Yeah I have a mid-range laptop and wasn’t fannying around with my computer settings to get the game running any better because i knew it wasn’t happening with memory leaks etc, that can only be fixed by devs really. Or some hot shot modder like Mr. Demonized.

Yeah, not my thing, I use veles so I can avoid anomalies fairly easy, except gas but those are pretty much impossible to avoid half the time

Nah there's a Stalker mod for the OG series called Gunslinger. It's kinda hard on Master tbh, Burer PTSD from that shit.

But yeah Gunslinger also redone the ballistics and it's pretty much you die fast, but NPCs also die fast. Kinda like it that way, feels a lot more realistic. But for some reason they made Burers the hardest mfs in the game. Like unreasonably hard lol.

actually, weirdly enough because of some anomalies like the fire ones, its less of an amount of times, its more so like it has a durability. which yes it do reset during each emission.. personally i always try to keep it in my inventory when i dont need it so it never depletes if i accidentally hit a random weak anomaly

Don’t buy every upgrade though, some are kinda, meh, not really needed and each upgrade bumps the repair prices by quite a bit.

I’ve only upgraded my Lullaby and Nightstalker so far. Lullaby has the NVG adaptation and mainly the upgrades that reduce the wear and tear so I don’t have to repair it as often, Nightstalker has the damage upgrade and that’s about it really.

And I’m using the Merc Light armour with no upgrades lol.

Even though I have the Bulat armour.

I really hope with this engine upgrade they do, they can finally fix the players shadow. It’s goofy asf.

The upgrades are particularly strong on the saiga. Especially with the drum as the recoil gets tamed a lot, lets you spam against bloodsuckers or anything really.

I can already do that just by dragging my mouse down the way slightly while rapid firing the Saiga.

But if you’re on console I can see that being a bit more.. iffy to do lol.

you can get artifacts that increase your weight limit, you can also upgrade certain suits and most exoskeletons give a big boost, besides that, leave with very little from the base. But the gameplay loop does very much revolve around leaving and coming back to safezones, yes.

And uses stashes to store loot you might want to pick up later

They both have better graphics, especially clear sky.
But I would recommend playing the game with mod, for example Sky Renewal, or mod that focuses on fixing bugs and adding features, not ones that alter anything else that's not gunplay.
Let's say Clear Sky with all bugs fixed, and a better gunplay is the way.
Stay away from ABR since I'm not sure how to recommend you.

The reason why combat in SoC is so anus is because of the way guns work in that game.
1)None of them are accurate, the chance of your shot missing is extremely high, of course this depends on the gun but overall still high regardless.
2)they have a headshot cool down, let say within half a second or so after doing a headshot, the next headshots won't do damage.

Granted Stalker isn't all about combat, but they can at least make it more bearable.

You can, it's springboard flying glitch, you'll get fling enough to the point where u can get one corner of the map to another, but i did from red forest to burnt forest, timing for the glitch is hell.

Yeah I think as time goes on it will surpass the trilogy. I have only played shadow of Chernobyl and Clear Sky but they seem to have improved a lot. One of my biggest pet peeves though is the way they have changed blood suckers. They used to be quite dangerous but now they feel far too common and have lost some of the original attacks/fear factor because they’re very easy to read. It was good they increased the health of pretty much all mutants compared to the OG trilogy though, as a lot of mutants died too quickly (snorks especially, usually 1-2 bullets of common ammo)

Yeah it’s strange blind dogs/pseudo dogs and fleshes used to be more common at least in earlier game areas of the trilogy, whereas more dangerous mutants were found in Labs or underground where it was already scary. Bloodsuckers seem to be more common than lower tier mutants (snorks, dogs, rats)

Anyone else feel like the Zone just doesn't feel dangerous enough/is dangerous enough? Pripyat has the feeling some times but for the most part I never feel like I'm encountering much danger. Red Forest was even more disappointing with how safe and empty it felt.

I do think that GSC did nail the atmosphere, but if there was an aspect of it that I think could be improved on, it's the feeling of danger. (And the actual presence of danger, but I'd put the feeling as being more important for atmosphere.)

Maybe it's the 100m "online" A-Life radius and the fact that Chimeras and Pseudogiants just aren't part of the spawns for some reason.
