i use a pc with some old pentium and 6gb ram as a temp nas and it is something xD for transferring some stuff back and forth from other pcs in the house it’s fine but i tried opening a folder with 13k photos and it kept crashing trying to load previews xD

Depends on how you set up the striping. If you just used disk management to create the spanned volume then it will be readable on any windows (or Linux with a few commands) system that you plug all the drives into.
If you did hardware raid it might not work.

Yes. The free version doesn't monitor the computer, but windows defender will take care of that and an ad blocker will stop most viral webpages. Just run Malwarebytes scan once a week or so.
