Does anybody know if there are M.2 standoffs that are different between motherboard manufacturers? I’m upgrading to an M.2 and lost the standoff like most people. I bought a package from micro center that has standoffs but it is for gigabyte and MSI motherboards while I have an Asus and they aren’t fitting. I’ve double checked and they are not motherboard standoffs

Some changes I would make to that, 3600 is fine because 3600x isn’t much better for the price really, the stock cooler is adequate if you don’t plan on ocing, which doesn’t go too far on amd anyway. The ram I would try to get at least 16gb 3600mhz cl16

Also mp34 is good budget drive for nvme

Oh one other important thing, if you said you wanted to record or stream, I’d try to get a nvidia gpu for nvenc, highest that can fit in budget, probably wait for ampere cards to come out if this is in December anyway

For single pc streaming yes, you either use software encoder or hardware encoder. Software encoder is best quality but has high impact on performance and is mostly used for dual pc streaming via capture card, while hardware encoding uses gpu to process video and is less intensive for single pc, nvidias nvenc hardware encoder is better than amd’s as of rn. If you are streaming single pc no capture card needed unless you are doing external source like a console

But remember it's like 100$ more.

And yes, AMD is definitely better.

The infinity fabric, while not having many performance gains in gaming, is definitely gonna be useful in creative tasks. Same for PCIe 4.0.

Oh, the 9900k was on sale, so I had to buy it. It's gonna be for my first build, it's still being processed.
3600s for the price, with the 2600s as reference.

Im assuming the cpu and mobo are atleast 550

3900x is around 420$, plus a ~150$ motherboard

@little leaf CPU+Mobo was 550 after taxes.
The 990k was on sale 430$, about a 25% price drop. Buying it with certain mobos took 60$ off, and Email deals gave me a 30$ off code for the processor. It's a bonus that the mobo series I was looking at getting already was included.
So ~170$ mobo and ~360$ processor.
I mean, come on, that CPU is ~600$ usually.
