As far as I know from reading the book, empty is a specific type of artifact described as two indestructible metal plates hovering at a certain distance from each other but there is a huge range of artifacts described there.

If i learned anything from playing starfield from launch...when thr game autosaves it can make the game crash

Doing that solved 90% of my crash issues, and i was crashing every 5 minutes on that game, then when i went offline mode i crashed maybe once every 45 minutes to an hour.
