I was just mainly concerned with the mainline 3 games vs the mods / standalones. I have nothing against Gamma or the other mods tbh. I think STALKER can be multiple things to different people. I think thats the great thing about it. Stalker is great for suspense and action, and its also great for gritty survival.

I can see where everyone is coming from tbh. STALKER is a cult classic so everyone will have their favorite ways to play it. Some are more purist, others want a face lift, others want a complete overhaul. Tbh? They are all valid choices. Some gamers really like good graphics and they cant stomach older looking things. Others can stomach it, or even prefer it, but maybe dont want the bugs, and other unintuitive systems of the day and age.

Tbh i dont care what anyone has to do to play stalker, as long as they play it and enjoy it. Thats what its all about to me in my eyes.

The only real problems I have with Clear Sky vanilla, is the grenades (at times.) and the end of game gauntlet because that helicopter boss fight takes me right out of the immersion lmao everything else has to be my favorite of all the games, minus the atmosphere in SoC. But shooting a rifle thats been upgraded, and exploring the zone at night with good night vision just makes this overall my most complete feeling game. It feels so robust in that regard.

Sure the radar was magical, but it only worked out to a certain distance. Staring at it only gave you info for as long as you stared at it, which would get you killed if you weren't quick.
The compass and subsequent "notice" ring in the middle of the screen is 100% passive 100% of the time, meaning that you are always actively benefiting from it during combat

I'm sure you'll be able to remove the notice ring, but the compass is absolutely a huge nerf to the minimap. It was large enough to keep track of a fight and even had a counter for how many nearby AI there were so you always knew if there was someone left but just being quiet

sure but with the compass it just takes a 360 swivel and you've got the same info, possibly even more because with the minimap, it often didn't accurately show cover whereas with this new compass, you'd be looking directly at the direction of the dot
