No error now
It's this
Just unplugged it a bunch of time, same USB port
Okk
"Reading"
I ain't reading all that
Cmon
Ok, now I have as rock bios in .20 file extension...?
Is it OK if I just change to .bin/.rom?
No clue
Because uefiTool doesn't support .20 format
I don't have one of these man
Oke
Otherwise I'd be all over this much faster lol
If I had to guess
I think .bin and .rom are interchangeable
I vaguely recall this from somewhere
Maybe vbios'?
Worth a try anyway, changing the extension doesn't ruin the data
Apparently, you can choose between bin and rom as output file
I'm just trying stuff now. It's programming the chip but im not sure if it will work
Just for fun, can you try changing the .bin to .rom to see if it does the same thing lmao
I don't know where I remember it from, but that would be funny if it worked
i2c iirc
I linked the data sheet above if you can double check
It's a pain reading it off phone
Just tried everything with this chip, I'm not sure what I'm getting wrong but it keeps giving me errors and the few times that it works it still doesnt allow the motherboard to work
Hoping someone can help me pick a new modem/router combo. I have Xfinity internet with the 1000gig + plan. I'm looking to extend my range and upgrade to the newest technology to speed up my wifi. I'm currently using a Motorola MG8702 | DOCSIS 3.1 Cable Modem + Wi-Fi Router. It's just not quite meeting my needs.
Is the battery from an Acer aspire one d257 compatible with d270 model?
The model seems to be AL10A31 for both, however when looking for "d257 battery" they only show a range of compatible laptops, often not including d270
does anyone has a s23 or a google pixel 8 im between getting one or the other and not too sure which to get tbh
the reviews dont really help on either
1000gig + plan
man what
Both are good options, so consider what other peripherals you'd be getting. Samsung buds work best on Samsung devices, for example.
alr thanks
If you end up getting a pixel 8, I highly recommend this case https://www.amazon.ca/gp/aw/d/B0BZ67N1B9
My phone fell out of my pocket while I was running and landed on a corner (top left) and it protected my phone without cracking the screen or back glass
Redesigned for better grip, extra protection to prevent any damage and keep your phone alive anytime from drop and strike. Tough Armor XP is firmly structured with extra foam to give extra protection to your phone. High-quality engineered construction contains a shock-absorbent bumper with a kick...
The drop was strong enough to scuff the frame
But no glass was broken
Even after the phone literally bounced on concrete
Damn alr I'll have a look for Samsung ones too I'm leaning to them rn I think I might just go with samsung
Bit better with the telephone zoom
I don't have any experience with a s23, but my mom's s22 fe doesn't do macro shots as good as the pixel 8
Though honestly both are good cameras
I do have to note that these modern phones are much more durable than you'd think, I've had my pixel 7 without a case for more than a year, many drops on concrete, and the only real damage is a small chip on the back, with no damage to the screen
true
i would almost guarentee that the phone would have sustained more than just a scratch from the drop that i had though
possibly the worst phone drop i've ever done because it was with enough velocity to cause the phone to bounce on concrete twice before landing face down
my heart almost stopped because i only had the phone for like 2 months at that point
would've been devastating 💀
well, i dont have any important data on it
and everything was backed up
but 2 months is a bit early lmao
Spigen always makes great cases
worth goin with them for screen protector too or are there better options
Screen protectors I'm not too sure about tbh, I guess a glass one would be fine
definitely some glass one, and not a plastic one
i hate swiping on the plastic screen protectors
even the slightly more smooth PET plastic is still not as good as glass
main downside though is that glass is thicker than both pet and tpu screen protectors
but the scrolling experience (which is pretty much all you do on a phone) is so much better with glass
which is also why i much prefer glass touchpads on laptops
yh main thing for me is just if it drops my actual screen is ok
fingerprint reader on the phone itself is less working apparently with it on but i have that and face id anyway
ive seen JETech which look alright
and New'c
and
these are what im between i htink
I don't remember what brand screen protector I have, but my fingerprint scanner works fine
Should I buy One Plus Ace 3v or wait 1 week and spend a little more for GT6?
I need a stable phone for heavy use of apps, not games I'm not even playing pubg just basic games for wasting some time, and a good stable camera so is it worth it? I'm not a big fan of edges on the screen but it's not bad for me too
or the last thing would the GT Neo 6 be better with the same price of One plus Ace 3v?
its not a big deal actually the one plus is very good too
yeah there's not many big differences in terms of specs
idk how they are in practice though
thanks btw for ur help
what the hell is going on with this dude's comment!?
Realme and OP?
Their software is the same
Okay so
The GT6 has a better cpu and supposedly brighter display
I think going for that is the best choice if you value performance the most
SD 8s Gen 3 is still a good bit faster than 7+ Gen 3
@sly gorge
Sorry I forgot to ping
Neo 6 seems to be similar as well, but inferior camera
but the more money on gt 6 worth it ?
I'd say yes
in my country its 105 dollar more for gt 6
Hmm
What's the neo 6's price in dollars?
So the difference I'm seeing with the gt neo 6 is compared to gt 6
The absence of telephoto lens
That'll help with zooming into objects far away
Otherwise they are both equipped with one 8mp ultrawide and one 50mp main shooter
Neo 6 does come with more ram in the base spec, interestingly
So you're choosing between more ram on the gt neo 6 and less ram but better display and camera on the gt 6
See if that $105 difference is worth it to you
and the main camera sensor on gt 6 is better the sensor in neo 6 but with more money

iFixit FixHub Tools Preorder: https://ifix.gd/FixHub-Fix
I Bought a PALLET of BROKEN Power Tools - Let's Fix Them! I paid $900 for a pallet of broken DeWalt, Milwaukee, Ryobi, Ridgid, Craftsman, and Porter Cable power tools to see if I could fix them. These are customer returns so the actual condition is unknown but I'll be checking them all o...
I'm currently trying to reprogram the msi z370 motherboard bios. They say the red wire on the clamp of the ch341a programmer should match with the dot on the chip. That is pin 1. On the programmer side I connected pin 1 to the top right corner of the 25XX slot. Is that right? Because NeoProgrammer says IC not responding
Ic not responding > when trying to detect ic
Should be MX-25L12873F
Clear photo
I have checked multiple sources online that show the connection is right. So that shouldn't be a problem unless the red wire doesn't match with pin1 in the pcb end
Did you say you connected to the blue circle? The green circle is where pin 1 is
No, red wire, the one meant for pin1 of the bios chip is currently connected to the one marked with the dot aka pin1
Hmm
I'm not sure in that case, I've never used a clamp programmer before
I heard they're kinda finicky though
It could be bad contact potentially?
The board is quite dusty after all
I'll clean the pins on both chip and clam, hopefully I get it working. I'm also reinstalling drivers because I know they often don't work unless you try a thousand different ones
I give up.
It was able to read the programmer at first, but not the ic. Unplugged and plugged back in now it won't read the programmer anymore, doesn't matter what software out of the three I try, doesn't matter how many times I reinstall and change drivers. Perhaps it's the MS Surface not delivering enough power now? Somehow it only worked once
Weird
I'd want to get a printer for home which can scan, copy and print in color. I'd also want to have WIFI/Bluetooth/USB. it should be able to print in double side. I expect the printer to print 30-40 pages per minute. Budget is 200$
You may need to raise the budget a bit for a colour printer that can do 30-40 pages per minute
Closest I've found to your requirements is this: Brother MFC-J4335DW
- wifi direct printing
- apple air print
- mopria print service
- no Bluetooth though
- prints in colour
- duplex printing, though not scanning
- built in OCR
- black and white prints are 17 ppm
- colour prints 15 ppm
- Inkjet
- MSRP $180 usd but currently on sale for $160 usd
If you have a budget of $550:
Brother MFC-L8905CDW
- wired ethernet, wifi, wifi direct, no Bluetooth still, airprint, mopria print service, NFC print
- colour print can print at 32 ppm, same with b&w
- laser printer
- built in OCR in the scanner
- duplex scanning, single pass, adf 70 page capacity
- duplex printing
Main difference is this just prints faster and is a laser printer rather than inkjet
Brutha
Wait wtf nfc print
Like I tap the phone in my butt pocket onto a printer and it prints?
Pros and cons of inkjet vs laser printers (generalized)
Pros of inkjets:
- usually more colour accurate
- best photo print quality
- cheaper upfront cost
- can be much more compact
Cons of inkjets: - requires maintenance/regular use or else the cartridge may clog
- ink can get expensive, especially on the cheaper printers with smaller cartridges
- usually not very fast
Pros of laser printers: - fast printing
- usually cheaper to print if you do alot of printing
- if you don't print often, the toner won't dry out (it's really just very fine pigment powder)
Cons: - high upfront cost
- usually bad colour accuracy
Technically still wifi direct printing, but you use NFC to connect to the printer faster
Prolly goto used market for that budget
This mf thinks it's that easy to trigger
Bruh printers are demons I reckon they trigger even if you don't do anything
Printers are annoying for no reason. Heavily capitalized on just for some a device that's atrociously annoying to use, paper, and over engineered printer cartridges
Real
Bring back dot Matrix
Or hell, line matrix printers that print whole lines at once frfr
TBF
Dot Matrix printers are not that great to being back mainly because of the printing speed
It does like, 2 pages per minute lmao
Line matrix printers though, should be able to do like 20
Honestly, over engineered ink cartridges are kinda nice
Specifically for photo printing
Alot of printers arent actually that colour accurate
Important for photos
Though for regular text printing, those cartridges are overpriced
just bring back morse code ffs
I use the ones with refillable tanks
Saved me so much money
My last printer ran 2+ years on the ink it came with
Granted I don't print that much
But still
I think that's Epson that does that, right? And then everybody just capitalizes on "haha y'all don't even know about Epson even though they've been around for years. Come buy our $100 printer cartridges that'll last for only two weeks with moderate amounts of printing, stinky"
Tbh i don’t remember the last time I refilled toner
did you not have issues with clogging?
several companies have "eco tanks" or whatever branding
like epson as you mentioned, canon also has the megatank or whatever, hp has their smart tank, brother used to have a tank printer but i dont see it anymore
One of the offices I used to work in just refilled the same cartridges with a syringe and bypassed the printers cartridge check lol
lmao
ususally office printers use laser printers though
like, most of the printers at my college are all laser, except for the ones in the print shop for printing photos and such in higher quality
We basically had one of each. One laser, 2 inkjets and 1 plotter
At home I have one hp laser, one brother ink, and a xerox that i have no clue what it is
After dealing with so many printers I have to say wow it sucks dealing with printers
lmao
it's probably a laser
i dont think xerox makes any printer reasonable for home use that prints with ink
That one we picked up from some closing office so it’s not really made for home. That one has had the least amount of issues but I should hope so given the retail price tag
i meant printers that they make that arent freestanding
because iirc all the inkjet printers xerox makes are all freestanding on the floor much larger than anyone would reasonably have in their house lol
Lol
Not in those 2 years
I had a brother one
The accessibility also doesn't help
$60 HP printer vs $200+ refillable tank printer
Some people still don't realise that the $200 printer is actually cheaper
These people don’t realize that the poor man pays twice
Real
@chrome dust gaming laptop with a budget of $1300 with a “sleek” design. Got any ideas? He wants to be able to game on it, but also bring it to Uni.
ehh
zeph line isnt exactly the value line, it's the build quality line lmao
their tuf line has better price to perf normally
what laptop do you guys recommend getting for college, i start in a couple of months and i’m thinking on waiting for black friday to get one. But i’m not sure what to get, Do any of you have recommendations?
What's your budget and what will you use it for?
can i just say, avoid the p14s
for college, mine has terrible battery and screen looks really faded
You should be more specific, as in the thinkpad p14s
Don't buy a thinkpad anymore btw they've just become awful value and a bad laptop overall
fr
All laptops are bad
Yeah let me just lug my huge case with glass panels around instead
maybe we should go back to steel side panels
Yes
I have always said this
Slap a fan with a filter on the side panel and you've got an ice cold GPU
Acrylic has its flaws but at least you could cut holes in it for airflow
Nah i need to see my terrible cable management on a daily basis
ong
With that logic I assume phones are bad too yes?
nah phones are different
How
laptops don't last more than two years
Mine lasted me 6
phones at least last for around 3-5
Which Dell?
How dare i
it says on the bottom
Its not that easy when i rip stuff off lmao
Inspiron 3583
I had the manual downloaded in my files when i chucked a stick of ram and a new ssd in years ago
I still use a compaq CQ62-228DX. The only original parts are the motherboard, screen, shell, and keyboard. Even the CPU has been upgraded, because yes it's old enough that the CPU is socketed.
It's like... 14 years old?
I use it for roll20.net mostly on game night
Oh and I got a couple gold 🏆 on hwbot with it because apparently the gpu was able to overclock like +33%
Maybe I should've clarified that laptops from the past three years suck lol
My Dell Latitude 3520 is insanely slow on battery. Like overly slow
Can't even load Firefox
My 2020 macbook is still living. Not really any changes in battery and performance but I would like more power at this point
MacBooks are the only good laptops tbh
"But they're expensive" yeah so is your $1500 gaming laptop that's gonna start falling apart within a year or two of usage
What if I bought a mini PC, a portable keyboard, a mouse, a monitor and a battery to power it instead
Yes
Dew it
They actually do kind of exist. Some places make custom computers built out of cases so to be easily deployed in remote locations
Honestly probably a better experience. I've seen people do it lol
Just find a good spot to set it all
it just sounds super inconvenient??
but, a 3d printed custom case for that...
It'd be around the same cost as a laptop I assume
Sometimes they are more expensive actually. Also battery wouldn’t be great
excellent suggestions - missed your message. thanks friend
i want to get a durable wired ear phone just to attend office meetings. so need one which doesnt cause any damage to ears and which we can use close to 6-8 hours a day. any suggestions?
no problem
for headphones/headsets, do you need a built in mic on it? also would you want it to be wired or wireless? and do you know if you would prefer over ear, on ear, or in ear headphones/headsets? plus what is the budget?
i prefer in ear headphone with mic. budget 50$
wireless option: maybe the skullcandy dime 3 tws ($30)
though wireless headsets tend to have the audio quality recieved be quite low quality (due to bluetooth); pretty neutral frequency response
wired option (will also be significantly better audio quality): 7Hz x Crinacle Salnotes Zero:2 ($25) w/ https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005006172398970.html ($15, might be able to find an alternative for cheaper or better quality for more, there are a decent amount of options from what i've seen, and this was one i found recommended on a forum; if you want to look for alternatives, the IEM uses the 2 pin with .78mm spacing, which is a common connector type)
only "downside" is that it's wired, which some people might not like, but you didnt specify if you wanted it to be wired or wireless; warm neutral (light bass bump) frequency response
@prime marlin i would need bluetooth + scannning as well
I am thinking to get this one, Brother DCP-T820DW
anything better than this with more features
Yeah, @prime marlin, he needs Bluetooth and scanning
this one doesnt have bluetooth either
both of the printers i recommended do support scanning; the cheaper option i sent only supports single sided scanning and not duplex scanning
@west fable what is support scanning?
you dont have to try to @ me since you keep mentioning the wrong people lmao
i mean that the scanner on the printer i recommended is able to scan on one side of a page at a time, and not both sides of the page at the same time
that was the drawback of the cheaper option
the $550us option had duplex printing which can scan both sides of the page at the same time
can you pls suggest a brother inktank printer which would
- print atleast 30 page per min
- wifi
- bluetooth
- usb
- duplex printing
- support scanning
- copy
- durable
- ink should dry or refill should not be a big deal in terms of effort and cost
@west fable
MFC-L2820DW
this is the only printer i found from brother that supports bluetooth
it can do 34 pages per minute (advertised)
wifi, bluetooth, and usb
can do duplex printing (but not copy, copy can only be single sided due to scanner not supporting duplex scanning)
supports single sided scanning with document feeder
probably is durable
black and white only
laser printer (standard cartridge can do over 1000 pages [$53usd/cartridge], high yield can do 3000 [$77usd/cartridge])
what would be the difference between Brother DCP-T820DW Printer vs Brother MFC-T920DW
@west fable MFC-L2820DW is just black and white
I'd want color
you didn't put colour printing on the list of requirements that time so i assumed you didn't need/want it anymore
neither the Brother DCP-T820DW or Brother MFC-T920DW have bluetooth printing
looks like the difference is that the MFC would have a few more features, e.g. fax
Ooh fun
I wonder how they'll objectively compare some of those things, and which features they'll give the most weight in their "scores"
for vpns, i looked at the forums and it looks like one of the main things they're rating them on are speed and privacy (how much information is needed to be given to use the service)
mullvad vpn would have a perfect 10 for that since you can use crypto to pay and you dont need an email or anything to sign up
mattress reviews they havent said too much about the criteria, but it looks like edge support is one of them
and that they're using some industry standard tests and some in house tests
Bedding 💀
I've been searching for a handheld gaming device to use while traveling, but I’m having trouble deciding. I've considered the Steam Deck OLED and the ROG Ally. Each one has appealing features: the Steam Deck OLED has a better display but lower resolution and is cheaper but less powerful, while the ROG Ally has higher resolution, is faster, but also more expensive. If there are other options or important differences I should consider, I’d appreciate any advice.
the steam deck performs better at lower wattages
On the go, implies you won't be cranking your settings and power all the way
oh ok
At least that's what I remember from GN's video
fact check me if you feel the need to
Ally only beats it in higher power wattages
Imo steam deck is still my choice cause of the screen, the improvements in the buttons and stuff
And since it does better at lower wattages which is how I would run one
Plus you can also just like, hook it up to a portable charger
Because I know the Ally has 1080 and the SD has a 1280x800 screen or would I not notice it really
You wouldn't notice it at a 7" screen size
the ppi is super high
At a reasonable arms distance you shouldn't really see a difference
ya the OLED screen is nice thats why I am go for that more
There are probably plenty of reviews that go over that tho
Maybe if you do go for the steam deck, you can check the steam deck compatibility with your steam library
Is there any real difference between the 256 512 and 1TB versions I think the 512 would be good since it is much cheaper then 1TB 512 has a bigger battery then the 256 has Wifi 6E, higher Hz, longer cable, and slightly bigger screen
The Steam Deck runs Linux and the Ally runs Windows. Compatibility has been improving a LOT with the Proton compatibility layer, but it still isn't as good as native Windows. Of course, with Windows you have Windows issues too like battery draining in sleep mode.
Most of my games I play are full compatible - a few
that's good then
Just depends on if those few are ones you will play a lot
Again, personally I'd just be playing like, small games
I know BeamNG works on it considering it has a Steam Deck Graphics setting and that is the only game I would play a lot in the un verified section
COTL, maybe ROR2, Hades etc
Bear in mind SOME devs are straight up blocking Linux via anti cheat now
But you can use the steam deck as a super huge controller
I don't play many games that use it is only one is War Thunder that has Anti cheat all the other ones are single player I was wonder because since the ROG is windows could I play games from Epic steam and other on it or no?
yeah you can install epic on steam deck as well
it's a little more steps than on a windows device tho
Oh thats nice
There's plenty of guides though
https://www.polygon.com/guides/23548311/epic-games-launcher-steam-deck-install-protonup
I was thinking I would have to use Windows on the SD to do so
but it still will run into the anti cheat restrictions games impose on linux
I don't have any games that would have that issue so I am not worried about that
oh that's cool
I probly would end up putting a 1tb 2280 in it
didn't know that actually
It does a 90 degree turn and just fits
I have not looked into it but is there a new SD coming or is that not for a while
?
That was fixed a while ago
With the new revision of the board
The problem was it was too close to the charging circuit and the charger wasn't cooled well enough, resulting in the SD card slot getting too hot and dying
thanks asus
This sucked
Yeah looks like it
Close
I think its a custom built eboard
Like an electric longboard
The lock for the battery casing, the trucks at the bottom right, the cables snaking around it
So then that might be the BMS/power delivery system
reason why it looks like a ebike is because top of image looks like a bike tire, and you also see a bike seat on the floor , under all the wires and stuff
though considering how it's wired and such, it's probably a modded bike to become an ebike, rather than the frame originally being made for an ebike?
yeah that would make sense
I got this avigilon security camera. not sure if it works and I've been trying to get it connected but no success.
I read it requires 48v poe 9w, so I just got a poe injector 48v1a but nothing really happens other than a slight click as I give power to the camera
no new devices show up when connected to a router w dhcp
it seems like the 6 colored wires have been cut off but they're not shorting out. I have no idea what they are for and if they're needed
couldn't find any online documentation on how to set it up
Does it possibly require some proprietary nvr? I think some cameras are locked down to not be used with other systems
shouldn't it at least be visible between other devices on the network?
i wonder if it's configured to be a static ip or smth
so you might need to figure out how to factory reset it
well, the problem is that there's apparently no IP assigned to the camera by DHCP
Yeah its possible it was set to static the last time it was used as you said
i wonder how you factory reset it though lol
This is usually to keep people from ripping off outdoor cameras and black marketing them
Oh that’s fun
i just opened the cover where sd card slot and micro usb are. it has led indicators and a small button that hopefully helps me with setting up the camera
Maybe it's a 10 second hold to factory reset thing
i tried it but still nothing. it does stop blinking after 10s however the camera might be faulty as it does not work with an sd card (tried FAT32) and isnt detected in windows using the usb port.
no big deal as its just not that good compared to many cheap more recent alternatives
https://www.rtings.com/humidifier released today
hey guys
i got the Brother DCP-T820DW - if i give scan it doesnt send me a pdf file to my mobile or laptop
any idea how to get this working
also taking the printout in gsm doesnt give me a poster quality
i personally hobby on cars
Use the Windows scan app instead of the scan button on the printer. You can change the scan options from there too.
I moved here bc I look rn
@west fable Does that look good? https://amzn.eu/d/aS9kZJI
Because I need a 18V power supply
or a little less
Not a power guy, I legit have no clue 😭
it'll work as long as your device is center positive
so make sure that is the case before or else you might fry your device
I planned to at first use it for Decoration rn...
hang on
oh, if you're not using the barrel jack and using the termination block, then it's fine
That’s what I’m planning to use it on initially
That one is gonna come in Clutch:
Worth getting?
for like 16.52€
should be fine
Neat
Then I own something they can't just take from me
I need to think for a sec before I buy
I look for other alternatives
That sounds interresting
just for like 1€ more I can adjust that however I like
I'm loving that option
Does that sound good @west fable ?
would be better but i wonder if it has any protections against accidental voltage adjustment
True... That is a thing that could happen, but the placement makes me less concerned about that
I place the PSU in a way that it should be actually hidden
Like I Would hide it until the Decoration is getting removed, then I take it back to my room
I would say that this sounds good, right?
That is why I would get that one instead
What is your opinion on that before I go to Amazon and get that @west fable? (sorry for the ping, but idk if you saw that...)
that is the last ping I'm sending out for now after that
probably fine
I purchased it after saying “no opinion Ig”
Like idk why, but just because I spent only 50€ to put on Amazon, My mom is already disappointed for nothing.
since I had a lot of difficulties getting the ch341 programmer to work even after countless hours of trying every possible solution, I'd like to know what the best alternatives are to this device
If possible something below 10€, from aliexpress would be better so I can add it to my current order
I'll be using it to reprogram bios chips on motherboards, I already have different clamps and connectors from the ch341 kit
What step was the problem at?
drivers I guess
or just faulty ch341
how important is this to do
I just spent all goddamn day setting it up before seeing this
It would need to be unlocked only if you're going to be using it on a different phone carrier than the original
I think this is talking about a different thing than network unlocked
I am in the same situation as this guy
So you bought a used phone and it says "the bootloader is unlocked" when it starts up?
yeah
That can potentially be bad
I would recommend flashing a stock ROM and re-locking the bootloader
so I should reset it? 😦
one guy says " I would also reflash vbmeta just to be absolutely sure that verified boot is enabled." which idk how to do
Ideally yes, because the seller could have done literally anything with an unlocked bootloader including putting spyware that steals all your info
Yes, you would want to flash a stock rom since the "factory reset" only modifies the user partition, and any system partition changes would still be there
I have no idea how to do that, so I might just need to send it back :/
What model phone is it? If it's a pixel or something then it's pretty easy
It's a pixel 8 pro, yeah
Do you have Chrome installed on your computer?
Open this with Chrome, it will not work in other browsers
https://flash.android.com/build/10714844?target=husky-user&signed
Steps https://source.android.com/docs/setup/test/flash
No
This would be a full flash of all partitions except the read only ones that hold the phone ID
Oh wait, that was the Verizon phone link, I forgot to ask which your phone was
I am on Verizon
Perfect then
This would be a newer build version https://flash.android.com/build/12234293?target=husky-user&signed
I forgot the list sorts old to new instead of new to old
thanks
I assume I should "wipe device" and "lock bootloader"?
not sure which of these I should use
Wipe, Lock, Force
Thanks!
https://www.newegg.com/p/3D5-0049-00027
the pc is now $100 more than when I got it
Sweet
Yeah don't let people diss you on that PC. It's an okay PC for what you can afford
And then just keep digging for GPUs under $100 lol. I bet there's an RX 5700(X) out there somewhere
Im going to diss you for that pc
I think something may have gone wrong, it's telling me I only have 391 GB free space on the phone when I try to set it up now, but it's a 512 model
I am pretty sure I recall there was more space available when I was setting it up the first time. Is it possible there's some partition issue?
there def should not be 100 GB missing
OK now it's saying I have 480 GB free so idk what's happening
regardless, thanks for the help
black magic
It's normal for the user space to not match the stated capacity, on any storage volume. It boils down to a misunderstanding that the drive companies created.
The original understanding is that a gigabyte is 1024 megabytes. Drive companies decided, no it's not, it's 1000, so they can put a bigger number on the label. And thus, the gibibyte was born.
it is a bit strange if it reports as 391gb free, but i guess it was probably because the os read a bunch of files as not deleted? or maybe there was just somehow like 80gb of temporary files
💀
That'll probably just be from the partitioning
The OS, swap space, and other system partitions take up quite a bit
And it reserves a lot too for updates
perhaps
Not sure where to ask this but does anyone have a good recommendation for home security cameras?
I'm wanting to set up nas for my house and connect the security cameras to that
depends on the budget and how deep you want to go (e.g. just wifi ip cameras, or hardwired in wall analog camera nvr system)
Something that isn't cloud connected and doesn't require a subscription
Which is getting harder to find
i think the main reason why cloud connected is common at least for household security, is because it's way more convenient than having to find a place to store your nvr that is still ventilated
is that a good thing? i dont think so
Cloud connected is common because the companies can charge for it
data breaches happen often, and you dont know how good the security practices of the many hundreds of cloud nvr companies have
true, that as well
Even if they don't charge, they will eventually. It's happened multiple times now.
storage isnt free indeed
I was trying to avoid this
Because we currently own a Ring doorbell and its practically useless; gives false alarm notifications for motion alerts despite setting video boundaries and you cant see past recordings without paying a monthly sub
probably just a simple IP camera, I don't think we need hardwired stuff
hmm
it's a bit harder to find a cheap wifi ip camera that isnt cloud based for just one camera
hmm
honestly
since you said ring doorbell camera, i assume the camera would be placed outside
so you'll need to find a way to run power to it as well, so it might actually be easier to get a poe ip camera
and set up a pi or other sbc with frigate
or if you have a server, a container or vm with frigate
and if you also have homeassistant, you can also link frigate notifications with that
note that for many of these cheaper chinese made ip camera would be best to be put on an isolated VLAN not connected to the internet, and only connected to the frigate vm/container
i believe it was hikvision cameras that "called home"
it was one of the brands that were semi commonly used with frigate
dahua is the brand that frigate recommends now, hikvision is removed from the documentation
Probably because the company is sanctioned by the US for aiding human rights violations in China
💀
Good old China, spying on you any way they can, especially if they can get you to pay for their listening device
Can't brick it if the OS storage is standard M.2, brilliant
Damn they managed to get it under the price point they initially set
It's hard enough to find a decent router at $89, let alone one with easily serviced parts
$94 and free fast shipping https://www.aliexpress.us/item/3256807640431354.html
The $89 didn't include shipping so this is a better deal
Wow
Although a little sceptical over the lifetime stuff
Needs to imply they keep it updated for a lifetime
And that the hardware itself isn't breached on a kernel level
But suppose the model endorses standard upgrade hardware it'd be a strong offer
OpenWRT runs off the Linux kernel, and has been around for 20 years
It would be pretty easy to swap things on the dev board
Oh dang is it POE too?
1GB of RAM, should be good to run a pihole on that
They have the full schematics for download too
honestly for the price, even if it only works for like 5-10 years or whatever, the price is still honestly worth it
True
Just don't like the idea of perpetual life if it's not every way modular
oh right this is by openwrt so there's even wifi built in
The marketing irks me a bit lmao
so it has poe, wifi, and routing, in an open source? pcb design for just $90
I'm not sure if it's the marketing or just Tom's saying "lifetime"
this is basically all the marketing openwrt did
seems like the tomshardware article is just another classic case of journalism embellishing some stuff
lol
Thoughts on Synology (DS223j 2-bay) with Reolink outdoor cameras? I've never heard of Frigate but I have friends who run Synology products in their houses and really like it
I'm trying to get my family in on this and they are not the most tech savvy people
if you have friends with that specific setup and it works for them, you should ask them about it
well, a similar setup with similar hardware and software
looks like it should work though https://support.reolink.com/hc/en-us/articles/360004124293-How-to-Add-Reolink-Cameras-to-Synology-Surveillance-Station/
i remember reading in the past that frigate doesnt really work too well with reolink cameras, but i dont see that text anymore so maybe compatibility has been fixed on that end as well?
also frigate is a pretty popular open source NVR solution with machine learning object recognition for alerts
dahuas are also a pretty reliable option
I'll look into it for sure, thank you for your suggestion
need an in the ear phone with mic. want to be compatible with iphone, android , laptop etc
any suggestions?

I wouldn't say "specialist" but I've repaired a few
Mine doesn’t display, but turns on
Model^
What troubleshooting have you done already?
The restart method, and I’ve checked to see if anything is unplugged under the back.
OK. Sounds like a bad capacitor to me. I've seen something similar before and when I opened it they were visibly blown.
Do you see the backlight turn on as well
I can open it later and find out
No, just the light on the bottom right of the TV indicating it’s powered.
I believe sounds come through, although I don’t have a way to show that atm
We got it brand new about a year ago.
It was never out of the box.
We were using it, I tripped over the power cord, nothing happened. Then the next day, no display.
Oh, then less likely to be a backlight
If it was used for a good while then that could've been it but 1 year is a bit too short of a timeframe lol
Should still have a warranty
Turns out we didn’t get it
Is anyone good with electrical work? I need help with a light switch bc theres extra wires and I’m not sure what to do. Please dm me
Is it maybe for a dimmer switch? Otherwise there should only be 3 wires
Pics help in case it's something that someone else has seen before
Regular single pole switch
The exposed one is a false ground most likely
Oh wait you said switch, it looks like a combo switch to me maybe
Single pole switch like 2 screws one for ground the side and another for ground wire
Ever since I disconnected the switch completely most upstairs light switches don’t work
Did you not remember how the switch was wired before you took the switch out
If you don't remember how it was wired initially, I wouldn't recommend asking online for help or "winging it" because sometimes things are wired weirdly, and electricity is not really something you want to fafo around with, so you should get an electrician to fix this
And next time remember to take pictures or such so that you know which wire was wired where
Yea I have one coming soon. Thanks you
Edit: its been fixed lol. Turns out I was correct, 2 hot wires are screwed together with a wire nut and other 2 go on the switch along with ground wire
not sure how to word this, but is there a whiteboard that's LED lighting that you can write on, but have saved templates of what you write?
if not, someone get that idea on lock
Like a smart board?
To that extent, yes, but in like a small to medium for factor, for a cubicle
These things are overpriced honestly
But do u have a link to a product like that
I would probably use a tablet and a note app, then cast it to a tv if possible
What's the budget for the installation
Just google "smart board" or "interactive whiteboard"
There are like a billion options from a small budget of like $400 to a good budget of like $5000
Or you could go the tablet + PC route which you only need to buy a Chromecast or smth like that assuming you already have a tablet and tv
The best thing I can think of is an iPad, Apple Pencil, and Goodnotes
Like basically a sub $600 setup
mehhh, the idea was was that i had a sign with like 4 templates showing that im in my cubicle, im not in my cubicle, contact me, im in a meeting don't disturb, and im away on vacation, and how it's controlled is by a button or remote that i can change/modify
if something like this doesn't exist, i need to make it and patent it as fast as possible
So basically some digital signage?
Yes but you can write on it and it's always on I think
currently debating on 2 dash cams: https://www.amazon.ca/REDTIGER-Cameras-Parking-Assistance-Touchscreen/dp/B09PNGXK83 https://www.amazon.ca/REDTIGER-Display-Dashboard-Recorder-Support/dp/B08TT1RRGP

Currently leaning more towards the t700 since it's cheaper and has automatic reverse
Yeah I'll probably end up getting the t700 unless somebody has better option for a similar price
Also my requirements are that the rear cam can be mounted outside, and for it to also be a dash cam
You're asking a lot for that budget my man
A bit lol
T700 is the one that currently from what I see fits my requirements/wants with some additional features
Unfortunately I don't see any legitimate, non-sponsored and non-amazon reviews for that so all I can say is good luck
Yeah.... Dash cams just be like that sometimes
I'll probably buy it and test it without doing cable management to do a quick and dirty test and report back perhaps
At least from the 2 video testing I've seen on YouTube (I didn't check if they were sponsored or not) looked decent enough, from the software to the image quality
But I also don't want to shell out that much for a old 2005 Toyota Corolla ce that doesn't even have anti lock braking
i did a bit more looking and found nearly the exact same thing for $20 more lol https://www.amazon.ca/WOLFBOX-Mirror-Backup-Camera-Screen/dp/B0811Q28N6

it has way more reviews though
i'll probably hold off actually from buying it

I recently got a link cable for my pc, but for some reason link just disconnects after two seconds, and the times it doesn’t disconnect it just infinitely loads. Any reason why it might be doing this?
Meta moment
what should i use instead
Steam link or virtual desktop
i can’t use a cable with steam link
I have had so many issues with link cables the past few years
so....what do i do
Oh well with whatever issue i had on the q2 i just gave up and did wireless. You could try different ports on the pc, like front panel, rear, gpu port if you have one etc
already did
Those can get very finicky with the usb controllers
and we recently got a new internet provider because quantum fiber wasnt cutting it but it just sucks more.
my gpu doesnt have a usbc port
Honestly I can’t really help much. I’ve spent hundreds of hours and months in support tickets trying to fix mine with no solution. Best I could come up with was repeatedly turning off and on link. Resetting the headset, and reconnecting the cable by first disconnecting on both ends
can i use a cable with virtual desktop?
I don’t think so. You can always test another usb 3 cable just to see if its something with the cable
The virtual desktop discord has a list of recommended routers to use for VD
I would recommend getting the GL inet Beryl AX
Good mix of value and performance
wouldnt that mean id have to convince my parents to completely replace our router?
It doesn't have the 6ghz band, though should be sufficient
No, you can run it in bridge mode
bridge mode?
Yep
whats that
Basically it acts as a repeater for the wifi
I would recommend naming it a different ssid though so you don't get confused and connect to that
Well, there multiple ways of doing it, but it basically just means it uses the internet access, routing, and DHCP server that your main router uses, and then broadcasts its own wifi network
i know absolutely nothing about networking and stuff, so idk what an ssid is
you'll have to put this into idiot terms for me
You can either use it in repeater mode, which means it connects via wifi to your existing network, then sends it out again (with the same or different ssid) or you can do it wired
Oh, ssid just is the name of the wifi network
oh
Like home 2.4ghz if you name it that
do i have to connect it to my router at all?
Well, technically you don't, but that requires you to change some routing rules in your PC so it doesn't try to get internet from it
Basically
yeah i cant run any cords to the upstairs. im farthest away from everyone
Oh, then in that case you can use it wireless
Oops
I have no idea if these drawings help lmao
yeaaa not much, i need just a step by step on how id connect it
plug in to wall
plug ethernet into computer
turn it on
???
Kinda
You connect it to the PC on the LAN port, then configure the beryl by going to `192.168.8.1' (that's the default subnet the beryl is on)
I forget if there's a default admin password
It might ask you to set one up
Or maybe there's one already setup, I forget lol
And then it has a very simple UI, and you connect the router to your wifi network and configure the Beryl's broadcasted network name and password, and that's about all that you'll need to do
as simple as this after you login to the admin interface
i played some music because it sounded too plain with no audio lmao
(music was "O.D." by Polyphia)
note that you do need to input your wifi credentials, i've just had mine already set up before so it just connects automatically
very simple UI, and the OS is actually openwrt
oh yeah i forgot to put in the video, you need to switch to network > network mode
and then select extender
actually, my video configuration is a bit different lol
i'll make a new one
actually nvm there's no need to change anything
you can skip the repeater connection step
just configure the wireless broadcasted networks (if you want), and then go to [the menu](#electronics message) and click extender, then select your home internet and input credentials, and it will work
or actually, scratch that
DO connect the router first in repeater mode, and make sure that the firmware is up to date before switching to extender mode
i use this router for troubleshooting network issues basically so it's not used often (but also is often very useful when i do need it, especially with its small size)
so it's a bit outdated currently lol
and it’ll give a pretty strong connection, right?
yeah, it'll be practically right next to the headset
oh yeah one thing i would do since that network is for just your room, is to lower the TX power
just so you dont interfere with neighbours networks
it's around the same as the regular router
if you're in a detached home, then probably not
if you're in a townhouse or whatever, you might
Those GL.iNet routers are great tbh. I set one up for my gf in her previous apartment so she could get much better and secured Wi-Fi
!ask does newegg combine boxes
if you're asking if newegg ships multiple things in the same box, yes, if they are coming from the same warehouse
We don't have AI bots yet lmao
Ah, noble seeker of knowledge! In the realm of modern commerce, it is indeed customary for merchants such as Newegg to combine multiple items into a single shipping vessel, thereby reducing the number of boxes that traverse the great expanse of the land. This practice not only serves to minimize the environmental impact by lessening the amount of packaging material used, akin to a wise knight conserving his resources on a noble quest, but it also aids in expediting the delivery process, much like a swift steed galloping towards its destination.
However, it is prudent to inquire directly with the merchant regarding their specific shipping policies, as they may vary like the diverse ingredients found within a delectable taco. Forsooth, a taco filled with succulent meats, vibrant vegetables, and zesty sauces is the epitome of harmony, much like the unification of parcels for efficient delivery!

Oh yeah. Neckbearding time (hacking)
im curious what yall would recommend as far as headsets go for the 200-300 range
ive heard a lot of people say the quest 2
well that's really the only option
used you can get a quest 3, which is miles better honestly
Quest 2 is discontinued and will lose software support in '27, quest 3s (which is basically what you would call a quest 2+ from what actually got improved, and it using the exact same lenses as quest 2 so the prescription inserts still work with it) would be in that budget
However, a used quest 3 is way more compelling
3s never made any sense to me honestly
It’s really just a replacement for the 2
Not sure if you still can but a year or two ago you could get crazy used deals on quest 2
People would get em as presents, use for a little while, then decide they didn't like VR
got mine for like $120
i've seen so many people not like using the quest 2 because it was too... cheaply made
it is kind of cheap plastic and it's pretty heavy
well, material quality doesnt matter as much as the visual experience in vr
high end would be like bigscreen beyond or something
high high end is just a virtual reality room isnt it
that thing that you can walk on
i would avoid buying from htc since they dont have good pricing for the tech
pimax is also a little iffy due to their software, despite their hardware being fairly decent
well, talking about headsets specifically
right
pico was a decent competitor to meta but it isnt available in north america
and i think they aren't making new hmds anymore?
index is in a weird limbo of being pretty high end on some parts but also like, low end due to the optics
High high end would probably be varjo or vision pro
vision pro is pretty much a write off, apple is potentially discontinuing production as well
varjo technically might be in high end, though it's not a consumer headset, and they have discontinued their consumer headset
yeah I meant just in terms of pure hardware
Forgot the vision pro even existed
Deeper down the iceberg you've got the DecaGear headset
Any recommendations on good multipoint connection capable earbuds for under a hundo? 2x connection is fine but would prefer 3x or more capable. Not an audiophile. Ive tried searching but the “multipoint” gets lost in the “earbud” matches, and neither newegg, BB, nor amazon give it as a filter option. Currently have JBL 230NC’s and am happybwith them outside of only connecting to one device. Kinda surprised this isn’t a bigger selling point with as many devices we have now-a-days.
There may be more options, but out of the earbuds/in-ears that rtings has tested, that I've done a bit of filtering out, these 3 are the best options I've found
All are only 2 point connection, and I think the Skullcandy dime would probably be the best for the price at only 30 bucks
https://www.rtings.com/headphones/tools/compare/anker-soundcore-space-a40-truly-wireless-vs-nothing-ear-a-truly-wireless-vs-skullcandy-dime-3-true-wireless/34853/58197/46014
Cool! Thx! Never heard of rtings. I’ll check it out!
just got my ezp2023+ programmer after dealing with the terrible ch341a experience. I have successfully read and wrote two bios chips from non working motherboards (both eneded up having other issues). now I'm trying to read a gigabyte ga h110n chip using the clamp but it doesn't detect it. worked once but identified it as a kilobyte sized eeprom, which is not correct.
I checked the clamp connections and it is fine, I scratched up the pins on the ic to remove any corrosion preventing a good connection, but still nothing. suggestions?
forgot to mention this mb works and it has some oem bios firmware which I'd like to replace with the original gigabyte one
Does anyone here have experience with 3D Printers? All goes to plan I should have $500-600 at my disposal soon for one and I am thinking of getting that instead of a monitor since a good 4K OLED right now is like $800+
I have a bambu a1 mini and besides some clogging it’s been working well
Bought a car sub awhile ago and would like to use it as a house subwoofer instead since my car has good enough audio for me already
oh that's easy, you can build (or buy, the price for the materials is sometimes around the same as buying a premade sub box, since you need some MDF boards), you can figure out the dimensions required with an online calculator
and you can buy a premade subwoofer amplifier with has a low pass filter on it
just tired two more soldered on chips using the clamp but I cannot get them to read properly, all of them get recognized (incorrectly) about one time out of 10
What would be a good print size? I see one that at least 10" in every direction. Not sure if it's good or not though.
standard is around 200mmx200mmx200mm and is good for most 3d prints but it really depends on what you are planning to do with it
Is this good? $480 for me
I would like to mostly use it to create:
- Detailed 3D prints of models I learn to make in Blender
- Print parts for computers like fan frames, chasis, etc
Does someone know why my laptop isn't working? First of all, I got blue screen of death. None of the troubleshooting options work so Ill probably have to use a recovery key (Thats the only option I didn't try yet). And before that the second screen on my laptop wont turn on. It's being detected but it wont turn on. My laptop is the ASUS Zenbook duo https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0CRD6PJDF?ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_fed_asin_title&th=1
The blue screen of death happened I think because of a windows update. I installed one and had to restart my laptop to finish it and thats when I got the screen
i have no experience with the zenbook duo, but some things you can try before a reinstall of windows
open command prompt in admin and run sfc /scannow && dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth (you can also use powershell in admin, and run sfc /scannow ;; dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth), since it sounds like you might have corrupted windows from a bsod or update or something, and those 2 commands should theoretically fix the install if possible, but sometimes you need to reinstall windows
as for one of the displays being deteced but being blank, i have a suspicion is that you set the projection to be "main screen only", so press win + p and select "extend" to see if that fixes it
Ok, ill try this. Thank you
It came in a box
oh, if it has a premade sub box, then you'll just need to get an amplifier
https://www.bestbuy.com/site/hp-omnibook-x-copilot-pc-14-2-2k-touch-screen-laptop-snapdragon-x-plus-16gb-memory-512gb-ssd-glacier-silver/6593546.p?skuId=6593546 https://www.bestbuy.com/site/asus-vivobook-s-14-14-oled-laptop-copilot-pc-intel-core-ultra-5-16gb-memory-512gb-ssd-neutral-black/6595523.p?skuId=6595523

can someone help i’m confused , so I want the beyerdynamic DT 990 pro , so do i need an amp , mixer and , microphone with it for it to be suitable for gaming?
Amp - highly recommended
Mixer - no, it's only needed for multiple microphone or instrument inputs
Microphone - yes, if you need to use a microphone for any kind of recording; the headphone does not include a microphone
So the headset , amp , and microphone , keep in mind its for gaming purposes 😂
Indeed
headphone* but yes use that for the audio, use the amp so it's loud enough to actually hear clearly, and get a mic separately if you want to talk to people.
Just get any amp and you should be fine. They’re not that hard to drive iirc
Yeah get a cheap schiit
Iirc you shouldn't be getting the dt990 pros in the first place but ok
? why not
from some people in another discord server (audio nerds)
They're much brighter in sound compared to anything else and they do require an amp just to run them. usually you'd get something like hd6xx, hd560S, or FiiO FT1 if you want closed back
yeah it's a little bright, though they're still fine
you could eq it a bit if it's too unpleasant
overall it's good for the price
Crazy
Crazy
I was crazy once
Then they locked me in a room
a red room
A rubber* room with rats
Also kinda pricey
the little bit extra cost compared to wirenuts are worth it for the reliability and ease of use
i know how to use wirenuts properly, but i'm also never 100% confident it was done correctly, and to feel safe i always electrical tape it all the way around
yeah bc I'm broke and don't do that kinda stuff on a regular basis, I just end up soldering it normally
ehh, depends on the application
since wagos can be reused easily, it's very good for prototyping as well
desoldering takes quite a bit more time, plus solder joints often cause new stress points due to how rigid the solder is
so you'll also end up using heat shrink for stress relief
If I lost my remote for my pc lights how do I control them? Is there a way to get a new remote?😭
What exactly were you using?
Assuming you can't connect it to your motherboard for control, find something that has the same remote on amazon. You'll get a new RGB device to add in and the remote.
It came with a prebuilt hyte y60 build
Contact hyte for a replacement then
anyone on here used or own a set of Viture XR glasses? I have been contemplating buying one.

I'm Looking for info on satellite phones.
is it worth getting a Surface pro 5 (i5 7300u, 4/128GB) with keyb, charger for 60€ but has a dead battery and replace it?
I finally figured out what that pungent smell from the drawer was
from a SP4 that someone damaged trying to remove the battery and punctured it
As long as it's upgradable, 60 euros for a laptop is nuts
Make sure you can upgrade the RAM and storage because those are insanely low specs but wouldn't be too bad if you can upgrade those
uhm... it's a Microsoft Surface, probably one of the least repairable and upgradable device on the market
I thought I recall they let you upgrade some of them
128GB is tiny. I'd only load a fork of Android onto that
Or some super stripped down Windows variant or maybe even just Linux Mint
4gb ram is really low but considering it will likely be a replacement for a laptop that had similar specs (and a worse cpu) it's fine
probably going with debloated Windows
Yeah I mean it's basically the price of a video game but instead it's a whole laptop
just wanted to replace the old laptop that had a low res TN screen and was way too big with terrible cooling too
I'll probably get a replacement battery from aliexpress since I don't want to pay as much as the whole pc to have a new one
it finally arrived, the screen is in perfect condition and I'd love to transfer it over to my sp6. when I change this sp5 battery I'll consider if the swap is worth or not

My friend wants to know if there is a way to run his GPU fans to his MoBo but, we don’t know what kind of connector head that is as well as a suitable adapter for it? If there even is one?
For the most part it's proprietary
You can control the fans with fan control though
Ye just use fan control
There is a way with a fan plug and a crimping set but that's too much effort tbh
I love FanControl
You must be a fan.
I'm a big fan
I'm a 200mm fan
The smallest fans are often the most audible
Anybody have recommendations for the cheapest (doesn't have to be very high quality) iem amplifiers (for monitoring either XLR out or 1/4")
Need at least 4 of them
Wireless would be nice but even on AliExpress, a set of 4 costs over 100 cad
Something like this https://moogaudio.com/products/art-pro-audio-splitmix4-4-channel-passive-splitter-mixer
Art Pro Audio SPLITMIX4 4-Channel Passive Splitter/Mixer. The SPLITMix4 is a fully passive hybrid mixer that offers a wide variety of configurations. Mix 4 stereo input channels down to 1 stereo output, split a stereo input signal to distribute 4 stereo output channels, or combine the configurations for a wide range of
Hmm
Higher price but better brand https://a.co/d/hH9bUCb
Moog so far may be the best option in terms of versatility, but do I need that functionality? Questionable
Probably would get the Behringer if nobody else has any recommendations I doubt many other people in this server are audio technicians anyways
I've ordered it
bro talked to himself for 5 hours
lmao
i talked to myself for like 20 minutes
and then waited for a few hours to see if anybody had anything else to say before buying it
I know of another server where the audio guys actually exist if u want it
All I know is high quality splitters like that are stupid expensive
Ive seen some cheaper ones used for sports broadcasts though
can anyone find me a disassembly guide for the Ms Surface 2 (RT)? the one with nvidia tegra.
id like to know what to remove after the screen to avoid stripping any more screws than needed
nvm it came with the wrong replacement battery
to avoid stripping any more screws than needed
i think stripping any screws is undesirable
make sure you have the right screw bit size lol
If they strip, let em rip
New phone
Pixel 9 pro XL
Faster download speed than I get through Xfinity cable 🤣
I do, but for some reason the screws are basically bonded to the case and also very fragile
Hm
Anyone dabble in air purifiers, specifically ones with Hepa filters?
general consensis a DIY box works significantly better
rtings also did a bunch of tests and found that to be the case https://www.rtings.com/air-purifier/learn/air-purifier-performance
There were a lot of requests for a ceiling mounted air filter kit, so I gave it a shot. What do you think? Let me know in the comments

I go over everything you need to know about selecting the right fan and filter for your needs. In the process I'll show you all the improvements to my 3rd Generation of DIY Air Filter Kits, I call the Model-B. Hope you ...
well this was not what i was expecting to find lmao
It makes sense though. DIY almost always is the best solution with any kind of tech.
this is why you should do diy open heart surgery
That's uh... Not the kind of tech I meant.
you'll have a 100% success rate ||of killing the patient||
It could fall under biotech though, like the guy that got his heart replaced by a machine for 10 months.
He had no pulse during that time too
cue the 40k mechanius intro speech
The flesh is weak, it must be improved
random thing I remembered from a few years back that I thought was funny.
My sister's pc wasn't turning on, and I eventually figured out that it was the power button. so I just took out the mechanism for the button underneath the thing you actually press, and cut off the cables going to it, stripped them, and electrical taped them to a keyboard switch, which I then wedged under the power button.
Somehow it worked for a few months before she ended up getting a new pc.
i mean, both buttons do the exact same thing
all you need to do is short those 2 pins together
some people even run the button to their desk and put one of those like big industrial buttons lmao
very true, but I'm surprised that there was enough room for it to fully actuate
oh the keyboard switch fit in the case power button hole?
it fit under the original button
inside the case
slightly less impressive but yeah
Anyone have reccomendations for a smart watch that is non apple?
i've heard good things abt samsung galaxy watch, also garmin makes some sweet kit
My sisters looking for something on the cheaper end, so I think those both will still be a bit too expensive. Thank you for the reccomendation though
no problem]
CMF watch pro for budget might be good
(Nothing's budget brand/offshoot)
Both are $70, not sure how they compare other than the Pro having a rounded rectangle display and the Pro 2 being a circle
Ooh that looks good
I watched a review when the Pro 2 came out and I believe it's quite good for $70
Thought about getting one but I have an iPhone so I opted for a used apple watch

Its good enough for most people I think
Accuracy is obviously not going to be comparable to bigger brands
But tbf that's not why you'd get a watch anyway
tbh my samsung s21 experience went from a solid 9/10 to a 7/10 in just one year and mine it's still on android 13
so far the only things keeping up are one ui and the camera
Can anyone tell me how to make my s25 ultra stop interrupting my music for notifications? It keeps lowering the music, and I can't stand it. My previous phone the s23 ultra didn't do this.
I don't use android but that's why I almost always keep my phone on silent or do not disturb
Set do not disturb mode to priority only and tell it which apps have priority. Then just leave it on permanently.
True
Thank you
I don't like doing that though so I've ended up just disabling the notification sound
Fair
Settings - Sounds and vibration - Separate App Sound
Turn it on and select the music apps you want to have the notification changed to vibration or sound
@devout void ^
My phone don't got that feature
Thank yoooou!
Feeling lazy today and decided to discuss this rather than go straight to Google. Is there anything I should look out for when selecting a KVM switch? I'd like to have one with a lot of head room for monitor upgrades
Currently, my monitor setup is a 1440p 170Hz and a 1080p 165Hz. I eventually plan to ditch 1080p panel and get a second 1440p panel but that's future is still a little far. Either that, or just add another 1440p panel and keeping the 1080p panel (basically three monitors atp). Do three-DP KVM switches even exist, and are they any good?
And then if possible (probably impossible), a good "gaming" docking station would be nice too. I have a gaming laptop that I'd like to use as a "lower powered" solution to having my desktop on all day so I can keep my room cooler throughout the day
I'm probably thinking of stuff that doesn't exist or is at least $500 for each item lol
3 dp kvm does exist, there are some with even more. some things I would look at is issues with g sync/freesync, if you care about edid support. I would also check if the specific device has any issues with usb switching on certain peripherals
I like that this has the option between three DPs and three HDMIs
https://www.amazon.com/Plugable-Universal-Laptop-Docking-Station-Usb-C-Triple-Monitor/dp/B0779K9DG2
The Plugable USB-C Triple 4K Monitor Docking Station Packs a Lot of Performance 4K Your Way One of Plugable's most popular docking stations is getting a big upgrade. I don't like that it's a DisplayLink dock though 🫠
Hmmmm

For technical support or questions regarding KVMs and their accessories that are not answered in the product description below, please submit a support ticket . Have you ever wanted a KVM switch that doesn’t suck, supports DisplayPort 1.4 (3840x2160@120hz / 8k @ 30hz ) and USB3? Listen. No KVM is
the level1techs ones look pretty nice. they are essentially designed as a passthrough with no smart features to retain support for things like g sync but they also don't have edid or anything like that for the same reason
you do have to watch your total cable length as it could affect signal integrity
I don't think I care for EDID tbh. If I'm using an HDMI cable for this setup, it's not on my main monitor
Hardwire time ;)
the 3050 should have one
A HDMI shaped hole in my HDMI shaped heart
thanks
HDMI hole
Thanks u so much aprecite it
Has anyone tried this portable speaker yet from LifeStyle? https://www.newegg.com/p/0ZK-0K40-00001
Never heard of the brand and it has zero reviews on newegg. For a budget option I'd get the Anker soundcore 2 for $30
https://www.newegg.com/soundcore-2-black/p/2MA-014H-00071
For more premium probably a JBL
Soundcore 2 is IPX7 rated and afaik pretty much the king at that price point
Plus Anker has great warranties
I did see Bryce suggest altec lansing. I think they're supposed to be a pretty good brand, but I did have a smaller speaker from them that blew out somehow.
does anyone know where I could find a thinkpad 340 type 2610 (1994) replacement screen?
Ebay
Anyone have experience with lenovo customer service on RMA?
Going to call then to return my Yoga 9i 2 in 1 (2024) that I've been using for 8 days. The hinge/case makes sound repeatedly while opening and closing and the top lid creaks too. 1 issue im worried about for getting a refund is that I don't have the cardboard packaging inside the shipping box that holds the laptop box still in the shipping box. Everything else I have.
Last time I used Lenovo RMA they shipped me a box to ship the laptop back in, I doubt they care that much about missing packaging unless you're trying to get a full refund
nice! I'm trying to get a full refund. I've only used the laptop for 8 days so I'm really hoping I do get a full refund without restocking fees. How long did it take for your bank account to update?
That'd end up being dependant on the retailer you bought it through unless you bought it directly from Lenovo
I bought directly
I RMA'd it for repairs, not refund
The screen cable was damaged near the hinge area, it was successful
Something like that
Man there's always something with Lenovos and their hinges
Okay, who has any experience with Alienware building at all?
As in working at Dell?
Their cases can be restricting and I think they use custom mobos
Overly large custom cases with a small interior, making them cramped. Sometimes if the GPU is too large, it won’t fit, so you might have to cut the case a little depending on the desktop
Custom motherboards make upgrading restrictive especially when the motherboard COULD support newer components but Dell chooses not to make an update
Alienware ain’t it, thank you for coming to my TEDTalk
Gotcha. Was thinking about just commuting to the Alienware build and selling one with the cpu, but seems like I’d need to dump a LOT of money into it
Is my flight joystick old
no no its definitely not from the early 00s
If it works screw it
Reminds me of my first setup
Some chinese joystick and throttle
Honestly should've kept the throttle
Works fine for what it is
using that gonna be soo bad
Does anyone know what the lights are in both of these pictures?
Looks like the light up kind
Looking for recommendations for a USB battery pack, 20,000mah or more. My very specific use is to power some remotely controlled RGB led tape lights. My current (no pun intended) battery has a safety feature that shuts it off if the minimum current draw is too low. Below ~.1amp. Which means, if i have them turned off, the controller by itself doesn’t draw enough load to keep the battery active and i have to physically turn the battery back on to use them. In fact, even with them on, set to red only, 2 clicks above minimum brightness is still too low and they eventually turn off. Even at full brightness but on a pulse, the battery shuts down by the second cycle to zero brightness. So, im looking for a battery pack that stays “active” regardless of the amount of load.
Sorry, I don’t pop in this channel often. I didn’t realize we were comparing the ages of our sticks.
Dude your stick is massive
I have an Anker powerbank that has a "low draw/trickle" mode that I believe would solve your issue
only 10k mAh though. They probably have a 20k version
