Gamplay is a little different from SHoC. Gunfire has visible recoil effects. The story takes part after SHoC events and somewhat a closure to it. Artifacts hunt is pretty much different and a bit more difficult due to the introduction of detectors, invisible artifacts, full anomalous zone etc..

You'll figure it out once you give it a bit of time tho.

Question for stalker fans

How should high tier loot be awarded?

I can see why old stalker’s way of areas + time(?)/story progression makes sense, but at the same time that leads to some weapons quickly becoming obsolete or replaced

I was thinking that the game should avoid consistently giving out high tier loot towards the end game, and instead give low-quality high-end guns with a rare chance of having a high quality PART

Perhaps make advanced weapon customization only available at safe spots? Doing this would encourage scavenging certain guns (large & heavy, taking up inventory space) to scrap better grade parts out of them to add to your own

It’d encourage more of a scavenger play style

I am NOT advocating for anything other than the base gun itself to have durability, because constantly having to repair and replace every part of your gun would suuuuuuckkkk

You could still do this, by modifying base weapon stats and either have unique weapon parts that cannot be removed (so that the strong wep parts can’t be modified) or allow parts to be swapped, allowing unique weapons to be modified further

Not really, you can just have weapon specific attachments (“lightweight m16 stock” for example). The only downside would be potential clutter, which is why I think any non-standard parts should be rare

Keeping parts that give your weapons a straight upgrade super rare would also prevent you from cheesing the game since lowest tier weapons, albeit usable in high tier areas once fully modified, would still be less preferable than an unmodified regular high end weapon

It is not a bad idea to make such thing, however, it might be a little bit of a problem to a majority of stalker fans who are not familiar with such feature. Meaning, those whom are used to the previous games without hard-core modded game experience might not be welcoming the idea as it will be quite a challenge and a lot to take in.
I might just recommend that the game keeps the old good impression but with the extra.
Early game will always just included low tier weapons (a pistol, a sub-M gun and double barrel shotgun). The base guns that you loot and scavenge should be in bad condition depending on how advanced the enemy is. Rookies and experienced stalkers should be carrying base early weapons. Rookies will have bad condition weapons, probably due to low maintenance, or the fact that they possibly looted that weapon already from someone else. So, the solution to that is to take that weapon, get a gunsmith kit/visit a local gunsmith and improve that weapon using parts you either by or get from bringing another compatible gun that you loot from another place.
The weapons you buy, should be in a fair condition, relatively new depending on the circumstances of being in an exclusion zone. Progressing through the game will grant you access to better gear and better traders, better upgrades and better loot in general. There is a small idea that might prove interesting tho, upgrades and gunsmith service should not be the same, at least not usually. If the main purpose of the game will be about making it dynamic on many levels (and by that I mean a vivid alive world where you revisit old places even if you already finished tasks/jobs there). In that case, it is better to give gunsmiths special skills in certain fields. If you want to improve your mag capacity, you go to a technician with the right set of skills to do it. Other gunsmith do other upgrades. And it should be highlighted through dialogs saying of Skiff, I am sorry, this is not my area of expertise.

What you’ve described is what it’s already like in CoP, just to a higher degree.
I don’t want S2 to just be a reskinned CoP, and I also like going on scavenging runs, so I think rare attachments are a good way to incentivize grabbing weapons off of dead enemies (which in the old games was pointless unless you wanted to use the gun yourself, because most of the time the durability is so trash nobody will buy it off of you)

Instead of dumping 2/3 of your cash on a single attachment, I liked it when I killed an enemy & they had a scope on their gun which I could use

I want something like it, but more fleshed out & repeatable (since after you find one scope for your primary weapon, you’re basically set for the rest of the game in the older titles)

It would kind of be like Fallout 4’s weapon attachments, but not ass (no crafting items, no linear upgrades)

Since crafting sucks for the most part

It is not like CoP, it is far more advanced than that. CoP had so many loopholes and players could just skip through to get things they are not supposed to get. What I described is a whole new system branched from the one we are familiar with

Your point is so agreeable when it comes to attachments. They must be implemented in the way you suggested. Basic attachments can be purchased, and found on bodies and not commonly. However, higher tier must be rare and can only obtained from specific quests/ late game shops and from hidden stashes/corps. They must be unique and extremely rare to make it invaluable and to give an extreme hype to the player when he finds it and knows that he's part of a few who did. (Those who cherish exploration and scavenging over the static way of gaming.

Oh yeah, I didn't mean to give then one only speciality. I said expertise. Instead of getting tools you know? I always said wtf when it comes to grabbing tools. I mean oh h&ll man, you are a gunsmith but you don't have tools? You gotta be joking right haha. So instead of that, a gunsmith must be able to do upgrades to a certain degree of expertise and direct you to other ones to complete your set. It's not just a speciality thing. That's perfectly realistic and fitting.

I think that stores should occasionally stock some of the better stuff, but for an exorbitant amount. Mainly just to show players “hey these items exist and are very valuable/rare”

I still don't know if the game will include the old good factions in full. If it does, the let's say duty (a paramilitary faction that suggests they are good with weapons) will be able to perform special upgrades or exclusive ones that no other can. Perhaps final upgrades might require the player to do a job and in this case, it's okay to grap tools for them

Yep, that too. Shops should be an exposition too, not necessarily just to sell. I would also add notes, voice lines and rumors among stalkers that highlights the existence of a certain item. Let's say skiff was sitting in a camp, the guys around will mention a rumor and not necessarily to the player but to each other. For example, Did you hear that man? They said that one legendary stalker who once been here hid something pretty valuable around here? But no one was able to find it yet. The other stalker replies, what would it be? The stalker telling the rumor, it's must be a weapon, an artifact? Or possibly something of great value. The stalker listening will say, oh then we should try and look for it in the morning.
The player then will feel curious, and will try and look around for it. Perhaps this way will make the game on another level of dynamic. It's a great idea to implement as it will make the player consider hearing chatters and things that being said around him instead of just playing brainlessly. I can hear @vernal magnet screaming like h&ll after finding a great item by listening to a campfire chat.

We actually need to suggest what we discussed here to the devs. They can filter whatever needs to be filtered and implement what can be implemented if seen fit?
