If you are trying to choose a direction why not look at cross platform? 👀 The future is more and more web based, react / react native
Use java problem solved
But yea i guess there aremore ios since ppl thinks its more "secure and better"
Based on the camera
I prefer native. I’ve seen a lot of people talking bout the limitations of cross platform for platform specific issues
Im currently considering android/frontend
I don’t like backend
With todays react native and especially with expo the experience is supposedly great
I haven’t tried it myself but I’ve hears great things
I mean Im not against it but I prefer being an expert, with the ability to go very deep
If I’m using flutter lets say
I don’t recommend flutter
Flutter doesn’t use the native layers it builds its own hacky solutions
While expo uses the native apis
I can be an expert in Rn but I can only go so far without platform specific knowledge
I mean it looks like you’ve made up ur mind already :p
Even tho under the hood it compiles natively
Nope
Im stuck between doing front end or native android
On one hand, I have a pretty good grasp on css
Html should be the easiest
And I’ve coded in kotlin and Python
So js shouldn’t be difficult
If you learn frontend webdev then you can easily use RN for mobile apps if needed
Doesnt that seem like a win win
But I feel like front end devs are frequently tasked to do backend if there’s no backend dev available
Nah not in the projects I’ve done
So it’s like a full stack dev with specialty in front end
But more and more backend work is merging with frontend
Interesting
True
Honestly in 5 years I’d say you can’t get away with not doing any backend work
I mean in big tech
People are prolly so specialised
Front end may be broken down into further areas
Nah
In smaller companies, yea can’t get away without doing backend
Better to have someone well rounded
This is understandable
I see more small companies having dedicated frontend and backend teams than big tech lol
But again
Depends which team ur on
So ur saying that front end dev is just full stack dev specialised in front end, same for backend devs?
Lmao what
In that case, I should seriously consider android lol
I don’t mind doing web but I prefer being an expert
Oh well
And if i work on both front end and back end, im not a specialist
Oh u were saying companies prefer people who are well rounded
Than experts
You are limiting the scope of jobs u can take
Tbh if I could choose again I wouldn’t choose developer lol
You sit at a desk for 8+ hours a day that’s why :p
And btw let’s say i wanna do front end, how much of backend do u think is minimum? Being able to build a rest api..
How long have u worked as a dev?
Like 3 years
Mostly backend / devops some frontend this year
Do u regret web dev tho
Why? Cuz u wanna suffer more
So I can influence the entire application
