I'm going to keep repeating this until my fingers fall off: The older games absolutely had a spawn bubble, it just had a significantly larger radius (150-200m) and worked seamlessly with the "Offline" A-Life.

Do you ever think that the problem with A-life could be engine related? I’m not a dev so I don’t know even the basics. It seems like NPC persistence would be something that would have to be baked into the engine. Trying to track hundreds of npcs off screen sounds like it could take a lot of computing if you didn’t do it efficiently.

IDK it's basically a spreadsheet with a lot of complicated rules for updating the values is my understanding. Seems like something that could be implemented anywhere if that's the case. But I'm also not a developer.

However what we might not be able to get is the full persistence of NPC names and loadouts. (To be honest, I can live without this aspect of NPC persistence as it wasn't something I ever noticed it in the original trilogy unless I was specifically paying attention and looking for it. It really didn't matter in moment-to-moment gameplay.)

I think the issue with the new game is that it didn’t have any load screens does it between zones ? Like the older ones could do more things because it had load screens I think having a large zone Ike S2 without loading screens between zones hinders performance alot for a life system

Offline A-Life was active on the map at all times. In Clear Sky you could literally open the world map and watch NPCs spawn in at POIs and bases. I don't think the lack of loading screens is the problem.

yes sort of, ue5 does not have native all in one tool for npc persistence fully but there are modules and subsystems of the engine that when combined together can create a level of depth needed for a-life, these systems can all be used or a few of them (ie have offline a-life with location and name but not clothes and inventory?)

I think a lot of people have a false impression of A-Life because of mods. The A-Life you see in Anomaly and GAMMA is not the same thing that was in the original trilogy and is far more fleshed out and functional.

Anomaly and GAMMA has pretty simple, but complete version of A-Life. NPCs fighting over lairs, that's pretty much it. It's the least of what Stalker 2 should have had. Nobody cares how OGs were 15 years ago and them being downgraded does not make it ok for Stalker 2 to also be subpar.
