odd cosmos
#

ikik now thankss tho

#

im so dumb smh

solid dust
#

šŸ¤¦ā€ā™‚ļø lmao. That will make it so much easier now lol

earnest olive
#

lol

livid canopy
#

we need a city dump for removed hdd cages

fading sphinx
#

@earnest olive tried one stick nothing

livid canopy
#

i really had to "Work" mine out of my mesh II p

earnest olive
#

remove the sata drive too and try to boot into bios with no drives attached

livid canopy
#

some sata cables are pci laned or is that amd only? that being said since it only has 20x lanes This could be the issue

#

or sata ports

earnest olive
#

nope

livid canopy
#

so even if they manage a boot on sata

#

the sec the re-install the pci-e ssd

earnest olive
#

i've had faulty sata device prevent system boot before

livid canopy
#

it may force disable one of the drives to enable pci 16x to gpu

earnest olive
#

...it's a z590 chipset

livid canopy
#

not saying this is what it is but i encountered this on the b550i itx build when i installed a 2nd sata drive pci-e got all jumbled and boot process had it trying to boot from a non win installed drive

earnest olive
#

it has 24 pcie lanes by itself

#

and the cpu has 16

#

so he has 40

#

not the issue

#

and even if pcie lanes were the issue, sata does not use pcie lanes

livid canopy
#

in my case it switches the lanes/priority depending on which sata connectors are used

#

still booted etc but gpu was at 8x until i found the right headers to populate

#

as well as legacy mode or not for the case of the m.2 drive

fading sphinx
#

@earnest olive still nothing tried it without the drive and ram swapping around only thing is the eggs on the board light up

earnest olive
#

eggs?

livid canopy
#

the leds

earnest olive
#

oh

#

which one?

#

wait debug leds or rgb

livid canopy
#

perhaps you mounted cpu too tight?

earnest olive
#

no such thing as mounting a cpu too tight

#

and even if so it was working before

fading sphinx
#

Rgb

earnest olive
#

the socket can't exactly push down on the cpu more than it's designed to

desert gulch
#

ye ye

earnest olive
#

like i guess you could use your hand to mash the cpu into the pins but

#

then you have bigger problems

desert gulch
#

maybe if you use the wrong socket for ur cpu

#

and jam it in there

fading sphinx
#

It posted earlier

earnest olive
#

yeah

desert gulch
#

hmmm

earnest olive
#

have you disconnected all peripherals/usb devices?

fading sphinx
#

No I’ll do that now

earnest olive
#

as dumb as it sounds i had a pc refuse to boot due to a faulty usb device... while i was demoing it to the customer

#

it was very awkward

#

especially since he was skeptical from the start

#

he ended up being happy with his rig though

fading sphinx
#

Nothing

#

Well just the rgb

earnest olive
#

weird

#

when it posted earlier was that with or without the gpu

#

try removing the gpu

fading sphinx
#

No it posted with gpu

#

I’ll try tho

earnest olive
#

hmm

#

that's really weird that it stopped working now

fading sphinx
#

All I did was turn it off with power button and back on

#

Still no gonna try jumping it again

#

Nothing

earnest olive
#

with gpu removed too?

fading sphinx
#

Yea

earnest olive
#

wack

#

hard to tell what the issue could be now

fading sphinx
#

It’s weird I know the boards getting power and it fired up what the heck

#

Before*

odd cosmos
#

wait guys, which screws do you use to secure the mob onto the case?

fading sphinx
#

My case came with them

odd cosmos
#

ok i found a thing that shows them but it's gonna be hard ugh

#

and also, how do y'all find out which one to plug into which port?

fading sphinx
#

The mobo user manual will say where to put everything

#

Almost everything is self explanatory

#

As far as plugging in stuff

odd cosmos
#

ok

fading sphinx
#

I dunno I’m gonna take a day brake and come back at it fresh

odd cosmos
#

also, are pins only supposed to go half way?

potent portal
#

Power supply plugs should click in place when they're in all the way

odd cosmos
#

the hd audio one only can go half way

#

idk

#

why

potent portal
#

Are you putting it in the right header? It's usually the very bottom left one

odd cosmos
#

yea

#

yea bottom left

potent portal
#

If you're sure you got it in the right spot you might need to use a little force. Make sure you're pressing down, not at an angle though.

odd cosmos
#

ok

#

hwo mnay ports are there est?

#

around

potent portal
#

Which headers you use depends mostly on what case you have. Usually anywhere from 2-5, not including the front panel buttons and LEDs.

odd cosmos
#

ok

#

so basically

#

like cpu

#

fans

#

sound

#

etc?

potent portal
#

Yeah, and USB for the case

#

You might use a few more if you have a lot of fans

odd cosmos
#

there are a lot that are unnamed

#

how do i know if i should use or not?

potent portal
#

Your manual will have a diagram with all the ports numbered and labeled

odd cosmos
#

alr

#

thanks

#

lemme go find it ugh

#

in the mob manual?

potent portal
#

Yes

odd cosmos
#

kay

potent portal
#

Which board? I'll tell you what page

odd cosmos
#

um

#

B560M steel legend

potent portal
#

Page 7 has the ports numbered, and you match the number to the list on page 8

odd cosmos
#

ok

#

lemme c

#

thanks btw

#

idk if it's even gonna power on

potent portal
#

Then page 9 has the back panel numbered the same

odd cosmos
#

i think im dead, the descriptions dont really explain well

#

idk where to put all the cables

potent portal
#

What cables? You can post pics if there's any that you don't know

odd cosmos
#

pretty much all of them

#

i got the cpu down

#

the hd audio

#

the huge one (i think pwoer for everything)

#

and nwo im really confused about three

#

which are

#

POWER SW

#

H.D.D LED

potent portal
#

Ah the front panel ones

odd cosmos
#

yea

#

idk where to plug them on

#

is it panel 1?

potent portal
#

Page 20

#

Yes

odd cosmos
#

ok

#

and is there anything else?

#

what does the M/bd RGD do?

potent portal
#

RGB?

odd cosmos
#

yea

potent portal
#

Page 24

odd cosmos
#

so complicated lmao

potent portal
#

The first time it can be, especially if you're doing extras like RGB

odd cosmos
#

yea....

#

does every case have a power LED one?

potent portal
#

Every one that I've seen does

odd cosmos
#

ok

#

i can't find mine

potent portal
#

With the exception of a few rack servers

odd cosmos
#

i have a p400a

#

btw

potent portal
#

It's not important for now

odd cosmos
#

if u didn't know

odd cosmos
#

around how many r there for the p400a

#

?

potent portal
#

It's just a light on the front panel to show the PC is on

odd cosmos
#

ports i need to plug in that is

#

is it a 2 pin or 1 pin?

potent portal
#

How many fans and how many RGB devices do you have?

odd cosmos
#

for the POWER LED

odd cosmos
#

rn, i have the rans

potent portal
#

The power LED should have 2 pins

odd cosmos
#

which are RGB

#

um and then cpu cooler

#

which is red LED

#

do u have a list for all the cables i have to plug in?

#

and the mob is apparently RGB

potent portal
#

I wouldn't know without looking at your exact parts which cables are needed, I could only guess

odd cosmos
#

oh

#

alright is there any tips for me?

potent portal
#

One thing at a time. Don't overwhelm yourself. Ask for specifics if you have questions on what things are or what they do.

odd cosmos
#

alright...

desert gulch
#

i mean a basic tip if you really want it is that all the screws dont need to be crazy tight, a lil past fingertight on stuff is fine for most stuff

odd cosmos
#

do u think i should plug the main power in to check

#

that i did something correctly

#

or should i do everything first

potent portal
#

All you need to plug in to test if it turns on is the 24 pin main power, 8 pin CPU power, CPU (and its fan), and memory. GPU if you don't have integrated.

#

And the power button if you want to use that to test it

odd cosmos
#

where is the memory supposed to be plugged into?

potent portal
#

To the right of the CPU

odd cosmos
#

how many pins?

potent portal
#

On the page 7 diagram it's number 2 and 3, the long thin slots

#

Technically 288 pins but that doesn't really matter

odd cosmos
#

sorry what?

#

288 pins?

potent portal
#

Use slot 2 and 4

#

Yes

odd cosmos
#

page 7 doesn;t have a diagram?

potent portal
#

The memory looks like this

odd cosmos
#

yea ik

potent portal
#

There's 4 slots that it will fit in to the right of the CPU

odd cosmos
#

i put them in already

odd cosmos
#

but is there power pins to it ?

potent portal
#

No, it's powered from the motherboard

odd cosmos
#

ok

#

so we have cpu rn

#

24 pin

#

main power

#

cpu fan

#

what else do we need?

#

also i cant find power LEDs idk

#

where they r

#

does igpu need pcie?

desert gulch
#

no

odd cosmos
#

and it wont fry if i didn't plug in everything right?

desert gulch
#

it uses cpu power

#

plug in the 8 pin cpu power

#

should be near top of mobo

odd cosmos
#

yea did

#

anything else?

desert gulch
#

i mean if you got everything else loose plugged in then ye you could try to power it on

odd cosmos
#

btw the 3 pin rgb for fans are really loose

#

is that ok or?

odd cosmos
#

since

#

i have igpu rn

#

so a lot of PCIE are unplugged

desert gulch
#

ye

#

no need for pcie stuff

odd cosmos
#

yea

#

i got everything else pretty much

#

btw the 3 pin for rgb of the fans

#

is loose

#

is that fine?

desert gulch
#

case fans arent needed to post a system

odd cosmos
#

ok but they are kinda loose

#

tho

desert gulch
#

i mean wdym loose

#

you plug it in all the way?

odd cosmos
#

it's kinda loose yk

#

like not a click sound

#

whne i plugged in

#

btw i chekced and the cpu fan works, the mob rgb works

#

and idk if other things work since they dont have indicator

desert gulch
#

they wont click

#

rgb headers do not click

#

they just slide in

odd cosmos
#

Ok

#

But after I put them in nothing happened

#

It’s called the

#

M/BD RGB

#

Idk what it does

#

Also I can’t find the power led

#

And the connectors for case

#

But how do I tell if the cpu is working?

solid dust
#

Why are there soooo many cables peepoSadSip

#

I only have like 10 plugged in

#

And 87 more to go

odd cosmos
#

Lol

#

Same

solid dust
#

And I have ocd so I have to cable manage in the best way possible so you literally cannot see a single cable lmao

odd cosmos
#

So the motherboard cpu cooler seems to be working. However the case fans aren’t spinning or have rgb when we turn the pc on. Is that normal?

solid dust
#

Are they plugged in to your motherboard, and into the right spots? I accidentally plugged in my rgb and fan control into opposing plugs since they were both 3 pin lol

odd cosmos
#

And can’t find the power led

#

Do the case fans spin even if it’s not hot

solid dust
#

Yes

odd cosmos
#

wait how do u know if cpu is on?

#

i got my display and connected but no signal

#

what could that be?

solid dust
#

I’m not completely sure. I’m not super skilled in PCs

odd cosmos
#

oh its fine im sure other people can help

#

anyone else?

solid dust
#

You might want to use the PCMR or BuildAPC discords for other help

#

@odd cosmos accept my friend request and I’ll invite you to those

odd cosmos
#

kk

#

Anyone can help with my issue, so basically, when I plug it into a display, no signs is presented

#

What could be wrong?

marble seal
#

are you plugging into the gpu or the mobo?

#

if you have a gpu make sure you plug into that

odd cosmos
#

Wdym I don’t have gpu rn lmao

muted patio
#

wait what

#

what CPU?

odd cosmos
#

Yea ik but that shouldn’t prevent it from receiving any signal

muted patio
#

what cpu do you have?

odd cosmos
#

Intel 11500

muted patio
#

What motherboard?

odd cosmos
#

B560M

#

Steel legend

#

Idk if I plugged in everything tho

muted patio
#

Yeah, probs need a BIOS update for that cpu TBH

odd cosmos
#

The case fans turn on but don’t spin l, the cpu cooler turns on and spins

muted patio
#

You don't have a video output tho

#

-_-

odd cosmos
#

I think motherboard has most of its rgb working

odd cosmos
#

Tho*

muted patio
#

Mmmm, mebbe not

odd cosmos
#

Since igpu

muted patio
#

Many things can

#

If no video out then no post

odd cosmos
#

What are all the things I need to plug in?

muted patio
#

Just because fans spin and things happen doesn't mean it's posted

odd cosmos
#

Yea

#

I understand

#

But could there be some serious issue?

muted patio
#

and no diagnostic lights, wonderful

odd cosmos
#

Like broken cpu

muted patio
#

CPU power plugged in?

#

the 8 pin?

odd cosmos
#

Yea

#

I think so

#

It’s cooler is working

muted patio
#

You're sure it's not the video 8 pin?

#

IE VGA

odd cosmos
#

Wait

#

How to tell?

muted patio
#

End of cable will be labeled CPU where it goes into the motherboard

#

It will be 2 4 pin connectors stuck together

odd cosmos
#

Yay onezv

#

That one*

#

On the left of cpu

#

Top left

muted patio
#

Yeah, looks like it might not be in all the way tho?

odd cosmos
#

Oh

muted patio
#

Check it

odd cosmos
#

Think it is

muted patio
#

Sometimes with those 4 pins, one has to go in first for the other to be fully seated, it's the way they interlock

odd cosmos
#

Isn’t it 8?

muted patio
#

Should be 2, 4 pin connectors stuck together

odd cosmos
#

Ok yea

#

Think they in properly

#

Could it be anything else?

#

I’m really scared it’s broken cpu

muted patio
#

Ram not seated all the way

#

24 pin power not in all the way

#

NVME drive in the wrong slot

#

any number of thigns

odd cosmos
#

ļæ¼ok lemme see

odd cosmos
muted patio
#

What drive is it exactly?

odd cosmos
#

Nvem m.2

muted patio
#

What drive is in there

#

need a model name

muted patio
#

And you used the screw in the end of it to hold it down?

odd cosmos
#

Yea

muted patio
#

NOt just the cover?

#

K

odd cosmos
#

One screw holds down the cover and ssd?

muted patio
#

No

odd cosmos
#

Wait

#

Then

muted patio
#

ON the end of the SSD there's a notch

odd cosmos
#

ITS THAT

muted patio
#

There's a seperate screw for it

odd cosmos
#

Oh

muted patio
#

really tiny one, usually in it's own bag

odd cosmos
#

Then another one fire the cover

muted patio
#

Yeah, or two for the cover

odd cosmos
#

For

muted patio
#

depends on the board

odd cosmos
#

Yea 2

#

Ok

#

Can I leave it like that for one night

#

Cause I kinda have to sleep

muted patio
#

Might be why it's not booting

odd cosmos
#

And fix tmrw?

muted patio
#

so leave it powered off until you check

wise shore
#

Hello

muted patio
odd cosmos
#

Ok i turned it on a couple times to trouble shoot

#

Is it fine

muted patio
#

it's fine, just check it tomorrow

cerulean trellis
#

i need help

odd cosmos
#

Ok

#

Anything else?

#

Is a broken cpu likely?

muted patio
#

No

#

Few more things to check but you said you had to go to bed

odd cosmos
#

Could it be a missing pin not plugged in?

#

Yea it’s 12 lol

cerulean trellis
#

my friend got his new pc today and only his cpu shows up in task manager.

odd cosmos
#

But I’m really nervous

#

And can’t sleep

cerulean trellis
#

but it displays

muted patio
#

No, missing front panel connector won't do it

odd cosmos
#

Ok

odd cosmos
#

Then it’s prob ssd thanks

muted patio
#

Might be

odd cosmos
#

I’m still nervous and want to fix tdy but I don’t have energy lol

cerulean trellis
#

he got a new pc and his gpu is acting weird

muted patio
#

what gpu

cerulean trellis
#

we dont know

odd cosmos
#

Cya

cerulean trellis
#

it doesent show in task manager

odd cosmos
#

I will inform u if I fix it tmrw

muted patio
cerulean trellis
#

it only shows cpu hdd ethernet etc

#

yes it has a gpu

muted patio
#

Well, what gpu lol.

#

Check Device Manger

cerulean trellis
#

it posts but it doent show in task manager and game performance is really bad

#

k

muted patio
#

where did he get the gpu

cerulean trellis
#

idk

muted patio
#

Check device manager. might have to physically pull the side panel and check the machine

#

MIght just be drivers aren't installed

cerulean trellis
#

oh wait we got the gpu

#

i hate to say i

#

it

#

hd 5770

#

smh

muted patio
#

oh

cerulean trellis
#

i dint know it was that bad

muted patio
#

That would explain a few things then

cerulean trellis
#

sheesh

muted patio
#

Yeah, bad news

lyric thistle
#

oof

solid dust
#

Ok do I need to plug an 8 pin into this? It’s at the bottom of my z590a pro

#

I can’t find what it’s for in the manual, but I it’s called a PCIE-PWR 1

viral ore
#

thats just a 6 pin PCIe power connector

#

same thing that goes into your GPU

#

and no, you prolly dont need it

#

but if your gpu doesnt work when you finish building the system, that may be required

solid dust
#

I have two 8 pins that go from my psu into my gpu so I shouldn’t need it

#

Right

lyric thistle
#

is there a page on this in the manual?

solid dust
#

I cannot find it

#

The manual is all online, so their might be

#

Ok, but I am just trying to get my PC to post. The rgb fans and ram are lighting up, but nothing else is working

#

I am using integrated graphics on my cpu right now

#

And my radiator is not hooked up to any fans, it is just mounted to the front of my case with the case fans blowing into it, but I have no outtake fans at all mounted currently

clear moat
#

how do i check the total wattage being used for my pc?

lyric thistle
#

get a thingy that plugs into the wall

it SHOULD be ok but man that 8700k is really underpowered for the 3080\

clear moat

so i turned off my game

muted patio
#

If you can smell the PSU it ain't good then

#

It's a bit underrated yeah

clear moat

wym tho?

its oc'd to like 4.5

750W is recommended

clear moat

Heh

vagrant olive

no components better be slacking in my computer

muted patio
#

at 1080p high FPS, you're lmited by CPU

stoic island
#

Spikes shouldn't really smell, more ocp triggering concerns tho

muted patio
#

Hence the 8700k is a bit underpowered for that gpu

stoic island
#

But yea with 1080p and anything above 3070 you'll most likely be CPU bound

lyric thistle
#

what psu bbnohappy

stoic island
muted patio

They pulll almost 300W normally

#

Transients were 400-450

Ya

Most likely yes

what would i need to get to make it the fastest it can be?

1050TI for $400??

Please don't waste your money on that

Are these US prices???

Just get an i5 11500 and b560 motherboard and don't buy a 1050 ti for 400

@stoic island what cou you recommend for 3080

I don't see any bottle necks tho

lunar plover

for cpus right now i would recommend AMD, mobos you can usually choose between msi asus or asrock, they all make good boards

But tbh with the frames being so high at 1080p with 5900x and 3080 you wouldn't notice the dip to 1440p

that's how MSI names their monitors

Updating most drivers is really easy. If you can install a program, you can update drivers.

Tried removing it and a corner broke off so I assume I probably shouldn’t remove it?

Also does it matter which m.2 slot I put it in?

You should put it in M.2 slot 1 both because starting with 2 would trigger me and because the first slot is always guaranteed full bandwidth.

Leave the pad. If your drive has a heatsink around it like mine did, you will have to remove that to install it, most likely.
