anomalies are just things that hurt you in different ways. most are in the air and near invisible and crush you, or throw you into the air, or something, but some are like acid on the floor or something. in the first game they really are just there to hurt you, but in the 2nd and 3rd there are artifacts near them that are valuable and help you. there are artifacts in the 1st game too, but they are kinda just thrown around the map, sometimes near anomalies
