jerry The following are some of the new Souls that we're currently working on. Can you guess whose Souls are these?

  • Equipped unit attacks a nearby enemy when it receives damage. Cooldown 2s.
  • Equipped unit’s attacks explode on their target after 3s, dealing 5 damage per tier in a small area.
  • Equipped unit explodes on death, dealing 20 damage per tier in a small area.
  • Equipped unit recovers 4 Health per tier every 4s when it is below 50% Health.
  • Equipped unit attacks an enemy the first time it enters its reach. Cooldown 1s.
  • Equipped unit restores nearby allies 2 Health per tier when it recovers Health and also when it kills an enemy.
  • Equipped unit grants +5% plus 5% per tier resistance and +100% movement speed to it and nearby allies when it receives damage. Lingers 9s. Cooldown 15s.

jerry We're also doing some reworks on some of the current Souls:

  • Equipped unit has +20% critical hit chance.
  • Equipped unit reduces the first damage they receive to 1.

These are probably not the final abilities. We're also evaluating developing some new tech for other cool effects! But we wanted to spark the conversation about Souls, so we can also receive as much feedback as possible to give you the best possible Souls we can!

Re: the potential changes to existing souls: given the extremely high cost via sacrificing a Lvl 30 unit (and all the scrolls + gold that goes into it), it would be a tough pill to swallow if players suddenly lost the specific benefit that they toiled to acquire for a particular soul.

For any tweaks to existing souls, will there be something temporarily in place to enable players who have already invested in those souls to either convert to a new type of soul, or else to at least have that unit+vessel refunded?

We haven't decided how to handle that yet. But, for sure, we'll look for ways of compensating users that own those Souls if the changes are too drastic.

We know we're not keeping the Tank Soul's effect in the game because the problem with that Soul is that specific effect that can be used to troll. Other Souls we want to update we feel are not interesting enough to be kept in the game in the first place, so I don't think we'll move those effects to other systems. So there's a point on granting compensations in those cases.

I understand the grief some people have with the Tank Soul, but I would much rather put up with those instances than lose it's benefits.

I love archer soul, please don't remove/change that so it's unrecognizable. 🙂 I am excited to get new souls as well. These sound fun!

As someone who has been trolled a lot with tank souls, especially in Clash by opposing parties, I have a love hate relationship with it. I think it's beneficial for sure, in dungeons and sometimes even campaign, as I have requested it as a Captain and followed Captain requests to use it and it's saved our butts during those times. I'd hate to see it go.

To be completely honest, I'd rather continue to ban the handful of people who repeatedly troll with tank soul, because if they're being poor sports about something and trolling like that, I'd rather not have them in my community or have them be able to affect my community going forward.

Also, friends in the community friendly troll each other with it (knowingly, not hiding it) and it makes for some fun and hilarious memories. It would be a shame to lose that aspect too. @eager badge here's looking at you BethLaugh

My main thought at the moment is how is the game (specifically enemies/challenge) going to evolve with the influx of new souls? The current game can be easily won w/out souls so buffing units that don't need buffing under the current game difficulty doesn't have a lot of value other than giving people something to do with their duplicate units. I'm in favour of souls, I like souls, but i feel the game difficulty would need adjusting if these souls are suddenly available.

Oh my gosh! PLEASE DO NOT GET RID OF THE TANK SOUL!

I understand the grief surrounding it, but it is extremely useful.

I started a conversation a while ago hoping to brainstorm https://discord.com/channels/500415557800296449/1199772238698795079, but I do not like the idea of it being completely removed from the game.

As, Shelley suggested, I'd rather just deal with the trolls when it's an issue, than to not have it at all. My personal experiences within the community, even recently, have all been positive. It's been around long enough, we see less of the trolling and more of it being utilized strategically.

I was the designer who pushed to have Tank souls in the game. Other designers correctly identified that something like this could happen. And I underestimated the ability of high-level players to grief. So I had to eat my words and we're removing it.

But when we say we're removing that from the game, we mean specifically mechanics that will allow players to grief. Tank soul could make a comeback in another form in the future 😉

I could see a value in simply letting the tank soul pin the single unit in which it resides. Still technically some griefing potential, but the impact is drastically reduced unless someone went to stupidly extraordinary lengths to abuse it.

Could even give the defensive buff a small boost as a way to compensate for the change.

Please plan an option to refund soul after rework because going from original tank soul with interesting defensive zone to first damage cancel seems absolutely not worth it for a level 30 unit sacrifice. Just a tank with basic archer soul or any damage soul will just probably be better.

The new souls look good. Maybe the one to get 2 HP/tier to allies will create infinite healing with multiple units with it equiped tho

If you are going to flood the game with more souls can we have a new enemy unit the "Soul Reaper" who can take our souls and use them itself against us? 😆

I'm curious, how often the designers play the game outside of some testing? Tank soul needs to remain in some fashion. Make that one unit stay in place and just grant a 30 second defensive buff to those around it but are free to move. If anything fix the bug that doesn't show the tank soul equipped until after it is placed in battle. Your game bugging is NOT somebody trolling

How about a toggle on whether or not the captain allows tank souls in the battle, that way the soul can stay?
I like to use it when I'm looting (which is usually perceived as bad, but I gotta get that plunder somehow).
I've seen it being cleverly used on dungeons several times and in pvp from time to time. But when it comes to pvp, I see it being used all the time to sabotage the enemy.
I believe a toggle would make all sides of the story happy.

The new Tank soul protecting against just one attack seems at first glance a little unimpressive. Maybe if it protected against the first attack that hits it and all additional attacks for the next 3s?

if we have to change the tank soul i'd completely change it and make it have an "unbreakable" quality where the unit with the soul restores 50% of it's health when taking a fatal blow (30 seconds cooldown)

Please ensure the arch soul is NOT changed. As a player for just over a year I've worked very hard to get 6 of them and would be very upset if you changed them.

My only thoughts on the souls thus far (I do not have the resources to test all of them yet) is I wish that armored unit souls, for example, were not all the same color. It makes it a little tricky telling them apart quickly when I sort by armored soul and they are all blue, and we ABSOLUTLY need to be able to swap them quickly for PVP. I love the rework on the Tank/Rogue souls, while the tank soul used to have a very useful function when used well, it's could do great harm if somebody was malicious or forgot it was on that unit. I am a little confused by the description of the Lancer soul however, because I thought all units attacked an enemy unit when it entered their reach..... I want to test it but considering my limited lancer units and/or soul vessels it is hard without understanding it better.

Possible test in duels: On one side have three non-spec Artillery spaced out (or run multiple tests with one Artillery each) using no soul, Lancer soul, and Archer soul for comparison. On the other side, create a long column of enemy Tanks walking single file towards the Artillery.
Expected outcome for Lancer soul: Artillery shoots every 1s at the next enemy in line to enter attack range, and it shoots every ~7.14s at the closest enemy.
