Basically its like this: for example, let's say that you pick a quest about killing Dutyers from Freedom

After you kill those Dutyers and quest is finished your relation with Duty will become worse

Same logic with taking quest from Voronin about killing Freedomers

You can take sort of "neutral" quests that won't damage your relation with either faction

For example if you bring Lukash boars hoof then only your relation with Freedom will increase. Relation with Duty won't get worse

Lorewise there isn't such as thing like "Loner faction", just stalkers. thats why stalkers are usually neutral to you (unless you helped them by giving them medkit and they became friendly or shot them and they became hostile)

While Duty and Freedom are factions, thats why whole Duty and whole Freedom can either be your friends or enemies

Loner "faction" being a faction is more of a gameplay thing. Loner = someone who isn't in any faction

and SoC mods have been being made for years and years
