They went through an insane level of growth since the game was initially announced. They went from (I think) under 100 employees total to 400 or 500+ in only 4-5 years, that's insane and would definitely cause issues even if it's a good thing long-term.

S2 2012 is a different game from S2 2024. While I believe they did take some of the concepts and ideas from that version of the game, they are not the same game.

It was announced in 2018, but there was that recent interview with a former dev who said that development didn't actually start until 2020, and it with only 60 people at the time.

If that's true then someone somewhere made a massive planning mistake. There's no way in hell a studio of GSC's size could put out a game of this scope and complexity in a mostly bug free, well-optimized, feature complete state in only 2 years. (Remember, the original release date was in 2022.) Even a large AAA studio would take years to do something like that.
