No, it’s like having a retro car. That’s it, it’s retro, you don’t need to try and update how it looks or feels, it’s already perfect for what it is.

Stalker community would be smaller, of course, but it would be better as all people playing the game are people who actually enjoy it without the need to change anything about it.

Actual fans instead of people playing a tactical shooter in the same setting.

Like, with every other old game there is still a small community of fans with high quality of discussions. Because they actually commit to the series.

This, unfortunately, does not apply to stalker. If you start a conversation about anything that is not that available to people who played the game just once or outright never played it, nobody will be able to keep up that discussion.

I’d love to see what happened to stalker if it was never moddable. I believe the community would be higher quality.

I'm not gonna say you're wrong but I think your attitude about the community makes you sound like a purist and I don't think STALKER Would be anywhere near as popular without modding. The games were admittedly pretty broken upon their original releases.

Even simple modding and unofficial patches brought this game out of its dark age. Before like 2011 it was an extremely niche community. Now with CoC and Anomaly among others it's introduced huge swathes of gamers to the series as a whole.

Right now we have people who start with Animaly and unironically ask who Strelok is. People who think stalker is a tactical sandbox shooter. People who compare it to Tarkov.

This does not apply to stalker. Because people don’t actually explore ACTUAL officially released stalker games, they quickly move on to mods or even skip the trilogy.

I only play them unmodded, But I tolerate modding to an extent.(as long as you played it vanilla all the way through once.)

Yea but you also need to look at it from game world's perspective and the purpose each gun will serve. Take anomaly with boomsticks addon, there are literally too many guns and over half of them are useless or you won't even touch them, meanwhile vanilla trilogy has clear progression and each gun serves a purpose.

In anomaly I pretty much never touched any ww2 guns except maybe the SKS and the Mosin.

And its literally a waste of dev resources to model, animate, and record audio for weapons the player will likely never use.

Sure, but faster RPM=more perceived recoil, and 5.45 as a round is good enough. Considering where the game is taking place I imagine AK variant weapons will also be more common, so you would be able to loot the ammo more often off of dead people. Not to mention the AK platform has better mod support but we will see how far that will be implemented.
