If you are forcing it your doing it incorrectly, the stand offs should just thread in

kind shuttle
#

It’s threading in

#

I just don’t have a tool to do it easier

pastel briar
#

And requires only finger power

#

Ah

foggy hazel
#

@pastel briar depends entirely on finger strength, plenty of people dont have much of it

pastel briar
#

Fair enough on that

foggy hazel
#

i have mini vices for fingers myself

kind shuttle
#

Haha

foggy hazel
#

but that is a side effect of the job

pastel briar
#

I build computers/servers so…

#

Might explain why my home network is similar to enterprise levels of toys?

foggy hazel
#

aye

#

you also "know" how to "grip" then

kind shuttle
#

Too small for me to get a good grip

foggy hazel
#

which is something normal people have no reason to "know"

pastel briar
#

Oh my refund check came in finally, time to hunt for a rack mount case 😄

#

which is something normal people have no reason to "know"
@foggy hazel

Not really sure what you mean by that?

kind shuttle
#

I need a really small wrench

foggy hazel
#

think of how you "grip" a spring for a server rack

#

you know how to NOT do it

pastel briar
#

Ah right

foggy hazel
#

its technique vs brute force really

#

and normal people will mash their fingers into a mess really quickly :)

pastel briar
#

Hehe that would be funny to watch tho

foggy hazel
#

@kind shuttle got some paper?

fast dust
#

@foggy hazel you remind me of a guy named USAFret from Tom's Hardware

foggy hazel
#

you can use that to fold around and make a "hold/wrench"

#

@fast dust dont know the man :)

pastel briar
#

I know I’m mean aren’t I…but then again I prefer to keep my “office” in the same room as all the servers

kind shuttle
#

Yes

#

A nut driver would b epic right now

fast dust
#

He's helped me a lot, and he talks like you 🤷‍♀️

foggy hazel
#

:)

kind shuttle
#

Why paper? For grip?

pastel briar
#

Yea

kind shuttle
#

Ah

#

Regular printer paper?

pastel briar
#

In place of the nut driver (can post a picture shortly)

#

Any paper

kind shuttle
#

Wow that works wonders

foggy hazel
#

@fast dust so .. he aint a spring chicken either then :)

fast dust
#

what

foggy hazel
#

he isnt young either then :)

pastel briar
#

You’re talking to techies 😄 @kind shuttle

fast dust
#

Oh yeah no probably not @foggy hazel

foggy hazel
#

a couple of decades+ doing things like this, makes you speak in a certain way. at least that is my experience

fast dust
#

Must be. He's been on the forum for a long time and he seriously talks super similar to you

pastel briar
#

I learned overtime to never ask open questions and just get to the point quickly

cursive wharf
foggy hazel
#

my co-workers/colleagues, know that IF i ask open questions, they should be running

kind shuttle
#

So far this is the most annoying part

pastel briar
#

Mine know that If I am asking a question to either give me the answer i need or get running fast and to never enter my quiet space called the server room

foggy hazel
#

good colleagues are hard to find, mainly because it takes so long to train them just right

#

@kind shuttle just a question of technique

kind shuttle
#

Idts

#

3-4 of them went in easily

#

The holes are slightly different

pastel briar
#

Eh?

foggy hazel
#

it IS a budget case

kind shuttle
#

You’d think that with all of the brainpower in the computer industry

foggy hazel
#

there will be some variance

kind shuttle
#

They could come up with a better way

#

To do this

pastel briar
#

Ah budget case

foggy hazel
#

but generally, just unscrew and try again

pastel briar
#

Explains all really

kind shuttle
#

Manufacturing error

#

That’s a big thing in locks

#

Same deal

foggy hazel
#

aye

kind shuttle
#

Cheaper the lock easier to pick cuz manufacturers do it for cheap

foggy hazel
#

its why very very few technicians will actually skimp on the things they interact with

#

because they know exactly how annoying it can be

pastel briar
#

Yup

kind shuttle
#

Right now I feel like hammering them into the table

foggy hazel
#

welcome to what saving 15 bucks feels like @kind shuttle

pastel briar
#

Like my home server rack 😄

kind shuttle
#

I totally would’ve spent more on the case if I knew this 😦

foggy hazel
#

yes, logically NOW you say that

#

but i would have had a VERY hard time convincing you of that back then

kind shuttle
#

Not true

foggy hazel
#

:)

kind shuttle
#

One of the holes is the teeniest bit crooked

wary tundra
#

What does a sound card do?

#

I have an idea

foggy hazel
#

@wary tundra plays back sound

wary tundra
#

oh

#

thats kinda disappointing

foggy hazel
#

and depending on the software stack that is installed with it, it can do a bunch of tricks related to sound

wary tundra
#

better sound quality?

foggy hazel
#

that is part of it yes

#

but that is dependant on what specific chip is "in" the soundcard

wary tundra
#

hmmmm

#

interesting

stoic island
#

Without the sticker on the SSD, only 'issue' would be heat?

#

Because my ssd temps are fine

foggy hazel
#

its not an issue as such @stoic island

stoic island
#

(Is there anything I might want to do?)

foggy hazel
#

its more of a "what is the supposed purpose/is-there-a-purpose" for the sticker answer

#

if that makes sense?

stoic island
#

Yea.

cursive wharf
#

@stoic island idk what temps you actually have but just consider that there is usually only a temp sensor on the controller and no where else on the SSD

stoic island
#

Usually flash likes to be hot so

foggy hazel
#

@kind shuttle any luck?

cursive wharf
#

Unlikely but temps could be bad on say the botton side of SSD where some NAND can be. As for that, usually about 40c or so

#

afaik hotter then 40c is bad

stoic island
#

I mean

#

The sticker isn't on the bottom xD

foggy hazel
#

Hei is talking in general :)

stoic island
#

Fair enough

#

But yea controller temp is ~40c

cursive wharf
#

usually sticker does help as a heat transfer device for the top, which could effect bottom

#

I never looked into it so idk much of what to expect

foggy hazel
#

generally, as long as there is a tiny bit of air flow in the case, everything will be fine

stoic island
#

I haven't either.

#

I wonder if d15 would give it more airflow or take away airflow

cursive wharf
#

but half my random talk tends to be "what to look out for" rather then proper info

stoic island
#

Since the ssd is under the heatsink

kind shuttle
#

Eh some of these standoffs just don’t wanna budge

cursive wharf
#

I mean didnt D15 cool VRMs decently well in one of the recent GN coolers video ?

foggy hazel
#

@kind shuttle you ever worked on a bicycle crank/chainring?

cursive wharf
#

as such probs that SSD as well

kind shuttle
#

Nope

foggy hazel
#

darn, because that could explain the concept a bit easier

kind shuttle
#

One of them is just intent on not moving at all

stoic island
#

I remember d15 vrm temps being good..?

#

lemme take a look again, saw it on the freezer 2 review

foggy hazel
#

which specific one @kind shuttle ?

kind shuttle
#

I’m going to murder every single one of u

foggy hazel
#

oh?

kind shuttle
#

HOW COULD U DO ME LIKE THIS

buoyant flame
#

Excuse me?

kind shuttle
#

NOBODY SAID THERE WAS A TOOL THAT CAME W THE CASE

#

😂😂

foggy hazel
#

i told you to read the manual did i not?

kind shuttle
#

My case manual is a big sheet of paper

#

I looked for stuff on standoffs

foggy hazel
#

where the tool is listed on

kind shuttle
#

Couldn’t find any

#

Doesn’t matter anymore

stoic island
#

D15 had the best overall VRM thermals excluding Arctic freezer 2.

kind shuttle
#

Reddit saves the day again

foggy hazel
#

you could also just read the manual like you have been told :)

#

just saying :)

kind shuttle
#

It doesn’t list it on the manual!

#

Ha!

foggy hazel
#

there is a "this is contained in the box" list

#

unless that has been taken out recently

kind shuttle
foggy hazel
#

well, that has changed then

#

not anything i can do about that

stoic island
#

Sometimes manuals don't help with content location :P
I couldn't find the NT-H1 tube with my d15 for a while bc it was packaged in a weird spot

kind shuttle
#

I install motherboard now?

celest horizon
#

Don't take the wrong meaning from that graph though - 100c would be "hot" for most mosfets

foggy hazel
#

@kind shuttle aye

#

unless you want to do a boot test outside the case?

kind shuttle
#

Ur the expert here

foggy hazel
#

i would recommend it

#

makes things easier for you in the long run IF something is wrong

kind shuttle
#

Would u mind walking me thru it

foggy hazel
#

aye, no problem

kind shuttle
#

Sweet what do I need

#

Monitor I assume

foggy hazel
#

get your gpu and psu

kind shuttle
#

Ok

#

I haven’t touched the gpu yet

#

Still in the box

foggy hazel
#

unpack it :)

#

its a tiny thing (your model that is)

kind shuttle
#

Ok

#

Give me a couple minutes I’m gonna tidy up my work space

foggy hazel
#

aye aye

kind shuttle
#

My psu is in the case at the moment

#

Should I take it out

foggy hazel
#

nah, you can leave it there

kind shuttle
#

Ok

#

Do I need kbm

foggy hazel
#

nope

#

just monitor

kind shuttle
#

Ok

foggy hazel
#

(plus what has been mentioned already)

#

you are going to want to find the "pin definition" manual part

kind shuttle
#

Ok

#

I have everything

foggy hazel
#

okay, lets start with getting the gpu sorted

#

it has been unpacked?

kind shuttle
#

Yep

#

Unpacked is has been

foggy hazel
#

now, this might sound a bit weird, but you are going to place the mainboard, so that when the GPU is plugged in, the "metal bracket" on it, goes "into" the gap there is at either end of the mainboard box

#

make sense?

kind shuttle
#

Kind of

foggy hazel
#

try and then post a picture :)

kind shuttle
#

Wdym by gap at the end of the box

foggy hazel
#

the mainboard box, should have a gap in the cardboard, when it is closed

#

between the lid and the edge/side of the box

kind shuttle
foggy hazel
#

see where you mainboard

#

right next to the backplane (where the usb ports are) there is slight "gap"

pastel briar
foggy hazel
#

that is where the bracket goes

kind shuttle
#

Crazy plane the case came w the tip of that tool that u can use screwdriver w

#

But thanks

#

Can u possible draw an arrow on the picture showing me

#

Naed

foggy hazel
#

2sec Atlas :)

kind shuttle
#

Thanks

foggy hazel
#

(and internet ofc takes this moment to be flaky as all heck, so IF i dont post for a bit, just have paitence. i am not going anywhere)

pastel briar
#

Ok, I was posting it as I said I would 😉

kind shuttle
#

Ok

#

Thanks to both of u

pastel briar
#

no problem, I am here to help as I can 😄

kind shuttle
#

Where’s the best place to get a cheap windows key

Real Ahsoka tano#0824 has been warned

Reason: Bad word usage

foggy hazel
vivid coral
#

some just asked me if i wanted a 750 ti for 50 $ isnt that card like dodo

foggy hazel
#

@kind shuttle excuse the dust, random piece of museum hardware from the storage closet that i pulled out

#

notice how the edge of the card in the picture goes "into" the gap?

kind shuttle
#

Yes

#

Should it be standing on top of the mobo

foggy hazel
#

your gpu goes into the first big slot on the mainboard

kind shuttle
#

Ah

vivid coral
#

some just asked me if i wanted a 750 ti for 50 $ isnt that card like dodo
@vivid coral

buoyant flame
#

Its not great. I wouldnt get it. If you need a budget card I would look for a used 580 8gb on ebay

#

If its under 100 that is

kind shuttle
#

Naed I don’t get where to plug gpu into mainboard

vivid coral
#

no when i buy my gpu itl be like a 2060 ersum

#

i was wodering if it was evn worth humoring it

kind shuttle
#

I see where the metal part goes into the box

foggy hazel
#

@kind shuttle you see how you have 3 horizontal slots on your mainboard right?

#

2 big and one 1 small

kind shuttle
#

Yes

vivid coral
#

yo y dont he just facetime u and show u

#

on discord

foggy hazel
#

because that would not enable others to learn anything @vivid coral

vivid coral
#

ah i see

#

ight imma head out

foggy hazel
#

@kind shuttle check the pins on your GPU, is there a protective cover on?

kind shuttle
#

Yes taking them off now

#

Wait

#

There’s covers for the hdmi and DP ports

#

Oh found it @foggy hazel

foggy hazel
#

:)

kind shuttle
#

Now what

foggy hazel
#

got the GPU installed in the mainboard?

kind shuttle
#

Yep

foggy hazel
#

with the bracket in the gap?

kind shuttle
foggy hazel
#

good

#

now, you have the pin out part of the manual?

kind shuttle
#

The page telling me what part of the board is what? Yes

#

There’s also a QR code for detailed pin definitions

#

Should I need that

foggy hazel
#

well, i can show you here what you need

#

that is the actual pin out of the 9 pins

#

do you know "where" on the mainboard that is?

kind shuttle
#

Yes

foggy hazel
#

the only two pins we care about right now, are pins number 3 and 4 in the upper row (counting from left to right)

kind shuttle
#

The Led- ones?

#

Wait

#

I was looking at it the other way

#

What are the pins labeled

#

The ones ur talking about

foggy hazel
#

(not trying to be mean here, but it makes everything (later on) easier if you tell me which pins you think i am talking about)

kind shuttle
#

If I’m looking from a birds eye view of the motherboard

#

Then

foggy hazel
#

look at the picture above

kind shuttle
#

Power and ground on the 1st row

foggy hazel
#

yes

kind shuttle
#

Ok

foggy hazel
#

now, there are 2 ways to activate them (and yes, this is on purpose that we are talking about it now, before the PSU is plugged in)

#

way number 1: plug in the actual power button from the case

#

way number 2: use a screw driver and bridge those 2 pins (this has the same effect as pressing the power button on the case)

#

it is entirely your choice which one you want to do

kind shuttle
#

Should anything be connected to power right now

#

At the moment nothing is

foggy hazel
#

no, on purpose that nothing is

kind shuttle
#

Ok

#

Just checking

#

Which way is more idiot proof or safer

#

If such a thing exists for this

foggy hazel
#

because i didnt want you to "skip ahead" and decide running a screwdriver randomly across the board (if there was power connected) was a brilliant idea

kind shuttle
#

I figured that wasn’t a good idea

foggy hazel
#

as long as your hand is steady, the screwdriver is safe enough

kind shuttle
#

When do I get to stick the fork in the socket?

#

Ok I’ll do that

foggy hazel
#

after you are not playing around with the pc anymore

kind shuttle
#

Hehe

foggy hazel
#

then you can play all you want with the fork and the socket

#

okay, so now you know what comes AFTER we connect the psu

#

and just to check, but you have screwed in your PSU to the case right?

kind shuttle
#

Yea that’s what the case manual said to do first

foggy hazel
#

aye aye, no worries

kind shuttle
#

Later realized that was less convenient

foggy hazel
#

just move the mainboard box assembly over next to the case, and we can start figuring out what cables go where

kind shuttle
#

I’m ready

foggy hazel
#

it should be quite logical

#

find the biggest cable

kind shuttle
#

Got that

foggy hazel
#

that should be a 20+4 pin bugger

kind shuttle
#

Yep

foggy hazel
#

it might come "assembled" or it might come as a 20+4

kind shuttle
#

That’s the main power to board right

foggy hazel
#

aye it is

kind shuttle
foggy hazel
#

in it goes

#

it can only be turned one way

#

notice the "latch"

kind shuttle
#

Yep

foggy hazel
#

then next, find a 8 pin that has a CPU label on it

#

or EPS label

kind shuttle
#

There’s only one 8 pin

#

And it doesn’t have a label

foggy hazel
#

that should be the one :)

#

that goes in the upper left of the board

kind shuttle
#

Ol

#

Ok

foggy hazel
#

between the heatsinks up there

kind shuttle
#

Yea

foggy hazel
#

and then you have the PCI-e plugs

kind shuttle
#

For future what’s the best way to unplug those

#

Just tug on them?

foggy hazel
#

those are 6+2

#

all the plugs have latches

#

trigger those and just grip the plug and gently pull

kind shuttle
#

That’s l

#

Ok**

foggy hazel
#

found the 6+2 plug?

kind shuttle
#

Yep

#

Labeled pci-e

foggy hazel
#

aye, that is for the GPU

kind shuttle
#

L*

#

Ok

#

The 6 and the 2 just plug in next to each other?

foggy hazel
#

i cannot remember if your GPU requires 6 or 8 pin

kind shuttle
#

It has 8 openings

foggy hazel
#

if 8, then yes, just next to each other, there might be a very small "guide" rail on the plug itself (to help you push them in at the same time)

kind shuttle
#

Is that important

foggy hazel
#

(this is something that has a habit of changing over time)

#

as long as the plug goes in, it doesnt matter

#

but some plugs will not allow you to plug the 6pin and then the 2 pin

#

if that makes sense

kind shuttle
#

Yea

#

Does it matter which side the 2 and the 6 go in

foggy hazel
#

the combined 8 pin only go in "one" way

#

there is also a latch on that one (normally)

kind shuttle
#

I see

#

Got it

foggy hazel
#

okay

#

now plug in the monitor to the GPU

#

whatever cable you want (hdmi/dp/whatever)

kind shuttle
#

Ok

vivid coral
#

does he have a usb for wd10

foggy hazel
#

read before asking please :)

#

you would know that he isnt at "that" part of it yet

kind shuttle
#

Ok dp cable is plugged in

vivid coral
#

i no but hes getting close

kind shuttle
#

Im gonna do that soon

#

While I eat

#

After boot test I’m gonna make the usb stick

foggy hazel
#

@kind shuttle connect the powercord to the psu

kind shuttle
#

I don’t need to worry about the other psu cables?

foggy hazel
#

and nope

#

nothing to worry about there

#

you have all the power you will need now

kind shuttle
#

Ok

#

Done

#

How far back should I stand 🙂

foggy hazel
#

then just touch the 2 pins we talked about earlier, and the system should boot

kind shuttle
#

What was the other option?

foggy hazel
#

plugging in the cable from the case

kind shuttle
#

Lemme double check I’m using right pins

foggy hazel
kind shuttle
#

It’s the last two on first row right

foggy hazel
#

the ones right next to the "missing" pin

kind shuttle
#

Yep

foggy hazel
#

with the label "PWR BTN" in the picture above

kind shuttle
#

Do I have to turn psu on

foggy hazel
#

just touch and remove screwdriver

kind shuttle
#

I didn’t do that

foggy hazel
#

yes, if it isnt done :)

kind shuttle
#

Haha ok

#

Whoah

#

Think it worked

foggy hazel
#

things should be spinning

kind shuttle
#

Yes

#

They are

foggy hazel
#

and after a bit, the display should come on

kind shuttle
#

Yep

#

It worked

foggy hazel
#

good

#

now just turn of the psu

#

on the switch on the back

#

(as in, the on/off one)

kind shuttle
#

Yep

#

It’s off

next tangle
#

https://pcpartpicker.com/list/9x7J27 So I'm planning to get all the parts that aren't marked as purchased, feel free to change to see which seems best! I'd just want to know if that's the best list I can do for that price, an extra 50-100$ is fine.

stoic island
#

oh my

vivid coral
#

yo hes helping him build a pc rn hold off

stoic island
#

very expensive fans

kind shuttle
#

Nah it’s fine

foggy hazel
#

and now you can just disconnect the PSU from both the mainboard and the mainboard and the GPU

kind shuttle
#

Chat isn’t moving that fast 😂

next tangle
#

Oh I'm super sorry, is there a different chat I can go to

foggy hazel
#

dont worry about it

next tangle
#

You sure

foggy hazel
#

aye

kind shuttle
#

Totally fine

next tangle
#

@stoic island Yeah, I wanted to match the fans on the AIO

foggy hazel
#

@kind shuttle when things are disconnected, and the GPU has been unplugged from the mainboard again (REMEMBER there is a latch on the mainboard for the GPU)

#

it will be time for you to put the mainboard into the case

next tangle
#

Also, anything cheaper than that price listed for my list would be awesome.

stoic island
#

I mean, if you lose the 3 ML fans, you can get a better build for sure..

foggy hazel
#

grab the Pure Base 500 DX case instead.

stoic island
#

Naed, not in stock anywhere I can tell

kind shuttle
#

Where can I get a cheap wd10

next tangle
#

Alright

kind shuttle
#

Key

obtuse frost
#

Is the ryzen 5 3600 worth it

foggy hazel
#

@stoic island ah, its in stock over here :)

vivid coral
#

they sell cheep keys from china but u need the wnd insatller form wid

stoic island
kind shuttle
#

Naed where u from

foggy hazel
#

Denmark

kind shuttle
#

Nice

next tangle
#

Yeah, super expensive @stoic island

stoic island
#

I gotta watch the pure base 500 review again to see if it was alright

#

all I remember was 500dx was quite a bit better but

next tangle
#

I'd like to know if it would be okay to cheap out a little bit and get the 5700XT MSI Mech model

#

Because it's cheaper, would it be worth it

foggy hazel
#

see pm @kind shuttle

stoic island
#

I mean, just a quick look at the first two sentence of the GN review

next tangle
#

So no on the pure base 500?

foggy hazel
#

lets ask like this instead: Is there any reason you want to spend another 100 usd to "fix" a case?

next tangle
#

No

stoic island
#

The pure base 500 stock is pretty low on the chart

next tangle
stoic island
#

I believe so

#

the p400a digital is one of the best airflow cases for the ~100$ range, but trying to see if the non-rgb one is the same case.

next tangle
stoic island
#

wayyyy overpriced on that

#

oh wait

#

wrong seller

next tangle
#

I was about to say 😂

obtuse frost
#

diypc visionii-bl black usb 3.0 steel/ tempered glass atx mid tower case is it worth it

stoic island
#

OOS rn tho

foggy hazel
#

@obtuse frost it has a arse first RGB system

next tangle
#

The diypc case fans look a little weird ot me.

foggy hazel
#

i have had the "joy" of guiding someone through building in it

#

i would strongly prefer NOT doing that agian

next tangle
#

lmao

obtuse frost
#

I don’t know much about PCs and I need to know what’s a decent case and not too expensive

next tangle
#

naw we all know you'd LOOOVE to help someone with it again

foggy hazel
#

that case is not worth the headache you will have building in it @obtuse frost

next tangle
#

I was gonna go with the H510 because I like the look but people said it has bad airflow

obtuse frost
#

Okay thank you @foggy hazel

foggy hazel
#

you are very welcome @obtuse frost :)

gloomy rivet
#

hello, would anyone be willing to see if my pc is good?

next tangle
#

So would the 275R airflow be good?

gloomy rivet
#

tbh i dont know what im doing lol

stoic island
#

@next tangle should be alright if it's at a good price

next tangle
#

Alright

stoic island
#

@gloomy rivet I assume you use PCPP?

gloomy rivet
#

yep

next tangle
#

Any other recommendations for the case?

gloomy rivet
#

should i send the link?

stoic island
#

DM me the list and I'll send it on your behalf

next tangle
#

Alright

#

Oh wait, me or him

#

😂

foggy hazel
#

@gloomy rivet the bot will eat your link :)

gloomy rivet
#

oh i see

stoic island
next tangle
#

So everything else on my list will be fine?

gloomy rivet
#

ty @stoic island

foggy hazel
#

you are not in the US @gloomy rivet ?

gloomy rivet
#

oh i am

foggy hazel
#

@next tangle there are plenty of other things that could be "fixed"

gloomy rivet
#

is there a role assign thing?

next tangle
#

Oh, like what?

stoic island
#

Expensive corsair fans

#

Also, that AIO probably isn't the best option for you

next tangle
#

How come?

foggy hazel
#

@next tangle quick run down: fans, aio, ssd, hdd, gpu

next tangle
#

oof

#

What's wrong with the ssd, hdd and gpu?

foggy hazel
#

overpriced, not needed, and depending on other changes, you have budget room for something much faster

#

@gloomy rivet not really :)

next tangle
#

is that about the ssd?

foggy hazel
#

thats about the ssd, hdd, and the gpu, in that order @next tangle

gloomy rivet
#

oh oke

next tangle
#

ohh

gloomy rivet
#

yeah this is my first pc so

#

idrk what im doing im not a tech guy

foggy hazel
#

@gloomy rivet any idea about where you are going to get the case from?

next tangle
#

Well, I want the 3TB of storage because I'm a editor, renderer, youtuber and a gamer

gloomy rivet
#

oh, i bought it already @foggy hazel

next tangle
#

Because I chewed up 1TB like a breeze.

modest kraken
#

Im building my first pc and its very budget for work and occasional light gaming just wanted to get some thoughts on if there is anything I still need and anything in here I should avoid or any other thoughts (please don't roast me it my first time I tried)

Processor (CPU)
I5 3470t

Motherboard (MOBO)
Gigabyte

Graphic Card (GPU)
Gigabyte geforce gtx

Memory (RAM)
Crucial 8gb ram

Storage (SSD or HDD)
Wd5000bpkt 500gb 7200rpm

Power Supply Unit (PSU)
Corsair 550w VS series
CPU Cooler
Cooler Master ma410p

PC Case.
Corsair Carbide Series 110R

foggy hazel
#

@gloomy rivet noted :)

next tangle
#

And got external storage again, 1TB and chewed it up like a breeze.

foggy hazel
#

@modest kraken please make a pcpp link

stoic island
kind shuttle
#

Naed the metal tabs just seem to get in the way

#

What even is the point

next tangle
#

I don't really want to change from the 5700XT since this is a gradual upgrade so I'm buying the GPU first.

foggy hazel
#

they are "guide rails" from a bygone era @kind shuttle

modest kraken
#

what is a pcpp link

next tangle
#

Should I go with the MSI Mech 5700XT?

stoic island
#

@gloomy rivet can you tell us what you already bought?

kind shuttle
#

Can I bend them out of the way @foggy hazel

foggy hazel
#

@kind shuttle aye

stoic island
#

Because there can be better options for most of the parts on that list

next tangle
#

@foggy hazel Should I get the MSI Mech 5700XT?

foggy hazel
#

just be certain you dont bend them into a position that makes them poke something in the fixed IO shield

gloomy rivet
#

lol, everything but i can always return i didnt know about the server until recently

#

oops

stiff adder
#

Alright so I just helped my brother upgrade his pc and the only thing we kept was the cpu, hdd and ssd. Now we're getting nothing but input not supported on our acer monitor. We've re seated the gpu, and ram and still no. I'm thinking its a driver issue or just the monitor. Anyone have an idea?

stoic island
#

Well um

gloomy rivet
#

thats unfortunate :/

foggy hazel
#

@gloomy rivet please dont take this the wrong way. But a lot of the parts are really overpriced or badly specced for the other parts

gloomy rivet
#

i see

#

im not suprised lol

#

im very inexperienced like i said

stoic island
#

Naed, I feel it's prob worth returning 2600 for a 3600, then returning ram for ripjaw v 3600mhz kit, and maybe save some money on the ssd, and a better GPU?

next tangle
#

@stoic island Why isn't the AIO right for me?

foggy hazel
#

all of it goes back imo @stoic island

#

maybe aside from the Optix

#

and potentially the case, depending on the price

stoic island
#

I remember that case being a good cost

foggy hazel
#

@gloomy rivet could you tell us the price you paid for the case?

gloomy rivet
#

let me check

foggy hazel
#

@stiff adder you are currently at the back of the queue, but recheck your cables, all of them.

gloomy rivet
#

about 100

stoic island
next tangle
foggy hazel
#

@next tangle the "detail" about your build is that generally, it is just mismatched like heck.

next tangle
#

Oh, how's it mismatched?

gloomy rivet
#

does it seem like i would have to return everything?

foggy hazel
#

please read over what both @stoic island and myself have been saying @next tangle

kind shuttle
#

Can’t seem to get my board to push right next to the IO shield

foggy hazel
#

let me grab a link for you @gloomy rivet

stoic island
#

If you look at the list I sent, that is the performance you Could be getting at the same price

foggy hazel
#

give me 2 minutes @kind shuttle

gloomy rivet
#

damn it i should have found this server earlier before buting

buoyant flame
#

The io shield may not be pushed in all the way @kind shuttle

gloomy rivet
#

buying

kind shuttle
#

Ok

stiff adder
#

Would the cpu (1600af) on an x570 be the problem?

next tangle
#

Oh @foggy hazel sorry, I didn't see anything you guys were saying to me because you guys were also helping other people so I got confused who you guys were talking to.

stoic island
#

I'll just ping to make things easier to see

kind shuttle
#

Should all of the ports in the rear of the board b even with the IO shield?

foggy hazel
gloomy rivet
#

im just worried i wont be able to return now at this point

stoic island
#

@next tangle Buying AIO is usually a bad decision for price to performance

foggy hazel
#

@gloomy rivet ignore the summary at the top, but that is just the GPU difference between that Mr1111 linked and what you linked

next tangle
#

Oh, why is that? @stoic island

kind shuttle
#

Naed are the mobo ports supposed to b flush w the IO shield

foggy hazel
#

watch all of it, that willl answer that question.

next tangle
#

alright, watching it

gloomy rivet
#

damn thats a big difference

stoic island
#

Yes, that would be good

#

might take a while kray, just a warning

foggy hazel
#

@gloomy rivet sorry mate

gloomy rivet
#

well i know the msi monitor is definitely a keep right?

foggy hazel
#

@kind shuttle lets have a look

next tangle
#

dang, i just saw it's 30 minutes 😂

#

good thing i finished all my online school work

gloomy rivet
#

hmmm i dont know if ill be able to return everything actually oof

kind shuttle
#

U can kinda see

#

Hold on it’s sending

stoic island
#

Also another warning, some margins might look really high in the video, but that's because everything is grouped together, so a big difference in the chart could just be 2c difference @next tangle

gloomy rivet
#

thats a bummer lol

stoic island
#

so try not to skip around without reading and listening

next tangle
#

alright @stoic island

foggy hazel
#

@kind shuttle the IO shield is supposed to "snap" into the case (kinda like you can see on the right hand side in your picture above)

kind shuttle
#

It is snapped in

next tangle
#

One thing, the fans I picked are 2 packs, I chose 3 because 3x2 is 6 and 6 fans are supported in the case.

kind shuttle
#

It’s fine if there’s a tiny gap between IO and motherboard?

foggy hazel
#

@gloomy rivet i would strongly recommend having a serious look at what you can return and what you cant. And to make certain it is clear. The case and the monitor are keepers.

#

@kind shuttle look at the standoffs

#

if you have access to them, then everything is okay

kind shuttle
#

Ok

gloomy rivet
#

@foggy hazel Thanks. I'll look into it thanks for the help

foggy hazel
#

@kind shuttle sidenote: just like the CPU cooler, just get the first screw to catch in the standoff

#

@gloomy rivet you are very welcome, sorry we couldnt give you more happy news

#

@stiff adder still there?

next tangle
#

alright, so what I'm getting out of this video is I should go with an air cooler?

#

thanks forks

foggy hazel
#

its been 11 minutes

kind shuttle
#

Lmao

foggy hazel
#

that is a 30-ish minute video

kind shuttle
#

Naed what’s next

next tangle
#

I meant that as at 12 minutes in

kind shuttle
#

After mobo is in

stoic island
#

In my opinion, there is only 1 acceptable AIO for medium budget, and that is Arctic freezer 2, so that's an option if you REALLY REALLY want AIOs.
but @next tangle but you really should watch the whole thing, not just the first bit, the last 10 minutes or so they talk about ups and downs of both air and water.

foggy hazel
#

@kind shuttle got the mainboard screwed in ?

kind shuttle
#

Yep!

next tangle
#

Okay, thanks @stoic island

foggy hazel
#

there are a bunch of cables "in" the case that needs to be connected to the mainboard

#

plus power cords ofc @kind shuttle

kind shuttle
#

Yea I see those

foggy hazel
#

some of the cables are fairly obvious, they can only go in "one" location

kind shuttle
#

Are there ones that are better to do first for cable management

foggy hazel
#

whatever you want really

kind shuttle
#

Ok

foggy hazel
#

cable management is something that is done diferently from person to person

#

so, you do you :)

stiff adder
#

Yeah

#

We put in a 2200g to test

#

Still no

#

@naed

foggy hazel
#

where exactly are you connecting the monitor?

#

@stiff adder

#

@modest kraken you trying to post a link?

modest kraken
#

ya

foggy hazel
#

send it to me instead, the bot will keep on eating it (its spam prevention)

sudden turret
#

his links are just /list

#

lol

foggy hazel
#

no need to laugh at that.

sudden turret
#

I can laugh.

stoic island
#

lmaooooo

sudden turret
#

we need the other link 🙂

stoic island
kind shuttle
#

naed I only see 2 chassis fan connector

stoic island
#

only reason tomahawk max is b450m pro is outta stock and placeholder, before anyone asks.

kind shuttle
#

Where can I put the 3rd

stoic island
#

what board?

#

also, check manual

foggy hazel
#

it needs a splitter that we have forgotten @kind shuttle that is my mistake

kind shuttle
#

where does the splitter go

#

And can u link me one so I can buy it

stoic island
#

wait naed what board is it?

foggy hazel
#

Pro Gaming

kind shuttle
#

fan only needs 3 pins but connector has 4 is that fine

sudden turret
foggy hazel
#

thank you @sudden turret was in a DM talk with him about it

modest kraken
#

with i5 3470t

#

thanks guy

next tangle
#

Oh dear lord

#

An a320 motherboard with an intel processor

foggy hazel
#

@kind shuttle yes

pastel briar
#

Yay got everything more or less moved into the server rack, the IBM server is chugging along with Folding at home

foggy hazel
#

and give me a bit @kind shuttle , i will find a link for a splitter

modest kraken
#

I dont really know wich mother board to get

next tangle
#

oh no it's okay

buoyant flame
#

You look thrilled @pastel briar

next tangle
#

Naed will probably help you

modest kraken
#

so what should i do

pastel briar
#

@foggy hazel what type of splitter is being requested?

@buoyant flame I am just not a photogenic person 😄

stoic island
#

A320 is not the right chipset for intel, and the wrong socket too.

pastel briar
#

Yes I am wearing my IBM shirt 😄

buoyant flame
#

:)

foggy hazel
#

@pastel briar please read the chat :)

stoic island
#

I believe they need a 4pin fan splitter.

modest kraken
#

i have no clue what that means

pastel briar
#

@foggy hazel I am trying to, chat keeps bumping as im trying to read it 😄

#

ah the trusty 4 pin

stiff adder
#

Alright @foggy hazel soooooo. We put in a 2200g with a 5700xt, didn't work. Then just the 2200g, nothing. Thennn! We put in the old 1050, and it booted straight to windows off our old boot drive(ssd). I'm lost.

next tangle
#

Alright, the video is over.

modest kraken
#

is this for me or someone else

foggy hazel
#

@stiff adder sounds like missing power

stiff adder
#

Can you do me please

#

For photos

#

?

#

Dm

modest kraken
#

what should i get instead of the a320 if i have a intel chip

foggy hazel
#

@modest kraken i honestly dont know quite where to even logically begin with you

modest kraken
#

is it all a mess

foggy hazel
#

its something alright

#

@modest kraken do you currently own anything on that list?

pastel briar
#

@modest kraken what are you looking to do and what features do you need/want?

next tangle
#

@foggy hazel LMAOOOO

modest kraken
#

only the cpu and hard drive

stiff adder
#

The power is four 6 pins turning into two 8 pins. 2 6 pins per 8 pin. The connectors came with the 5700xt

foggy hazel
#

@kind shuttle the link @pastel briar posted, IF it shows stock on your end, that works)

modest kraken
#

i just wanna be able to get work done and play some games like rocket league or madden

stiff adder
#

And both blue lights are on on the gpu

next tangle
#

Anyone know what are some good fans?

foggy hazel
#

@modest kraken long story short is this: the cpu you have is really old

modest kraken
#

oh

#

so should i get like a amd

foggy hazel
#

as in, it got introduced to the world 8 years ago

#

it is not that we cannot find the parts

modest kraken
#

oh

next tangle
#

since he already owns 2 of the things on that list, he could take away those from the list to bring the price down then add like a 3200G

foggy hazel
#

just that it would NOT be worth doing so for you @modest kraken

next tangle
#

well right now, get a 3300G

foggy hazel
#

does that make sense @modest kraken ?

next tangle
#

but then he has an a320 motherboard..

modest kraken
#

i can get a different motherboard

kind shuttle
#

Naed does the front IO power cable go into the F panel

next tangle
#

well what's your budget for the build? @modest kraken

#

including a monitor im guessing

foggy hazel
#

@stiff adder just because the connectors came with the GPU does not mean they have to ALL go in

modest kraken
#

about 550

next tangle
#

alright

modest kraken
#

plus the monitor

next tangle
#

and what do you currently own?

modest kraken
#

nothing this is all new to me

foggy hazel
#

@next tangle would you please stop repeating my questions and cluttering the chat with useless stuff?

next tangle
#

oh sorry, i didn't see that you aske these

#

asked*

foggy hazel
#

@kind shuttle picture please

#

@stoic island you got time to make a low budget machine for @modest kraken ?

stoic island
#

Sure

#

what's the budget?

foggy hazel
#

550 usd it seems

pastel briar
#

How low budget are we talking?

foggy hazel
stoic island
#

Me?

foggy hazel
#

yes please

stoic island
#

Alright.

foggy hazel
#

seems like there is a certain amount of random traffic in this one tonight

pastel briar
#

guess no one is going to answer the question so i can put a budget build together.....oh well

buoyant flame
#

Definitely

stoic island
#

Wait naed, do you know if 1600af price coming back down to usual?;;

#

oml I'm battling my keyboard it keeps typing ;

foggy hazel
#

@pastel briar it was just above your question :)

#

i dont think it is likely mr1111

#

but factor in the 3300x

#

its right around the corner afterall

stoic island
#

ugh do we have release date for that?

#

I might take a second with my keyboard

#

; might be stuck

foggy hazel
#

We're expecting to get these CPUs in for testing sometime soon. They are set to be launched in May.

pastel briar
#

I wasnt sure if that was the absolute max or if that was there "I really don't want to spend more then, but $X amount is really the ceiling for my build that I can spend"

foggy hazel
#

you guys can take that up with @modest kraken

stable ledge
#

Is there a channel where I can ask for help at?

foggy hazel
#

@stable ledge in theory here

#

a bit of a queue at the moment, so please have patience :)

modest kraken
#

ill take any suggestions

stable ledge
#

Yeah so I built a PC a couple weeks ago for my brother and it boots up fine, works fine, but crashes after like an hour or so

#

Nonstop BSOD's

#

Only ordered the parts a few months ago, have had them sitting in a box until recently

#

wat do

foggy hazel
#

need a lot more details to offer anything. Lets start with you making us a pcpp list please.

stable ledge
#

My assumption rn is the mobo or CPU is shitting itself, but leaning more toward mobo

#

Yeah I can do that rn

foggy hazel
#

but as mentioned, that is just so there is info for someone to work with

#

a bit busy myself at the moment

pastel briar
#

@stable ledge do you have a picture or screen cap of the BSOD error (stop code)?

stable ledge
#

Oh several

#

Multiple BSODs

#

Have updated all drivers

#

Reinstalled windows

pastel briar
#

if you can send them I can at least start helping you

foggy hazel
#

@stiff adder okay, a bit of time now.

#

you said something about a dm in the middle of all of that?

stable ledge
#

kernel security check failure, page fault in nonpage area, memory management, IRQL not less than equal, system service exception, system thread exception not handled

kind shuttle
#

@foggy hazel when u get a moment I could use some help

foggy hazel
#

ask away @kind shuttle

kind shuttle
#

I’m connecting front IO cables to F panel

pastel briar
#

IRQL is typically a drivers issue, but having the screen shots so i can see exact codes will help (you can dm them so its not cluttering the chat here)

kind shuttle
#

Which pins does the reset SW connector go

#

And which one does power SW go to

foggy hazel
#

remember the 9 pin connector from earlier

modest kraken
#

@foggy hazel for the mess that i have what should i be looking at changing

kind shuttle
#

Yea

#

I got the led pins and the HDd pins

foggy hazel
#

@modest kraken @stoic island is currently looking into it for you

modest kraken
#

oh thanks

foggy hazel
pastel briar
#

there usually is a Reset + and RESET - (or if power, sometings it may Pwr+ PWR-) that your reset/power switches should go to

stoic island
#

Naed, I was trying to figure stuff out with a replacement lower end option from a 1600af, can't find much right now... My keyboard is acting up, I'm gonna try and open it up and take a look, is it alright I leave them with you @foggy hazel ?

foggy hazel
#

sure @stoic island

#

thanks for the try :)

kind shuttle
#

Naed the problem is which way the power button connector goes

#

It doesn’t say which pin is pwr and which is ground

#

On the cord that comes from the button I mean

foggy hazel
#

on the back of the connector itself, there will be a small "mark" on one side

#

@kind shuttle

#

that is the "positive"

kind shuttle
#

There’s a little triangle

foggy hazel
#

aye

#

thats the mark of the positive side

kind shuttle
#

So that connects to ground

#

or vice verse

gloomy rivet
#

wait the pc i got sent wouldnt work lol

foggy hazel
#

@kind shuttle yes

stable ledge
#

sure

foggy hazel
#

@kind shuttle its really simple, when everything is up and running, if the reset button doesnt work? flip the connector.

@stable ledge what PSU?

stable ledge

I forget the exact model, but its like a 650 GW or GQ or something

Ill check

foggy hazel

@pastel briar that was @stable ledge

@ebon fulcrum overpriced for what it is.

i accidentally sent a message in the other channel

@sullen spoke yes and editing the selector is the simple solution

@sullen spoke do yourself a big favour thou, have a windows install usb ready when you do it :)

np

kind shuttle

Naed I think I’m almost done

foggy hazel
#

oh?

kind shuttle
#

Cable management is a little messy but part of that is the non modular psu

foggy hazel
#

aye, that is the tradeoff

kind shuttle
#

I kinda just zip tied the extra ones to the thing where the hard drive is usually mounted

foggy hazel
#

aye aye

kind shuttle
#

So they’re at the bottom out of the way

#

The F panel connectors were a pain in the toosh

foggy hazel
#

the only one that the cabling matters for is you

kind shuttle
#

True

foggy hazel
#

the hardware doesnt give a toss

kind shuttle
#

What do I do now

foggy hazel
#

and yes, front panel connectors are .. interesting ...

#

got the GPU plugged in again?

kind shuttle
#

Yep

foggy hazel
#

try and power it on again (with the monitor plugged in)

#

just to check that things are actually working

kind shuttle
#

Ok

pastel briar
#

@foggy hazel yuppers, got it, thanks

foggy hazel
#

because the next step is closing it all up and plugging things in and getting the windows install started

#

np @pastel briar

pastel briar
#

@stable ledge you have driver issues, you need to boot to safe mode (F8 typically) and then log into your admin account, then once in safe mode go to your device manager and right click and check for updated drivers

#

after that run the following commands, SFC and CHKDSK to repair corrupted system files and bad sectors

#

Type: sfc /scannow and hit Enter; Let the program complete the scanning process so as to find and repair corrupted system files.
After that, type: chkdsk <your OS drive letter here>: /f /r /x and hit Enter

EXAMPLE: chkdsk C: /f /r /x and hit Enter

Sorry for the wall of text, hope it helps, if you can do that and then let us know we can take it from there but mostlikely based on your Bsods this should be all that is needed

kind shuttle
#

@foggy hazel how do I check it’s working w out the screwdriver thing

#

Monitor is hooked up

raw igloo
#

Can I put links in this chat?

pastel briar
#

Opps I did it again..... orders rack mount case for PC build

foggy hazel
#

if you hooked up the front panel, then the power button works @kind shuttle

#

@raw igloo if relevant, yes

pastel briar
#

if your PC turned on after pushing the button for power it is working as expected @kind shuttle

kind shuttle
#

It’s on!

#

What’s next

pastel briar
#

cheers YAY!!!

raw igloo
pastel briar
#

well the next step is to let it boot

#

😄

foggy hazel
#

check that your reset button works @kind shuttle

kind shuttle
#

What should it do when I hit it

pastel briar
#

just reset the PC

#

reboots it

kind shuttle
#

I think it did that

#

Yep it did

#

Now what

pastel briar
#

ok then let it fully boot and log in and play around

foggy hazel
#

and then hold the power button for 4+ seconds

#

that should make the machine shutdown

kind shuttle
#

It did

foggy hazel
#

there isnt a OS there yet @pastel briar

kind shuttle
#

I have the installer usb

foggy hazel
#

grab a keyboard and mouse

kind shuttle
#

Got it

pastel briar
#

@foggy hazel ah didn't know the OS wasn't installed yet, my bad

foggy hazel
#

(the 4 second thing is a way to teach something, without it feeling like that)

#

because it is 100% not needed

pastel briar
#

yea, I asked that originally not relizing the OS wasn't installed yet

foggy hazel
#

@kind shuttle plug in the usb and boot from it

kind shuttle
#

USB plugged in and it’s on

#

Now what

#

Shouldn’t I check to see it recognizes all the things

#

Ssd, ram etc

#

Nvm it says that

#

One question

pastel briar
#

restart the PC and boot into the USB drive, (you can also use the BIOS [Press DEL on most PCs or what ever key is designated by your mainboard mfg] to tell the system to one time boot to the USB drive)

kind shuttle
#

If I have 3600 speed ram why does it say 2133 on screen

pastel briar
#

you have to go into BIOS to set the XMP profile

foggy hazel
#

because of XMP settings

#

ignore for now

#

not important really

pastel briar
#

but for now were just trying to get you running, XMP can be set later

Did a fresh windows install and having driver issues. Getting a NVIDIA INSTALLER CANNOT CONTINUE when trying to install the latest drivers for my 2080 super. Any insight?

pastel briar
#

Possible driver conflict, you may need to run the DDU and wipe old drivers off to correct

#

then reinstall using GeForce experience

kind shuttle
#

Do I press f1 to start setup? Or do I hit delete key

pastel briar
#

@foggy hazel have a good sleep mate, its only 22:20 here

@pastel briar even in a fresh windows installation?

kind shuttle
#

Delete doesn’t seem to do anything

pastel briar
#

how fresh are we talking?

empty patio
#

Like brand new nvme drive with brand new windows just booted up. Only drivers installed is the Lan

#

Fresh fresh lol

pastel briar
#

you kinda have to be quick on the ball some time, some boards may be F1 instead, but basically we just need to boot into the BIOS, or have the system auto boot to USB to install windows

kind shuttle
#

Ok so restart and mash delete?

pastel briar
#

@empty patio is the RTX card installed currently, all power connectors hooked up correctly, and are you using the GeForce software, or the drivers disk that came with the card?

@kind shuttle if the system does not auto boot to USB yes we can restart and "mash" the del key (just below insert)

foggy hazel
#

@kind shuttle its f2 on your board (for getting to bios)

#

and thank you @pastel briar

#

likewise when you get there.

pastel briar
#

@foggy hazel your welcome good sir/madam 🙂

kind shuttle
#

I tried it with both buttons and it didn’t seem to do anything

foggy hazel
#

check your manual @kind shuttle

kind shuttle
#

Right

foggy hazel
#

its mentioned there, and that is the end of me for now :)

#

later :)

pastel briar
#

please note were only giving general advice/suggestions, referring to the manual will be best to ensure were on the correct path

empty patio
#

@empty patio is the RTX card installed currently, all power connectors hooked up correctly, and are you using the GeForce software, or the drivers disk that came with the card?

Yeah installed correctly. Card was tested on previous build earlier today, downloaded new drivers from Nvidia website.

Make sure you didn’t get laptop series

kind shuttle
#

Crazy there’s 2 options for the USB for some reason

empty patio
#

Nope verified it was the desktop drivers

kind shuttle
pastel briar
#

@empty patio ok it looks like your using the disk based driver installer, which IMO is hot garbage, also if that is the laptop GPU installer that will not work on a desktop card

use this instead, should have better results and get the correct driver https://www.nvidia.com/en-us/geforce/geforce-experience/

@kind shuttle yes F8 boot menu looks to be what we need, then select USB

NVIDIA

NVIDIA GeForce Experience Auto Update Drivers and Optimize Game Settings

#

just take the one that reads UEFI: USB and drag to top of the list

kind shuttle
#

Ok

pastel briar
#

UEFI: USB is the one you want to select

kind shuttle
#

I clicked it

pastel briar
#

looks to be the middle one

kind shuttle
#

Now it’s doing something

#

My house is on fire now!

pastel briar
#

then hit OK, APPLY, YES, RESTART (what ever the button reads)

kind shuttle
#

Got it

pastel briar
#

@kind shuttle if your house is on fire please, exit immediately, call 911 and request the FD to come put the fire out
