It's still a bit of a mess. Especially with anti cheat.
Disable your secure boot and it will fail to update if it does try to go to 24H2.

That way you'll still get other updates too

I've been trying to get networking drivers installed on the thinkpd r40 running xp32 bit but none worked.
both ethernet and wifi have driver issues. ethernet adapter is the default one embedded in the laptop which should be Intel 82562EZ, wifi card is an intel pro wlan 2100 3b i installed (and bypassed using no1802 fix). I tried a few drivers for both devices but they don't work. anyone kind enough to find me compatible drivers?

Linux expects UTC time in the BIOS and then translates that inside the OS. Microsoft expects the opposite. It wants BIOS to have the local time.

Even though it will officially be end of life, critical updates usually continue for a few years. They're still updating Windows 7. It's the surrounding software mostly that gets "more insecure" as time goes on as more flaws are discovered.

New problem(s) with the Windows side of the new build.

The front USB-C connector seems to be inoperable. I'm not sure if I plugged it in wrong or didn't seat it right, but I tried both orientations and pushed it in a little (in neither case did I feel or hear a positive click) I'm afraid to apply too much pressure for fear of breaking things. I don't see any obvious damage in the socket or connector, but I'm a little concerned I might have already borked it up a little.

Additionally, a pair of the same brand USB SSDs are not recognized by Windows 11 on the new machine. They do appear when I plug them into a Windows 10 and Linux Mint machine. It doesn't matter if I use USB-A or USB-C (tried in the MOBO). For whatever reason, it just doesn't see these two. I just tested a bunch of USB flash drives and HDDs and all are recognized perfectly fine. It's specifically the USB SSDs that aren't being recognized.

They're Gigastone P500s if that helps.

Unstable internet can be a problem, but the driver package will warn you before it installs if that's the case.
You can uninstall both in the same boot.
Defaults are fine.
Test safe mode probably means it's checking if it's in the correct mode.

I have an (2 year old; I made a mistake earlier) hp laptop and i did the test for it and it said the quality of the ssd wear is 6 percent and that it's 94 percent away from being worn down but the ssd test failed. tldr one test passed while the other failed which made no sense. I did do the ddu thing above which didn't really solve my driver issues/BSODs. I don't understand if somehow my ssd is causing the BSODs DPC Watchdog Violation, Video Memory Management Internal, and Driver Power State Failure Errors of if it's my drivers at this point.

I also tried to do an check for windows shell experience since I saw it was suspended in my taskbar following the cmd's from this link:https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windowserver/forum/all/what-is-windows-shell-experience-and-why-do-i-get/68d79375-44c8-40e1-ae0a-1c576eb7b31d but the progress bar got stuck after i did the restorehealth cmd so I stopped cmd prompt. The SMART failure popped up somtimes around afterwards when I restarted my computer.

I'm thinking of maybe trying to do a system restore because DDU I'm pretty sure had in one of the checkboxes that it makes a system restore point to see if that'll solve this new problem that popped up otherwise I was planning on going to like microcenter or smth and just ask for help. Does anyone know why I can't install windows 11 on my ssd? I used windows installation media and put it on a flash drive. Whats better for someone trying to get into something new onshape or fusion 360? Are the skills learned from one transferable to the other? I want to design a PC case. I know i can do it on paper and have a much easier time but this is also just about learning something new not just getting the result. Industry still uses solidworks and some companies are moving towards Fusion/Inventor. I would reccomend starting out in Fusion because most stuff will transfer to solidworks if needed, and it's very easy to get a free license as a student or hobbyist

I'm setting up a pc before selling it. I originally installed windows 10 in English, then changed display language to Italian and copied administrative stuff for language to new oobe and new users so that those would also be in Italian upon setup. sysprep won't work anymore and errors due to inconsistencies with language packs.
I've had this problem before and figured out reinstalling in the desired language is a good idea.
do any of you know if it's actually fixable once sysprep is broken due to system languages?

Issue started happening a few days after I flew from Alaska to Mexico (Play del Carmen) and a massibe power outage happened.

Forgot to update you, so long story short is the problem is indeed the PSU, it for whatever reason just can't handle large power spikes anymore and what was happening is that my CPU kept tripping the damn thing. I have put a bandaid on the situation by power limiting my CPU to 200W.

So, my laptop is old. it runs fine, but it didn't officially support Windows 11 so in 2023 i bypassed it with rufus and all has been well. But i've come to the realization that my laptop has not updated with any major windows 11 updates since December 12th of last year.

The only way for me to get on the newer versions of W11 that i know of (which, despite the AI slop i would like to for the latest security patches and bug fixes etc) would be for me to completely wipe my laptop and then reinstall bypassed windows 11 again, causing me to lose all of my things. the main stuff im worried about are the TONS of mods i have across a couple of games, for one being assetto corsa which is a PAIN in the butt to set up, and i do not want to go through it all again.

So, i guess TL;DR, is there any way for me to get on the later versions without having to completely wipe my laptop, or am i cooked?

I would clone the SSD to the hdd so you have a copy of everything, wipe the SSD, install fresh windows onto the ssd

it is better than running systems that are out of service for years potentially posing security risks. I believe this is a dialog box option you are looking for in rufus. the reason why many older systems can't use win11 is due to the tpm requirement on the CPUs

I think z270 is Intel Kaby Lake (7th gen)? still usable today but TPM 2.0 was only supported on 8th gen and after so just misses it. ofc there are still these work arounds

Rufus works, I've used it for years without issues. although I've seen some people complain about them not being transparent about about the WUE options (dialog box in the screenshot)? Because these kinds of options do modify the registry and some people don't like that.
There is the other option where you can opt for a Linux distro instead of windows if playing games is most of what you do. That said there is a learning curve to that and not everything is nicely supported yet

I'd try just using a windows installer USB. It might be that you'll need to wipe the drive and delete partitions first but you might as well try just the USB and see if it works

if you can afford the space to keep both OSes on the same drive I'd say go for it. not a huge problem having more than 1 os on the same drive but shrinking an existing windows drive might not be the easiest thing to do depending on your system. Info on that can be found typically in the distros documentation. The reason many don’t suggest using same drive is because of this:

“Dual booting Windows and Linux is not 100% reliable. Windows updates can break the bootloader by overwriting the EFI partition. In some cases, issues might never occur, but for some users it can be a recurring problem.”

One other thing I saw a note somewhere saying nobara’s kernel doesn’t support secure boot? Can be a dealbreaker if some app or anticheat you use in windows requires it. But maybe there is another way around it?
