Anomaly is good in many ways but just as bad. The foundation is great and the fact that it brings so many new people to the franchise. The big flaw in my opinion though is the story, the non cannon sequel story is okay but It would be vastly better if it had the original 3 stories instead that have to be played in order before the anomaly storylines start. I dunno maybe Im just wrong

I had someone claim they are a Stalker Veteran because they had put over 1000 hours into Anomaly. No you are an Anomaly veteran, to be a Stalker veteran you need to start by playing Stalker.

Somebody who likes Clear Sky, please tell me what redeems that game for you. I don't see it. I just finished replaying it for the first time in years and I never exited out of a game to uninstall it faster. I almost can't believe it's from the same people that made Shadow of Chernobyl and Call of Pripyat (< actually fun and amazing games).

The faction war system is one of the main things that ruined the game for me. I got really sick and tired of hearing about the Loners losing Garbage and Cordon because they were sending guys with sawn off shotguns and Makarov pistols to defend camps from 20-strong packs of dogs and bandits with AK-74s and Winchester 1200s.

Lol. Even with SRP, the final sequence still broke. Strelok fell through the path to the final ladder he climbs and landed on the ground. Fortunately, he fell in a place where I could just barely get an angle on him and finish him off. It helped that, because he was knocked off his path with no way back, he was just standing still.

Great diverse characters, awesome graphics, cool level design of Swamps and Red Forest and Limansk, very cool story sequence from Red Forest to Limansk too (arguably the strongest part of the game), the hardest economy in the series so you really kinda commit to your equipment. It's not polished by any means but I'll take it over boring ass CoP any day

I feel like they had the intention to have the player first play the story, then play freeplay and complete all the side quests (otherwise there's so little point in placing both calibration tools on the last level)

but like you can't get a full squad without first doing some of the side quests

the game has a story that suits a corridor shooter like Metro with levels bigger than the original, without a single random anomaly anywhere - you can run without a suit and avoid all danger across the level

to have fun or any danger you literally have to put yourself in harm's way instead of being subjected to it most of the time

huge levels with so much potential for more storytelling but most of the places in the game you never visit more than once

Perhaps I am clouded by nostalgia for CoP and salty because of the ending sequence of CS. CoP was the first STALKER game I played. When I first played it many years ago, I thought it was the only STALKER game, and I had a lot of fun.

I played ShoC next because I heard about it next, and was told it was the best game in the series. Personally, I still like CoP the best, but I can see why people would favor ShoC above all. I would say that ShoC has the best atmosphere (by a good bit, even) and most interesting narrative.

Truth be told, I even liked Clear Sky quite a bit, up until Limansk. Sure, the voice acting was rather grating, Scar has the stamina of someone who straight up smokes asbestos and far less health than either Strelok or Major Degtyarev, and the faction system was quite annoying. However, the combat was way more fun than ShoC's and I liked exploring ShoC's levels with updated graphics. However, Limansk, the hospital, and the CNPP were a nightmare. The difficulty of the final three levels boiled down to the old, "Let's spawn a bunch of enemies with high health/damage on top of the player."

anomaly is not the same as vanilla, i never play anomaly and really only do vanilla soc and cs but anomaly is close enough to the stalker formula, if someone has nothing else to play I'm fine with them trying it but only as long as they know it's not the same thing, anomaly is based off the og games but it certainly doesnt fully replicate the atmosphere, story, and beauty of the og games
