Doing early side missions and looting stashes thoroughly in the first few areas will set you up for success for the rest of the game

No, but you need to have at least a bit of reputation. If you want to keep total neutrality for man of balance you can turn magpie into either duty or freedom and go back to gonta afterwards, that qualifies you for both man of balance and for recruiting Strider

Hi all. I am having some graphic bug with modded Clear Sky (not EE). I get this ugly shadow banding thats especially noticeable when I'm moving. I'm using Arsenal Overhaul Redux and am really enjoying it except for this ugly glitch.

It seems like something to do with the SSAO cause it goes away when I turn it off but then the game looks flat and ugly

In Shadow of Chornobyl and Clear Sky all of the NPCs keep existing even when you are far away from them and they never despawn. They keep walking around, they keep fighting each other and you can meet same NPCs in different places doing different things even after hours of gameplay. Or... Well... You can find their corpses. That's all you need to know, really

Currently Stalker 2 doesn't have a system that is close to the original games in terms of persistence and NPC activity on the map but the developers are promising to deliver it, sooner or later

Yeah they introduced a new system for the save files where instead of the name being the name of the save file directly, it’s now stored in a separate text file, and it takes a while to load due to EE save bloat

For me it’s like a 3sec freeze on a top tier PC

I’ve heard some people having 20sec or even the menu not opening at all

Best you can do is go to your Saved Games and clean up some useless old saves

NPCs use normal bread. The same one you eat. That’s why they have food in their inventory.

As in, you can always trade some.

And if you buy it from them, they won’t use it. Can even snatch mid-bite if you have fast hands, it disappears from their hands.

It was at some point meant to be used by NPCs and that’s why it exists, that part is true. But it’s a completely useless obsolete item in release game.

No. Consoles are more strict about publishing. You can only have 1 version of the product. PS5 is a little different in a sense that you can install either the PS4 OR the PS5 version of the game (as long as you have a PS5), but it still has to be the same copy.

Basically the EE update forced a ton of unwanted censorship & bugs onto console players.

And I've already asked them twice if they'll update the Switch 2 version, alas no response.

Either way base game is easily my top-3 favourite videogame experiences, it's very well designed in all areas, from writing to game design to gameplay to sound. I haven't seen a well rounded project like that in a while.

I played through it when I was depressed and it left a VERY good impression. I love games that defy everything game design teaches you lol.

there are basically no tutorials, you dont know what your goal is, how to achieve, even how to use mechanics, you achieve stuff through figuring it out on your own

and in the age where every game only thinks about how to make the tutorial as non-intrusive as possible, actually FIGURING stuff is hella satisfying

it also doesn't allow you to savescum. Once you start a... cycle, so to say, you need to finish it, or else it treats it like you died. And if you die, there are punishments.

Last year at dayone I started STALKER 2 without having played any of the previous ones but given the problems that Stalker 2 had at launch, I abandoned it practically immediately after the tutorial and I said to myself: why not try playing the first 3 STALKER while waiting for STALKER 2 to be improved?
Well today I finished CoP after obviously finishing the first magical SoC and CS. All done between December 2024 and now.
It was worth it to finish all three despite having almost 20 years on their backs.
Maybe now I'll try some mods like Anomaly/Gamma, Misery or Priboi Story and after a little break then I'll start Stalker2.

otherwise, yeah you bleed a lot more easily in CS. Loot every stash you get early game though and you will get stocked up on supplies

No, EE has worse mod support in general. It’s slightly easier to mod but what you can and cannot mod is more limited and there are 100x less mods for it.
