step, just to do 1-2 missions per day, before they release Stalker 2, is a perfect warmup

It is. That's because Duty attacks the Zone. As such, the Zone fights back

But one interesting thing which could be done in Stalker 2 to do more dynamic world - make Zone react to our actions or to actions of other factions. So the zone would start as calmer place and as the game would proceed, it would become more dangerous and harder to survive.

Also SOC starts reminding me The Elder Scrolls arena a lot. In terms that while the game brought the basic gameplay and other franchise stuff, the addons fleshed out the lore and factions. For example turned bandits from generic murderers to something else.
And I wonder if GSC planned to do something more with faction system at SOC, because it seems out of place there, due majority of relationships being already done for us and the main quest is linear. 🤔
I remember reading that originally in SOC we were supposed to join a faction, but it was cut and later restored in CS. But that still doesn´t explain the useless relationship system. Also in COP if I remember right, there relationships aren´t directly with factions, but instead with the groups. Though I didn´t kill much friendly/neutral stalkers to check it out.

There is exploit though - get artifacts giving you protection against one damage type that it goes above 100%, which means that the damage type then heals you instead and repairs your stuff.
Though I am not sure if it also works on weapons. As they aren´t damaged by you getting hit.
