What does everyone think the best Stalker game is in the series? I’m pretty new to this game but am enjoying it a hell of a lot more than the Fallout series. I really think it’s too bad so many people suggest starting out with Anomaly.. it almost turned me off from the whole series until I purchased SoC

IG,its faithful to the OG in that regard,really glad they didnt go the SyS2 route and made it realistic and kinda sam-y looking since SyS1 was a funny and kind of zanny dungeon crawler

the gameplay is great and the additions that they made are faithful and very well put and balanced

i do prefer Gunslingers realistic approach to bringing up the PDA. the original was a kind of harsh with it instantly blanketing the entire screen. i like how gunslinger let you walk around with it out or bring it close to your face to interact with. Having it out made you more vulnerable, which was a nice touch

but mostly i would prefer if they would pull back on the new compass and go back to the PDA style minimap. it seems like the new interace has less emphasis on the PDA at all

But gunslinger could be a hassle by being a bit clunky. that is true

people underestimate the stability of stalker. it used to have alot of issues on the pre 1.005 versions and old video drivers. its fine to play now in vanilla on a modern system. Mods change alot about the games. Vanilla is always the move for a first playthrough

0 completely removes it and makes it mechanical, 0.21 preserves a nice value that gives some life to your movements but does not make it nauseating.

Default value is 0.7 if you for some reason want to return to that.

It's not DX9 native shaders. It's a carryover of DX8. Justl Iike 9.0c is not remotely the same as DX9. Stalker uses DX8 shaders. That's DX8. The rendering pipeline as a whole is not DX8. But it uses DX8 legacy features. The shaders. It's pretty simple. Nobody ever stated that stalker uses a DX8 pipeline. We told you it uses DX8 shaders, which it does.

It's like how CS used DX10.1 but in reverse.

It was additional feature sets that would become standard in DX11 shortly later on but not standard for DX10. Like how previous shader models were kept around for DirectX9 before being phased out.

The console commands force your DX9 renderer to use the DX8 shaders. That's all it is

Also use your first 1000ru in game to upgrade your pmm and your swaed off shotgun, but don't take the precision upgrade for the shotgun it will lock her to only use slug shells

You can get a seva suit for complete the loners faction war objectives, but it's quite hard bc the loners are too slow and bad equipped. I really don't know how the loners keep together for so long

Storywise, I think Call of Pripyat is the weakest. But with the best gameplay loop. The only two things I hate about CS is the ending and the grenade spam.
Shadow of Chernobyl is a masterpiece though.

I finished SoC for the first time with the "best" ending. I only finished with the monolith ending in 2007. But I really enjoyed my time just artifact hunting and side missions, this time.

Got to the end of CS, but just can't really finish it. But I have finished it before.

Call of Pripyat I am currently trying to get through again. But has been the worst one for me so far. It's a slog. But I have played it to death, back in 2010. Call of Pripyat is the only one I had to mod because of the FOV

Then played through it again, got back to Yantar, and just got frustrated with it. It's a lot of going back-and-forth.

Just passed the mission to give Sidorovich his case in Clear Sky.. loving the game so far. Combat actually feels like a big upgrade to me over SoC

Indeed it does! Though do be warned, accuracy will frustrate you very soon as I ran into some issues regarding shot groupings with my rifles around that time, be sure to spec into accuracy and recoil on your weapons when upgrading, and always get those upgrade flash drives when you can, it's free rubles (unless you need to buy the stash locations to them).

Yeah accuracy is tough, but it feels like my bullets are more effective than SoC. A good shot pays off a lot more and feels really good

I gave a flash drive to the mechanic guy back at the swamp and I just picked up another in my Cordon travels

My big tip for any STALKER game is to use those armor piercing rounds and aim for anything above the shoulders, sounds like common sense but you've no idea how often people hoard those AP rounds without knowing, SoC is a big one when it comes to that

I love a game that is really good (and in a fun/interesting) way delivering a narrative that's fairly rigid (good for imsim RP vibes). Just beat the first two Metros for the first time and felt like I was playing a book in a really satisfying way. Plenty of other games have the make your own character RP thing. Can also definitely just mod yourself in, especially in UE easily. People were playing as Spiderman with a glock the day Hogwarts came out

Having your name and face in Freeman's place, like yeah silent protag, project into them sure, but it would be good to have your name and imagine your face under the helmet or something idk it wasn't really that serious a request I was trying to make, I was just making the point that I enjoy the prospect of inserting myself directly into a setting sometimes (though not specifically with Half-Life, I'm fine with Shepherd if anything.)

Sorry if this is a very commonly asked question, but where is the recommended place to start with the Stalker games? I originally thought to start with SoC, but then i heard about modding and now im seeing complete modded games and such?
