They greatly improved general AI in this patch. Combat feels so good and NPC movement when travelling around etc

Never happened to me. I think the loners have never attacked me in original games unless I hurt them accidentally
That actually happened once. I was entering the labs and i saw scientists fighting the zombified stalkers, i helped kill them and once i went to loot they aimed guns and threatened me
Interesting... So far the only similar thing that happened to me was two loners getting angry at me when I've got close to the stash near them. I think that was some kind of a scripted event but if it was the actual, "real and dynamic" claiming of the loot then it's kinda cool

I had that happen to me too, i went to a tunnel going through a small mountain and a guy on a radio said to not go to his stash and to back off

Considering that NPCs couldn't pick up any items on the floor in SoC and CS... I doubt that loner was hostile to tejas because of him picking up that artifact...

Either killing ward or spark members will get you to be the boogeyman of science 
Killing in that vicinity can basically ruin your rep there. It's easy to kill resident NPCs during firefights there either by mistake or intentionally.
With the little mods we have on Xbox I say better ballistics, ncp combat overhaul, Instant aggression fix, and realistic death animations which I'm at it would I recommend Dynamic weather overhaul too
That list will probably grow as more people make better mods

I can tell you that for two seconds you are discovered and they kill you; the akm for example has a lot of recoil but I don't remember what it was like before I installed the mod.
One thing I would like to see, which I don’t know if that mod does, is unique ambient sway for each weapon. Have it be consistent patterns for a weapon, but just different for each

There's also weapon reposition tecticool but that's hit or miss for people
Had to downgrade. It kept getting worse
it's more fun when there is a slight aim challenge
when they use cover its just about peeking when they are in cover and clicking when they reveal themselves, it's too easy to just dome them when walking, so have them strafe faster.
Requires greater awareness of space and flanks, requires you to aim a little better, enemies become more spread out so you need to watch more angles

It basically involves copying the steam mods to your own mods folder in the game files to serve as a proxy 'injector' for your mods.

at that point, will definitely be the wrong decision to make. There's a
way to not kill them and not lose the Flash drive to them. However,

It's a life (when it works) can be really immersive and turning off your HUD helps too
the most immersive thing for me is talking to NPCs and feeling bad for them
how relevant do you feel realism is towards immersion
cause I've seen plenty of requests by people to make changes that are intentionally unrealistic, in order to improve immersion, but many people make suggestions that seem to only remove those layers of abstraction and steer towards realism, assuming it will make something more immersive
I've always attributed the idea of pursing realism as using our own understanding of the world to give in game actions more of an easily understandable meaning, as you can better attribute certain actions to personal feelings when the actions and responses feel more accurate to what we might feel in that situation, meaning immersion is more of a connection between the person playing and the narrative being told through gameplay itself

To me, immersion is being able to put myself into the world, either as a character or as a spectator, and have it be believable and work within its own rules. I want to feel like decisions and gameplay make sense given how the setting and world is explained through gameplay, lore, and dialogue. For I almost always make fallout LESS of an RPG mechanically and more toward a more or less hardcore survival game. Humans have a set amount of health with minimal variance based on level, (this goes for the PC as well) armor is more effective, mutants have differing health pools and stays based on what would make the most sense lore wise, (bugs have minimal, as they're more of a nuisance, but are quicker. Deathclaws have high armor and are very quick, yaoi guai have massive health pools and deal tons of damage etc etc.) ammo and loot is harder to find, but the economy is more important.
My pals always give me shit for modding fallout "to just be stalker." But that's kinda how the world is portrayed imo, just with a more whacky whimsical side than a dark and depressing side.

If engagement is how well the challenge and reward systems work together to make solving those challenges fun, immersion feels like a more intrinsic satisfaction that relates to exactly that.
I guess just to call one particular thing out that comes to mind, it's the audio and audio mixing, at least when there aren't bugs causing it to misbehave. The sense of place in more than one way is pretty important and the game pretty much nails it in this regard, from the sounds of gunfire and mutants to the trees creaking in a windstorm to the reverberations when Skif's foot kicks over a tool in an enclosed space
Expectation of how the world should behave and act seems to be a big contributor.
So many mods say they aim to reduce the number of bullets needed to kill, saying it's more immersive, which makes sense if you view it as their expectation being that it should only take a couple to kill. Hence, a bullet sponge enemy breaks that immersion as it doesn't play into the dire and weak nature the setting tries to portray. Something tanking shots isn't necessarily because it's not realistic, but because the setting doesn't make it seem like everyone should have the ability to.
But mutants, anomalies and brain controlled super soldiers are fine because the setting contextualises them and makes them the norm rather than the exception
So another follow up question to this, are there cases where you would take the other route and make something less realistic in order to bolster that immersion? Since we talk about immersion often pertaining to the consistency of rules as declared by the setting, did you ever make changes to fallout or any other game that people would consider more unrealistic?
I think the key thing is for things not to feel arbitrary, imo, at least within the context of the game
This whole thing also makes the example 'This technical bug breaks my immersion' because said bug would cause the world to behave in a way that doesn't match the expectation.
None come to mind that I can think of, i do personally prefer a more realistic approach to immersion where it fits into the setting. That's just what I like myself. Uhhh id have to look through my mod list and see if I can find anything tbh. Fallout in of itself is a pretty unrealistic game so I tend to make it more realistic. For stalker I'm kinda waiting for more balanced gunplay stuff (for console) better ballistics is awesome but it trivializes mutant fights and I think those should be tough, so maybe that? I'm not sure I would go for a less realistic more immersion friendly mod personally.
I've seen some people criticisting the carry weight and stamina, saying that you can't run far and can't carry enough, and end up modding them out so they can carry lots and run for ages. That to me seems like an unrealistic change that to them somehow makes something more immersive, which did confuse me a bit
cause having those weight limits is arguably going to create more realistic inspired gameplay that fits the theme of trudging through harsh landscapes with stuff, just trying to make a living, yet somehow was treated as unimmersive
My guess is that it makes it more immersive for them because they don't need to traverse the same routes over and over again. One thing is being immersed into the game, the other thing is getting bored because of it and starting to "fall off" into the real world and start thinking about your real life? Dunno
In any case, I've had zero issues with the weight limit so far
Well I think having to run back to base to stow away or sell your stuff breaks the flow state you can get into exploring the world
my take on it was that any moment where the game doesn't feel seamless, like when a challenge interrupts your natural flow, is often considered immersion breaking

Maxed out on weapons to sell, low on ammo, avoiding fights to not incur greater repair costs or engage in fights I don't have ammo for. THAT really sells the themes of the game, so I love it. But i've seen equal comments from people saying it's just annoying

I think a lot of people mix engagement and immersion together too, understandably so. It's just tough to figure out how to separate mechanical engagement from that more atmospheric and narrative feel that immersion seems to be about when discussing things like this
I do think this is one reason in the original games that picking up weapons off enemies was never really a viable way to make money
Yeah I agree with most of this. I think the weight limit stuff is fine. Maybe a bit more stamina for sprinting but that's not a huge deal to me either. I also personally like having to trek back to deposit extra stuff I don't Wana lug around.
Is unrealistic? Yeah probably. Because in reality your stalker is just going to leave anything that wasn't a necessity ande would be a burden to carry. But since it's a game the players don't necessarily have that reaction, we want to save anything we think might be useful or valuable at all. Which in itself is unrealistic but immersive.
In fact that's why most NPC stalkers have stashes. So they DONT have to carry extra shit they don't need right now. But that's not an option for the player (unless we just reuse one of the stashes we find) so that whole gameplay loop is unrealistic.

Nobody has ever called Hand Simulator "immersive" even though it's "realistic" in how a hand moves
There has to be some level of abstraction at some point, whether that's in the controls or the UI or in how combat plays out. If it's not fun, it can't be immersive to me because I get stuck thinking "I should not play this."

Stalker also does the same, it’s balanced to support its gun system and player handicaps. People may call the backwards MP5 “immersion breaking” but that is always what stalker has been, not to mention that it is easy to get used to.
Personally I spend more time looking at the crosshair than at the ejection slot in an FPS but that's just me 😛
Imma just use gamma as an example, gamma turns stalker into a more harsh and bleak world that demands more careful consideration and thinking than the original stalkers, by changing up its economy and side quests for it. S2 however does not need to do this, as the world is inherently not getting you to do that.

Add hangfires to the game so you have to wait 10 seconds to know if it's a jam or the round just goes off late
If you try to reload a round that was just going to go off late then you take damage and weapon durability substantially drops
if you try and holster it you end up shooting yourself 🙏

I can stealth it "fine" unless I need to escape then I get like soft locked out of any opportunity to escape unseen because some monolithians have a super strict patrol route and they for some reason just can't be distracted by anything to divert them from their routes and I just have to be seen by them and leg it out

This guide is a bit outdated (7 months old), but I don't think performance has changed that much since launch. TL;DR there's very little difference between the various settings in terms of FPS or looks.

HDR is broken, the contrast is set crazy high so everything is pitch-black until there's a lot of light. You'll have to tweak the settings yourself. If your OS has an HDR calibration tool (Windows has one you can download, idk about consoles), run that first.

Personally I set contrast to be as low as possible without making dark interiors look hazy/washed out, which for my monitor is around 20% (the HDR default is 75%)

The difference between Epic and Low settings for me is all of 10 FPS

Same. Miss the crisp and legible games of that gen. Current gen feels like GTA 4 brown blurry blown out bloom slop.
UE games always feel like this to play. Just a mess. The first FF7 remake was nice for a UE game, the second is a blurry mess.
For the last several years the call from every gamer was "Why does development take so long, everyone should just use Unreal"

Patience is key
They can't maintain their shields for too long and have to recharge it every now and then. Use these moments to shoot and hide when the shield is back
It's useless to shoot them when the shield is on
I hate that they can still attack with their shield, cuz I dont remember them doing that in the original games
I feel like they attack less when their shield is off, but it may be just me

The shield makes a loud noise when up, hide until you don't hear the noise, run and magdump your shotgun
Fortunately they are rare
With spas or saiga it's 1 magdump
Even assault rifles do the job
Don't throw nades at them, they can catch nades and throw them back at you
I also hate the new ability for controllers to spawn hostile NPCs

They always had psy aura that gradually increases your psy "meter" and phantoms spawn on late stages, just like with any source of psy damage

It's not only new for controllers, every psi emission does that
Psy blockade pills give you 60 seconds of psy immunity, once again, eat a pill run and dump your arsenal

Mutants are fine in S2, I'd like to see less bloodsuckers, more boars, fleshes and snorks, and maybe 1 new mutant, mid-tier, like bloodsucker but with different twist, maybe a ranged grab that you need to dodge or something like that

But that ties generally to the fact that enemies' guns don't jam or anything like that

Also some small things in mutants behaviour, like them limping when injured or running away if they lost majority of numbers (for dogs and rats)
But I don't think that these things are a priority, community wants better a-life, better AI, stability and performance, nvgs and thermals, new guns and armor and more quests in later zones
Atleast that's my personal list of things I want, since I don't like mods very much and prefer to play developer intended experience

When I play with mods I always feel like it's "not legit"
The only one I used to use was UETools just to unglitch myself when I get stuck in terrain or when quest body with the key just never spawns or clips through terrain, that is clearly not intended experience
Oh, also to add to the list of things I want to see, gun balance (buket being more effective than hk416 is kinda immersion breaking) and master difficulty (I want to scrounge for resources and not drown in food like I'm in sausage factory)
More punishing sleep deprivation, my first playthrough I never even realized the game has this feature untill first baiyn encounter, and even then it is kinda meh
And a timer for sleep, i think having an alarm clock is not unrealistic

I don't like it when people expect a cyberpunk out of stalker 2. Don't get me wrong, cyberpunk ended up being a good game – but I don't want just a good game, I want a good stalker game. A game that tries to innovate a little bit, that tries to make interesting systems for the player to interact with. And the devs were promising these systems before the release. Do you know what's the issue? Even tho Cyberpunk is a good game, it didn't deliver on the stuff that was promised: there are no handmade routines for the hundreds of NPCs, there are no factions that you can join, the world itself is static in general (I bet you remember the same NPCs doing same things in the same places, even the enemies are spawning in the same spots over and over again), your lifepaths have minimal impact, etc. Basically, they've promised RPG but ended up making a far cry in cyberpunk setting...

I would say the game development got really unlucky with the timing of acquiring UE5 . UE4 had already been outdate (it maybe would be better performance-wise on release, but in perspective - releasing something on UE4 now is just a dead end).
On the other hand, when they started the work, they had to deal with 5.0.0 before it even came out - I can only imagine the number of issue it had. And most good stuff came with the later versions of the engine, so 5.1 is really underwhelming..
But can you blame them? 8 years and still pretty much nothing to show for it. A literal beta of a game for 8 years lmao

That's not ideal.
Can't speak for your friend's PC, but I found it cleans up a lot when you have performance. It does a lot of sampling lighting in realtime from your screen, so if you're running a lower resolution, then upscaling, then generating frames, you're losing a lot of raw input data.
It's not going to be perfect in every scenario on high end systems, but it's definitely not blurry and noisy all the time. And the lighting is pretty amazing.

By definition AI can't "imagine" all the assets with the 100% accuracy thus there are ALWAYS some issues if the picture isn't static. We also know what Stalker 2 looks like if you don't use any sort of TAA/AI (It looks like a pixel hell, even 4k screen wasn't saving it). Thus it's a question of you noticing the issues. there's a specific route you have to follow along the cargo containers to climb up the crane and then when you're at the peak of the crane the bolt will fly by and you grab it you're not meant to just run into the tornado
The way i used to do it was wait at the top let the tornado hit me, pick up the artifact and heal

I just remember climbing up the crane and sitting at the end and grabbing the bolt as it flew by (which took like 15 attempts)

holy moly i finally got to player proper after 1.5 dropped
a-life is really here, i met a stalker while doing the poppy field quest, he was heading somewhere, but i just went and did my quest, when i got back to zalissya he was chilling by the fire, which means the stalkers actually enter and leave the towns instead of just being static population
i hope they add so they actually have a chance to find artifacts when they do the artifact hunting animation, i saw on reddit someone posting dead NPC stalkers with loot in their inventories, which atleast suggest that they loot eachother in offline mode too, which is super cool

I’m having issues with scoped rifles. The effective range seems to be much lower. I’m literally shooting across a road can’t be no more than 50 metres in real world distance and the rifle is doing nothing to the enemies lol it’s like putting a high powered scope on potato gun 😂 I don’t remember the Valik lummox being this poor at a relatively close range. I wonder if it’s due to the FPS, where it’s a visual bug. It looks like I’m aiming at their head but because of the poor frames the enemy has moved before it can be rendered 🤷♂️ I have had to turn frame gen on because the FPS is all over the place. Maybe it’s a frame gen issue? Has anyone else had a similar issue? I wasn’t a big fan of the gun when I first used it but I could make it work early game. Now it’s best use would be to throw at the enemies 😂

- getting shot causes slight flinch/knockback
- corpses have minimal weight so you can move the ragdoll
- ragdoll is created before knockback is applied

A patch with no release date feels the same as no patch at all. Guess I'll check back at the end of the month

Question: what did you think of the story of Stalker 2? Taking into account that it’s supposedly one of the most important parts…
The overarching theme of the zone being a place that takes the form of what you interpret it to mean I feel was amazing, and viewed through that lens I loved it.
It wasn't a red dead 2 moment or anything, but some moments really hit the spot.
I think for me the 'story' I focused on was the one not necessarily told through words or cutscenes, more... inferred I guess based on common themes that characters both main and secondary share

I know some people criticised the visual direction's lack of grease and grime, looking a lot more 'golden' than the brown and moudly look of the trilogy, but I feel that can be considered a purposeful attempt to make the place look more like a death pit and something with some more meaning
the most immersive thing about a game is when the game artists spend their time designing culture slang and logical explanation on why things happen in the game
