It's not about being good at the job, development takes a lot of time and money regardless. GSC isn't the size of other studios, but tried maybe a game bigger than them. it's mostly stuff that changed the authors vision: atmosphere is not the same at all, it scrapped some important guns for some tacticool ones, the UI doesn't display some important information, some quests are even more confusing than the original (which is an achivement), and even tho save corruption and bugs are fixed, it includes some other bugs. And save corruption can still happen, just much much much less than the original.
It also take the cooking and digging videos which game a lot of soul to the lore, as well as some other stuff
