While I think i've been pretty damn lucky with over 40 hours in the game without bugs or real performance issues, I get why people are upset about the optimization. However, like I said, I think all things considered (Funding issues, active war and yes I know their offices moved out of Ukraine but still. Small dev team, and I believe they also switched engines multiple times) theyve done a pretty good job so far. They also seem to be pretty on the ball for updates

I think they realized that they would need to tourniquet the live build and ''cut'' or heavily limit what parts of the ai director/a-life shipped with the game to get it out the door a bit too late and that just lead to the system we have today. Though I'm quite confident (read coped out of my mind) that we'll see A-Life 2.0 come March or something of the sort, they'll get it working.

All in all, I don't like the slop the industry is pushing us these days but I feel like if there's one studio I can atleast somewhat forgive the release state of the game for it'd have to be GSC considering what they've gone through, the manpower they have/don't have in comparison to bigger studios, budget, etc. The foundation of the game is solid, it's just got a lot of jagged edges to smooth out.

An unoptimized game will always run like a$$.
SM2 runs fine, Tekken 8 runs fine, never heard anyone ever complain about Fortnite running bad, The Finals runs fine, Satisfactory runs fine as far as I know.
They all use UE5, the engine is not the problem.

Well yes, but that would be the case no matter what engine they use.
If they used Xray, Xray is slavjank engine so ofc it runs bad. If they used Unity (like some other big name slavic FPS) then ofc Unity games are unoptimized
The engine is basically just a set of tools, they all have their quirks, it's up to the devs to use them well

There appears to have been a bunch of locations cut from the originally planned map as well. Hopefully they don't lock all of those behind paid DLC. (I think some of the regions were listed as DLC but not all of them.)

You don't have to "hack" (lol) to get to Prip early. There's a pretty obvious spot that you can jump on to/over to get there.

To me shay's is way too much, but there's the possibility that the version I tried might have a parameter out of place which led to unintentional behavior. Alife extended worked alright so far up to the swamps.

If I'm not mistaken attacks have a separate "damage" and "wear" attribute so I think it's mostly unrelated.

And yeah from what I talked to someone about Shay's it could be that the looter's version I tried was somehow out of whack, I might try it later, but I think the custom logic in alife extended makes spawn distances a lil more balanced. It also seems to mostly address AI detection, though I still get enemies seeing me through walls or scripted spawns jumping the gun on me

If you don't maybe try one of the mods that add async loading (my recommendation is stk2), but to test this you could pause the game if your weapon key is not working, and waiting a little on the pause screen while everything loads in the background.

I'm just kind of writing from my perspective of messing around with games development and state machines in general. The requirements of A-life on paper are easy. Low complexity actions, on a low fidelity analog, on a low tick rate. What probably is harder is the robust solutions required for translating that back forth from the play space. If that one article is to be believed that is the issue, things like the AI spawning in absurd situations above or bellow the terrain.

Sounds like they ran out of time on some of things around the edges. Maybe UE5 handling the loading and unloading NPCS is too CPU dependent and this game already ran like it diarheaed it's pants.

Entire remakes of older games in a new engine? Getting online co-op to work for games that never had the infrastructure to allow for it?
If there's one thing I know it's that the Anomaly team or any other team that is as dedicated to this franchise will be upset enough about the feature not being present that they will work on it, simply because they are passionate and they themselves would like to see it in the game. How feasible that might is anyone's guess but to say ''Nah why bother'' when people who mod have spent years on their creations sometimes is just blatantly missing the point of what drives someone to mod.

Mods get left abandoned when people move on from a game or no longer have the free time to work on them but that's just life in general with any creative project.

Also I don't see anything related to feature implementation happening yet in the modding scene because the tools do not exist yet nor is the game old enough to even begin working on it because it's not even feature complete, polished or fully functioning yet.

My issue with UE5 is it lowers the barrier of entry. As bad as that sounds. In a good world that would mean a wider pool of talent with more skills. Turning off the HUD would be fine by me if there was a meaningful way of checking how much ammo I have remaining (helldivers 2 and tarkov does this well by allowing you to remove the magazine to check it). Or a way to tell if I am about to die or low on stamina. Also doesn't removing the hub also remove contextual stuff? Like when looting stuff off t he ground? Lastly it removes the compass. Opening the PDA is just overly tedious and annoying. I just cannot. turn off HUD elements when we have so little information now.

I'm easily spooped myself but I use grok's rebalance which makes mutants less of a superhuman bullet sponge. Which means you can take them down with a magazine, instead of like 2 or 3
Knowing that they are killable takes the edge off a bit.

I mean of all the mutants for me bloodsuckers are some of the less scary because they yell when aggroed and they'll beeline it for you afterwards so you can just drop back into a hallway or something and unload on them as they rush you

Pressing Tab or Left bumper on controller still takes you out of the action, over just having a quick animation seeing if there is still ammo in the magazine. Immersion yo. Again removing the compass just makes the game super annoying due to how slow and clunky opening the PDA is. I c an only imagine the hundreds of more times I would need to keep constantly opening it just to navigate an already difficult map.

Mutants are already easy to take down. Only the big ones like the chimera and psudogiant are spongy, but then again you just run away from them. Almost every other mutant you can easily take down with a mag or two of ammo. Just aim for the head and use expanding or armor percing ammo

I have an armor that is worth 130k and only a scratch of 6% durability damage costs 6k to repair thats 3 common artifacts and since your are fighting tons of enemies later your armor will be worn way more costing you 30k in repair alone. While weapons you find to sell are giving you 2-3k and artifacts only if you are lucky more but the especially valuable ones giving you 12k coupons those are super rare and in most cases you want to use them to counter the difficulty spike @spiral socket what is your gear setup ?

I am playing on Veteran. Artifacts are not worth more. Common is selling for 2k uncommon for 3,6 k then with super rare artifacts which show me 70k worth sell at 12k. It's just crazy. There is not nearly enough money in the game and on Veteran upgrading your gear is only worth for cheap gear. No other weapons besides pistols and toz are worth the repair costs. Normally you want for late game that your armor has a lead container at least one. But that is already increasing your late game armor worth way too much.

Its more a progression level. When you continue the main quest then the gear of npcs starts getting more advanced. Oh and btw veteran changes the following. You do less damage you get less money for selling you get less money for Questa everything costs more on top. They gotta revise veteran difficulty. It doesn't really feel good. They should increase the damage of enemies or their accuracy like in the trilogy and let you do the same damage its like 0.75 of stalker difficulty damage which makes you shoot more and lose more weapon durability plus armor durability and you get less rewards from it. Selling 40 anti rads is selling for 2k in my game.

I use Grok's playing on stalker difficulty. I like wear and tear mechanics in games but jesus christ vanilla is excessive (particularly considering you'll start encountering jams at like high 80%)
Upgrades are cheaper but not that cheap. Repairs are expensive but you don't do them too often. It's a good balance imo.

I'm playing on Xbox, so no mods. The economy I don't think is that bad, at least as it was day one. If I didn't literally hoard everything and started selling my cache I'd probably have a million by now. I'm running a psz falcon fully upgraded and a dnipro I found that was already pretty full on upgrades and the competitor revolver. Artifacts I've got on is liquid rock, spring, whirlwind and shop class, I carry about 150 rounds for the rifle and 100 for the sidearm with 10 medkit, bandages and a food item.

I don't really buy anything from anyone, supplies are already so plentiful from looting corpses and supply cashes I really just loot as many half broken weps I can and sell everything, only really spend on repairs and upgrades

I am horting unique weapons and shit I am thinking about selling everything but how are you countering repair costs for your armor there are mission where you cannot find a technician if you don't run 2km back to a camp and then 3km to get to the next quest location. Are you taking your time running those extra miles? Because for me my seva I suit is costing me 34k to repair when it reaches the red durability mark and I swear in that time the durability went down there was no personal stash, no one to sell to, no one to repair close. Because of Story quests those people who would be close even went away on top. I couldn't even carry enough valuable loot to make up for what was it 45k in repair costs.

Yeah half the fast travel guides for me have disappeared but are still on the minimap, or like Zalyssia and malachite the doors are permenantly locked with me inside. Everyone in Rostok are friends so I always end up running 2 to 4km for the best price on repairs, and I never let my gear below 89% or so in degradation so I'm not paying above 1k in repairs.

Ehhh, if anything as long as you keep them in good shape, they did fix that much so that upgraded gear sells for more. I think there is a trader too, the ratman that will buy completely broken gear at some fraction of the cost. Otherwise, it's still an important facet to consider, if anything just keep farming half broke guns from enemies and selling them. I can usually get about 10-15k in broken guns In jupitor and pripyat at this point.

so I hauled 7 weapons back to my trader to sell them and would gotten 12k for those weapons in veteran. Which is viper, 2 groms, 1 GP37 , one Mac, one spas and a buket . by luck I found a mask and a seva suit on top making it 25k. I doubt you are encountering "leaks", I would strongly recommend lowering your graphic settings, installing an async loading mod, disable framegen, and start from there.

I mean it depends from computer to computer, it could be your HDD's transfer speed, the shader cache being limited... to me the stk2 mod (and particularly the razer chroma dll for some reason) did wonders to keep my fps from going to shit on settlements, but also check that the shader cache in your card is unlimited just in case.

Also depends on your supersampling, you'll probably get the best performance out of TSR, I started with TSR on performance and 50% resolution and then change it up to less ghosty supersamplers once I got a stable picture (I'm on DLSS balanced now, seems the best compromise in my case)

also, and just in case, did you previously install any engine.ini mods? Is your game building shaders when you launch it? Some engine.ini edits do disable the shader compilation at the start, which, if you don't have them all correctly built or if you upgrade your drivers can cause massive stutters as you advance through the game.

Finished my first run btw , without spoiling, the overall experience was really neat, ambiance always on point , story was much better then I thought , didn't have softlock during the run
I just think that (apart from A life) they need to work on two things :

• Economy, cuz at one point I stopped doing jobs and reselling I went straight to the end of the game ,everything costs too much and resells too little
• Balance damages and resistance, the last 30minutes of the game were a pain to play
