for any kind of nas work and honestly most workloads in general, but they do have a benefit for cold storage

if you were going to back up to a drive and put it in a lockbox somewhere

people got mad because raid array rebuilds on smr drives are unacceptably long, and if your drive fails and you're rebuilding from parity you have a good chance of more drives failing the longer it takes, which gives you a bigger chance of losing the entire array

#

cmr might take a day or two but i saw some people with smr where it took weeks or even over a month in one case

#

personally i dont have very many wd drives in my arrays but the ones i have lasted several years with no errors at all

cant say the same for my seagate drives though

The molex of course plugs into my power supply cable. The little 4 pin is that plugs into my RGB board. It’s a small board that’s for the case fans on my cyberpower case.

@rich egret Well, while technically compatible, I suggest against it, as Intel platforms currently cannot support PCIe 4.0, and will force the drive to run on PCIe 3.0.

Z490 as a chipset is not supposed to support PCIe 4.0 (yet), but some motherboards claim they can do PCIe 4.0, and foreshadow Intel 11th gen having PCIe 4.0, but we can't exactly test that with a CPU that doesn't exist yet :P

Lemme breakdown it rq.
CPU - poor choice. 9600K offers no SMT (hyperthreading) so it’s slower in most applications. Plus, it’s more EXPENSIVE then the 10400. Which is a better CPU as it offers hyperthreading. If you truly want OC. Go with a 10600K
MOBO - it’s a good mobo if you choose to keep the 9600K. So can’t fault you on that
RAM - overpriced and you can get better ram for just 4 bucks more at 3600 C16 at lower latency.
Storage - ALWAYS WANT A SSD. HDD is proven to have a slower boot time by huge margins. A MP34 NVMe drive or a Crucial MX500 would help. 256-520GB should be fine to store your favorite game and your OS
GPU - Overpriced. If it was lower in price and around the 220 mark it should be? Just fine. Don’t pay for that card please. Keep an eye out for a 5600XT (if on sale or special offer) or the 1660S. You shouldn’t pay more then 230 before taxes on a GPU for that range.
Case - Airflow looks to be of concern. For that price point go with a Corsair 4000D Airflow if in stock. Or a Phanteks P400A

    3)Add a new GPU. RTX 3080 is overkill, and not by a little. I would suggest somewhere between RTX 2060 or RTX 2070 SUper
    4)Upgrade to an i7-9700 (current i5-8400) using the same motherboard (B360M BAZOOKA (M-7B24).
    5)Purchase a CPU Cooler. I use air cooling because it has less of an issue and isn't as touchy as liquid cooling. I use Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO
    6)For a case, you wanna be sure to choose an ATX Mid-tower
    7)Get a small Solid State Drive. 256GB would be large enough to have the Operating System on it.
    8)Investing in bigger monitor's if that's still a desire. If you're gonna use the newer graphics cards, be sure to get 144Hz with G-sync and the lower the millisecond, the better for sharper objects and content
