I don't bother with custom water because I enjoy the ease of swapping out parts whenever I want

Most people don't use that case for 3.5" mechanical drives. Most users these days have M.2 as a main drive (possibly a secondary as well) and 2.5" drives for other storage.

sorry, was busy eating, my recommendation are arctic mx-4, thermal grizzly kryonaut, and gd extreme
mx-4 is the easiest one to apply, also cheapest
kryonaut is harder to apply but is the best paste that's non conductive
gd extreme is even harder but better iirc?
