Emissions aren't a 100% guarantee that artifacts will appear in anomalies. Sometimes it can take two or three emissions for artifacts to reappear and even then you'll be lucky to get more than one sometimes. Other times you might get as many as 3 if you're really lucky

Game basically rolls a dice fo each major anomaly field, and if it gets the right number, it spawns an artifact

Theres huge difference between mercs and loners tho. You, as the player, in fact may act like a mercenary, by taking these assassination jobs. However, regular stalkers would most likely avoid doing such things. Majority of loners only want to make some money by selling artifacts - it's not like they come to the Zone with the intention of becoming a hitman.

For mercenaries, however, assassination orders and other morally questionable tasks are commonplace. They can perform tasks such as finding a specific artifact, but out-of-contract artifact hunting itself is not their main job, in contrary to majority of loners. In their 'free time', they prefer to earn money in other ways - such as by assaulting and robbing stalkers. In general, many mercs behave like 'professional bandits' of sorts

Other mercs don't really treat him as one of their own. This is particularly visible in dialogues with Hog, who calls Scar a "merc", just like most of the other characters do, and when explaining to him what will happen if they fail their task, i.e. clients won't trust the mercs no more, he doesn't seem to take Scar into account at all - as if it didn't apply to him.

Other characters also don't treat Scar as a member of the mercenary organization - Chekhov doesn't suspect him of any contacts with the hostile mercenaries in the Dark Valley, and he's not surprised by his willingness to assist in eliminating them, all the while being surprised that the mercs attacked another faction.

It's also worth noting that when the player joins any faction, then its emblem will be visible in the PDA and UI; however, if the player is factionless, then the emblem used by the mercenaries won't be visible anywhere. This further suggests that Scar was a merc only by profession and had no connection with the organization

So this is my first time playing SoC and i went to the '100 Rad' and beyond, i then met that one scientist that you'd need to escort to Yantar and eventually he died, so i went back to the bar and checked my mission log, only to figure out i cannot go back to the "starter area" i may call it, because whatever faction is hindering me and doing so will make them hostile and shooting me but i see no option to sign to that whatever war it is or anything, now i made it to Yantar myself only to stumble across this Psy-Emission and googling around there's supposed to be a mission for x16 lab and a psy helmet
What do i do now?

I'm thinking that some mercs (in Clear Sky) at least are actually foreigners. There's an inconsistency with some mercenaries appearing to be ex-stalkers while others have no knowledge of the Zone. It is interesting that the Tunder S14 is so popular under Military Stalkers, as I'd imagine Military Stalkers, being something akin to the Military's scouts, performing better with long ranged weaponry compared to a close ranged weapon better suited to Duty's modus operandi. Of course, the idea of the Military basically equipping Military Stalkers for combat and not specifically for the Zone's conditions would be ironic and fitting towards the State's incompetence. The introduction of the Screen Helmet and the Storm seem to indicate a change in this, however. I would love to see that

It is not, but you know how things are? The most possible outcome if Maked one chose to be neutral and move along is just similar to the one with him informing lukash. He's mostly dead. Freedom wouldn't ignore his squad for long even if he stood his ground.
When marked one reached them, they have already attempted the assault, but the freedom sniper killed the dynamite guy and forced them to fall back. Naturally, freedom patrols would've delivered the news anyway even if Marked one headed to radar without doing the deed

Canonically that sniper would've sent word to lukash right after the first assault attempt. So, a counter assault is likely to happen. The whole event is adjusted to suit Marked one's perspective and it was not affected by time. In a real time setting, it would've been different and freedom would've took counter measures immediately after the sniper's first kill
