Play whatever diff you like. Going master in your first playthrough is just unnatural. You can go start with novice then go stalker or start stalker. Veteran and Master diffs are quite similar in a way so it doesn't matter much what you pick afterwards

It's human nature, when we pick a team we convince ourselves and eachother the team you picked is best, often for arbitrary reasons. Duty-Freedom, PC-console, <generic-sports-team-A-generic-sports-team-B, female anatomy, soda, you name it.

Use a solid rifle, any other secondary long weapon (usually a shotgun), then use the rest of your carry weight on ammo and consumables

pistols can cover for weaknesses in main weapons. think: high mag cap like walker for low mag cap weapons like snipers, or silenced pistol for shotgun/machinegun

especially the Walker in CS, 20 shots per mag and good accuracy makes it excellent at getting rid of dogs, at the mere cost of cheap ammo.

Some, like myself, start with CS because I love the main characters “Scar”, but basically the timeline is correct: SoC, CS, CoP.

It's hard to go from having someone who can repair your gear to having nobody who can repair anything for you, but yeah playing CS first I would think is fine, you just gotta understand you're going backwards to a game lacking certain mechanics.

On my second return with some loot the same 2 guys are ther but now theres a third and hes just nicely laid out across the fire with 2 vals by his side lol.
