#

By that time you need to also motherboard power supply and cooler swap

high radish
light holly
#

imo.. if a mobo could look generic.. that proart one def looks generic.

grand orbit
#

It does look kind of clean but there's literally no reason to get it even at the reduced price

fair moon
#

looks fine to me

#

visual wise

#

almost all black with some bronze accents

#

though the audio visualizer graphic over the IO looks a little odd

azure pond
#

omg guys, h510 is on sale for $70

stoic crest
cinder kiln
#

They'll give me $70 to take it? teriderp

azure pond
#

id pay $30 for it, since i can dremmel it

cinder kiln
#

The nzxt bois: WHOA WHAT!? CUSTOM FLOW EDITION?

stoic crest
#

nzxt has to pay me $70 to use that oven

#

then i will shill for them

#

well they better pay me to use their products kekw

#

then imma be the nzxt fan

fair moon
#

that TUF case with the strap on the front lmao

#

good value bundle tho

#

well maybe not that great its a good motherboard not weird oem stuff

#

if only there was a microcenter close to me

azure pond
#

Throw a 10400f in that for $120, and a 16gb kit of ram for $50, and you've got a sub $800 3060 ti build

fair moon
#

yeah I was thinking prebuilt quality parts but its a microcenter bundle so better than I thought

azure pond
#

Yeah, psu is good enough, more than fine for a 3060 ti. Case has decent airflow, mobo I'm not sure in but it's easily enough for a 10400-11400 (depending on prices)

fair moon
#

the mobo looks nice

#
ASUS USA

Boasting a robust power design, comprehensive cooling solutions and intelligent tuning options, these ASUS motherboards provide daily users and DIY PC builders a range of performance tuning options via intuitive software and firmware features.

pulsar fable
azure pond
#

That's kinda clean

azure pond
#

Though that is $55 more than a 10400f rn

#

So eh

#

Could go either way

pulsar fable
#

Just giving options

#

Not saying which one is better

azure pond
#

I know, just giving my opinion on the two

grand orbit
#

@lean briar try do links instead of pics please

fair moon
#

good deal tho

pulsar fable
#

If we're talking about the performance of cheap chips to put in that Intel barebones, would the $40 price jump for an 11600k be worth it over the 10400?

fair moon
#

probably

#

if you plan on playing anything cpu intensive

pulsar fable
#

Wait a second

#

Why does the 11600k have a $50 price cut with a motherboard but the 11400 and 10400 only have $20?

#

You know what, not worth questioning

fair moon
#

10400 is similar to r3600 in gaming iirc

#

and my 3600x was bottlenecking my 3060ti in some games

#

11600k probably better buy for 3060ti

high radish
#

12400f is perfection

pulsar fable
#

I mean, I would go 11th gen anyway on that barebones build anyway to take advantage of that pcie gen 4 m.2 lane that would otherwise be disabled in 10th gen

lean briar
#

Didnt have a link

grand orbit
#

In stores that have that stock I'd assume I'd assume it's micro center by the UI

gusty willow
#

yeah its microcenter

steel wren
#

then its probably the same deal as the one that bacca posted xD

steel sapphire
#

like at that point why did you buy an h510 elite lmao

#

theres a guy that sells them on etsy

#

to me it just seems like paying $200 for a $100 case but with extra steps

cinder kiln
#

yeah I've seen them lol

pulsar fable
azure pond
#

@steel wren

#

@fair moon

#

@lean briar

#

it is an a liquid cooled one though

#

alr oos nvm

strange anvil
#

Does anyone have recommendations for a good 1440p monitor <$300?

strange anvil
#

Funny thing is I've asked on 3 seperate servers, this is always the 1st response

#

...which should probably mean something to me

flat junco
#

Oof, another one?

I wonder why they're being listed so cheap ๐Ÿค”

azure pond
#

i wonder if theres anything wrong with them...

#

if there is, the warranty should cover it, right?

flat junco
#

Yeah it should, I'll find out next week lol.

I checked about an hour ago and didn't see anything

strange anvil
#

The g27q or?

flat junco
#

Mine hasn't been shipped yet, but it has a tracking number

azure pond
#

no

flat junco
#

3080

azure pond
#

there was a 3080 12gb on b stock for $415

#

it was a hybrid too

strange anvil
#

I only have a 580, but it serves me good enough

azure pond
#

i wouldnt run 2k on a 580

#

not if youre gaming

strange anvil
#

I'm gaming and I'd like to do 2k

#

Minecraft in 2k is very nice

azure pond
#

any gpu focused games will suffer

strange anvil
#

The most powerful game I'm playing is borderlands 3 and maybe NMS

#

...maybe maybe maybe warzone

azure pond
#

warzone will maybe get 55fps at low settings

strange anvil
#

I get 60 on medium

azure pond
strange anvil
#

Yes

#

Then that monitor went on the fritz

azure pond
#

ah

strange anvil
#

Thus why I'm asking for monitor recommendations

azure pond
#

thought you were upgrading monitor

strange anvil
#

I've been told the g27q is a good one

azure pond
#

g27q is pog

strange anvil
#

I'm upgrading from a broken monitor to a functioning one

loud sandal
#

WHAT THE HELL 3080 FOR $415

strange anvil
#

Where?

#

Also what?

azure pond
#

B stock

strange anvil

Huh

azure pond

evga B stock

#

its out of stock though

Card shipped, specs say the card weighs 4.66 pounds. The box weighs 7 pounds pepehmmm

#

Must be all the JB weld holding it together

wide onyx
#

Damn, 3090s are under $1k again

fleet marlin
#

TUF 12GB 3080 for $750 though. PogChamp

light holly
#

you don't control the fans by % of rpm

#

you have to control them by % of power supplied

#

and it's annoying as heck

fleet marlin
#

Isolated incident for the most part I'd say/hope, but I'll still aim for the strix. Especially if it also hits 750

light holly
#

I did some digging and it's a tuf thing.

#

it also doesn't like to use fan curves that aren't it's own

#

I've spent all day getting it figured out. I'm at my wits end

#

I was going to flash zotac vbios to it, but I'm scared to do it

#

I believe the pcbs have to be same layout or whatever for the vbios to work, and I can't find the layout of my cards pcb

steel wren
#

return it maybe? 50 bucks more and you can get an strix

light holly
#

I'll use it for a couple more weeks to see if anything happens before I decide.. I got it through Amazon so...

#

Actually, just going to chat with Amazon and see if they can send me a new one before I return this one.

light holly
#

Looks like the best they can do is refund me after I've sent it back and I'll have to order a different card.

light holly
#

@fleet marlin sadly, the only strix atm is open box for $750.

#

alright. Got a refund. Have to return this one by August 22nd. Please ping me when a strix 3080 12gb goes on sale please ๐Ÿ™‚

light bay
#

@light holly ok

#

๐Ÿ˜ณ

#

its time to spend $800

light holly
#

oh yeah?

light bay
#
#

b&h has it

light holly
#

bleh

light holly
light bay
#

oh for me it says in stock lol

light holly
#

yeah says in stock for me as well

light bay
#

oh that thing

#

rip

light holly
#

yeah lol

light bay
#

well that explains why its still in stock

light holly
#

I should probably see if I even have another pcie 8pin

fleet marlin
#

Pssh, bet you strix is back at amazon within 4 days. If you did happen to use prime card for the whole cost, there's $40 back also.

light holly
#

pfft. I have tons of pcie

#

I thought I only had 2 tbh, but I have 3 single 8pins and 3 daisy 8 pins lol

steel wren
#

According to newegg backorder system, new strixs will be on stock this sunday

3050ti should have been 6gb

#

Even on a 1080p laptop 4gb is gonna be a problem in lots of modern games going forward

grand orbit
#

Yeah definitely

torpid night
#

they always lowball the XX50

fair moon
#

my 1050 laptop has 4gb

#

2 generations old

#

3050ti is powerful enough that 4gb vram limits it in a lot of games

#

though i guess the normal 1050 only had 2gb

grand orbit
#

1660 laptop has 6gb iirc lol

prisma cosmos
#

You'd have more stable frames though

fair moon
#

1650 had 4 though

stoic crest
#

1050 mobile had 3 vram variants

#

2, 3 and 4 gigs

grand orbit
#

Chaos

fair moon
#

there was a 3gig one 0_o

#

So desktop had a 1050 2gb and 1050ti 4g
Laptops got 1050 2, 3, or 4gb or 1050ti 4gb

#

So many variants

#

Also in my laptop that has a 4g 1050 it's not listed as "mobile" or gtx1050M, dunno if that's a different chip or the naming just wasn't consistent

shut spoke
#

Not bad considering I could add a 5800x and it would still be way better than my current pc for around the same price

#

Pre-bent pipes helps a lot

fair moon
#

yeah microcenter has had some good "barebones" builds lately

shut spoke
#

The cpu deals have also been pretty good lately. Might be a bit cheaper to just go barebones and get a cpu from there

stoic crest
glacial horizon

Make 3060 8

loud sandal

but what about 3070\

hahaha

fair moon

Then theres no vram jump to 3070 but decent performance boost

#

Make 3060 7gb ๐Ÿ˜ˆ

light bay
#

Absolute menace

loud sandal

so its like 3060 has less vram then 3070 but 3070 is better

3080 (sometimes) has more vram then 3070 but same performace LOL

high radish

why you say its 813$ ? it shows 799.99 to me

grand orbit

13 shipping

high radish

oh and + 0.99$ shipping at cart

cinder kiln
#

Did you get a strix? @light holly

cinder kiln
#

I know I was wondering if you jumped on the strix yet lol

light holly
#

nope. I grabbed the sapphire

cinder kiln
#

Oh I see

#

Well it should be good. GN liked the cooler on it

light holly
#

aesthetics made me fall in love instantly.

cinder kiln
#

Mainly for the repair factor but still

light holly
#

performance looked good too in the GN vid.

cinder kiln
#

Ye

light holly
#

as well as on the techpower website

cinder kiln
#

Steve likes the fan access a lot tho

light holly
#

yeah that is a big plus

#

I also grabbed all new fans for my PC

cinder kiln
#

And I agree, you get a good mount on there and the fan fails, you don't wanna take it all apart

#

Which fans?

#

Oh wait I remember the pic earlier

light holly
cinder kiln
#

P12's

#

Ye

#

My b I'm at work lol

light holly
#

all good

#

I paid for 3 day shipping so.. hopefully it gets here on the day it says it will. (for gpu)

#

if it doesn't then I'm gonna be calling newegg to get a refund on the shipping cost.

#

supposed to be here tuesday. and the fans and extensions should be here wednesday

#

really wish I could get custom heatsinks made for my mobo though

cinder kiln
#

You can on ITX boards. I've seen them before. I've never looked personally

#

No idea how they fit up but they're pure copper

jolly inlet
#

They make monoblocks for some boards to liquid cool the VRM

light holly
#

I just want white so I don't have to buy a different mobo. I like my mobo

jolly inlet
#

Ah, you can always paint it

#

There's a few paints that won't change the thermal properties much

light holly
#

hm

#

I'll look into that.

#

otherwise, I'd prob grab the strix board.

#

If I did that though, I'd want to grab a white aio lol

cinder kiln
#

What board?

light holly
cinder kiln
#

You're using?

light holly
#

oh no. That's the one I want though

light holly
#

This is what I have.

#

I suppose maybe I could buy the strix and then sell this board

cinder kiln
#

Wouldn't call that worth it lol

#

Taking the tomahawk heatsinks off and painting them (with the right paint choice cos z690 vrms get hot) would give you a black and white compromise without sidegrading imo

light holly
light holly
cinder kiln
#

Tomahawk would oc better tho iirc

#

Actually depends, I've seen strix d4 do well, but also I've been told a lot that it's mid

#

Idk, to me it's a lot of white tax for Z690 D4

#

But I wouldn't consider the gigabyte ones rn either

#

Would only consider strix or paint in that sense lol

#

WAIT, steel legend

#

Inb4 assrock but it's also white mid-tier with no crazy white tax like strix

light holly
#

the strix has both S tier for longevity and VRM, whereas the tomahawk has S tier for longevity, but A tier for VRM

brittle lagoon
#

uh what

light holly
#

hm?

cinder kiln
#

Oh ok I was about to ask about the tiers lol

#

It's still twice the price of a steel legend

brittle lagoon
#

bruh what

brittle lagoon
#

smh

light holly
#

not strix

cinder kiln
#

The MSI will likely OC better though, they've had the edge on z690

light holly
#

The TUF board is a D tier board

#

because price to performance ratio

#

It's literally recomended to get the tomahawk over the TUF because they perform basically the same, but tomahawk much cheaper

light holly
#

but for the aesthetic, it would be worth to me.

brittle lagoon
#

I just really dislike that tier list

light holly
#

especially since I'd be selling my current board to make up some of the cost.

#

most* of the cost

brittle lagoon
#

I don't care for spending on aesthetics, that's your money, but I really don't like what they did to the tiers there

cinder kiln
#

If you're just going for aesthetics steel legend is literally nearly half price

cinder kiln
light holly
#

steel legend has a low end audio codec though

brittle lagoon
#

bruh

#

I suggest not using the tier list

#

and onboard audio basically sucks compared to anything

cinder kiln
#

You could buy a dac+amp with the difference on that codec

#

Lol

brittle lagoon
#

an apple dongle will outperform "high end" audio chips

light holly
#

I see.

#

ok, if I don't use that tier list.. then how does that steel legend compare to my tomahawk?

cinder kiln
#

Probably not quite as good but I mean it's an aesthetics discussion at this point lol

light holly
#

well yes/no

cinder kiln
#

Again, painting tomahawk is also an option

light holly
#

I'm not gonna sacrtifice performance for aesthetics..

cinder kiln
#

You kinda have to for white tax tho

light holly
#

I'd rather pay more to keep the performance AND have the aesthetics

#

I know my "reasoning" is wierd to yall, but I have no other thing that interests me other than making my PC look as good as I want it to look.

#

like.. that's the only thing that is making me happy in life atm

cinder kiln
#

Alright, well if you really want to, I'm not saying it's a bad board physically anyway

light holly
#

I mean, I spent 1200 on a gpu when I could have gotten something with close to same performance for cheaper, but aesthetics..

#

I won't be happy if I look at my pc and think it's ugly.

swift forge
#

tottally increases value

light holly
#

If I had known what I know now when I first started building this then I would have built it way differently from the get go

light holly
swift forge
#

what the heck is a wegg police lol

#

just saw it

light holly
swift forge
#

but it was fun overclocking it so ig it was worth it

light holly
#

I wish I had gotten the 12700k instead of the 12600k, but oh well. 13th gen is arounnd the corner

swift forge
#

wish i had gotten a 3900x or 10850k over my 10700k

#

and not a 180buck rog psu

#

thats white

#

so increased value

light holly
#

can't see my psu so

#

most my parts I got on "super sale" anyways so

swift forge
#

came with magnets and braided cables tho

#

kinda added value ig

brittle lagoon
#

Steel legend has a slightly worse vrm than the tomahawk

light holly
#

and ugly lol

swift forge
#

sometimes i wonder who buys biostar or asrock

#

they aint bad but so many other better options

grand orbit
#

Biostar, yes, asrock mmmm it depends

#

Sometimes significantly cheaper or e.g. went with b560 hdv for my bros 11400 build because it was 40โ‚ฌ cheaper than any other b560 out at the time, b560s had just start to release

stoic crest
#

how can someone downvote that 6800xt deal smh

#

it's gud

#

3080 perf

azure pond
stoic crest
#

they're probably mindlessly voting

or are an nvidia shill

azure pond
#

someone downvoted a $420 3080 12gb lmfao

stoic crest
#

ye

#

i don't know why someone would downvote a deal that good

cinder kiln
#

Finally 5800 ecks dee lmao is cheaper than the list price

azure pond
#

yeah, imo still not worth it unless alr have an am4 board though

cinder kiln
#

Ofc

#

Well, gunning for bleeding edge performance also makes it an option too

#

Better than a 12900ks

stoic crest
#

soon to be outdated :p

azure pond
#

meh, 12700f is $310. 5800x3d not attractive at 400 to me

stoic crest
#

^

#

but as we all know

#

everyone shills for amd

cinder kiln
#

In games the X3D should be a fair bit faster though on average

#

Again, bleeding edge

stoic crest
#

tru

fair moon
#

isn't x3d better for gaming though

cinder kiln
#

Yes

stoic crest
#

yep, best gaming cpu rn

#

Only worth when you already have mobo

azure pond
#

in gpu focused games it wont make a big diff

cinder kiln
#

Like if someone came to me and said "I wanna 3090 ti and I have no budget i don't care", I'd maybe think about an X3D for that list after trying to talk them down kekw

azure pond
#

12100f is fine with a 3080 at 1440p

stoic crest
#

12100f can handle 3080, if you make it run 1440p

#

or higher

azure pond
#

whos using a 3080 at 1080p anyways

azure pond
cinder kiln
fair moon
stoic crest
#

it's just worst case demonstration

#

someone with 3080 build should have at least 12400f

#

optimally

fair moon
azure pond
#

because it does not sound like it

#

a 3600/10400 is fine with a 3080 at 1440p

#

theyre both fine with a 3070 at 1080p

#

12100f beats a 10400 in single core

fair moon
cinder kiln
azure pond
cinder kiln
#

I'd still talk them out of overspending lol

steel wren
# fair moon I would agree with this for 4k, but not 1440p

games usually use 4 cores at most, any more cores will make almost no performance gain on game applications... thats why a 12100 is enough to run a 3080, and the 12400f is more than enough for gaming+streaming... more cores are just for workload/productive things

#

imagine a no budget limit... 3.5 grand pc should give you the very best for gaming

#

yummy

azure pond
#

aside from ridiculous amount of ssds

fair moon
steel wren
#

6000c30

imagine if somehow you win that pc on a raffle bacca, what should you do? sell it or enjoy the eff out of that?

Yes but also just think 12400f absolute minimum

steel wren
#

indeed, 12100 is a bit on the extreme...

severe jolt
#

I've been looking at 12th gen Intel vs Ryzen rn in terms of value to price
Damn Ryzen seems like better value even if it's slower cuz Z690 boards are priced for their weight in gold

light bay
#

z690 why tho, b660 and h670 exist and are typically much better value

severe jolt
#

Higher end boards have the features and power delivery

Usually

severe jolt

would you not buy from gigabyte because they had a psu that blew up in testing?

#

then asus had a z690 that could catch fire

#

ofc these things were fixed but every company can have bad products

steel wren
severe jolt
#

Honestly I'm kinda averse to 12th gen Intel as a whole

#

I dunno why

#

It just feels like a bad deal in the long term

#

That gut instinct thing

Can't logically explain it or anything
But I feel that way

fleet marlin

Enjoy your old school AM4 that still has pins on the cpu like a Pentium 4. Kekw - definition of emotion over logic

grand orbit
high radish

With current deals , amd looks more attractive lol

#

Like 5800x for 260$ and 5900x for 330$

fair moon
#

less of an upgrade path at this point though, right?

high radish
#

Yeah I hate am4 socket system

#

it sux

#

I'm glad they finally going to use LGA locking mechanism

#

Another thing I hate is that small cooler on chipset at x570 mobos pepesus

#

it looks like early 2000s pepesus

grand orbit

12600kf would still be better bet tbh

I just realized 12600kf almost catching 5800x Concerned_Pepe

I bought 12600k for 230$ so I still got better deal perfection

intel did good job with 12th gen . lets see what amd 7000series will do

It's legal partly because it was a 2x4 (before processing). To me it's sort of like how I feel when I cook a 1/4 hamburger that ends up weighing much less for obvious reasons.

yeah but the fact its just gotten smaller over the years and they can just say its due to planing kinda meh

Gotcha.

#

Man, I used to have AVG on my pc 15 years ago lol. It was standard that we installed on all PCs that came into the shop

fair moon

avg is only marginally better less terrible

#

all an average user needs is Windows defender

#

maybe free malwarebytes manual scans every once in a while

#

for VPN I would recommend ProtonVPN

can't speak for the paid plan but I use the free one occasionally and it's good

private internet access was good last i checked anyway

I use mullvad, the nice thing is that you sign in with a 16 digit code instead of a username and password. So it's not linked to any email. And it's about $5 a month.

Yeah, I was mainly wanting it for the VPN and internet safety thingy that malwarebytes provides in their free trial for like 10 days or so.

I can just disable the antivirus and use the other features right?
