Now the question is, where does the name come from? It could indeed be the name of the scientist who invented the machines, but we don't really know.

Which I find interesting since we started talking about "Kaimanov Devices". I believe Tommy also had a theory it might be some kind of Psi Emitter, like the Brain Scorcher. Remember how there are multiple "Brain Scorchers"

They were having problems with such a large map being open and since the other half of the map was later unused anyway with the cut of the generators map they just gave the player access to the front half as the back half didn't serve a purpose anymore. The model work is really good, as GSC went to the exclusion zone and used it for actual reference to create a realistic CNPP. I'm sure if kinda hurt to have some of their hard work be removed, not fun having your work being pushed aside.
If I recall correctly they had to shuffle buildings around in Pripyat due to FPS issues as well, wasn't the only map having problems.

What I think could be happening here. In first years of the zone existence, while it was panic all around, goverment couldn't figure out what to do, so the zone was guarded by mixed force consisted of professional military, conscript soldiers, and maybe some internatinal peacekeeping forces. But after some years, a lot conscript soldiers died (remember agroprom operation, there was a lot of young untrained soldiers) and society wasn't happy about it, there may have been some protests about it. So as time passed, goverment decided to reform the whole system. Also another reason for this, is to lower the tension between military and stalkers. Since you can physically get rid of the stalkers, it would be make much more sense to use them. If stalker dies, nobody cares. If young conscript soldier dies, society reacts. So what we can possibly see in S2. Perimeter is guarded by contract soldiers, and combined world military forces. Sirca and scientific expeditions, and the order inside the zone are guarded by Ward (Varta). Military stalkers play the role of special forces inside the zone, and they are used for some difficult operations inside the zone, but military stalkers don't live in the zone on the regular basis. They can consist of ex stalkers that decided to sigh contract with the goverment, or military specialists that had additional "zone survival" training.

You also need to remember that C-Con didn't brainwashed Strelok only. They did this process to tons of other stalkers as well (maybe even to Clear Sky members, if they somehow survived the emission)
