You can get 2000 8 8 8 24 corsair dominator GT for $35 a stick on ebay rn
elpida hyper IC
Hello 😄 I have a question
I have this GPU - "Gigabyte AORUS GeForce GTX 1080 Ti Xtreme Edition 11GB Graphic Cards GV-N108TAORUS X-11GD "
In the product detail it says "Built for Extreme Overclocking 12+2 Power Phases. Support up to 8K display at 60Hz"... What does it even means lol. I just found about MSI Afterburner - can I do it with it? I just want some extra fps lol
yes you can use msi afterburner
Why is it saying it was built for extreme overclocking? I can get barely 5% (just asking :D)
did you crank the power limiter all the way up?
xtreme
i have an EVGA RTX 2060 XC Ultra, and I was wondering if my 2055 MHz boost lock after overclocking (highest i could get with stability) is considered normal, low, or high.
1995-2055 is pretty much the range so its on the high side of whats possible
@quartz moon it'll overclock as well as you can cool it
I mean... not always. LN2 cooling keeps things pretty damn chilly but you still get to a point where the hardware just can't do what you ask of it. :p
moar voltage
Kinda cringe tbh
overclocking ram, especially nowadays makes a big difference
but that might change with DDR5
DDR5 might just be too fast
Sounds dangerous
samsung already makes ddr6
just no use case atm
and no im not confusing gddr6
and their ddr5 is like 4,800Mbps which is crazy
They gotta wait till the rest of the tech catches up though
moores law always holds up
I want to overclock my ryzen 5 2600x a little bit and need a decent but cheap cooler so I can control temps better than the wraith stealth cooler. Any suggestions
gammaxx 400
I've got a kit of RAM that can either do 3600 CL17 or 3200 CL14, what should I set it at for Ryzen 3000?
3600c17
I'd honestly go for some $50 scythe dual tower like a mugen? or ninja? over a gammax 400 , they're all solid
Gammax 400 is for when you have a $20 budget and just need a cooler, any cooler
Mugen 5 rev b is good, but tbh gammaxx 400 is just so omni-purpose
for lower end chips imo
yeah but does gammaxx give u a cool magnetic screwdriver
@swift sphinx I went ahead and cranked it up to +200
@swift sphinx testing 4K ultra crashed
4k
Trying +190 now
Resident Evil 2 Remake 4K Ultra
It's my favorite game of all time
Might of just been directX 12 crashing though
Lol
k
So I was going to send a pic of my cpu bios but I’m not able to so I’m just gonna say this idk what all this stuff means in the bios, kinda a bios dumby
well you could take a picture of it with your phone or type it out to us if you need help with it
Like take a pic of it then type out what the pic says
lol or take a pic get on discord on your phone and send us the pic
oh my bad yeah had to wait til your name turned green its a timed thing in this server
what do you need to know?
I would turn off PSS support, NX Mode and SVM mode and leave SMT at auto and leave the fTPM at disabled
XMP looks good if its stable
What do those things do
PSS support is power saving stuff NX mode is like a wierd coding thing that can steal part of your RAM SVM mode is for running a virtual machine SMT is multithreading fTPM is some network thing
you dont have to mess them everything should work just fine with them as they are
its just what I would do
Honestly,AMD cpus are weird..i got a ryzen 2700 non x and for it to go on max boost i had to ramp up the voltage to 1.425
I think same goes for me, I think I could undervolt it tho
I cant,i tried 1.4 it crashes instantly
Though i got a powerhouse of a cooler that keeps it at 60 c on full load
Though my psu sounds like a diesel engine after i applied the clock profile😂😂😂
cool cool
Is my cpu the only one that as soon as they turned on their pc the cpu automatically over clocked
I got a 2600x
I'm not an expert, but I think that's part of an x series chip
How come?
https://www.amazon.com/MSI-B550M-PRO-VDH-ProSeries-Motherboard/dp/B089D1YG11 is this motherboard over clock comabtiable?? (i cant spell at all)
yes
Okay
My non x chip is overclocked out of box. Has to do with BIOS
pretty much all chips these days are "overclocked" out of the box if you're thinking its going to run at base clock instead....
base clock is just a measurement to get the BS tdp value
@dull ginkgo its stable at 45 c in AAA games and it stays at 64 on 100%,with out any sudden crashes or any system laggs
anybody overclocked the ryzen 5 5600x yet?

Would a x390 p prime handle an i7 9700k overclocked to 4.5ghz
anyone have experience overclocking a 2070?
or experience overclocking RYZEN cpu using gigabyte MOBO software tools
some rookie tips?
i've learned today not to settle til my case sounds like a leaf blower and im edging a system malfunction
how many fans do i need for a overclocked 5600xt
cant really add fans to the gpu
other than case fans out the wazoo theres thing you can do other than watercooled
maybe you could just (please dont) hook up some fans and set them on the psu shroud to cool off the system to move the air around
@spice cedar just mess around with it
I couldn't get much core clock out of mine, but got up to like +1200mhz vram stable
I’m boosting 1150mhz vram running stably with 175mhz core overclock
Mainly need help navigating my cpu overclock. Wish it was as easy as gpu clocking
Cpu OC is easier than GPU OC for me lel
It's easier for me to test CPU stability than GPU stability
Kombustor is good for stress tests
I just want to mainly mess around with my dram clock speeds; I’m on amd cpu
Ye, I just don't like how they're full screen
As in I like doing p95 windowed rq to test stability, and not have to be forced to watch something for stability
kombustor has a full lineup of windowed stress tests and benchmarks at multiple resolutions up to 4k. on another note, if it can run it stably under full load for 10 minutes it can go forever, right?
@dull ginkgo i watch heaven 4.0 for the plot 😤 not for gpu stability
true but timespy has the best boss fight episode
lol, the cpu test is pretty choppy on all but hedt
lol it dips to like 15-20 fps on my 2600x iirc
lowest my 3900xt gets is 45 fps 😂
yall just wait till i can get my hands on a 5900x
fire strike best plot
Hello so I recently overclocked my ram to 4000mhz and it was fine for a few hours then my game that I was playing crashed and went to a blue screen, after that my pc reset and it wouldn’t boot into windows. I tried CMOS but it wouldn’t do it and now I’m kinda stuck, does anyone have an idea ?
did you stress test the ram?
No I did not, I didn’t know I was supposed to do that
You've successfully made your OS into swiss cheese
lmao
You've successfully made your OS into swiss cheese
@tall pelican what do you mean lol
Did I kill my pc 😅. What would be my next step
reinstall your OS
I see, but it won’t even boot into bios so what do I do from there
whats a safe oc for G.Skill Ripjaws V 16 GB (2 x 8 GB) DDR4-3200 CL16 Memory
other then the x-mp obv
@quick quail explain "how" in exact detail you reset your CMOS?
@hard ice Turned off my pc, took out power cord from my psu, took the moba battery out for 5 minutes and then I put the battery back in and put the power cord back on and turn on the pc
does anyone know the extent to which ram overclocking impacts stability
like if I ran a bunch of memory tests could I be reasonable confident there is low error rate
https://www.newegg.com/team-64gb-288-pin-ddr4-sdram/p/N82E16820331496?Item=N82E16820331496
^ This is the RAM I have, I was able to get it for $170 on sale. I think it is Samsung b-die but I can't confirm.
^ This is my motherboard. I have heard that itx is better for overclocking because it only has 2 slots, but I don't have any experience
@wicked sapphire idrk
like i been trying to oc
but its wayy to unstable
so
i suggest
no ocing it
and just leave xmp on
i mean for me my ram is unstable with xmp
so
make sure with xmp, ur dram voltage is at standard
or higher
1.4v didnt work for me
so u can try 1.35
or stanard
does anyone know what chipset g-skill ripjaws V runs on? trying to use a Dram calculator
@wicked sapphire that has nothing to do with chipset
and dram calc does ask for mobo chipset
but it is much more likely they don't know the name of the dram chips than they don't know the motherboard chipset, which is usually in the name of the motherboard
@wicked sapphire I'm saying, Dram calculator doesn't have a field that asks for anything about ram chipset.
What it does, is ask for Mobo chipset.
I think you are being pedantic about the word "chipset," I think they mean to ask about the name of the dram chip used on their ram
also
it does ask for motherboard chipset but it doesn't use the word chipset in the verbage
@wicked sapphire Dram calc has like 10 different versions, each having a different interface.
And I see no possible link between any of the other fields and chipset.
all I'm saying is someone posting in the overclocking channel of a Discord server full of people who know how to build a gaming computer asking about memory overclocking probably knows what chipset their motherboard is running and is much less likely to know which dram chips their ram uses, given this informaiton is often not even available from the manufacturer
@wicked sapphire breh
they might be calling dram chips "chipset" even if it is not the technically correct term
That's implying they're capable of reading the manual
Because last time I checked
the readme.txt that comes with dram calc tells you to use typhoon burner
And this assumption just doesn't make sense to me
it's still much more likely they know what chipset their motherboard is
it is literally on the box and something you research when choosing your cpu
@wicked sapphire then why didn't they just click help and read?
:P
People are illogical
If they're in here asking a simple question
there's some misunderstanding somewhere
I happen to have 1.6.2 installed, but right up there, Help button :P
Anyways, it's still much more likely to me they're asking about Motherboard, than it is calling "Memory Type" a chipset
I don't think it's terribly difficult to get "dram chip" mixed up with "chipset," I was just suggesting you might be misinterpreting the question
And I am suggestion you might be misinterpreting the question.
Either way, there is wrong terminology in there.
man DRAM calc be so safe on them freq to timings
even on fast present for 3800MT/s timings be 16-16-16-16. iirc most standard bin Bdie can do those timings at 4000MT/s
can you guys help me out with how well this motherboard is for overclock? :ASRock B550 Pro4 ATX AM4 Motherboard
fine
lmao
thanks man
im just tryna figure out if i can/how well i can
im gonna run with a ryzen 5 3600
@elfin ridge For overclocking, simple answer is you want to look for b-die. Use this as needed. Good kit that's known for good b die is Team Dark Pros.
https://benzhaomin.github.io/bdiefinder/
Find Samsung B-Die DDR 4 memory kits on Amazon, Newegg and many more.

micron e/b die is good for the price
micron 16gbit revb is good, 8gbit is garbage
i almost bricked my system last night trying to tune my ram timings. have a few questions about some specific mobo settings i could use some help with.
gigabyte is the MoBo manufacturer, and there are two areas in the BIOS config for tinkering with DRAM timings. One is under a "tweak" tab, while the other is under "settings"> "amd overclocking". the die type on my dram is hynix cjr/djr i believe.
advice for overclocking a laptop gpu should i do anything different than what i would do on a desktop or no
the process isn't different, but you have to be much more conscious of thermals
Reason: Duplicated text
does anyone have a asus 3090 tuf w/ beta bios installed? i need copy of the rom plz
rom?
he is talking about a bios dump
PBO
what is that?
Precision Boost Overdrive (PBO) is a powerful new feature of the 2nd Gen AMD Ryzenâ„¢ Threadripperâ„¢ CPUs.1 Much like traditional overclocking,
anyone use colful bios? little more uplift than gaming oc 390w vs 400w
rtx what
Quadro RTX 8000
6000 for a graphics card
is this overclocking???
i dont do anything it just does it itself
So CTR says that if cant detect ryzen master or somthing (it says RM is not installed or out of date) but I have the most recent version off AMD's website
Help
I want to test my sample quality
Cpu is Ryzen 7 2700x
How do I overclock my power supply
not sure if CTR works for 2nd gen
@visual zodiac the thing is, you have to check, but I'm pretty sure they made the software for Zen 2, not Zen+
:)
How do I overclock my power supply
@grim beacon
There is a way
Be quite actually released a psu that's overclock able
should i overclock my laptop
laptop thermals might make that a lil more difficult to do
I would like to overclock but having a Dell board makes me unable to.
if you have amd just use ryzen master
Dell board prob meaning intel with locked chip
I have a intel
but that thing is so old
but it is a beast. It's been sitting in my basement for about 6 to 8 years.
i mean if you want a super serious power supply overclock all you gotta do is flip that switch in the back from 220 to 110 and live in europe
wouldnt recommend though since that would not only total a bunch of stuff in your case but also likely cause a fire
just buy a better powersupply instead of overclocking it, power supplies are not the place to skimp on funds
Power supplies run more efficiently on 240v
every time you increase voltage you also reduce power loss at a 1:10 ratio
Every time you reach 1.4 volts an Angel dies.
@dark ferry what about Samsung b die at 1.55v on XMP >:P
Just the CPU.
fair
RAM has Gnomes not Angels.
but also voltage set at 1.4 can be ~1.35v get
Real World Die Sense Only
yas
you prob only need to jump to 1.4
Guys do you have a tutorial or guide to overclock or improve the performance of my RTX2060, please?

how do I overclock an i7 10700k?

no u
for a light overclock of a ryzen 3 3200g in a b550 mother how much cooling do i need? case has two fans.
Ryzen master auto overclock
wut
@torpid notch what's your mobo?
@proven canopy ive been told to ask you about helping me overclock eventually
would you be down for that?
not not
much later on
Feel free to post any questions here
like around either the end of the year or january
i plan on overclocking my gpu, cpu, and ram for the first time
im scared
@torpid notch what's your mobo?
@cobalt hearth I got asus rog strix z490-e
Why should I overclock?
What that?
Won't it make your CPU die sooner?
eh
if you put way too much voltage and also cant cool it adequately
how do you tell if a cpu is overclockable? (intel(r) pentium(R) cpu 987 1.5GHz)
how do you tell if a cpu is overclockable? (intel(r) pentium(R) cpu 987 1.5GHz)
@sterile flame No it isnt
rip
what are people seeing for ocs on 5600x?
and temps?
I am new to AMD cpu OCing. I know on my old intel system increasing voltages other than vcore can stabilize the system. Are there any good guides that are applicable to the new architecture yet?
leave it stock, or enable pbo
ok yeah I didn't see that big of a boost over stock in the few benches I ran except a multithreaded cinebench run
I wanna buy a cheap old intel cpu one-day and delid it and stuff and overclock it as much as I can for fun
how do i overclock my ram
I recommend watching a youtube video that uses your motherboard BIOS. The method I found for myself at least was to use a program that'll detect every spec of your RAM and calculate a good OC for you. Then set voltage at 1.4v, increase the RAM speed to what you want or until it crashes. Save the speed number, set speed to the one that is stable enough/what you want, lower the cas latency, or just stick with CAS16, and then you can take timings from the RAM calculator program
alright, do you know good programs for that?
@winter lintel https://gyazo.com/6218b9ac386ec2c51b2c28bb68027e61 i used cpu-z
Mine was Ryzen DRAM calculator and Thaiphoon
off of the info i sent, what should i get from it?
you'll understand your ram better with this than going to dram calc
Anything that works and is easy for you will be fine ig
dram calc is 50/50 of it actually working, and if it does work, 50/50 that its stable
overclokcing help with 7900x?

did you even check the wiki index?
hmm, to be fair, the skylake-x oc guide here is a bad link https://www.reddit.com/r/overclocking/wiki/cpu/intel#wiki_lga_2066_.28skylake-x.29
r/overclocking: All things overclocking go here. Learn to overclock, ask experienced users your questions, boast your rock-stable, sky-high OC and …
(that's 2-3 clicks from the wiki index link in pins)
What
Oh I’m dumb
I forgot that dual channel shows 1/2 tour speed
Your
I’m dumb
unless its samsung bdie ram it prob wont overclock well, and its not the end of the world, not much performance gains on oc ram
your lows will be slightly higher, may open up alittle on top end but vs stability and extra heat and power to the ram
micron has some good overclocking dies
its 50/50 ya know
Does anyone here have a good price to performance recommendation for an aio pump or heatsink cpu cooler for overclocking a ryzen 5 3600? preferably black?
Check out the bequie tdark rock pro 4
Should i buy a R5 3600 and overclock it, or pay an extra $30 CAD for the 3600X?
It comes down to whether or not $30 is worth a few hundred (at most) extra mhz as well as a slightly better stock cooler
ok then thank you
check the cost of the 3600xt
in the US its pretty much the same price as the 3600x
so anyone have successful 3090 bios flash gains?.. i put 2x 8 pin card and flashed gigabyte gaming oc onto it and scores went up pretty well
id like to put the aorus master on but 3 and 3 hdmi/displayport im worried will lose all outputs
is the automatic overclocking of Nvidia any good?
yes
someone knows a place where i can compare OC settings for a 2060 super?
thanks
I have a question I overclocked a i7 9700k but every time I try to load up it goes to the Home Screen and runs something for 20 seconds then blue screens I’ve never had this issue and I have literally no idea what could be wrong
I overclocked it to 5000 MHz
what voltage?
Is the boost lock option in Precision x1 a fool proof way of overclocking? I have a 2080 ti xc ultra but i have never oc anything.
I can't wait to get a 5900x
I'm going to overclock the snot out of it
Full fabric and clock increase, memory timing optimizations.
I have an Arctic Freezer II 360mm, so I should have more than enough thermal headroom to get quite a clock going.
once I get a 3080
I think I'm going to set up an open loop for it, put another 360mm in there.
Then I'll probably see how close to 3ghz I can get with it. Probably not very close, AMD is the one to try that for.
well, good luck
given that stock core is the best core, gl with it 😂
so i got the oc version of the zotac 3070 but what does this mean? how is it better from the original zotac 3070
it has slightly higher clock speeds out of the box

@steel zephyr bro wyd where's the ln2 pot
Any tips on overclocking ram? My stuff is stupid under speed by default
I need help overclocking meh toaster
im looking to see the tdp of the i3 10100f when its at 4.3 ghz
It was for the Daz Studio Iray - Rendering Hardware Benchmark. Apparently I was the first to complete it in under 60 seconds.
@dull ginkgo using the CPU to assist in rendering slows down the benchmark results and gives a worse score.
Really?
Interesting
@steel zephyr I was joking about no LN2 pot on the GPU lel
also, maybe you should try chilled and just put the rad in a bucket of ice :P
I still need waterblocks for the 3090 FTW3 cards.
So is that two 3090's and two 2080 ti's lol damn
Should try running https://hwbot.org/benchmark/gpupi_-_1b/
Are you interested in competitive benchmarking? The 2020 country cup is currently going on on hwbot @steel zephyr
Both 3090 and 2080ti are useless in CC no?
Not for the port royal stage
Oh right
Port royal is just going to be aussies subbing ln2 5 mins before CC ends 💤
So like every country cup stage?
Yes lmao
Hwbot needs to have something like "benchmark date must be within x days of submission"
Reason: Bad word usage
pp
@proven canopy I submitted my Port Royal score, but a GTX 1080 ti isn't going to take us 'mericans very far...
Looks good, I'm just submitting every benchmark I have hardware for. I'm setting up my AM4 bench for Time Spy right now.
What's your hwbot username? lmk if you wanna join the team usa chat
I'm Solid State Alchemy on hwbot
@proven canopy sure I'd love to join, not sure I'll really contribute much, but I'd like to learn.
woah, you have a 4x gtx 690 sub?
Noooo, that was a an error.
For some reason 3dmark read ot as four
It's 2
I sent an email to support to get it taken down.
I'd like to resubmit at 2 though.
ah
Still, getting 2 gtx 690s to play nice was no picnic.
I bet
@proven canopy I'm hoping I can get a decent time spy score here, but my bench is being... Picky
just need graphics score, cpu score doesnt matter
Sure, unless the whole thing BSODs...
It says 4x because 690s are already two cards put together, aren't they?
yes @vapid berry
how do you overclock an i5? is there a software i may use by doing so
is it possible to run a cpu at lower clock speeds
cause i wanna run my 3990x at 50mhz
it's an i5-5350U
even if it was a k chip i probably wouldnt overclock a laptop
lol
wym
it's -2C outside
ah nice
@proven canopy Is there a AM3+ OC guide available?? My GF PC has a Phenom ii x4 955 Black Edition with 16gb of RAM. Ive read I can get it to 3.8ghz with a decent cooler which she has I also know I will have to OC the RAM and thats fairly easy enough to do its more the settings for the CPU Im wondering about so I dont accidently cook it
I have no experience there, but I'd read around overclock.net forums, the hwbot forums, and the pinned overclocking wiki to get started
Yeah The Pinned OC Guide is for Zen+ and Zen2 OC settings
Did you read it https://www.reddit.com/r/overclocking/wiki/cpu/amd
r/overclocking: All things overclocking go here. Learn to overclock, ask experienced users your questions, boast your rock-stable, sky-high OC and …
Yeah I got confused. I just got it through Trial and error since her motherboard had preset settings for the OC in the OC Tweaker in the BIOS. I got it stable at 3.6ghz and the RAM clocked at 1600mhz Dual Channel so for an effective 3200mhz
@proven canopy ^^^^
That's not how ram works, but that's a good am3+ config imo

Finally you post in here @ yosarian
Yeah I forgot @proven canopy sorry. Been a long 2 days and had a brain fart
running my 10920x 4.9@1.345v all core, no errors so far on occt sse, once I set that I'm gonna move on to my avx offsets
of course right as I say that it starts erroring tf out
nah, you just can't link links
but check that score
you have to be level 3
oh
9615 off a 2060S and 2700X
2700 isnt OCed but the gpu tho she cooking
hello?
any tips to push it more
thats my settings in afterburner sorry for no hyperlink not being able to post pics until lvl 3 is lame
whats the highest "safe" voltage i can operate my 2700x on?
@visual zodiac research around, it differs from chip to chip, with zen 2 you can check by just using PBO and seeing what the chip gives itself in terms of voltage, but zen+ is a bit different
Don't think zen+ does that but to check @visual zodiac when letting itself boost, run P95, and see what voltages it goes to under load.
ah ok
well 4ghz on 1.4v is ultra stable
all core
surprised my pc hasnt crashed yet
wow 81.25 degrees C
small ftt
65 degrees if i test on blend mode
Test with smallfft not blend
Anyways
Whatever voltage if you left it on stock and smallfft, should be the highest safe for your chip
1.38v if you can keep load temps under 70c, otherwise 1.33v
Anyone good with memory overclocking?
I’m on a z390 (t topology) with 2400 cl15 trident z. Trying to figure out the best value way to get 32gb
Whether that be just buying another 2x8 kit and overclocking or selling the old and starting fresh
What IC are they? Check with thaiphoon burner
It’s Hynix A die if that’s what you’re asking
afr, so might be able to do 3000c15-16
also check the 042 code on the stick labels, since thaiphoon will always read afr for 8gbit hynix
I’ll give it a shot, thanks
@cold jolt Last time it got cold here, I put my PC outside on my back patio with the side panels off and ran the keyboard, mouse, and monitor cables inside and closed the sliding glass door most of the way to run a few benchmarks.
so for a 2060S what would you guys recommend to push my oc a little further i have hit a road block in what i can do my self
this is my current settings
https://www.3dmark.com/3dm/53481012? this is the score to beat
any help greatly appreciated
Quite good, bit there is a point where you can't do much more with just tweaking clocks
Reason: Bad word usage
it will hold just long enough to do the Time spy run
no visual glitches or anything tho
the card just crashes
if i lower it just a tad its stable enough to game on
according to user bench i beat a 2070 and are close to a 2070S
i got one run where i got 117% on there but haven't been able to replicate it but for that run it was faster than stock 2070S by 1 or 2 %
my guess is link to bench or it didn't happen
I want to overlook my phone
Just go to a gas station and leave you phone at the pump and bam overlooked
@dusty gulch 3dmark wise, you're basically the same score as my slightly OCed 2070
https://www.3dmark.com/spy/9792568
Graphics score
I just checked I slightly beat it daym
Yea
At some point I'll get to GPU OCing, that's just a haphazard OC with the auto oc or whatever it's called on MSI afterburner with a mem oc slapped on lel @dusty gulch
well now that's just a flat out lie
if it has samsung vram, it has a higher chance of doing 1000+ on the mem, but hynix/micon definitely not
happy thanksgiving love you all 🥰
I mean
mine did 1400 mem 'stable' but it was a hit to performance
@dusty gulch I found ~600-800 to give me to best performance
Gotcha I'll try that
@dull ginkgo
My sister playing alyx on my system
Wires are allover the place but the air flow is great in there
That's the case it's great but I think it got discontinued
Nice
anyone here
could i get some help im trying to show my friend how to OC his ram but i cant find where to do it for him
hey guys. i went into my bios and set my ram speed to 3000 and then i restarted and it shut on and off twice and then i checked the speed and it was still at 2133. Do you know why?
i changed the voltage and everything
@marsh hemlock search up a video on youtube with your motherboard
@steel palm Did you just enable xmp? What are your ram specs?
Whats the best anyone has done here so far with memory on Zen3? Debating if I should pick up a ddr4 4000 kit or not.
iirc AMD claims a new agesa update will let you run 2000mhz fclk
Did you manage to pick up a zen3 chip?
Yeah I walked in Microcenter on Tu and they had 10 5900x in stock and a ton of 3070s so got an Asus KO 3070 as well until I can get a darn 3090
Actually got 2 cards going out and in so the wife could upgrade.
Grabbed a msi b550 tomahawk and using a crappy 18-19-19-39 3600 64gb kit for now since I had it on hand.
Nice, wish I could get my hands on a 5900x at msrp
It was pure luck, I went in to get a new m2 drive and saw the cpus and was like please sir take my $$$
I went this morning hoping for a 3090 and was told no truck today due to yesterday being a holiday but they are expecting a few 3080s and 90s tomorrow and a big zen3 shipment so if you got a store local maybe it will be the same..... I'm going to go one last time before I give up till next year lol
Nearest one to me is ~90 miles unfortunately
@tough hound yes I did and my specs are 2x8gb 3000 hrtz
Depending on the ram kit you may not be able to overclock
Keep it at 3000 and it should boot fine
which i did twice and it didnt work
Are you on a 300 series motherboard for amd?
@tough hound
I don't know without more info
what more info do you need?
Your specific RAM kit, and what BIOS settings you are changing, and the stable frequency that it boots at.
Corsair Vengeance RGB Pro 16 GB (2 x 8 GB) DDR4-3000 CL16 Memory
this is the video I followed
Setting RAM speed above default on Asrock B450 motherboard by low Q
and the stable frequency it boots at is 2133
@tough hound
how would I do that
Turn XMP off, set frequency to 3000mhz, and try to boot
if that doesn't work, might need to manually do timings instead of auto
theres only auto no off
if you search up the video you can look at my bios
oh then leave it on auto
and boot it to 3000?
And below it, at frequency, manually set it to 3000
In general, you should only be changing one setting at a time
So you can narrow down why it is having issues
Reset your bios with cmos if necessary
i did some more testing and nothing
i dont know why
it could be my sticks of ram and i could get some new ones soon
Could be.
this guy is smart, listen to them
is this the best place to discuss optimizing all the stuff in my pc?
like getting everything to run the best it can?
@heavy bramble This is the place to do a lot of research before you break something 😂
👀
has anyone here added voltage trim pots to a 1080ti/titan x pascal/titan xp
i picked up a titan xp for a good deal and i've gone into some big aircooling for it
raijintek morpheus ii, backplate from an arctic accelero extreme iv, and i've got copper memory/vrm heatsinks on the way as well as some tech ingredients thermal epoxy for them
yoyo people
so i have a ryzen 9 3900xt and a 1080 ftw edition
now i want to know what are the best numbers to overclock my gpu on
my psu is a 750watt evga 80 plus gold
im using evga precision x1
my temps are great but i'm constantly bumping voltage and power limits
@real prism every card is different
i was able to do +500mem +150core on my 1080
but that really means nothing for you
just keep upping clocks until you find instability and then back down. do core first
anyway i'm wondering if it's worth adding voltage trimmers and doing a shunt mod to an air cooled card
even if it's an extremely well cooled air cooled card
are these mods only helpful for ln2 overclocking?
if i'd only get a small bump in oc headroom for my time i'd be fine with that. i realize this stuff is well past the point of efficiency
@finite steppe Check this out https://xdevs.com/guide/pascal_oc/
Hardware voltage adjustments for EVGA GeForce GTX 1080 Founders Edition. Power limits removal and GPU, memory, PLL voltage mods.
Not really, no
Unless you plan to waterblock/ln2 pot it later
i actually tried to link an xdevs page for the 1080ti and the bot told me that website is banned
You can post links now
This one? Ya, all of TiN's articles are a masterclass IME https://xdevs.com/guide/pascal_m_oc/
i tried asking here anyways because the article just assumes you're doing ln2 overclocking which is of course what's common for those mods
i can keep my card around 50c and it's not finished with the cooling mods yet. i've thought about doing water
i'd really hate to do the soldering and then find out "oh my card is now thermal throttling"
but i'd like to think i have some good headroom
currently the best my card (titan xp) can do is +125mhz on the core which gets me to 2000mhz
i'd be really happy with like 1-200mhz more and maybe somewhere around mid 60c
Ya nvidia cards dynamically adjust clock based on temp/power target
e.g. you can hit something like 2100 core on most Turing cards if you keep core <40c
if i remove that temp sensor tin shows in the article, would it stop this behavior?
or is it only to do with sub 0 temps
Don't think so
There are many, many temp sensors in the die
It's not really an artificial limitation
he does mention it removes overheating protection though
but it doesn't say anything further
i've noticed temps going over 55c or so causes another drop in clocks
I think it's about 15mhz every 5c?
so that's what i am thinking about
yeah something like that
i'll go just below 2000mhz
now with extra voltage and power limit i'd definitely have a temp increase
@radiant kettle sup
so i'd hate to lose clocks from temps going up, even though i just gained clocks from extra power
i have no idea if one would overrule the other
all core is going to be hard, but you can probably get a cpuz valid @ 5.2
Drop it down to 2 cores, etc
I was at all core 5.1 at 1.34V
delid / lm?
Yes
That makes sense
is 1.39v high for coffee lake?
1.4V is about the highest safe voltage
safe at all or safe 24/7
As long as you keep temps down, ya, that's probably fine
24/7
oh ok
Anything over 1.4 all core 24/7 isn't good for 14nm
As long as your use case isn't literally running p95 small fft 24/7
well why are you surprised it booted
Because 5.2ghz
If you game like a normal person, good cooling + 1.4v is fine imo
don't cpus boot easier with more volts
lucky chip
Yeah it is
Got it for $85 a year and a half ago
You can probably get $300 for that bin of a chip
Replaced my i5 8400 which I re sold for $120
Time to loop cinebench r23 for 15 minutes
i recently bought a ryzen 5 3500 on ebay, and got sent a 3600
Oof I'm hitting 77C max temp
Yeah ryzen don't overclock well because the boosting is so good
It just knows it's limits so much better than intel
Also I'm running stable at 5.2ghz 1.39V
Jesus christ
Impressive
I'd say 1.35v is pushing it for daily on 7nm
i have it at 1.32 and 4.5ghz now
It's not fragile but it also kinda is
Yeah 1.32 is probably fine
temps rarely get past 50c
eh, high voltage - 1.5v is fine, depends on current load/density
Give it the frost juice and should scale to 2v sometimes lmao
i've got a corsair h150i pro on it
Oh definitely not for manual all core oc
Yeah lol
But if you leave the chip to its own management, you'll see 1.5v all the time
yeah i'm talking about manual all core
But the chip knows what it's doing
You US?
wat
@radiant kettle normal people don't know what either of those things mean
Post your rig pic or something
You want to push the cpu with liquid nitrogen lmao
did you ask if i'm in the us
cinebench crashed I've never had it crash
From the other day
@finite steppe what part if you don't mind me asking lol, I'm in IL
Just curious
so mw did mean midwest
you think 1.39 is good for 5.2ghz or should I try to bring it down a little?
Yes
i'm in california
A short drive lol
north, santa rosa
But at least the weather doesn't suck when it's not on fire
I just had a storage BSOD
Rip that drive
when it's not on fire or 100 degrees it's great
I think my ssd just died wtf
It's been cold and rainy all week here
Tbh I'd prefer snow over rain when it's cold, especially since I have no where to go working from home
Reason: Bad word usage
we still getting 60s and 70s during the day and clear/sunny
Screw you lol
the other 2/3 of the year it's unbearably hot
although, i don't have ac
Eh, it gets pretty cold in the winter, and summer is uncomfortable hot and humid
Only really nice out for about a month or so in the spring and fall
Dry heat is nice until you don't notice your dehydration
Humid you get drenched in sweat to remind you to drink
the sweat never evaporates, don't need to replenish
You'd think
i do always have dry lips
For the first time ever I can hear my dark rock 4
maybe it is because of the weather
I really should sleep, trying to get a bitchin score in pcm7 and honestly considering buying a bunch of those sabrent drives
to answer about ln2, i'm sorta interested in trying it sometime just to try it
but not as a main hobby or anything
too much work for something i can't even use the rest of the time
Usually I get a whea when it's not stable
There's a few people in CA who do ln2, although I haven't heard from any of them in a while
If you're thinking of doing it in the next 6 months ppc has a sale right now and carries kingpin pots
Most of us are around the mid west or texas
A few on the east coast
Level 2 OC-ESPORTS competition running from 11/1/20 12:00 PM till 12/31/20 12:00 PM.
As for the doing it a little bit, @proven canopy can tell you that once you try it your addicted lmao
i'm happy with my air/water overclocks
i have more fun trying to maximize those kinds of cooling and get something i can use every day
well i guess i wouldn't know if i have more fun, never tried ln2
but i have fun regardless
You can push a gpu really far with just chilled water
something i have actually considered is a water chiller
- xoc bios / power/voltage mods
Oh you have low humidity
I'm from Colorado. Need lower PC temps? Have the intake near a window
This is a legitimate strategy lol, people do that
Works like a swamp cooler basically
I've done it before
Probably the lowest power draw chiller possible
I got my idle temps to under 10C
still sorta too much setup for a daily
7-9C across the board lol
Granted I had a box fan blasting the air into the case
Normal chillers draw 1kw on their own lmai
All air coolers
bong cooler, gotta top it off and worry about keeping it clean
titan rtx sli lol
and both are huge
I killed a pc doing custom water cooling once. Never touching water again
If you put filters on the outside you can keep most of the bugs out
Top it off not that often
other thing is, say i can have my cpu at 10c
No worse to manage than a humidifier or dehumidifier (I know ya'll don't know what that second one is in CA 😛)
only advantage of that is being able to run higher voltage which isn't safe 24/7 anyway
Cold scaling is a thing
You'd be surprised how much cpus can scale with just running colder
May gain 100 mhz over normal water loop for basically the same effort
At the same voltage I went from 4.8 to 5.1
whatever century i finally get my 5800x maybe i will try evaporative
I put like no time into my daily tbh, it's an office machine with 1650 gddr6
Too much time spend on the frosty rig
i only have 1 desktop and a laptop
I'm a tech hoarder, I buy stuff to mess with but then never sell it
Not stable
or do I just throw more voltage at the problem
i have lots of dell precision laptops i had intentions of frankensteining into "the ultimate gaming laptop"
I actually have gotten way more 400 series
I'mma throw more voltage at the problem and hopefully it fixes it
Do we still need a 1080/titan xp?
puts in 1.9V
They have a switch on the back to disable ocp, and a switch to disable cold bug
@proven canopy I am in possession of both pascal titans and they work, dunno beyond thay
what is e power

Titan xp should be okay without epower
X pascal it's 100% necessary for ln2
@finite steppe bypass the power delivery vrm with a better one
replacing the card's vrm with your own https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/662317833103081472/746449458149064714/image0.jpg
Titan x pascal would literally explode if you pushed it hard on ln2 without epower
Xp should be okayish
that's much less expensive that i would have thought
Epower is a last resort mod, you basically only do it when you have no other options
Yeah price went way down
Used to be $250
Hey it's stable at 5.2 1.4V
I have a suspicion that evga is trying to clear stock
Probably not selling cause it's so niche, but maybe we see epower vi in a year or so
does epower give you voltage control or just more current/lower vrm temps
epower gives you all the voltage control
You can control the voltage it outputs
Has a separate memory rail as well
But main reason to use it is vrm is too weak
how does that work, software? external device? knob?
It's not a reversable mod
You can do other vmods and pull them off to sell the card
Well, not easily reversable, usually you just desolder the chokes and solder in the epower
i've already had to solder my titan, knocked a cap off and fixed it. it's probably well past warranty anyway
You also have to cut the connections to the old vrm so it doesn't try to power on
@finite steppe if you epower the card cannot be made to work without an epower any more
And most people don't want to buy a card with epower hanging off
i'd be likely to just sell it complete when i can get a 3090/6900xt next year. or just keep it forever
i'm not too worried about it
what is fb mod
Feedback mod, basically there's a pin on the vrm that detects how much voltage the gpu is actually getting, if you put a resistor between the gpu and that pin the it thinks the gpu is getting less voltage than it is so it steps up voltage
Ideally it would be a potentiometer so you can adjust the voltage
I think there's a version you can do for pascal that gives you fixed voltage, which is ideal
Once you get voltage to be properly fixed you can set a flat curve and overclock using the "low power" state, which is fine because you manually force the voltage to be enough
And that way you never get micro throttling and performance is higher
you have my brain's mouth watering with the thought of a 2400mhz titan xp on air
that would beat a 3070 i am willing to bet
It's cheaper and easier than epower https://reddit.com/r/overclocking/w/gpu/nvidia/pascal?utm_source=share&utm_medium=android_app
Not happening on ambient air lol
2400 water maybe lol
i'm not afraid to slap a gigantic cpu cooler on
🚰
half my case can be heatsink
Anyways that link is a good read about how oc works on pascal
It's not just heat load though, gotta be like -20c at least for that lol
I think nio wrote most of that, good info
How likely is it that I killed a cpu from 1.4V
I'm gonna try to sleep, see ya'll in a few months
cya
Coolermasters releasing an aio that reaches like 1c 5.6ghz all cores
I won't post half the time and when I do post I blue screen with machine check exception
Linus did a vid on it
Which is hardware
that chiller wouldn't work
wattage it can handle is too low
it's not gonna deal with a 400w+ gpu
at 250w its like on par with a normal 360 aio 400w would not do well
I am getting a ryzen 7 2700x on an asrock b450 steel legend promontory atx motherboard. The processor includes a wraith prism. Would this cooler br enough to OC a bit, or should I get and AIO, and if so, how large (I have a mid tower which can fit a 360mm cooler)
Just try using PBO.
is it hard to overclock a cpu
no
I’ve been waiting for a hero to come along and teach me how to do ram timings
Got my Gskill Trident Zs today. Unrelated, I know, but please be excited for me. Birthday present to myself. (Birthday was yesterday)
Happy late birthday :D
@dark ferry Gonna try and get some ram OC in? Do you know what die the kit is?
Oo that's decent
And sure once I have more info on them and actually know what the hell I'm doing I wouldn't mind overclocking.
Might not have too much headroom, but well, could be fun.
I'm guessing Hynix CJR/DJR
FFFFFFF
c die?
Samsung cdie
042 code on the sticks, last 4 numbers and letter will tell you
Reason: Bad word usage
Both are poop
Not really, gskill doesn't use reve in 3200c16
thought they might in ripjaws
Nah
@tall pelican Is G.skill better about stuff all kinds of memory into the same model than Corsair?
You bought cheap rgb ram, its not going to overclock well
eh, who knows, might have a decent time tightening timings or smth
nothing crazy tho
Uh ok. I didn't know it was "cheap ram".
Corsair will put anything in sticks, gskill is mostly hynix/samsung
But whatever I don't "need" to overclock em.
