2003-2005 OL still retained those futuristic elements, but they never actually got to realizing the story, this period was heavy on improving the X-ray engine, all the story and quests we have are in design documents
After THQ pressured GSC, S.T.A.L.K.E.R. got a major story and location rework, almost all of it was changed, and by the time they started making the quests and story it was already Shadow of Chernobyl
Though, 2005 SoC and 2007 SoC are still pretty different, one american named Dean Sharp made sure that GSC cuts everything they can't realize in time :3
