It might have been
For open box best buy had as low as $411 but went oos super fast
But either way 411-450 is great for a 4070
Cheapest 4070S on pcpp is $600 rn
7800 XT at $500 is still a better value unless you really really want nvidia
~10% more fps for 20% more money
I wonder if the 6800XT would be a better buy
If it's still in stock for like the same price as the 7800XT
6800 XT is $430 open box on newegg
I can still get brand new 6800XTs lel
Oh right, not in the US.
7800 XT does get a few extra features tacked on like AV1 encoding
ah thought it was closer
But like
Idk if those would make it worth it for roughly the same cost
Depends on resolution, 4k is much closer
But only in raw fps data, it's pretty much 8-12% over all resolutions
Against this @kindred yacht
Depends, would you ever consider streaming or do you do anything with a webcam? AV1 really is nice for that
The price is like within 0.01% diff
had a look in canada atm 7800xt is actually 10$ cheaper than 6800xt lel
Maybe?
Like probably not, but maybe
Streaming that is
Not like I'd be the next Twitch superstar lmao
If there's a chance, AV1 is definitely the future, quickly becoming the present. It's just better than H.265 in every way.
Less bandwidth, better quality, everything
Besides the 7800XT pretty much gives the same perf in raster
But a good bit better on RT
Right?
Indeed
I mean that's pretty legit
Fine you convinced me
The real question is
Do I wanna step up to a 7900XT for 1440p
Smaller sample of games but it is a little better. Other news outlets have it a little bit bigger gap iirc.
Scaling in price to perf is basically linear
30% faster for 30% more here on the 7900XT
You'd be stepping up from 1440p high to 1440p ultra in essence
I mean
That's worth honestly
It might not be meta
But I think that's worth
And more VRAM too so
It's just a nice package
It'll probably age better but honestly 12GB is plenty for the foreseeable future
Alright then
7900XT it is (unless I find a 6900 XT OC Formula for less than a 7800XT)
Since that's an XTXH card
So it could very well be somewhat competitive with the 7900XT while costing less than the 7800XT
Xtxh isn't too important unless you're ocing, stock it's not a major difference
Also what about 6950xt?
Pretty much unobtainable
Ah alr
Like they don't exist
Not even used
I saw ONE on the used markets
It went in a flash
6 hours after the ad was put up it was already sold
I mean a 6900XT would beat a 7800XT in raw perf right?
But power consumption would be way higher
Yes
The 7900XT is likely significantly faster than the 6900xt but it also costs more... Choices choices...
HOW IS a 4070 super build that cheap
because it's $600
https://www.facebook.com/marketplace/item/2314644848732929/?ref=saved&referral_code=null this is what i decided on trying to get i will risk the less performance on the 2k resoloution
I dont even see a pump or resorvar in this idk how there saying its liquid cooled?
That price is meh, and it's got an aio
Are you okay with building yourself?
Not really the problem I have with that is when ever something gets shipped lately it almost always goes to the wrong address
Like this has better cpu, more ram, just as good ssd, probably better case, about the same gpu excluding ray tracing (or you could spend 40$ more for a 4070)
https://pcpartpicker.com/list/9V6PYN
Part List - AMD Ryzen 5 7600, Radeon RX 7800 XT, Phanteks Eclipse G300A (1 Fan) ATX Mid Tower
That's weird
Have you tried talking to your post office or something
We have it’s been Amazon and other shipping companies even it went to the bad neighbor and if you have had that happen you know your not likely to get it back
That's wack, you tried talking to them too?
Ive looked at the performance differences its not that big of a difference between the 4070 and 4070S
Thats a whole differnet story
It's big enough, about 15% for about a 10% increase in money
But the thing is this is 1440p ray tracing i never have ray tracing on as it is and i almost always play competitive so i do low settings. And the main reason im looking at prebuilts still is the fact of it winding up going to a differnet address if it winds up at the neighbor or two towns away from me if it goes to the neighbor it can start stuff back up with them that i dont want happening right now
I'm talking about raster performance (non ray tracing)
That's a weird situation
Exactly why im trying to do this on the side of caution
Lemme have a look at best buy prebuilts, you near a micro centrr at all?
800 and possible two to three hundred on top
Also which best buy and microcenter would be the closest to you?
Either or i can do the drive to both bestbuy is the closest by far
Sorry i mean like which branch of each is the closest to you
Because the store selector on their site will show stock
Also how open to DIY are you?
if its parts in store that i could pick up then yes i would try diy
Okay cool let me see what i can do, I'll try do one for each step of 100$ roughly from 800 to 1100
Ok thank you sir
@granite haven also do you want the pc to have wifi?
I have a usb wifi card from the optiplex pc i had
You'd prolly want to buy the gpu elsewhere or used
Best buy typically has meh gpu pricing, maybe 4070s will be msrp
Microcenter would do tho
Oh right they have mc, mb
Missed that
Powerspec 850 is $90 or rm750e is $100
Either 5800x3d bundle or 7800x3d bundle for cpu, mobo and ram
Lancool 205m mesh or ap201 for case
Inland platinum 1tb
Ag400/ak620 depending on 7800x3d or 5800x3d
@granite haven for 800, everything from your MC
https://pcpartpicker.com/list/dXY8Xk
Part List - AMD Ryzen 5 5600, GeForce RTX 3060 Ti LHR
Like bacca said could do better if bought used gpu in person or something
I don't have time to do the other ones but that should be a good starting point
I gave a list of parts above that should fill around an 1100-1400 budget depending on gpu chosen
Everything without gpu comes to around 700-800 depending on if you go 5800x3d or 7800x3d bundle
i saw your list but the problem is with shipping things bareley come to the right address
No like
Right here
Not an actual pcp list just things to get from mc
6950xt is $550 at mc, which is decent
@granite haven
???
i saw it i was looking before
Ah ok sorry
Im trying to sell/go to my scrap buyer soon to try and get more money up for a 4070 super build
Super glue would honestly probably work
super glue yeah
hmm
Question when on laptops they have a usb c port do they support usb c charging for on the go?
Depends on the laptop tbh
Mine has usb c but doesn't charge w it
It's rarer on gaming laptops because full power at least for high end ones, they'd still losose battery
Oof i was looking at laptops again because of me possibly going to college yes i know it would only be 1080p depending on if its 4060 or 4070
Lenovo Legion 5 15.6" WQHD 165Hz Gaming Laptop AMD Ryzen 7 7735HS 16GB RAM 512GB SSD NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4060 8GB Storm Grey. Processor Model 7735HS. Powerful Performance Experience exceptional computing with the AMD Ryzen 7 7735H CPU, providing impressive processing power for seamless multitasking, content creation, and gaming.
Best value laptop atm
thank you
Does anyone know if there is a lightning cable ssd adapter so it works on iPhone 14 I’m trying to do editing both on phone and pc I have a 512gb ssd I want to use it’s an m.2
Lightning is only USB 2.0 so you might as well just use a lightning to USB A adapter, then plug the SSD enclosure into that. Or USB C, whichever the enclosure uses.
No matter what though, it won't go very fast.
slower than a hard drive
480Mbps assuming the max 2.0 speed is supported on both ends.
60MBps. My HDD doubles that.
S21 with new battery came in, i can only say it is absolutely fantastic, went through a full day with intensive use (configuring the phone and setting up / installing apps), still 10% left
Btw im currently on android 13 & one ui 5.1, 120hz, no battery saver.
10% left on samsung means you have 10s to find a charger hehe
lol
but grats
i believe the eu version is exynos powered
so that's amazing for a small battery
Anyone got a soldering station recommendation? Need one for my studies as a EE and looking to stay under $100. Want the ability to solder traditionally and a hot air gun for reflow if possible. I was looking to see if there are any local used hakko units near me but sadly there's nothing
bro what kind of temps does this have for him to do that to the gpu https://www.facebook.com/share/hUmebwY85h2oh9ew/?mibextid=79PoIi
See posts, photos and more on Facebook.
Lmao
I mean is that excessive
That looks over kill it looks like he was doing anything and everything maximum
That's standard 3090 things honestly
The memory gets very toasty. I did the same thing but also put a fan. It still overheated.
Pretty much
It actually is snapdragon 888, iirc the ones with exynos are sold in Asia & southern countries
It is impressive for a < 3900mAh battery but Samsung still cant get that standby battery drain down to a reasonable amount
If i were to use my phone continuously I'd probably match the amount it gets using standby only
I charged it to 85 yesterday evening, dropped to 76 overnight and down to 50 with 5h standby + 30min use
You got lucky then most samsung eu phones are exynos :(
Yep, at least they match in battery consumption even tho exynos offers slightly less performance
They don't, the Snapdragon chips have far superior battery life
On s21 they almost match in battery tests, I'm not sure about other latest ones
I still prefer my previous Realme 5 for battery life, 2-3 days with normal use and no significant standby drain
im possibly trading my current laptop plus 700 is this worht it ? https://www.facebook.com/marketplace/item/1391977835022236/?referralSurface=messenger_lightspeed_banner&referralCode=messenger_banner
i mean it even has 9 months of warrenty
so i could replace it
Depends what your currently laptop is
Imo no. The laptop I linked you on ebay will not be much worse
And is $870. You could sell yours for at the very minimum $500.
Bruh i got it at $550 i aint selling it for less than what i got it at
oh that explains it
exynos s21 sucks its 3900 mah batt like it's a box of juice
s22 and s23 here use snapdragon socs
and s24 back to exynos again
Then you don't understand the used market
Electronics depreciate immediately, even before you open the box
Question when I asked if it was worth it do you mean the value of it will go down fast or the performance of it
Depreciation refers to value
Performance usually remains unchanged provided you do proper maintenance
Im leaning towards getting it mainly because of how this laptop is going down
Its mainly becuase of where the ports are
on this asus laptop there on the sides and the side with the mouse on the levnovo if i saw the right one the main ports are on the back which is the BEST
Kind of a weird question, i was playing around with frequencies and waves on my phone (s21) using an app for no big reason, and i noticed 3.5~3.8kHz has a very high pitch and is also extremely loud at max volume, almost as a fire alarm. So i was wondering if such mix of freq and volume could actually damage the speaker over time or cause immediate damage, are phone speakers in general capable of damaging themselves if blasted with these sounds?
I haven't noticed any sort of differences after deafening myself with these sounds so i guess theyre ok (*ok for the speakers), also very impressed by how powerful they are
I know there's kernel level mods you can use with xposed framework that boost the volume so I know the speakers are capable of much higher volumes. As for whether that'll damage it, probably not in the short term but might reduce life long term.
Ok, so any normal use, without any sort of boost and just 100% volume won't do anything either short or long term
Thank you for the info
is there away to get steel series sonar to work without having to update firmware and heres the thing i click update and nothing happens its the steel series arctis nova pro wireless
I traded it he valued it at 600 and I paid 700 extra for the Lenovo
And he isn’t making money on it at all he posted it at599
Did you not read a word I said he valued it at 6 is selling it at 599 he accepted the trade because gaming laptops bring in customers and there easy to move
and also think about it every small time business owner is looking for ways to get customers in and a rtx 3060 laptop he can let go cheaper and boom he has a customer and hes even a possibly computer scrap buyer that would buy some computers off of me when i get them as scrap
you run a business through discord not a local
No what i meant to say was this was a open box deal the guy who brought it to the shop only used it for a bout a month. I offer to trade my asus rtx 3060 laptop that had chunks out of the charger so he vauled it at 600. he had it at 1300 so i gave the 700 for it its still under the warrenty
cor i7 13700hx 32 gb ram rtx 4070
That's not the worst deal I've seen. Overpaid around 150-250 I'd say
100 at most idk where yall seen this at 1200 i havent seen that used anywhere
how can you say 150=250 when average its like 1,400
im talking about same spec wise
Well 4070 to start with just isn't really worth it over 4060. 13700hx has worse perf per watt than 7535hs. I'd have taken the Legion refurb at $870 and sold the one you had any day of the week over that trade to be honest.
It isn't worth looking back and regretting, the trade is done and that's the end of the story. Be happy with what you have and don't bother with thinking about it
And why you felt the need to argue back and forth with him on his own purchase when nothing can be done about it for an hour and a half is beyond me
If he were about to and you were tryna convince him not to I can understand
anyone have any idea why I can stream to discord or upload a youtube video while playing games and no problem at all. but if I try to stream to twitch I get extreame lag and packet loss in those same games
Average Twitch moment.
Probably need to tweak the encode settings, it might be using your CPU instead of your GPU for some reason.
that would cause packet loss?
If it's being encoded badly yes
It would be taking cycles away from other tasks if it's using the CPU, such as the game or net connection
hmm
One way you can tell is to watch task manager on a separate window while you stream and see if the CPU gets loaded
I mean im using CPU rather than GPU encoder because I thought R9 3900x would be better than GTX 1060 3gb.
CPU Usage preset is set to veryfast but ive tried slow, slower, fast and medium and all does the same thing
I always thought it was just because I dont have the best of internet but ive been gaming for hours while uploaded files and a video in the background and havent gone over 1% packet loss
Neither of those are going to be particulary good for Twitch but the 1060 does have nvenc
when you say neither, you are talking cpu and gpu, right?
Yes
really? I thought the 3900x would have been decent.....
Twitch loads up 6 cores I think for CPU encode, which will trigger the fatal flaw of the 3900X which is cross CCD latency
You can reduce but never eliminate the issues with multi core loads like that
hmmm. I will have to give that a try, I use to stream tarkov heavy without issues before but then with my current pc (new at the time) I would get extream desync if streaming and just thought it was because they redid netcode 🤣 Im not the brightest when it comes to this. But I didnt think better pc parts would be worse lmfao
They did redo the encoder on Twitch when they added AV1
For gaming the best AMD chips, starting from the 3000 series, are all the single CCD X800 class ones because you don't have to worry about that latency causing bad 1% lows or dropped frames entirely
so to use NVENC, should I use the NVENC h.264 like I used to or use the NVENC (new)?
1% lows or dropped frames on stream or gaming?
nvenc new iirc
Both
really? I havent had an issue with that, just internet related stuff....
You probably just don't have anything to compare it to
I tried streaming modern warfare 2019 once and hit 600 ping with 40% packet loss....
On my 5800X if I'm running at 200 fps my 1% lows are around 175, but a 5900X would be more like 140.
actually come to think of it. it was only me at that ping and packet loss, my brother who is on the same internet was fine......
This stuff all gets pretty complicated pretty quick lol. ive tried using the same settings that others with the same ish setup have and it doesnt run like theirs. I think im just gonna have to do a bunch of trial and error on my own
Ah wait I think the "new" one starts with 16/20 series
before I waste my time on it though, is 2mb upload enough to do anything with?
I mean ive done it before but I just dont remember if the quality was any good and I dont remember what bitrate I used.
2Mbps = 2,000,000 bits per second
Keep your bitrate under that and you're fine
2 million or 2 thousand bits? I think it was 1,000 bits per Mbps...
1 kilobit is 1000 bits
so 2500 bitrate for streaming is too low?
I thought twitch could only do like 5,000 bits?
I wouldn't say "too low" but you can do higher
Twitch caps it at 3.5Mbps or 3,500,000
I get about 40 Megabit down and between 2 and 3 megabit up. right now its only showing 1.5 Mbps but I think that is because im uploading
That's acceptable if nothing else is using the network
Is it measuring bitrate in bps or Kbps
That's for larger streamers
Little guys get less allocation
SLOBS just says bitrate but google says kbps for twitch streaming and then goes on to say new and low streamers shouldnt do that high
Yeah slobs measures in kbps
is 1 bit = 1 kilobit?
No 1 bit is 1 bit
1000 bits is 1Kb
So since your software is measuring in Kbps you want to keep your bitrate a little under what your network allows so your stream doesn't use the full network and start lagging things
On your network I'd do maybe 1800 assuming nothing but the game and stream are running
well discord and a couple of chrome tabs too but I dont think those are that bad
Discord connection is negligible for upload, chrome too if it's not uploading
I may have the behind the scenes part confused but am I atleast right in thinking 1000 bitrate in SLOBS is equal to 1 Megabit?
Yes
so then 2500 was too high especially if my brother plays at the same time
Yes
could that be the cause of ping spike?
Possibly
ok so use less bitrate and also go back to gpu encoder. got it
we are supposed to be getting fiber optic in my neighborhood apparently by the end of the year and their offering price is half what I pay now. I cant wait for it lmfao
Looks like you'll be limited to about 720p at about 20 or so fps using nvenc with that upload speed
they said up to 2Gb down/up. wonder if its true
If it's true fiber then yes that's totally possible
could I push 720p 30fps?
No that would need 3000 bitrate
its some sort of intergration into the power line, they call it fiber to the home (FTTH)
FTTH is good, that means the neighborhood will have true fiber and you'll have copper cables in your home that connects to it
2Gb is reasonable over modern coax
wont I still be limited by copper?
Technically yes but coax can run up to 10Gbps in theory over short runs
then again, it has got to be better than DSL
Here's a visual of "FTTx" and how much copper vs fiber is used
Fiber to the Node
Fiber to the Curb
Fiber to the Building
Fiber to the Home
FTTH is a VERY short run of copper so I wouldn't worry about that being a limit
oh, so its ran over less copper so less fall off?
Basically yes
You're more likely to reach peak theoretical speeds over short runs like that
interesting. basically the way I envisioned it was in the opposite order on that list
I thought we would have fiber from the house to the road which is why I thought I was doomed, I have a longer driveway
My complex has FTTC, I saw them installing the lines and our building still uses coax in the junction box
We have the option of up to about 1.2Gbps
I wonder if say we even get 500Mb up/down if we could reduce to one plan.
40Mb down and 2/3Mb up is rough on a household of 6. we have 2 seperate lines in the same house lol. if we could run 6 people on one plan that would be sick
Should be easy at that speed, even if everyone is streaming 4k youtube at the same time
hmm. I know one big issue we suffer even with 2 lines is if someone turns their computer on and steam starts a download/update. both lines will instantly hit like 300-400 ping in games until the download is stopped/finished. is that normal for fiber too?
Last question about this lol. im making myself anxious and its still pretty much a year out.
No, fiber has more bandwidth and you'd be getting much better routers
I can download a steam game while there's 3 streams running on other devices and no one gets buffers
wtf?
you would think fiber would be more expensive, I dont understand why its like 1/3rd the price and 500x better......
DSL requires more maintenance right now because the phone lines are so old
My grandma was paying $120 a month for DSL and refused to change it, even though the cable company had 300 down, plus phone and TV for the same price.
maybe ill hold off starting back on streaming until I upgrade my GPU and get FTTH going. until then maybe ill set my greenscreen back up and start youtube for now
that way atleast the videos are watchable
Thanks for all the help!
bros, i do have a slight problem regarding a laptop, i dont know if this is the right thread for this but ill ask anyways
for some odd reason my cpu clock slows down to 0..79Ghz while the laptop is pluged in
when unpluged it works just fine
note: i am using a 180w 9.5A power brick, the original one was 150W 7.7A, could that be the problem?
i've alredy chenged the power options but it doesn't work, still same issue
That's the wrong voltage power supply, the original is 19.5V (150/7.7=19.48) and the new one is 18.9V (180/9.5=18.94) so yes it's quite likely the power brick is the problem
I mean idk about that, there is usually voltage regulators after laptop power input which have a decent range of error.
Im no electrical engineer but based on the few things I've seen I dont think that'd be the issue.
Yes there's usually a +/-10% error range but that doesn't mean it won't trip some sort of safety logic on the board or in the bios
Especially if it's an OEM like Dell or HP that likes to strictly control everything. I think at one point HP had chips in their power bricks to identify itself through voltage pulses when plugged in.
Hi I just set up ZJ Box model number DEC1668 Black High Performance HD TV 1080P USB Digital Converter Cable Box recorder. All went smoothly but when I got to the Time Category I could not change the time from Green Mountain Time so the box is showing military time or what they use in GMT. I live in the central time zone USA. I can't record anything if the time is not correct. HELP!!!
is anyone able to find the service manual for the yamaha avx 2000 dsp (1990)
it can be either in english or japanese
even paid ones i cant find a copy
i can barely even find an owners manual
Look up intel avx
2000 edition
Then yamaha 1990
Then
Go downstairs to your yugioh collection
Dig out the age old fusion card
Then chuck it at your screen
real
but considering that yamaha has a unit displayed in their innovation museum, there is a surprisingly small amount of information regarding this system
Or this
pulse is a trash laptop
only one ssd slot
i think there's better options for 1.5k range
i would get dis
She wouldn’t need more than a tb
It would be for some school and Skyrim gaming
not only that, it's just poor quality and performance overall
besides this one is much cheaper
msi fell off hard this gen with laptops
They had something good with 11th gen
Kept it going
Threw it
Back to the mediocrity from 10th gen and older

Well, could you find one with a touchscreen possibly? (She had a smaller stature and bowed arms, so touchscreen helps when her shoulders get tired.
@chrome dust
$699 for 7940HS
even outside of gaming context, and upgradability thrown out
this one is great deal
780M is faster than 1650 in games
should run skyrim perfectly fine
What about a modded skyrim?
still ok im sure
Not like 4K shaders and 23 different enbs
But like, 60~ mods
Basically a portable Xbox series x lmao
That’s what she desires
hrm
yeah that will do
i doubt it hits the gpu hard like high res and shaders
the cpu is no slouch
perfect form factor for this kind of user
can be a tablet
Ask @kindred yacht about modded skyrim
I agree with foxy's suggestion tho
Good gpu or not
Touch screen laptops get unnecessarily expensive
lol skyrim mods are kinda decently optimized
even my 1660 super and 9600kf could handle 150+ random mods
That is the owners manual, tho it does have a simplified circuit diagram which should help with troubleshooting ig
Skyrim modding is 10x harder now thanks to bethesda trying to block mod managers and some other engine tweaks. Probably so they can push their paid mods "creations" but this could be the death of skyrim modding for me. Considering uninstalling and reclaiming my 200GB of space.
I was always so diligent on making sure my game didn't update but today I got an error and steam force downloaded the update. Now none of my mods are working.
Oh and apparently they changed the .esl format so that broke every save game. I'm done. Bye skyrim, it's been a fun 12 years.
and this is why pirating is still alive
I personally just downloaded the old versions
they have the old data saved on nexus i think. havent done it in awhile but i refuse to update skyrim
Is vlc media player the safest option to use to watch a dvd i plugged a usb dvd player in and went with the first option on Microsoft store i got worried when the cpu usage was spiking while on charge
vlc is fine lol
windows store version is probably worse than standalone install
and it's probably only using the cpu to decode
normal behavior with video players if gpu acceleration isn't enabled
Ok i was using any dvd off the Microsoft store but I will switch to vlc
Vlc is the norm proper use, there is another more recent one people like now i think it’s called mpv
Yeah MPV is the nicer one, more ideal if you care about cool quality stuff.
I just realized my english was kind of weird, mustve been autocorrect but i dont remember what i meant to say oh well
Probably meant "people" instead of "proper"
ASUS FINALY GAVE ME THE CODE FOR THE 3 MONTHS OF ADOBE SOFTWARE
LETS GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
Hi everyone
To prevent updates, the best method is changing the steam manifest file to "read only".
I'm 2 updates back.
You can try unpatching your game with the "Unofficial Skyrim Special Edition Downgrade Patcher" to fix it if you didn't uninstall already.
is anyone able to help me figure out why the hell my bluetooth suddenly doesnt wanna work
Bluetooth
it worked before
now it wants to say my device doesnt have bluetooth capability
and i cant turn it on or off
Question i was trying to buy Keychron V5 Max QMK/VIA Wireless Custom Mechanical Keyboard with a visa gift card turns out keychron is out of Usa and that visa gift card cant do out of country purchases is there another keyboard like this with a wireless usb c reciever>
You can try putting the gift card on paypal and pay for it with paypal
Tried that i added the card it was still blocked
i dont know if there is away to add it to the paypal balance though
Then you can try to see if anyone lists it on Amazon
I did already and i checked new egg
Im prolly biased in this thought process but whats the point of a wireless keyboard
Ig other than portability for whatever reason
Clean desk space. More room behind the keeb with no wire.
does anyone know why im unable to ping from vlan 67 to 84
i feel like im missing something but i'm not sure
what the heck, why is the vlan not even pingable in my simulator
other vlan is fine
tho technically vlan 84 doesnt have an interface for it, since i want it for the trunking, though im unable to simulate the trunking
would the vlan be unreachable if it is down cause there's no interfaces?
it doesnt show the routes for it at least when i do show ip route
I remember having to watch tutorials on vlans lol
I have an issue with my rog strix g18 (2023), sometimes the laptop doesnt post and battery light blinks orange, after some fans start to speed up
when this happens the only way of fixing it is holding down the power button for ~20 secs and then starting the laptop again
happens both with and without AC power
its fairly new just some months old and is covered by warranty but I'd much prefer it if I can solve the problem myself does anyone have any suggestions
Check for bios updates
its up to date, actually the latest bios even created a keyboard problem
sometimes other than macro keys its unresponsive until it goes to deep sleep and wakes up
Sounds like a battery issue (blinking orange is the battery running out afaik)
might be, but when this issue doesnt happen the battery works fine
Electronics are fickle man
One day they're perfect the next day they're a ball of molten plastic and fire
💀
I don't have a clear answer for you, only supposition
there are some posts on some forums about both issues but I also havent seen a clear answer yet
Have you opened it to look
I just opened it to install some extra ram
I tested the rams as well
just in case they are the issue
and both passed memtest
I wouldn't suspect ram
It sounds power related to me
Try if you can carefully
Remove the battery then run off the charger for a while
If it doesn't crop up again you can file rma for a battery problem
ok I'll try that
well RMA is the best option
but I dont know, its also a hassle
if other issues build up I'll do an rma for all issues together
It doesn't sound like normal behaviour so one way or another you're probably in for a long haul here
shouldn't be normal, sometimes literally it makes the 5 second boot 1:30 mins
with that power reset required to pass the issue
I explained it here
and this issue I'm 100% sure that its after the latest bios
I don't want to be that guy but I questioned my asus purchase a lot
G18 sounds incredibly expensive
I know quite a number of people with high end strix laptop issues
its really annoying
I wanted to pay more just to get more quality
well I like the laptop but the issues make me go crazy
Or rather, really a lot of high end laptops in general
But I do hear a lot about strix tho
I stick to mid range now. Life is way better
I guess
well I'm using that laptop rn so its not unusable just sometimes really annoying issues happen
did I even mention the latest armoury crate mess by asus

Ehh
Armoury crate has been great on mine
I've had bad armoury crate not saying I don't believe you
Just sounds like a number of bad luck things
after that windows dynamic lighting plugin update or the xmas one, this LightingService.exe started to spawn handles like crazy
LOL
well what a bad luck bc it was way worse on my desktop
I was running out of ram without even it being visible on task manager
The two prime boards I had, armoury crate was disgusting
But the maximus and crosshair I'm on rn, idk if I'm just lucky or they have a better controller
Not a single problem
Tuf laptop I just run static white so I can see what I'm typing
But I know what it's like when that program is bad
https://rog-forum.asus.com/t5/armoury-crate/faulting-application-aacambientlighting-exe-and-armoury-crate-v5/td-p/980320 this entire post is encountering this problem because of handles, some know the cause and some do not, app crashes are also bc of this
It's REALLY bad when it breaks
the worst thing is like
it wasnt even debuggable
to an extent
process monitor and hwinfo still shows those usages
No it's just sometimes pain
Reminds me of old synapse
Old synapse would sometimes bug out, use 20% cpu
razer synapse for me was one of the best but I started using razer after 2020
This was like years and years ago
Nah long before that
Try 2017
2015
Really old
armoury crate and especially msi center these are the two worst ones imo
I know a lot of people who hate msi center
Including my brother
Yet for some reason, I never had a problem
My problem with msi is the fans
Their fan hysteresis is horrible
Takes a lifetime to ramp up or down
with MSI center I had this issue, sometimes my cpu was getting to 100% without literally no reason, I reserched for hours and saw that for some reason default power plan gets "Idle disabled" which is an invisible power plan element true, after that by luck I encountered msi center resetting this for some reasons
why would this happen it makes 0 sense
Interesting
and yes after deleting msi center the issue was gone
it was the old "dragon center" actually
the one before msi center
There's a funny reason why I like msi
Msi can in fact replace icue
And make icue redundant
To me a huge deal
never stepped into icue thank god
Cos icue is bloaty af
It's a waste of time
Don't ever do it
Their stuff looks understandably nice but that's the whole gimmick
Apart from psu's it's all mid underneath
and much more expensive
Mhm
But that's why I like msi center
You can all in one your corsair stuff with less bloaty software
Bit like open rgb
The razer plugin is bloaty tho
G skill has the same issue with their razer plugin
I set static white and it's using 10% cpu lmfao
wow
The g.skill one is particularly bad
I can't wait until windows standardises all of this
It's off to a decent start
it should be a legal requirement or something
No more nonsense compartment software for each and every brand, just rounded off ambiguity
No court would uphold a christmas light pattern 💀
yeah uh 💀
We've needed standardisation for a while though
Openrgb isn't half bad but can have issues
Signalrgb is good but costs money
I'm worried now that brands will only support new products and not the old ones
I'm thinking the other way imo
Every brand and their dog will want in on that ecosystem
Since MS is the one doing it
technically brands would lose a bit but not much
like MSI finally not advertising norton
It becomes a different ball game when a brand can say it's all windows compatible
it'll definitely be something I'll use in my purchase decisions for sure
I honestly look forward to the day icue dies from this if ever it happens
Pls
Some brands' motherboards will include drivers that you're forced to download and then advertise garbage software that’s nearly impossible to get off your system. Like Asus Armoury Crate and any of its included software
I had to reinstall Windows to get it off
have u tried armoury crate uninstall tool
You can opt out of that in bios
Yeah but it's a good place to control the RGB in my system and to update system drivers sometimes
I only use armoury crate on my desktop for the strix 2070 graphics card (which will be a evga 3080 soon™️)
They have a drivers section. But I think it's just for chipsets and stuff. Stuff that Intel's SupportAssist(?) can take care of. I might stop using Armoury Crate for this lol
I would make the argument armoury crate isn't bad by standards of rgb software, it's quite decent now imo
It's still not perfect
I liked it before that virtual memory issue
But when it works, it works well
thank god after 3 updates its gone now
I thought Armoury Crate was the worst until I saw a friend use MSI's motherboard software
that thing is the worst
I actually have something in my copy paste about dragon center
old msi center
with this "dragon center" I also had this issue, there was this "smart display control" or that sort of feature which back then u couldnt uninstall, this app for some reasons created an error message when I hold down CTRL, I built my pc recently back then and I thought my keyboard has an issue because in games when I hold ctrl all my input used to lock up, then I once realised the tens of error boxes and figured out that its the dragon center, this process ofc took weeks
LOL
I have no reasons to like dragon center at least its now "msi center"
which is way better than that old thing
at least now I dont install unnecessary stuff
Msi center still has quirks
Like it takes 5 minutes to launch
Has some interesting apps tho
"super charger"
I only use that
You might need it installed but not running
oh yeah yeah right
My unify board let me do that
I have it disabled on launch
Wait what about Aura and Armoury Crate?
Fr lol I might get an RGB controller at some point
my experience about that is here
I set static or basic patterns and don't wish for my cpu to be pegged
yeah that exists I completely forgot about that
Thankfully my tuf remembers this setting no matter what
It's lived it's life like this
rn windows dynamic lighting available devices by asus
I HOPE they'll add 2023s as well
2022 pls
shouldnt be that hard to do if they want to add more
I imagine they will add it
The tuf laptops for example haven't evolved much in 3 years
does rgb even evolve
not really, just different sources
oh yeah and per key instead of zones
RGB lighting requires every LED to be the same colour whereas ARGB lighting allows for individual LED control.
I completely forgot which is which
Seem to forget about the third one:
So I looked it up
wtf
He's playing on his switch
and they say interns dont do anything, shame

702030 3.7v 600mah lipo battery. trying to replace the one on the right with the one on the left. dont ask why. ive done it but its not charging, how should i diagnose the issue?
its a link cuz u need a role to post images apparently i thought a embed would work
2 wire and 3 wire batteries shouldn't be interchangeable since they use different methods of measuring the charge level, and would automatically fail to charge.
Thank you for the reply. Could u give some more detail? I wanna know what I’d have to do to help it charge
Interestingly when I connected the 2 wire battery, the software it was connected to measured the charge accurately.
@kindred yacht
what power strip should i buy on amazon for gaming because the one I have looks like it is messing my pc rgb fans a little
Define a little
Yes but define what is happening to the rgb fans
it looks like it changing colors randomly and some of the rgb lights on the fan has only one on and the rest off on all the fans
That sounds, yes power related but possibly something else
An overloaded rgb plug can do that
How much rgb have you got, what's the plug look like
What specific psu have you got and what's your total system specs
Ye you should look into this
For example this can go two directions the way I see it
how do i check the psu?
Processor AMD Ryzen 9 5900X 12-Core Processor, 3701 Mhz, 12 Core(s), 24 Logical Processor(s)
BaseBoard Product ROG STRIX X570-E GAMING WIFI II
#1 psu minor 5v rail is not strong enough for the number of devices (inc. rgb)
#2 the motherboard is overloaded or degraded at a specific plug
oh
Need to open up the pc and find out
Why not
doing something
but i found out
i remember
EVGA - 650 BP, 80+ BRONZE 650W, 100-BP-0650-K1, Power supply
What gpu have you got
amd radeon rx 6600 xt
And it's just 4 fans yes
yes
What fans do you remember
lemme cehck
Ah icue fans
it was 5000x case
Did you buy corsair fans or different
only one for the back
hmm
Or firmware
lemme show you a pic
Sometimes icue messes up BIG time
Or worse the controller fails with time
I've seen both
to all fans
That's bound to be the controller
after i added the back
it was normal for a few months
then randomly this happened
yup
If you still have a warranty on the case, contact corsair
nope
Get them to send a replacement
it expired
I don't want to suggest a corsair controller replacement but it might be in order
You might be able to find it on ebay or aliexpress
its whatever
Maybe amazon
Either way I don't think the powerboard is directly related
Controllers burn out with time
Or something random in the firmware went stuff
Alr
I'm not too brushed up on good powerboards, I'll leave that for someone else
But yeah I think that's more likely what your root is
^^^ if anyone can
Last week I bought a legion 5 slim 15.6 inch I believe with - 4060 & 512 SSD & 16 GB ram . I’m really considering returning it & getting something else like the msi Katana that’s a 17.3 inch & has 1TB SSD & 32 gb ram & a 4060 . It’s almost $200 cheaper than what I paid for the legion 5 at Best Buy . I spent like 1500 there at Best Buy
Should I return & switch for something else
Thr msi laptops are not great but yes return that
1500 for a 4060 laptop is terrible
Hey thanks for responding I’m checking these out now
For any other suggestions I'd ping foxy or felix
They both know laptops far better than I do
@runic timber @chrome dust could you guys give any insight if possible when you have time
I just went back to Best Buy & returned a legion 5 slim15.6 with 16 ram & 4060 & 512 SSD for $1500 im looking at other laptops now
Just game in the refrigerator
I know that's a joke but I just find this funny, that'll actually start a fire
🤣🤣🤣 alrighty no go on them
I would browse r/laptopdeals
Some good models are Zephyrus, tuf, a16, a14, victus
Okay I’ll check into those too
heres the general pricing i would pay based on gpu (assuming your main purpose is gaming)
4060-800-1000
4070-900-1150
4080 1300-1500
rough comparison, and this will vary depending on wattage of the gpu in the laptop
Any ideas for this?
An alternative solution is some way I can just get this type of battery with the right wires but not have to wait months for shipping. Or any way to make it charge with what I have
That's because on the 2 wire battery, one wire handles both the charging and measuring. On the 3 wire those functions are separated.
You might be able to solder an additional wire with the correct impedance resistor to replace the missing third wire but I do not recommend this method.
Google reverse image search says times gate by divoom
What is it used for?
It connects to your phone via app to display things like local weather, it's configurable
does anyone know of any UPS's that can power a CPAP machine for at least 7 hours, 8 hours preferred, and is under $150 cad
i found one that can power one for 12-14 hours but that is $250
more than what my dad is willing to pay
he used to use a jumpstart battery pack with a nema 5-15r on it to power it, but he would sometimes forget to recharge the battery
and also it's dead now since it's over 10 years old
How much wattage does it draw at the wall?
with the power brick, it is rated for 120v 2amp
but the power output maximum is 12v 7amp
i crossposted on a diff server and someone said to look for modem/voip ups's, and i found one from APC, but it wasnt being sold anymore
nvm that one doesnt have enough amperage
only had a dc out, and was 4a
Assuming an average load of 100W at the wall you need a VA rating of at least 5000 to power it for 8 hours and there's definitely nothing that high capacity within budget
it probably only uses 7a when the heater and humidifier is on; it just needs to be able to handle powering that during normal operation, and for emergency power use, with just the ventilator running it probably will be more like 30-40w
https://www.amazon.ca/AIMTOM-Portable-Generator-Emergency-Flashlights/dp/B0791Y1WSQ found this but it probably isnt designed for having it constantly being plugged in
Reviewers with CPAP machines seem to like that for camping and one Q&A answer says it can be used while plugged in
"solar panel not included" on this "solar generator" lmfao
Lmao
One reviewer tested the battery capacity and it seems to be accurate too. They measured 85% of the capacity which is expected with DC to AC conversion.
Looks like the charger charges at 30w
Sounds like the battery would get... Short cycled? Is that the term?
The one I saw said 88W charge rate
It also has a 4 stroke engine apparently so I'd ignore that lol
Lol
also yeah the included charger is 15v2a
Guys what would be the major cause when your pc fans are at over 100% speed, runs for 5 minutes in that state then shuts off completely? Its been about 7 years using that computer and haven’t been gaming for the last 4 years.
repaste / remount the CPU cooler
i would also recommend a can of compressed air to deal with 7 years worth of dust buildup
Would any of yall be able to help me diagnose a problem with my laptop?
Basically, i cant charge my laptop. When i do try to charge my laptop, it still turns on but clearly theres a cutoff where it cant keep the power, ive replaced the battery pack and it clearly can still use the battery but once the battery pack ran out of power it too stopped working without being plugged in. Is there something wrong with the charging port maybe? My mom offered to take it to a place a couple years back and when she did it came back basically worse off, and with eletric tape covering random places and even a spot where they broke the hard drive case.
Heres the guide ive been looking at as well, which includes the model number if that helps
If theres anyone that could help me with this itd be greatly appreciated
Today I want to run ethernet cables through some ducts, I got some cat 5E and 6 cables that range from 5 to 10m, got myself a rj45 socket to avoid having just a cable coming out of the wall. The ducts have 220v cables running in them, could that cause interference? I've got both utp and ftp cables, which ones should I run near live cables?
I also had an older 15m 5e cable, but apparently, I either broke it over time or it was a scam when I bought it because it only runs 100mbps. Pheraps all the twisting caused it to get damaged...
Never run high voltage cable in the same channel as low voltage.
Yes it can cause interference.
What distance would you recommend between the two cables? I can place another duct near the one where the 220v cable runs but that would still be about 3cm away one from the other for the entire run
At this point I guess the shielded cat6 would be best anyways
And is it ok to test the stability of the connection with the two cables running adjacent one to the other?
Official building code states low voltage wiring needs to be a minimum of 1 ft away from high voltage
(0.3m)
Is it for safety purposes? Or is it just recommended for the interference?
Because there has always been a coax running near the 220v cables but maybe that's less subject to interference compared to ethernet cabling...?
Both, and coax is heavily shielded. (most of the thickness is shielding with only a tiny core of metal) Cable installers are notorious for ignoring any kind of code in favor of taking shortcuts.
I cannot run the cables .3m apart, otherwise the 2nd duct would have to be basically an knee height on the wall. Is it ok if I then add another duct below (3cm) and run the cable there? I'm guessing that safety would not be a concern with plastic ducts in between. Testing out the connection can't hurt either
I'm mostly going by what is industry standard and what building code demands. You won't pass a building inspection with high voltage so close to low voltage, but that probably won't matter to you.
Basically, do what you want.
i don't have building inspections anyways, and everything in the house is perfectly made so that it contrasts evry single safety rule, so... no problem at all
ehhehe
Would anyone be able to help me I just got a new ASROCK B550m pro4 with a power spec 500w peer supply both are all new I got to day and have a red light on my motherboard board
Reseat your ram and cpu, also look in the manual to see what that light means
new CD player, record player fits quite comfortably on top 😎
dunno yet, literally just pulled it out of the box and slapped it on the table lol
probably sounds as I would expect, its nothing exquisite
i just didnt have a CD player yet but wanted something cool
its early 90s, ive heard it has a warm sound to it in my research
I need help fast i found a rtx 4070 super pc last night on offer up for 500 and im rethinking meeting today
the guy promoted the listing but supposedly the story is Yes it does. I'll try and take some pics. I'm not the most computer savvy. Bought it for my 6 year old daughter and she doesn't use it and prefers her laptop @oblique gazelle
The pictures are confusing the hell out of me i cant find which prebuilt it is
What is it then ive been searching that
probably a mid-range turing card if i had to guess
Should i ask if he changed the card from the original build
it is gonna be tommorow morning
he tried to do it without a power cord
so hes going to get it from his storage unit to confirm the specs before the meet
@granite haven that is sketchy as all hell
If you haven’t gone through with it, I wouldn’t
OfferUp is a lot of scamming. I used to sell on it and I’d get buying scammers too all the time.
Yea I didn’t do it he stopped answering messages
Do you have any other things in mind instead? I could probably build you something with a 4070
Actually @granite haven check #tech-deals
That’s an astounding deal
Only 10 left, eBay supports buy now/pay later
And it comes with m&k
I’m trying to use the laptop I bought and trying to get money up for a 4080
Pc
if getting your money up is a prerequisite for buying something, you are not in a place financially to properly afford that something
generally speaking
i would suggest re-evaluating what you really need in a computer and keep things as cheap as possible
Forgot to update you on how its going... :P was able to install the cable correctly and had no issues running full speed
I’m looking forward to the job/ jobs I’m training for which would be 3d modeling and game dev
I mean I’m still in school with only a scrap side hustle I’m starting to do the iPhone flipping side hustle
To get more money
tbf a 4070 would be enough lol
I go overkill sometimes
I buy always a step further then what’s required In the case I actually need the extra performance
I mean I’m stock piling hard drives and ram ram technically can’t sell untested so I’m getting the chips off for gold recovery and the hard drives I have a tester cable and I would do the testing required to sell them
Should I trust flat ethernet cables? I need a (at least) cat6 cable for a 20-22m run.
I found one on aliexpress, 25m, flat cable, cat6 for €10. Should I?
Otherwise I have to spend 20+ euros on Amazon
Personally not a fan but they do work
They should work at the rated speed.. hopefully
Can someone list me the speeds you get for each ethernet cable category? Based on the lentgh of the cables too, thanks In advance
Ethernet over twisted-pair technologies use twisted-pair cables for the physical layer of an Ethernet computer network. They are a subset of all Ethernet physical layers.
Early Ethernet used various grades of coaxial cable, but in 1984, StarLAN showed the potential of simple unshielded twisted pair. This led to the development of 10BASE-T and it...
exactly what i was looking for, thank you
Does anyone know how to view version history of drivers/firmware on Dell's site? It's a pain searching up each potential version of a firmware/driver in the browser just to get update logs, or install older version.
Should be like 5 - 6 firmware versions for DWF but I can only ever find the newest (same deal for any other Dell product I've searched recently-ish)
CD player wit da 240p GUI
you brought this to my attention and idk how to update my displays drivers
firmware*
Most displays almost never get firmware updates and arent user updateable. Some displays have drivers, but still usually dont get updates.
Usually only higher end ones do get user downloadable stuff, to fix some feature like HDR
my monitor has a firmware update available
i downloaded it and went to dells website to see the update process and this is very confusing
my Dell G2722HS
Usually you'd copy that to a USB drive and plug that into the monitor
Or use the manufacturer's software, but I don't think dell has that
Dell is saying stuff like to plug an upstream usb into the monitor and connect it to the computer
I see a driver for that monitor but no firmware update
It probably is a driver and I misread it
figured it out
They do, but most likely restricted to high end monitors
USB from PC to monitor
The OLED models don't count lol
They basically NEEDED those updates to be usable day to day
I mean hey, I did say high end monitors
I'm not
you came to the wrong guy
How much could I sell a 1240p mx550 laptop for
Basically new condition, lenovo something or other

laptop repastes imo are arguably the easiest ones imo
imo imo
it's usually really straightforward as long as you map where all the screws go
much less risk to it too, unlike a gpu for example
only thing that worries me is normally the clamshell
laptop interals are very hit or miss, some of them (like dell, i love you dell) are like legos and its so nice doing repairs on even compared to pcs
dell only has it easier on their work models
otherwise not really

Wondering y'all's opinion on a power supply for a pinecil V2.
I basically have 3 options. A 65w bench top from pine themselves, which has the perk of being self grounded for ~$40, a cheap laptop charger that does 65w for ~$20, or an epr brick that does ~120-140w for $50 or so. Wondering if getting epr is really worth it for a little extra wattage on general use stuff

I am trying to figure out a plug and play solution (plug and play after setup, I don't mind writing scripts and such to set it up) for streaming video to like, zoom or YouTube, and also have a local recording, with as little human input as possible because the people using this system is not tech literate at all (they don't even know how to start a zoom meeting apparently) and I'm unavailable to help them set it up when they are using it
Current system is streaming to zoom, maybe I'll try to get them to stream to youtube
The setup will need to be able to support a usb camera (I also want them to upgrade to a camera with an actual good sensor, or to borrow the camera used by the owner of the building) for picture in picture
