semi-serious question: how much of a fire hazard is a bare laptop motherboard bolted to an MDF board?
it's got a CPU cooler decently "mounted" and a very small heatsink for the SATA controller chip as it gets really hot without it

Ok, have you gone into the control pannel. This is usually found by typing "192.168.1.1" into your browser and logging in with the info on the side of the router.

Perfect, most likley you just didn't ever set the router up. Once you login for the 1st time most routers should ask you to set it up. If it doesn't watch a video on how to setup your specific router.

Sorry I realize I gave you incomplete info. So on my pc the genie app will run a speed test, and but it won't open webpages. On my phone it will let me sign in but then it tries to open a second sign in page and it says "webpage not available empty response" and it was trying to go to some google page

Hello! I was wondering if anyone knows of a USB 3.1 male to USB-C female adapter/converter that I can use for a docking station (including video output). The docking station is a HP USB-C dock G5. My laptop is an Asus UX331U, which has a USB-C port but that's not rated for video output (go figure!), but it does have two USB 3.1 outputs. So I need to connect the USB 3.1 output to this docking station that only accepts USB-C.

Yeah, not without software looking for the video stream, which also requires the device to send the stream on its own.
It's possible in some cases but doesn't sound like it in yours.

Yeah the driver tricks the computer into treating it like a video output so it will stream over the usb connection, but you still need something capable of reading that stream on the other end.
VGA is a lot easier to convert the signal than using a USB C on a port not designed for it.

is the issue you want a separate switch in your room to hard plug things into?

a lot of mesh routers have switches on their satellites, so you could maybe plug the router into the modem, and then put the satellite in your room and hard plug into that. Assuming range and stuff work out.

It adds the benefit of extra wifi coverage too 🙂

What they mean by "certified" is that only these listed GPUs are guaranteed to work with each version of their program. Other GPUs may still work, but it's not recommended because you won't get any support for it.

You can look up if a certain GPU will work (likely with modifications such as using specific drivers).

Older version of Quadro or Radeon Pro GPUs will still work on the older version of the program that they were certified for, and probably still work on the new version but won't work as well or as fast.

i want to hook up an MP3 player to my home audio receiver with a 3.5mm to RCA cable. I want to be able to copy MP3 files from my desktop to the MP3 player. The use of micro SD cards for storage is preferred

I have tried two MP3 players to date. They have worked adequately except for the output volume. The volume is great for headphones or earbuds, however when connected to my home stereo system, the volume coming thru my stereo speakers is barely adequate, even with the device volume and my receiver volume turned up to maximum.

I suspect there is some limiting factor in the MP3 device that prevents the volume from going too high, presumably to protect anyone who is wearing headphones or earbuds

Is there a devicevthat does not have this limitation?

Hi all. I have a harmon kardon AVR 525 audio/video receiver - it's at least 20 years old, works fine, but does not have any HDMI ports. My cable box (Tivo mini) has only HDMI. I need to be able to connect the Tivo mini to video-in ports on the receiver. It can take component (best option) or composite, or maybe S-video. There are zillions of cables and converters to address this problem, so many that I am not confident I can pick the best one for my situation. Can anyone advise please? Thanks.

Does your TV have audio out? Might be easier to HDMI from Tivo to the TV, then TV audio out to the receiver via SPDIF or RCA.

Does resetting ones router actually have a chance at changing a dynamic external IP address? Looking to get mine reset easily and am confused as I thought it would be only the modem - not the router. However there is a large amount of conflicting info as people seem to use the word interchangeably or smth.

Hey guys, I have a corsair harpoon mouse that does this static noise every time I move it. The noise seems to come out from the PC, at the USB connection level but once I swap the mouse, there is no noise. Do you think it is a cable or circuit issue?

Yep, it is 100% the mouse. Tried different ports, 2 laptops and a desktop machines but the sound keeps coming out from whatever the port you plug the mouse in.

On apple best bet is using bootcamp for process, bootable usbs dont always work nice

Cat litterally Broke the wires multiple times. With one splice in the wires it was working fine but the damc at did it again so now theres 2 sets of splices

Nothing for it but to replace the antenna then, or try to install dd-wrt like vintage suggested.
Yeah it's a pain but if you don't want to spend money, you're limited in options.

Read the steps it gives twice, go through it in your head, then go for it. It sounds like that's just an old router left lying around anyway so what's the harm?
We're here if you need help. Personally I've installed it on 3 separate devices.

Counters arent a issue. Hes also learned to hate my BB gun. I unloaded all the BBs from it and Just use the CO2 cartridge to blast air and make noise. I only have to point it at him and he runs now. lol\
