I can't understand one thing - has gsc already fixed all the problems in the game? Have they properly optimized their "unbelievable" product? Have they fixed all the bugs? Have they fixed the crooked visuals (hello black rooms)? Have they added a normal amount of content to the map? Have they fixed the RENDERING DISTANCE so that trees don't appear in front of you like in minecraft? Maybe after almost a year, they've added the long-awaited a-life? Have they refined the AI so that they at least can't see you at night from 100 km away? Was any of this done in almost a year? Probably yes, since the developers have time to mess around and try to ban games made for two packs of crackers by one person on their knees. If it really turns out to be because of some music or models, it will be a complete disgrace. I really don't understand gsc. We all understand why Stalker 2 gained such popularity and 70-80% positive reviews. But apparently, the developers think that since they received "honest" and "maximally objective" positive reviews, the game is almost perfect? There are so many problems with it that you'll get tired of counting them. When will I be able to play the release version of the game, not the beta for the 60 euro? In a year? Two? Or is there no plan to refine the game at all, and the next updates will be along the lines of "we've improved the a-Life system! Now enemies spawn not 3 meters behind you, but 20!"

You're mistaken. In vanilla SOC for offline, there was a cleaner who cleaned up the consequences of offline very quickly.
Unless you saw quest NPCs.

alife didnt changed since release , the only thing they modify was

• adding offline mode with a set amount of time for despawning a npcs at 100mts distance
• the adition of type of spawn based on certain lair type
• locking the render distance to 100mts so you couldnt modify the alife through cfg

But those changes were back in 1.2 or 1.3 i dont remember, alife hasnt changed (despite those notes by GSC "some small alife improvement" which are absolutely not related to alife)

the cleaner happend once every couple of days, to clean up the areas and not having hundred corpses lying around, the cleaner system didnt affected the ownership of the lair type, if garbage was taken by the bandits, and the cleaner ticked its timer, the cleaner will clean corpses and items on the ground , and leave the bandits as they were, it will not replace them with loners, so the consequences stayed

I think GSC has always tried to blend the narrative styles of both Stalker (the film) and Roadside Picnic with the games' stories. I think S2 is the closest they've ever gotten to achieving that imo.

Its issue was that it launched buggy as sin and with non-working side quests

Well I think the deeper parts and themes of the stories also require deeper thinking on the player's part, which is something that most people either refuse or are straight-up incapable of doing.

Like I said, my impression is that GSC's goal with the games' stories has always been to try and emulate the narrative style of Roadside Picnic and Stalker (1979). Both pieces of media require a bit more effort from the reader/viewer to understand the themes and what they're trying to say with their stories.

yea thats one thing i would actually change from the S2 story, it feels like the main quest pushes the player around too fast , sometimes i would like to stay in one area and get familiar with the zone ,but if i follow the main quest it pushes me to next map and then the next map.

Yes, that happens in original games too, I know that very well (happens a lot with mutants, especially). My issue with HoC is that it looks like it ONLY spawns squads in a similar way (just a little bit further from the online bubble) meanwhile you can clearly see that in CS the NPCs can spawn in their bases no matter where you are and they never disappear from the map randomly. I'm not an expert on the topic so it's hard for me to say about the way they spawn in SoC and CoP, considering broken events in SoC (for example, bandits spawning like every single time you enter Garbage location or mercs spawning on that one building in Wild Territory) or considering watered down A-Life in CoP but still... There's a simple fact: the original games already had a system with persistent NPCs that are able to spawn anywhere in the zone (At least in CS they did) and then that system could be modified to become something like the system we can see in mods like AMK, Anomaly (and other mods based on CoC), OLR, etc. Currently it looks like Stalker 2 just doesn't have a system that can be modified like this (A system that is able to spawn persistent NPCs all over the zone naturally, like CoC based mods do, stuff like that). Am I wrong?

@rough lintel Nanite doesnt seem properly configurated, if you disable nanite in the cfg, the performance of the game skyrockets in terms of fps, when going from the wild to a small town or city , the game drops its frames a lot, clearly the game is rendering things we cannot even see. Unoptimized assets inside buildings.
Also the trees in game look really really sheety, if you change the density of trees , the performance drops significally, vegetation was a factor in performance across most games but never to this extent , just having 15 more trees on screen the game drops 25fps thats insane.

If Gray Zone Warfare, a much smaller dev team, managed to get a 20% increase in performance by updating to 5.5, you can bet your ass that the gains will be atleast around the same. But i do think we wont see much of those gain since they will, hopefully, unlock much better engine/game features like improved render distance for foliage, and if god wills it, Actor/NPC/Online Simulation range

I agree that its not just engine upgrade, they probably did a lot of optimization to their assets, pipeline, etc. But im sure some of those optimizations are also possible due to the engne upgrade. Anyways, what i meant to say is that GSC will probably see some similar raw performance gain, if not more. They wouldnt be spending the bulk of their dev time on that if it was just going to be a 10% performance increase. Better to be optimistic about it. The game has had already like a 15-20% better performance, at least from my side, since release

Maybe they fix some underlying issues that they also could have done in 5.1 but do in 5.5 instead.
Just in caution since it also can backfire cuz some devs reported that they lost performance but that was due to bad switch to the newer version. With assets and plug-ins related. And for now I don’t expect them to do better.

For me and other people the performance dropped since the A life updates so it’s better than day 0 I would expect them still to implement and improve a life and with it lower their gain of performance.

Maybe the better parallelizing will help them improving alife better but that needs to be seen. I have no inside in to their development so maybe next year we will see

Its quite a complex system it will take a lot of time to make. Probably 50% of the development time for OG stalker was alife
