Tbh I did learn a lot about computers by basically nuking mine and reinstalling the OS etc multiple times.

also about stalker, the OG is kinda rough to play now, its not as hardcore as people think it is, just most enemies are bullet sponges. So stalker 2 feels like a stalker game. Its just the huge amount of mods and a decade of modding that have turned stalker into this tactical shooter and thats what people think stalker was.

Depends what you want from the mod. It's not easy and there's a lot of tedious stuff for the sake of realism, which I enjoy. It's mostly a sandbox where you do what you want. Hunt for artifacts, do repeatable missions for whichever faction you choose, etc. Worth a try at least.

its not very fast even in the most expensive model cus its limited by its dual sata 2 interface so it can max out with the best ram you can get for it at like 500mbs for device with 5 of them though you could get to pretty crazy speeds but its biggest win is response time it can give even some what modern drives a run for there money in terms of response time

UE4 still has amazing graphics and it would probably have been easier to not rely on frame gen and upscaling to keep performance playable like in they rely on it now. Also UE4 is just a more fleshed out engine. Who cares about graphics, Stalker especially nowadays is about the gameplay and world. And games like Hellblade which look phenomenal came out on UE4

the game was released before it was ready.
The game at release and the review builds were not in a great state and ran and still don't run great. Every update it's better.
Then add in a-life which needs its own round of optimization on top of the rest of the unoptimized game. You got a game in a unplayable state.

Thats the cost of proper simulation

They usually last a long long time, till they don't.

The problem is usually the capacitors leak inevitably, and then current is flowing/not flowing incorrectly, which burns some connector or wire.

I had specifically a rm850x from like 2021 go bad on me last year, and my replacement had this crazy problem I've found 0 record of anywhere on the internet; it smelled like rotten fish...

No one else has ever mentioned this strange fish smell, so maybe I'm schizophrenic

Okay I found what the problem was. I was using the console to skip time (to accept quests from traders). When you skip time, your sleepiness builds up. Console STACKS this effect twice and makes it PERMANENT. The guy below (Spare-Vanilla5419) mentioned that the previous save worked fine and this is what got me thinking.

Turns out that high sleepiness increases your aiming time. So because I skipped time with console, the game thought I was sleepy (even though I slept), so the ADS played TWO animations at the same time. One slowed and the other normal, which resulted in ADS being as if it was recorded in 30FPS.

I feel like a fricken detective rn, lost 3h. of gameplay because of that.

I didn't encounter that many on the time I played but if you play on PC you could consider getting the vanilla alife extended mod which just increases the spawn radius around you so everything is more spaced out. It doesn't change anything else.

the difference between presets is not that noticeable but imo if shaders are low you get some weird dotty shading which looks p bad, and I bumped up textures to high to avoid them looking too muddled. Definitely looking at cutscenes in youtube looks much better than on my game but I think it's more the resolution than anything else I think.

I think they still need to tweak a lot of the "finishing part" of the game without spoiling the whole last part of the game is in a really rough state, having mobs going through building, ennemies spawning like 1meter behind your back (had a moment where they were just spawing in front of a door ) and when you see the number of ressources they give you every like 300meters, yeah you know that this part is in a okay state right now , shame cuz the ambience is top notch

No, if I switch to a weapon *I haven't used * recently (so it's not loaded), the game notably spends a few seconds loading it before I can actually draw it. (As in the equip animation doesn't play at all for a few seconds, so I have to wait then the equip animation plays.)

Both Black Ops 6 and Indiana Jones and the Great Circle don't have this issue on a HDD.

I wouldn't trust a ticket to do anything, when I sent one due to first patch making performance worse I got a clearly generic reply.

Like I said, if other games lack this issue (on a HDD), I'm going to assume it's STALKER 2's fault it persists (even if not as bad) on a SSD.

IMO AI is just fine for its current role of supporting the world in a background while you are busy with the main/side quests. It is obviously not enough for a proper freeplay. But again, it's not like freeplay can be added and improved upon later on.

I actually like some of the very very minor touches that certain Epic settings give - like for instance depth of field being applied to Skif's hand gestures only at Epic. But yeah in general they kinda destroy performance without giving much in return.

As a side note, the global illumination in this is so impressive but the ambient occlusion so... late 2010s? Places are so well lit and then I walk into a corpse that looks like it's floating a little bit lol

could be a number of things. I definitely recommend installing the stk2 mod if you are in PC (particularly the chroma .dll that comes packaged in, make sure to check the readme for where each of the 3 files go), as well as making sure that your card's shader cache is uncapped, but other than that I believe it's less memory leaks and more that the game just craps out from time to time. It happens to me occasionally, particularly when tabbing out of the game. If I change the supersampling quality to performance and back to balanced it tends to work itself out.

Ooh the shader cache size tip is pretty good. Not sure if setting to uncapped is required but I once set it to 10GB to fix some other game and never had to do anything with the setting ever since.

I never crash if I alt-tab while in the pause menu, but alt-tabbing while unpaused is like 80%+ crash

Lumen has its moments, I do hope they continue to try and mitigate the issues it currently has and yeah the AO solution being used at the moment as well as at times lack of dynamic shadows (Skif’s flashlight being the biggest offender) leaves somethings to be desired. Hopefully things that are still in the realm of being improved. If not then maybe once the SDK is out and we dont have to rely on janky solutions.

I was on medium preset and started increasing a couple of options, namely textures, and then lighting and shading to high. Textures seems to hold, but high lighting was murder on my framerate. Granted, that was when I reached a very reflection heavy area (||sircaa||).
I'd get those moments where fps drops to single digits and stays there

That same area is where I feel the game falters the most visually imo. The reflections looked really bad and lighting / AO looked almost broken in some smaller outdoor spaces inside that place.

I remember some ray-traced reflections looking a little like this in Control but that game could really dial it up when the material / surface calls for sharp reflections.

So i have been playing stalker 2 about 45h total now across different save files to check if maybe the save file is corrupted or what not.

So my problem is : it seems like there is no AI in open world for me. Or enemies. The only enemies i find are the ones that are scrippted to be there ( in missions )
All the poi 's are empty. No AI wondering around.
Someone earlier said i should try a new safe file and reinstall but it didnt change anything. Am i the only one with this problem ?

@low ice if you're on PC there's a number of mods that increase the spawns around you. Alife extended's "alive" version increases them by about 33%, and the main branch also includes some custom spawn logic which makes it more populated. This being said, lesser zone and garbage are much quieter than other areas like the swamps and beyond.

once you install it you'll need to play around a bunch for the ai to repopulate. Shay's recommends sleeping like 3 days or something crazy like that, I didn't need that much but you certainly won't be able to tell the difference right away.
If you want to go crazy you could try shay's normal branch, which imo is an excessive amount, I think they recently also released the "closer" version which should probably feel even crazier.
