Okay, so mainly CPU accel tasks, not really GPU accel, correct?
correct.
64gb of ram made the build more expensive than I thought, it'd be 2100$ for 5900x+3080, so I could step it down to a 3070 to fit in the budget.
geek squad tech stated that 3070 would increase capability up to 150%
gah am4 vrm list still doesn't included b550
Welp, pre-change expensive build for you to look at to start off, OVER BUDGET FOR NOW, CAN SAVE COST ON A GOOD FEW PLACES
https://pcpartpicker.com/list/jBxrCz
CPU and GPU costs are assuming you can get them at msrp, which isn't too hard if you have more than a week or two of free time to just have notifications
Well since the surge killed ram that means I lost drives gpu and cpu huh?
normally I do agree, however, Cory out of NE, seem pretty knowledgeble and understood my objective, without trying to push me to utilize their service.
NE? Anyways, we are not representatives from Newegg, everyone that doesn't have a Newegg Staff role doesn't work for Newegg, and we are not affiliated with Newegg or Pcpartpicker, Pcpartpicker is a free utility that encompasses many retailers including Amazon, Newegg, Best buy, B&H, etc.
figure it would take about a month to assemble all, due to graphic card shortage.
thanks, that's good to know.
Yo. I'm looking for a tower for 1,000 bucks. Anyone got some recommendations?
Hell, that list had 0 parts that would be cheapest to buy from wegg lel
@azure sapphire Prebuilt or building yourself?
building myself.
Pre-built.
@jovial cave Well, easiest way to bring that list under budget (Currently 2100$ with MSRP prices) would be to step down from a 3080 to a 3070, and that gives you room if you have to pay extra for a 3070 because retailers being dumb.
Look at Redux PCs
so I've heard.
@wanton cliff keep in mind their GPU prices are also wack now
Are they?
true, very true.
If refurb is an option, @azure sapphire

xotic customizations are great wdym @wanton cliff
I know their laptops are great but I’ve never seen customization for their PCs
random one on xotic
@wanton cliff look at customizations on this

The G3 Avenger will be the centerpiece of any room with its gorgeous tempered glass window. The front of the case also draws the eye in as its angular design is like nothing else on the market. We've all seen people say "that's too much thermal paste." Most the time, it turns out, they're wrong. This test benchmarks thermal paste application methods.

@stoic island was screen shot of list for me?
as much as the tip of your finger in width
nah, for someone else
got it.
Sorry if you missed it, @jovial cave this is the list for you
https://pcpartpicker.com/list/jBxrCz
and if you need to bring down cost into budget, a RTX 3070 for 500$ instead of the 3080 for 700$
ok, will check it out now.
AMD or Intel?
this one is Intel, mainly because this is the only <1000$ pc with a decent GPU
https://www.newegg.com/msi-aegis-r-9sd-010us/p/N82E16883152713R
@stoic island do you prefer AMD TO Intel?
oh and also, @jovial cave with the B550 and Zen 3 warning, that motherboard has bios flashback, all you need is a usb stick with the new bios on it, rename file, stick it in, press button, easy updated bios
very very situational
For you, Ryzen 5900x slams everything Intel has atm, since video editing and such is very multithread heavy
understood, good to know. Thanks!
that exact thing im having to do tomorrow and im super nervous about it lol
In this demonstration, we’ll show you how to use Flash BIOS Button with MSI motherboard.
i watched it, gained a bit of confidence from it.
So I went to open Cold War but it had an update so i let itupdate. Now i have to reinstall it. I have the files still installed on my PC though. Why is it reinstalling? is This the right chat for this?
you want the best way?
X method
But the point of the video is that too much thermal paste has never killed anyone
@stoic island I was looking at this and now I'm wondering which one is better https://buildredux.com/pages/build-your-pc?build=good
simple answer, the RTX 2070 in the other prebuilt absolutely slaps a 1650
use this for quick comparisons
https://www.videocardbenchmark.net/singleCompare.php
Well, not too sure, but when I was playing warzone, it was giving like frequent like 20gb-40gb updates, I'm guessing it's just cod being cod
and prolly some other things
Oh the x pattern method?
Maybe just large update?
The link you sent or the one I sent are upgrades compared to my current tower.
Lemme find the video
@azure sapphire This (9700f+2070)

hi nomad
I wrecked my car😎
I just do a dot
oh
Pea sized
wrenched your car to wrecked your car is very different
uh
@wanton cliff watch the video tho, quite interesting, x method op
Uses a lot of paste tho, no?
If you want it to be, sure
You alright?
Not a scratch
@stoic island list looks great, thank you. any other areas I should be alert to?
I'm assuming just tips and tricks?
if possible, yes.
For transferring data over from old PC to New, I'd try to move the important data over that's on the old boot drive to new SSD, and then format it, so windows doesn't screw with you for having multiple bootable drives.
And definitely get an extra usb drive if you don't have extras laying around
For the purchase, buy everything at the same time, aka. wait until you have the GPU to start buying everything else.
good idea, and I have several external hard drives available.
The rationale for that is because you want to be within the 30-day return window in case anything arrives damaged/DoA (Dead on Arrival)
Good nuff
That enough?
covers most of the ihs
So good?
yes
@jovial cave Next, if you do go for that exact build, make sure to bookmark this page (page for the motherboard support, with downloads and the manual) If you go for a different board, bookmark whatever page the other motherboard has. It'll make things simplier for checking the online manual or anything.
https://www.msi.com/Motherboard/support/B550-A-PRO
Welcome to the MSI Global official site. We are the top Gaming gear provider.
@desert scarab just wipe it off, otherwise it'll be fine
Since my psu surge, i discovered my ram is dead does that mean my gpu is dead too?
I was gonna use that as an encoder gpu
guys 32gb ddr4 3200 or 16gb ddr4 3600 which would be better
On top of it. Have bookmarked all suggested pages and resources. Thanks!
@jovial cave For whatever you do go for, get a fresh usb drive (formatted to fat32), download the most recent non-beta bios file for it, and rename it as according to whatever the motherboard manual says. For MSI, you rename the file to "MSI.ROM". And when you have everything ready, follow the instructions, like in this video from MSI.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iTkXunUAriE
In this demonstration, we’ll show you how to use Flash BIOS Button with MSI motherboard.
What chip, and for what purposes?
Will that damage anything I have on the new pc?
R7 5800x and gaming
the 16gb then
And you'll be able to find the most recent bios file from the motherboard support page
@little osprey well, what resolution will you game at?
1080p mostly
I'd get 2x8 3600mhz for 1080p, 2x16 3200mhz for 1440p/2160p as those start to use more ram
ick
thanks
I keep remembering 4k as 2560p for some reason
lmao
4k is really 2K lol
So the other is 1440
And the 4k is 4k
1080p
mhm
Pixel count is useful
a sales pitch
depends on which HD format your shooting for.
hence why we dont use it
2k is just annoying and confusing
1080p, 1440p, then 4K. Like, just call it 2160p
4k at least we know it's 3440x2160
Yeah honestly
1080, 1440, 2160
ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
Wait no
yeah lol
Aaaaaaaa
you see how much I look at 1440p panels now?
I mixed up both dimensions of 4k monitor with 1440p numbers
why pcpp fun
1440 is the sweet spot
lol
tasty b die
Do I need to reset the cmos before adding old ram bac?
bdie go brrr
for a sellable product output, you have to have variable formats.
well the “new” ram never posted or anything
The old ram is what was in it before
Yes, but the mobo likely still tried to train the memory or something like that
@jovial cave more advice: DDR stands for double data rate, so when checking ram frequency, some programs will tell you the "operating frequency", or the true frequency the ram runs at, like 3600MT/s transfer rate (3600'mhz') is 1800mhz operating frequency. To check memory frequency and timings, CPU-Z is a nice software. For monitoring everything else, hwinfo64 is a great software.
And to get your ram running at advertised speeds, you'll want to enable XMP in the bios.
Tech tips
indeed, it's tecc tips hour
got it, will pay attention to listed benchmarks.
Eh, not quite benchmarks, they're monitoring software :)
quik screenshot from my cpuz for example
ok, my bad, please, enlighten me. ahhhh. got it.
@celest horizon also, how the hell does this ram fluxuate realtime between 533 and 1064mhz
I don't understand
Cpu z nice to see these details with
and I've made sure I'm staring at DRAM frequency not northbridge
Hwinfo is more for monitoring temps
it's ddr3l or whatever it's called
2133 at cl10 is very fast for regular consumer hardware
2000c8 is like, $30/ 2GB stick today
saved scrn shot. Thanks.
LPDDR3
Must be a measurement error
No way it's running 2133 wit flat 10's on some prebuilt setup
laptop
@celest horizon the timings fluctuate too
it's betweel 1033c10 and 2133c16 it seems
ya, that's just cpuz not playing well with whatever platform that is
Never seen that kind of error before
You could try running asrock timing configurator
also that's an old version of cpuz
but shouldn't matter
Ignore music
@jovial cave by the way, this isn't how ram should behave, my laptop ram is just being weird, your ram should stay at one frequency and timing
got it, understood. I am strictly desktop user due to nature of production pipeline.
@stoic island my heart felt thanks to everyone, you have made my objective and chosen goal, a far less burden, and terrifying prospect.
:)
I'll be around for any more questions, so will any of the yellow named people, etc
In techies we trust
Always, 'Wideus,' always. Will do, Mr1111, have a good night everyone!
You too!
I've came to a very down to earth thought
I now have a reason to buy my motorcycle
Lol
Ight, all I needed to hear
Like why have a crappy honda when I can have a sleek Kawasaki z900
Go for it, they're tons of fun and sip gas compared to cars
I wish I could show you guys my car, it's not looking to hot😬
My 1290 gets 50-60 MPG lol
Wife's MT-10 gets 30
:/
Don't assume just because it's a bike it will get good mileage XD
'sip'
Well it'll sip if you don't enjoy speed like me
Don't they sip less if you cruise at high speeds
Not really
Oh
Depends on the bike. The Yamaha my wife rides gets 30 no matter how she rides it
People think that faster you go the more gas you use, it's actually quite the opposite, for cars and bikes
Bro, everyone knows the cobra 3 is the literal best ship
It is
But asp is the in front of everything ship
And plus it's not so great if it's not engineered
If I'm correct the original photo had an Anaconda and another ship flying next to it
But i cropped it put for the pfp
Ic
Fair enough
Once I get engineering after getting thru personal narrative then I'm switching back to cobra
Or maybe not, who knows
I'm on that dummy fed grind
I am just grinding money
Not efficiently, but just doing it
Probably a chieftain next
YES
Not build related anymore lol
I like to put the biggest fuel scoop on my ships I can
There, now it's build related
Lol
Lol I just attach a 2a fuel scoop
I'd prefer not to fill up a 128tonn tank with a scoop that collects at .2tonns/sec
Chaos
I plugged in the addr but where do I put that
uh
not sure, male header should probably be plugged into another connector..?
No, it's to plug another argb into it
It's just a splitter for connecting other things
so I leave it?
Doesn't HAVE to be used
Is it rgb?
yea
just leave it
Alr ty
It's used to plug other rgb into it so you aren't just using that header for your cooler
I scoop fuel when my tank is down a few units only
Corsair does something similar with their aios
Granted, I've never gone on a long voyage
It's still terrible
I have a 5a on my dbx and it still takes ages
lol i also only have asp explorer with no fuel tank upgrades
speaking of upgrades, i should invest in thruster upgrade
EnGiNeErEd FuEl TaNk
lmao
the current shield meta is pretty wack tho
people say engineering really broke the game
@muted patio by the way, didn't you have a software that told you if drivers needed to be updated?
Shields are goofy
You have some ships that can't wvwn get hit with a pebble before the shield breaks, amd then you have the cutter, can literally be hit by a nuke and not even dent its shield banks
especially if you've got engineered shields with like every shield booster possible
Yurp
wat
ED talk
ah
thought it was stellaris talk for a moment lel
and it's lookin not great from the trailer released weeks before launch
I really wanted to try star citizen, but that game is still trying to download to this day, and they make you pay like $45 to even do anything in the game
They've been working on that game for 5 years amd ita still in alpha
They say, "We don't want to release the game until it is completely finished
So basically it's gonna be an alpha game until it's done
I do not
You screw mobo onto the standoffs
might be in the bags that came with the mobo
Lemme see
Screws usually come with the case. They'll send you some if you complain, sometimes they get left out.
Uh I don’t think it came w any
Did you check behind the rear panel in a hard drive cage or zip tied to the mobo tray
Is there a way to test my gpu without plugging it in? Like with electrician tools, it suffered a psu surge and the ram didn’t work, I know someone that said they have a tool that will test in the electric circuit is open or damaged
not rly
There's specialized tools I'm sure but nothing a consumer could use. Only way to test for most is to try swapping into a known good system.
My brother doesn’t want me to test the gpu in case it screws up the pc since he tried my ram we still haven’t got it to boot even with his parts
I reset the cmos and am gonna hook it up and try a boot now
testing your gpu in his system wouldnt screw his system up
like just to see if it posts
Well it suffered a surge could i just plug it in and see if the fans come on or does it need to connect to a mobo to turn on?
sometimes it can
ig but bean
z490 if you want to take advantgae of the k at the end of 10600k
also
isnt 50 bucks for a 250gig ssd kinda overpriced?
I could buy a @hollow grail labs plan for a couple of those
1300
Gaming and school
I want to run my school stuff really fast, but also be good for smooth gaming
Thanks
I want it to run really fast and would like some nice frame rates, so maybe a really nice gpu??
?
wifi needed?
I’ll have to double check, we can include it for now
ok
to check all you have to do if see if you have a working ethernet port in the area pc is going
Nope
ok
then we'll throw in wifi
this is what ive come up with
anyone else feel free to critique it
So if I wanted to en cost efficient, would the best thing to do is wait for gpu price to drop also?
yeah best case scenario
you buy gpu first
so just wait for a gpu at decent price
and buy it
then buy rest of parts after that gpu is confirmed coming
Ok
Which gpus have the new rtx 264 encoder?
My PC is fixed
Do you mean Nvenc? if so all 16, 20 and 30 series have it, except for select 1650 cards.
I thought 10 series had NVENC too? Google said something about an obs option “rtx 264”
nvenc was introduced with the 600 series
but not all nvenc is created equal
NVIDIA NVENC (short for NVIDIA Encoder) is a feature in Nvidia graphics cards that performs video encoding, offloading this compute-intensive task from the CPU to a dedicated part of the GPU. It was introduced with the Kepler-based GeForce 600 series in March 2012.The encoder is supported in many livestreaming and recording programs, such as Wir...
chart of which GPUs have nvenc
from what i hear turing nvenc is significantly better than older ones
never heard of rtx 264
but it sounds like nvenc being marketed differently
But which cards have 7th gen encoders
ampere
30 series
pretty sure ampere encoder is pretty much the same as turing encoder though
afaik the main difference is that ampere gets AV1 decode
Would a 3070 be able to stream warzone without a massive FPS drop?
while playing what res?
I was gonna use my 1060 3gb as a dedicated encoder but I’m 99% sure it got fried in the surge
While streaming?
i play on 1080 with my card maxed out graphics getting 144 fps
no
i dont stream
nor do i have encoders
Because warzone uses 90-95% of a 3080
I would, but the bench I watched didn’t
Ah
Would using x264 or x265 what ever it is, kill frame rates if using a 5900x? I mean it’s a 12 core cpu and I don’t think games use more than 4-6
Oh I get it now your on amd
It took me a monute
Minute
mhmm
You confused me when you said you didn’t have encoders then I read your nick
Ah, have you tried it?
while streaming?
Yeah
uhhh i streamed msfs2020 at 1080p 60 and didnt take like any perf hit
Curious on amd capabilities, never used amd before
still at like 45-55 fps while playing
Was the stream choppy?
nah
i watched it while playing
super smooth
but that was out in the middle of nowhere
in cities it gets way more cpu heavy
So a 5900x will have no problem streaming and gaming especially warzone because I’ve heard msfs 2020 is hard to run
so i woulda taken a hit there
oh yeah no problem
could do it easily on a 5800x aswell
Yeah, my problem is trying to find stock on both 30 series and 5900x
Newegg had some at 10:30pm est but was out of stock fast af didn’t get to pick one up, and I didn’t get picked on the shuffle lol
I’ve got bad luck with all of this
I have bad luck in general
The gpu I was gonna use as a temporary card from my old build died so I need a new gpu to even boot the new pc if I get 5900x because I don’t think amd has igpu
ohhh ok
im not expirienced with those so ill take your word for it
that a 5900x would work nice
but yeah 5900x is top of the line amd gaming cpu rn
My old i5 3570 would take 15-20 minutes to compile 1k lines of code
might be worth considering
seems like a deal
hows it compete against a 5600x?
since thats in a similar price range
better mt?
but
yeah
multithreaded
10 cores pog
intel platform cost is higher so
mhmm
5600x is still in a different price class
since youd want a z490
but still really solid deal
?
? Where did that come from
he said his gf was next to him a bit earlier
Ah
so i told him if shes there he should hang out with her
yeah she was busy making keycaps
Ah gfs are overrated
No u
i'm gonna go now
used 3900x be like $350 or smth tho, another option to think about
...
Wait, does the Arctic liquid freezer II come with thermal paste?
If you respond to this I’m headed to bed please send dm thanks
Yes it does
Comes with a lil mx-4 good for one application
did they make a 980 pro 2tb ssd?
your right
Can anyone tell me whats the measurement of the power supply space inside the Asus Case ROG Z11 (mini-ITX)
I want to know if a 'Dark Power Pro 12' from Be Quiet! would fix inside
I do believe a ATX PSU would fit
Maximum PSU Length
160 mm (ATX or SFX)
cool thanks, I plan to use a mini computer then a laptop since its so small
Since I swapped the ram in my brothers pc it wouldn’t display so we put the old ram in and now it still won’t post
Do PCs normally do this or is his dead?
what ram, what mobo
check that the ram is in correct slots and installed all the way, could try reseating the ram, if the motherboard has any debug lights, beep codes, q codes etc. could also try clearing cmos
can also try booting it with 1 stick, and check compatibility with the ram you tried to install
Intel h81 gaming, and some knock of ram
It worked just fine then I put my ram in from my old pc and it wouldn’t post, put his ram back in and still won’t post
There is only 2 slots available, I reset the cmos upon new ram installation and old ram installation, no debug lights or beep codes
Ye try 1 stick at a time in the first slot, also can you send a picture of mobo and ram
1 sec I just sent him in to test it after reseating the ram
One stock had a much more crisp snap compared to last night
The ram from my pc %100 died in the surge his pc is working now so I don’t know
Guys 5600x is $279.99 in micro center
Damn I don’t have a micro center
I don’t think there is one in Florida
But if so it’s probably 5 hours away down in Orlando or something
florida man
What’s 4KB Random read
Umm on a sata drive it says that
Just a small file benchmark
Is larger the better
its just a bench
Yah ik
a good percentage of my messages here are addressed to you
But I don’t know this
no
And brand
NO
But it has insane read and write speed for a sata
why not just get NVMe?
Sata is limited by the bus
Not the drive
That
you can get a NVMe for half that price that is 6 times as fast, minimum
Thos drives are identical for all intents and purposes
You can get 1 TB NVME for that price
It’s 100 for a tb
customer service leaves a bit to be desires
A little less
Yeah there are 100 for terabyte with better drives
Like
Coughs in P31 gold
1 TB NVME is the same price and 5 times faster
That was a 24 hour sale
Yes
Pilot E time then
Ryan says helix L is 95
Helix L slow
Pilot E good
SATA drives are still good but if you have NVMe capable slots, populate them
What
Pilot e then
Pilot E is 3500/3000 for $109
speed
So I shouldn’t buy
Helix is 2500/1700
Get pilot e
I don't have NVMe capable storage slots, so I get to play with SATA
6 times faster basically
Is that m.2
yeah
Yes
why
I have an sn850
you should have 2 M.2 slots
Ik
You can get a PCI-E riser card
For a x4 or x16 slot
Well then use the other slot
To use M.2 drives
Only got x1s
or get one of those honeybadger type things
And get which one
3 of them, but one will be obscured by my new gpu
Eh, never mind then
Mushkin Pilot e
M.2's need 4 PCI-E lanes
Ok I’ll see
what board do you have, Maniac?
But I need a sata in my other one
why?
an NVMe will run in a SATA configuration if needed
Nothing else
Actually, there's x2 drives, and they can run on x2, can't they?
what motherboard do you have
A Lenovo H81 board
x2 is speed

Lanes are different
Lanes are physical electrical connections, x2 is speed rating
In a two lane M.2 slot
Seagate is ehh at least in the hard drive sector
What board we talking about here?
Is the mx500 good?
It's fine, yes
I probably would've gone for MX500 if I didn't get a Blue 3D
Interesting, they were 2 lanes only. In which case, just stick with SATA.
Reason: Bad word usage
Is it bad I miss my crap setup from when I was a kid
PCIe 2.0 and 3.0 respectively
Hi, New here. Im trying to put together a kit for a desktop that can be used for video editing at a school. I need to keep it under $1700. Im hopeing to include this:Intel Core i7-10700K Comet Lake 8-Core 3.8 GHz LGA 1200 125W Desktop Processor w/ Intel UHD Graphics 630 but not sure how to piece together the rest of the kits compatibility. I wrote customer support and they sent me here..
wow microcenter has 5600x for 270?
When are stocks going to be normal can’t get my cpu
Ye
I said that earlier if anyone wanted
so many deals lately
xD
Where
They have the 5600x MSRP listed at $449
Lol
down to $270
We have it as 300
ye i think they list 9900k as sale from 650 to 250 xD
Yeah
That's not needed for 5000 series
lot of companies do that, you just have to be mindful of what the true value is. another i know is for years amazon say at2020 on sale 170usd to 99usd
Any particular reason for going Intel?
Not going to game on it?
Hey, so could someone throw together a PC for photo rendering for $700?
Just make it better than a Mac book pro, lol
Should do the trick, no GPU because no games, well under $1700 https://pcpartpicker.com/list/zCZR8J
$1700?
Not needed with no GPU
SActually AMD would be fine. No gaming just Adobe Premiere video editing.
If there was decent gpu availability would you get gpu to do nvenc encoder?
You would need gpu graphics output on amd
If you want ultra pc you could put a 10900k better cooler and more ram if you wanted to use the whole budget lol
Damn hugely helpful,, Thank you!!!
@muted patio could you put together a photo rendering PC for me for $700
It just needs to be better than a MacBook pro
This is pretty good
eh
No GPU?
Do you need gpu for photo editing i didn’t know that
I would assume
didnt know it was for photo editing
It's for someone who does this professionally
And I need something that will make them not buy a macbook
for photo editing, more money is going to be spent on peripherals than the actual system
isnt a GPU needed for video editing?
Photo editing or video editing?
Photo editing and rendering
photo editing takes the processing power of a potato
video editing can take a metric crapton more
Not required but can help. Given the current GPU market, there's plenty of room to add one there, whatever you can find.
I guess my challenge is findng one that is compatible with the CPU and MB, yes?
compatibility with the CPU and motherboard isnt an issue
bottnecks are
any GPU from the last decade will be compatible but some will hold the system back significantly
from 5 or more years back, perhaps
Don't scare people with "bottlenecks" being an issue :p
dont worry about it too much tho
The word "bottleneck" should be wiped from existence
It's not an issue like compatibility, and the gpu "bottlenecking" the system in a VIDEO EDITING load is quite minimal
Bottleneck itself is a horrendous word for what it actually means for systems
its overused to be sure
but in a modern gaming load, for example, a GT 710 will bottlneck a system with, say, a 10600k
The concept is good, we should know about when one part holds another back, but just "your cpu bottlenecks your gpu" or any statement like that is just... Horrible... For how little it explains, and how bad the word makes it seem
@wanton cliff yes, but bottleneck is often used in cases where it really shouldn't be used
For example, common one, 3700x and 3070
People will argue both ways
thats about what I run
some games the CPU is used more, some games the 3070 is used more
Some will say CPU BOTTLENECKS GPU IN GAMING, some will say CPU WILL BE FINE GPU LIMITS FPS
not really any significant enough bottlnecks to speak of
Its just
simply not as much utilization of one part
The term shouldn't be used imo, you and I know how to use it and what it may mean, most others don't
Need more specific terms if possible
like?
A GT710 won't bottleneck anything, it simply has poor performance.
For example, CPU bound for Premier
CPu wil still run at full speed, so will the ram and the drives
GPU bound for mining
Those could be useful
But again, I just want the word to disappear when we're talking about things like 3700x+3070, it'll be fine
Bottleneck implies that one component is going to slow down another. It doesn't. Which is why the term is terrible.
say you are trying to play Forza or something, which is a pretty balanced game
actually wait
bad example
hmmm
trying to piece words together but
eh
I see what you mean, kinda
Layman's perspective: my gpu bottlenecks my cpu, therefore only half of my cpu is being used, I paid for the full cpu I want to use the full cpu!!!
in depth expert perspective?
Our perspective: horrible term, need numbers and testing
Actual experts, probably won't talk to us
:p
I am not
in comparison to me
So you go look at computers for a year and you'll be me too
everything is relative
ive been looking at computers for about that amount of time
I’ve been messing with them and looking at stuff about them for about 2 years and barely know anything still XD
Be active and willing to learn
I mean, I'm not completely dumb about computers, but I've still got a lot to learn
The skill gap between me and you is probably smaller than you thought
¯_(ツ)_/¯
youve been here longer
you've been in the presence of forks for longer lmao
I believe I also have sent the most messages in this server out of everyone lol
Oh damn tomie catched back up in total messages sent
I'm active in bursts so I get less xp, I go by total messages sent
Tomie is 2k total messages above me
heh
1k*
I'm sure Naed would be higher than you by now if he wasnt on his hiatus
Anyways, I talk to everyone and learn from everyone
Nah, I was above Naed when he was active
Naed is just treasure trove of info, but not as active
heh
how long has he been in the computer business
jeez, I've raised 40 levels since he left

I just started building my pc, I put the Ryzen cpu in the socket but it's so loose that it could fall out if I tilted my motherboard. Can someone explain why?
yes
Lift it up when installing, lift it down after the chip is installed
ok
the cpu should just slip into place on the socket, the lever to secure it
That controls a mechanism that'll hold the chip down
thx
:)
also the ssd m.2 port is on the back, any suggestions on how to access that without damaging the board
oh, I think they actually might be under heat lowering systems
I can just see them underneath

what board
the motherboard
MATX or ITX I bet
Which motherboard
lmao
The model
-_-
is that specific enough
no
Need full name
^
what specifically then
Example: ROG Strix B550-f
Like, Asus B450-F ROG Strix
or ROG Strix B550-E
oh, ROG STRIX B550-F Gaming (wifi)
you have 2 M.2 slots
one just above the PCIe 16x slot, one by the bottom
the bottom one, I believe, is Sata
Maybe you forgot to unscrew the heatsink thing?
correct me if Im wrong
ok
SATA modes
thats what it says
Ye, both slots can be NVMe
heres a better picture of exactly where they are
Can anyone help me out with something in bios?
Pretty soon low end gpus will go in m.2 slot
one M.2 GPU already exists
I updated it and it went fine, restarted and everything so I was changing the memory frequency back to 3600 and restarted and now nothing will come on
Oo
updated?
@mighty sapphire Which motherboard do you have?
why did you update your BIOS?
Iirc not actual gpu, it uses a protocol that used cpu iGPU

Issues with graphics card not working

The update went fine, came right back on
Just when I was redoing my settings I dunno what happened
It was like 3 years out of date
Try taking out your CMOS battery and waiting 30 seconds, put it back in. It will reset your bios settings.
It won’t undo any updates
has the B450-A even been around 3 years??
CMOS battery?
Do you know what a watch battery looks like?
turn PSU power off, unplug cable, take CMOS battery out
press power button a few times
wait 10 minutes or so
put battery back in
turn PSU back on and put cable in
see what happens
Also hold your power button with the psu off
It will drain some of the static
Before you do anything
this is what it looks like
Okay
I said that
I said hold 🙂
That does nothing for static, FYI. Just empties the caps in the PSU that may be holding a charge, meaning you can leave the battery out for less time to clear the CMOS.
Good to know
holding and pushing it a few times is basically the same effect
Battery is still good
Okay it worked!
Thank you guys!!!
Should I just leave the memory frequency/dram alone then? It’s at 2133 right now and I have the 3600
What happens when you use XMP?
https://pcpartpicker.com/list/KRXPDc
TFW your system is worth 1.5x as much as normal with scalper prices (No, I didnt buy a Razer Raptor, but I did buy a similar monitor at that price when I didnt know anything about computers)
Nevermind, found it
Might be called DOCP on ASUS boards
It auto sets your ram to the proper speed
On the main BIOS page, left hand side is a DOCP box
on TUF boards specifically
Use the drop down to choose a DOCp profile
Okay I’ll check
a bit more complicated on Strix boards
It’s disabled
This picture, left in the middle, DOCP. use the drop down menu to choose a profile
Yes, use the drop down menu to choose a profile for your RAM. Should be 3600 something
Enable it to get your ram to 3600 speeds
Perfect!
Yea I found it! I changed it in the wrong place I think then earlier
now save and exit
Sweet
I changed it in the wrong spot after updating the bios
You guys are lifesavers! Thank you!! Now hopefully this fixed the card issue
What card issue?
My graphics card wasn’t working, it got so bad I could have a video playing and have another tab pulled up
I have the 2070s, changed cords, psu, all kinds of stuff
and the pc would restart?
But if I recorded it, it didn’t show it going black
that sounds like a driver issue
so just the monitor lost connection?
Changed PSU from what to what?
I did unstill and reinstall the drivers
specific models, which PSUs
I’m running the tests now, I think this fixed it
Might have, yes
If your BIOS was that far out of date, updating it could have helped
It was the Enermax Revolution DF 650w and I got a Corsair rmx 750w
Tests are blacking out on them so I’m hoping it fixed it. When I contacted gigabyte they recommended updating bios
hang on to it for another build or a spare
Yea I tried everything before updating bios
didnt you say you had the TUF B450-A or something?
what does Gigabyte have to do with this?
Changed from one cord to two separate, new cords, new psu, drivers so nothing worked so figured bios was last option
It’s my graphics card
