Don't play Anomaly as a first experience

Buy STALKER Shadow of Chernobyl (SoC) on Steam or GoG, it's the first vanilla game of the trilogy, then there's STALKER Clear Sky (CS) and then STALKER Call of Pripyat (CoP), start with STALKER SoC

It's basically the Chornobyl exclusion zone but it's also anomalous due to some "events" that you will figure out, no criminals are forced to get in there, instead there are people, criminals or not, who goes there illegally in order to get rich by getting "artifacts" and such, while some like the military are there for institutional work (protect and ensure that no one gets in), while some are fanatics and some like the scientists are there to study it (legally)

Remember to manual save too

The "1st zone" or whatever you say doesn't exist, what you see in the PDA, the maps, are basically areas of the Zone, the Zone is only one and it's where STALKER is located on

If you go in the PDA and look in it (with zoom out) you can see the name of the map

Get used to the names of the maps, instead of calling it areas

i would say you should play the original trilogy, the gameplay systems overall are much easier to pick on and you will be following the lore in order

anomaly's more of like a weird, dark chocolate with a bunch of extra things on it, which is still good on its own but others might find it too weird

yeah, well, i personally find it weird to get into a franchise by not playing the games in order, and in this case, it's just so you can understand the lore

call of pripyat is the best in mechanics, so you could perhaps start by it because it presents the best features, is the less buggy, the best looking and will get you ready for anomaly and whatever mods will present you

clear sky, in the lore, is the prequel to shadow of chernobyl, so you can start by it and get into stalker through some sort of "true" order, and it also introduces improved the looks and the mechanics that followed up into call of pripyat
but, people know clear sky for being "weak" in the lore and being buggy, so i wouldn't really recommend it to you...? perhaps it could make you leave with a bad taste in the mouth for the franchise

shadow of chernobyl is the first game we all got, not much to say about it, you'll learn the basics and get into stalker's universe by the most natural way

if i was you i would try shadow of chernobyl first, i like things to occur naturally

cop is the most mechanically refined in the series but also a lot of people's least favorite if they're looking for action and a semblance of story and not just running around the same 3 maps with occasional setpieces

would agree to start with soc first if only for gameplay evolution and story, even if you never go back to it

vanilla soc is playable but I don't think there's a strong case to play it strictly vanilla (not even bugfixes) unless you're interested in a historical sense or you're doing a challenge run for youtube

There is, because ZRP is not strictly a bugfix. It adds a ton of extra stuff from the box that may significantly alter the understanding of vanilla game for newcomers.

I compared in-game texts between vanilla and ZRP and there are some places where it adds new lore.

I would not advise it to beginners at all.

the game is working differently than other games when it comes to difficulty. Enemies take more bullets the lower the difficulty is because you deal less damage. So on master it feels like normal difficulty, its the best way to go regardless of game knowledge. But yeah it is more immersive aswell

• Adds a mention that Bes is Wolf’s friend to Wolf’s dialogue and tells you about a secret stash.
• Changes dialog with Sid for pseudodog tail quest.
• Changes Arnie dialog to add a bit about where player inventory goes to.
• Modifies some of random dialogs about scientists to add mentions of another bunker (which is proven non-canon with CoP).

Just off the top of my head, there are way more. And that’s just text comparison, there are many gameplay changes as well.

Nah, it's because... What made STALKER different from other games is the world being completely disinterested in the player. The player's complete lack of importance, and their actions not mattering in the grand scheme of things.

It's more of a feeling than anything, but it's what made STALKER so bleak and dreary.

No, mirroring you only design one side of a weapon to save on resources/work and then just 'mirror' that side when held on the opposite side. In the trailer we saw the gun from ALL angles, and they have simply jammed the ejection port and cocking handle onto one side, even though the opposite side is just as detailed but has neither.

its my first time playing through the stalker series and i just finished shadow of chernobyl

def got one of the false endings. i looked up all the endings after i finished and im not sure if i can get either of the true endings with how i saved my games

You can. Meet up with Guide and Doctor and find the door in CNPP to open it up with the decoder

The rest will be up to you, you'll have 2 choices

Not really. You should probably load a save from Pripyat before you entered Chernobyl

And go back all the way to Cordon

Because when you enter Chernobyl you have no way back from that point on

Honestly it depends mostly on what you prefer...
You can make out most of the story while playing the game with or without it, but there's a certain point in that direction that gives you more background and everything

I have 350 hours on Clear Sky just on Steam. It’s fine.

I know the game by heart and trust me, it needs absolutely no “community patch”.

It’s better to play with a couple of issues here and there than experienced the game modded and altered from actual developer vision on your first time.

There is also a Belarusian newspaper in Loki’s cabinet in CoP.

Also some mentions in cut content, in particular, a never appearing local folklore story.

They say there’s this one gang... People call them Shamans or Druids. So it appears they don’t use any electronic equipment at all, say they want to stay close to the nature and stuff… Well, they reason the Zone reacts stronger to equipment… To all this electromagnetic emissions or something… They say it attracts monsters. Basically, they believe the Zone is like a living being, you know. Like, it’s no good going into it with all these gadgets. If you’re right in your mind you’ll get by fine without ‘em. Doesn't stop them from carrying assault rifles, though… Guess the old teeth and nails are not up to the task, eh? But then again, you don’t hear a lot of stories about one of them kicking the bucket. Well, at least no more than about us… So, who knows, maybe they are on the right track there… They seem to be coming more from the Belarussian side, though… I’d like to have a look at them one day and check out their pockets for some artifacts…
