He ain't no dumbass, let me tell you that much. He's spot on with his realisation of STALKER not being "post-apocalyptic" & that something doesn't add up with the franchise having a hardcore reputation while featuring very basic survival mechanics. Indeed, the OG trilogy has only mere elements of survival gameplay with 0 craft & certainly isn't as hardcore — all of this reputation is a product of modding. Mr. Park isn't aware of that, but he definitely is spot on with some of his conclusions based on what he's experienced playing the build.

All in all, his feedback is a solid confirmation for me that with S2 GSC's managed to hit a decent spot in between the mods & what the OG gameplay truly was back in the day 👌🏻 It's not as overwhelmingly (tediously, I should say) hardcore as mods, where you need dozens of meds to fix whatever is broken in your body, but also not as basic as the story/exploration driven trilogy, given the EFT references are still popping up here'n'there in the article precisely where you'd expect — in relation to guns & combat

It seems hard to many because they have never played a game where you have to seriously consider retreating from a head-on fight and taking a different approach. Probably only amplified by the internet legend that the game is easier on Master difficulty.

@normal quail I'm glad you decided to make a save and give it a try. As you know from the previous games, some of the best moments are getting your ass kicked and learning from your mistakes, or the game crashing and you learned to make a manual save before you undertake any significant action. Now when it comes to the stealth part, let me share a little secret. Behind the Recycling Plant (south side) are three large pipes that come out of the ground and then bend at a 90 degree angle and then go straight into the building. The large pipe on the east side, has metal steps built into it. if you climb up that, you will see at the top, the pipe has a large section broken out of it. The idea is you sneak into the Recycling Plant from the rear sides, you go up the ladder and sneak into the pipe. The pipe will go into the building where there is another hole to come out of. This is directly above the table where the laptop is located. Once you drop down and grab it, the Mercs will most likely go on alert and impede your escape. It is too difficult to go back the way you came so, expect a lot of action. The stealth mechanic in the Stalker games is done with crouch and low-crouch and making as little noise as possible. Either way, this is why I warned you, that you may need better weapons, better armor and more supplies like medkits. Good luck with whatever you decide.

I think the who issue is that the original games felt like for the most part that they weren’t holding your hand. You had to figure stuff out. It was quite different to other games at the time. Stalker 2 is on consoles and gaming is a bigger market than in 2009 so the game has to appeal to a more casual audience

Some more recent tacticool mods may have changed peoples expectations. For me though Stalker is meant to be more arcade like but difficult at the same time.

The only night vision in Zaton, is to buy the Clear Sky armor from Nimble that comes with helmet. However, make a manual save before you purchase an armor from him. This is because you can randonly get 1 of 3 armors and you may not get that the first try. Some people wiill go to sleep for many hours to pass the time, until Nimble returns with your order.

Third set of tools not in Zaton or Jupiter. Later near end of game in Pripyat. Cardan will give 10% discount for 1 bottle of vodka on upgrades. 2 bottles 20%. 3 bottles may become incoherent.

That's probably the biggest thing I didn't like is only having two artifact slots on suits for most of game until you are allowed to go to Pripyat.

If you play CoP a second time, when you return to BS lair, you can decide not to use gas but instead where you descend stairs, you can jump up on top of computer cabinet and use shotgun to kill them all, where they cannot reach.

If you fail to kill all the zombies at the Saw Mill, you will get zombie hordes (large squads) roaming Zaton. This is bad because I call them ghetto zombies because their loot is very poor. Think pistols and sawn-off shotguns. If you kill ALL the zombies, then zombie regular squads walking around will have better armor, better weapons (TRs-301, SGI, chasers) which means better loot more money to make.
