its fine
i have a 2600x with the stock cooler and an h500 too, its perfectly good temps
Oh okay
Thank you
I’m really upset about my monitor because it’s really old and I can see the pixels and some are dying and it’s starting to have ghosting
But my dad didn’t let me buy one even though it fit my budget
Idky
office depot and office max are having a sale on 1080p 144hz monitors for 125, if that helps
well, now it has been bumped up a little to 140, but still a good deal
I just bought the AOC, but MSI will definitely be a better purchase for the same price
@silver meteor
-3700x and 3800x are basically the same in perf due to PB2
-That mobo is overkill for your needs
-samsung is overpriced
-case doesnt have good airflow
any good 1440p monitors for sale
@cursive wharf I’m Elmo, I got that advice already but I got really good deals on everything
Remember
what fps can a 2060S and 2070 run 1440p at, respectively?
60fps on mhw
sounds about right
hi
look up bench mark comparisons
aight
Hi
Hello there
Do you have a console?
Nintendo switch
my dad is saying i should install the fan that came with my cpu
but i bought a coolermaster and we don't know which one to put in
What is the CPU/stock cooler?
What specific type of coolermaster?
Cooler Master Hyper 212 LED w/ 4 Continuous Direct Contact Heatpipes, 120mm PWM Fan, Quiet Spin Technology , Red LEDs, Intel LGA1151, AMD AM4/Ryzen
I would think the aftermarket cooler, but if you have enough thermal compound you could do a benchmark test with each fan to see which one holds up better
So my cousin wants a PC that she can use to edit photos/draw with for around $300. Anything that needs to be changed or is it all just bad? Im pretty new to making PCs so I'm not sure on the specifications for different activities. https://pcpartpicker.com/list/4xQWtp
Yo one of my case fans is not working and i dont know why
also can I use a psu that comes with a case or should I change it out?
used market is your friend for such a budget. PSU I worry about as skipping out on a good PSU can be dangerous.
Guys can someone help me?
Hey guys I'm still new too the whole PC thing and just wanna upgrade my pc since I've just got a Dell desktop and kinda stuck a GTX 1050 in there with a 250 watt PSU I was wanting to upgrade it with a new case and motherboard, and just wondering should I go for AMD CPU or Intel
Hey can I install windows 10 onto a 64gb ssd?
should be fine windows is supposed to only be 10gb but my own windows folder is using 23gb and my user folder is another 15gb so 64gb will get tight but its the smallest size I would say is acceptable
i need help with a specific problem
tell us the problem
i think i may have asked this earlir but my cpu came with a cooler but i bought a different one and we don't know which one to install
i bought the ryzen 5 3600
and it came with a wraithmaster i think it was cooler
but i bought a hyper212 cooler
and we dunno which one to use
i have a tomohawkb450 motherboard too
Wraith master? not a wraith spire LED edition?
Oh the stealth, riiight, it's not an X skew
it's useable, but if you have a better cooler with an AM4 bracket go ahead and use that
the hyper cooler or the motherboard?
hypercooler
I'm not really sure how much better the 212 hypercooler will be than the wraithcooler but probably slightly better
my dad says the wraithercooler is better because its "direct" contact but this other one purports that too
okay i gotta figure out which one I wanna put in
that's kinda how coolers work, they are all direct contact with paste for heat transfer
XD
yeah but we don't know which one is "better"
I'm more of a fan of the Wraith Spire (copper core) and the Wraith Prism
your much larger cooler with much larger surface area, that's the better cooler
it just needs a good fan on it if it doesn't have one attached already
so just the bigger sized one is the better option most of the time?
key words I said, "surface area"
most of the time more surface area mean better cooling
and larger coolers with fin stacks have that
yeah every resource I'm reading says the aftermarket coolers (a lot mention the hyper212) are better than the stock ones that come with the cpu's
that's true most of the time
now something like a Wraith Prism I'd use over an after market cooler
the Prism is possibly the beefiest stock cooler around, with heat pipes and a fin stack, with the added advantage of being down-fire meaning it can blow air over the ram and VRMs
that and it's got addressable RGB making it the coolest looking stock cooler too
my dad was swearing that the stock cooler was the one we should use
and tbh in that moment i didn't understand which either but I did some research and I think I am going with the aftermarket I bought
if it was a Prism I'd agree, spire or stealth better to just go after market
yeah i got the 212hyper or something like that
and my understanding isn't technically deep or anything but from what I understand the aftermarket ones tend to run cooler than the stock ones and I'll take that possible extension onf the life of my pc
Spire is useable but for what it ships with it doesn't offer much overclocking room
... WFT it doens't show up as a video
that's minorly annoying
when the video is too large it wont embed
lol
i guess
but yea surface area is the biggest factor if a cooler is good at cooling (usually)
and stacking thin metal fins together maximizes surface area
Stock cooler or hyper 212 eveo, that i dont know where the mounting for it is
(Amd r5 2600)
well if you don't know where the mounting bracket is then you can't use it
but if you do find it use it
all the AMD stock coolers are passable and work well for stock settings
but if you have the opportunity the stealth or spire could be replaced for better coolers
I built this PC with my dad. How does it look?
why does the CPU power reach across the front?
there should be a place in the back to route it
I'm sorry you might need to dumb it down for me it's my 3rd build
see those holes that lead to the back of the case, that's where wires go
Ah I really don't know why
Yeah better than I could do on my own
I got alot of help with the liquid cooling
I've only made fan cooled
there is a hole right next to your power supply, unplug every power and push them though that hole
then pull them back through near where they need to plug in
Oh ok will do that in the morning
normally I have mine Ziptied down, but I needed to cut the ties to take out a fan today and I'm swapping the case in a week so no need to re-tie them lol
this is technically my 3rd build
next weekend will be my 4th and 5th builds
as case swapping is pretty much rebuilding the entire thing XD
and I'm putting stuff back into the old case for a new build too
But it's made with my dads old pcs
still good cable presentation can go a long way
it also makes things easier to upgrade later
Untill I get a new case I'm good for now
I would love to ge one of those monitors with a displays on the glass
And some rgbs
is ryzen 5 1500x and a gtx 1060 good
yeah, were you talking about mounting the hyper 212 on an AM4 socket?
i was just saying the old AMD mounting system still exists on AM4 boards
@shut spoke yes, I used a 1060 6GB and a Ryzen 7 1700 and they worked perfectly together
Good for 1080p 60 in a lot of stuff
the little clip that comes with the hyper 212
Umm wat?
it's okay but maybe there's a better time to talk about this
See there is a lever and clip on the side instead of a bracket with screws in the bottom
If I'm being annoying
The cables a bit in the way, old photo
why thank you
Hunny you're totally okay you just might want to ask these questions when not tired
because mounting coolers is serious business
Well I'm not tired but I'm just not being big brain
Just that kinda day
i know the feeling
Look up AM4 retention clip on youtube
Video is probably the best way to understand
i'm gonna specially purchase a hyper T2 so i don't have to deal with the horrible screwing down of a wraith cooler
😂
hyper T2 is better anyway
yes, but some of the wraiths do not work with retention clips
I know, I also have a spire
Well I just learned that it was a pre built that my dad took apart and we rebuilt
The spire is easy to install imo
It was a custom but he took it apart
you might have a better motherboard mounting thing
One of his employees made it
oh gob
or maybe they wanted to look 1337 as hell to people walking in the office
I'm planning on buying a new case so I can fix it up
I would kill to have that at my security job, we get a shitty i5 in a pillbox itx build with a laptop cooler to watch all our cameras on only 2 screens... Shoot me
Omg lol
Yeah I'm suprised when I saw that image
I need to count how many monitors that is
Ok its eight
Here I can send the video card and mother board
No one here understands watching 10 high-res camera feeds will be the death of the i5 build they gave us
I'm bad to ask about cases, I pick the most bargain bin cases that can still handle the higher end of stuff
He helped me build it during Thanksgiving since I got to visit him holidays I'm going to test it out with my capture card this Christmas
For making a $2500 build I sure skimp on the case xD
So I'll need to get it shipped up to where I live
So I need to fix it during break
Currently updating a rig and looking for a recommendation on a GPU upgrade it has a 1060 3gb looking for a closer to budget style card
Oh God a 3GB 1060...
yes i forgot those existed
I'd like white case probly going to add some leds
Gf bought a prebuilt before we met so im just finishing a build for her for xmas 🤫
that specifies the amount of RAM on the card
No it's definitely the 3GB, the VRam just couldn't handle modern titles from what I heard
No I mean what's 3gbs not what is the ram
Also i hear a lot of people shy from the 1660s have ypu had the chance to use one @dry tinsel
i haven't
i'd like a chance
1660 Super is also specifically different in that it uses GDDR6, so it's a special card among the low budget offerings nvidia has
Okay
When I RMA'd my VII I had to go back to my 1060 for a few weeks, I was not happy
you have a VII? that thing is a beast
well that sucks, i heard better about it
Also any one use Cable mod custom cables before¿
Did you plug the display into the motherboard or the video card?
The video card
Has it booted prior or is this your first attempt
yo whats a 2070 ti lol
It has booted prior but now it’s not
Also why is it so hard to find white pc parts 🤔
I have a rx 580
Ryzen 7 2700x
Msi b450 tomahawk
Thermaltake 700w smart
G.Skill TridantZ Rgb 16gb
Does it boot to bios
No
Oof
sometimes building a PC is a bloody mystery
It has before
Facts @dry tinsel
^
Fml
sometimes a build will fail and there will be no real reason
I’m just wondering what
If something is fried unless you got another of everything it can be hard to tell what's damaged
Any one know what kind of set up I could get for 600$?
So annis, the main thing the VII has going for it is it's 16GB 1TB/s VRam, it kinda future proofs it for games with extreme textures
But it's not super practical for right now
$600 can make a decent entry level gaming computer
yeah, the HBM2
if they'd use the HBM2 on 5700/XT that'd be a game changeer
-e
if they could keep the prices the same, that is
the bandwidth would be unheard of in a GPU at that level
@Cøbalt#5307 https://pcpartpicker.com/list/WnpPFG
This is a decent $620 PC (not including OS)
And the upgrade path is top notch too
The VII is amazing, when it feels like it lol
Like all of a sudden getting 500 extra points in time spy

Radeon VII has a brushed aluminium shroud and back plate... Not quite white
It's also locked into red light accents
It can go in a white themed build, but it's kinda not a good value for what it is
Though looks wize I love it's all metal design and very boxy look
Love the build and back lighting @jade grove
when you'll never have a high end GPU
Thanks man!

best i'll be getting is an RX 5700
but it'll... probably handle the 1440p ultrawide i'm getting... p-probably
Are there any good widescreen monitors for (australian) $200 max?
do you mean normal 16:9 aspect or ultrawide
ultrawide
at one point we called that widescreen format
LG 25UM58-P 25" UWHD UltraWide IPS LED Gaming Monitor: Monitors: Amazon.com.au
this looks pretty good
though a little small
also australian amazon is a bit expensive now isn't it
AUD is not that much lower in value than USD to really justify it
unless they include taxes or something
in which case yeah, it makes sense
oh and the whole, having to ship everything to australia
probably a thing
https://www.amazon.com.au/Samsung-Flat-Ultra-Monitor-LS34J550/dp/B07PLM68XY/ i'm getting this thing and it's only like $288 USD
Samsung 34" Flat Ultra WQHD Monitor, LS34J550: Computers: Amazon.com.au
I still prefer high refresh 1080p on absolute max settings
And depending on the game 144fps isn't even acheiveable on extreme settings with 1080p XD
Some games take the whole graphical setting way too far
yes
i only have a GTX 1650 lol
so i'll be running games at 1080p, just ultrawide 1080p
Cranking the resident Evil 2 game from earlier this year up to absolute max can make even a 2080TI struggle
yes
i plan to have an RX 5700 eventually here though
so that will suit this display nicely
Nice :)
i'm poor, so i have to buy things in steps
monitor because i need to replace one that failed
then i need to buy CPU to finish my build
And used my bonus from work to get a 3700X
oof
I worked around my limitations to make a build far above my normal means :)
i'm on a fixed income because of disability, but on the plus side i pay low rent, so i have the ability to buy something along the lines of a $200 CPU + cooler or a $350 GPU or monitor when i want to, but i'd have to save a lot of money for months to buy a really A tier GPU
and yes, i'm doing the same
buying an R7 2700 with a hyper T2
have a define nano S, + ITX board
RM 750 power supply
Nice
hyper T2 has a big important advantage over the stock cooler: it raises up from the board, and well a second is you can use a retention clip for it and you don't need to do the screwing in screws and all of that nonsense
i have fine/gross motor problems and anything that makes the PC easier to build out is always better: the worst part is always the front panel connectors, i always dread them
I can imagine
In that case why not save the money on the cooler and get slightly better CPU that comes with a retention clip stock cooler?
which CPU is that?
2700X
that's a high wattage CPU that offers a modest improvement
It comes with a Wraith Prism which uses the clips
You have a PSU that can handle it
And board
Yea that's pretty normal for most B350 boards
But yea if using a cooler with clips is your main concern and you already 1/2 a step under a CPU that comes with one might as well just go that little bit higher ;)
Reason: Bad word usage
oops
RIP
it runs hot and the cooler is massive
Massive? 🤔
might want to delay installing the cooler until i've plugged everything in
the cooler hangs over the front panel I/O
at least it looks like
2700X would be a big jump in performance though
judging from the 4.3GHz turbo
The prism is a really nice cooler, and it's downfire so it can cool the VRMs better
yeah that's nice
i assume the X they're expecting you to overclock
hence VRM cooling
Well all ryzens can overclock
well yes but
with 104W on what's essentially an R7 2700
you have a lot of room to overclock
the voltage has clearly been bumped too
because the TDP has
these are just chips that have binned higher level than others that can handle a higher voltage/wattage and more clock speed
my RM750 is more than ready to power that thing
I kinda skipped 2nd gen ryzen so i have no idea how cool it runs on the prism
Jumped straight from a 1700 to a 3700X
getting 2nd gen this time is just for cost reasons
it's cheaper and it's nearly as good
Yea
But I can say the 3700X runs at about 78C when under a decent gaming load on a prism
that's good
But I also use a high quality paste
i use arctic mx-4
which is... good enough
small bead, allow the cooler to spread it across the IHS
So I had an idea for my """laptop""" idea. Build in an XBOX One original case. Big enough to hold an SFF power supply, mATX motherboard, and a GPU on a riser no problem
xbox heug
I'm using kryonaught paste
kryonaut is definitely nicer than MX-4
It's worked well for me and I haven't experinced the pump out effect like others have
i have to order it from china, though, because newegg likes to offer half their items from china
oh what's that... pump out
Where the paste heats and expands and flows out the sides
obviously using too big of a paste blob
Not nessisarially
Kryonaught doesn't cure so it heats and expands and contracts repeatedly
and let me guess, it's conductive?
seems to just have very different properties from other thermal compounds
curing can be a bad thing
Its also kinda expensive when it's not on sale, $20 for a single gram
arctic MX-4 is pretty good in its own right, it's one of the carbon compounds, basically very finely pulverized ceramics
it'
it's very different
from the aluminum based ones that are most common
The super different is carbon graphite pads
yeah those ones i haven't seen at newegg
Interestingly enough the VII comes with a giant graphite pad
But it's kinda glued in so taking it apart will ruin it
you'll rip the little cores off your GPU
the pad is likely needed to cool all the VRMs and such
Who cares as long as it works XD
probably was a convenience measure, to provide an interface material that covers everything important
and is obviously better than those white sticky pads
Hey guys
i've outfitted an HD7870 with little heatsinks with sticky pads
and a big fan on the GPU
also hey
Do you guys know around how much a Zotac gtx 1050 mini would be worth selling? I’m trying to sell my old components to make money for a new pc
50 bucks probably, there isn't a huge used market for that sort of thing
i mean it costs a little more than $100 new
but you end up losing out when you sell used goods unfortunately
Reason: Bad word usage
?
yes that happened to me earlier
certain words are prohibited here
it just happens i was not used to it
How does that even happen?
trying to get by the wordfilter probably doesn't help
I’ve noticed absurd pricing sometimes on there
R VII pad works well as is, it's a different material vs the normal stuff.
It's just extra steps lol ^^
R VII is a pretty magnificent beast from a tech standpoint
It's done!
sorry, them's the breaks - these are artificially inflated from unscrupulous sellers
the actual price should be a little over $100
Aaah okay
Nice, I'm sure you'll be happy with the system.
I'm glad the earlier folks didn't talk you out of what you wanted too far haha. If anything I would've gone 3200c14 4x8 - but even in the US, that's not cheap off sale
@little osprey That's what I choose, its 2x if u look at it
Almost any CPU and GPU can be paired
Also one more question
3200c16, but yes. It won't matter for your case, but when you get up to 4000c17 or 4133 18 18 18 38 etc - it's usually a good idea to get 4x8 vs 2x 2x8
oh right, true
Yes technically
@ RyokuHasu amen , I wish I took picures of amd/nvidia same board
will it work?
Anyway @ SnowDCrow - I have a similish build, feel free to hmu if you have questions down the line
Oh wow that's a nice monitor
also I meant gtx 1070, 1080 1080, rx580 lol
Sweet
I'd aim for a 3200 kit myself, but 3000 is still good
@little osprey I did so much research on the monitor and ended up choosing that one... now I need a 27inch to pair it up
If it's $100 or less I just tell everyone to get a b450 /m gaming plus / tomahawk max whichever is cheap, if neither, i go for whatever the 3000 page long overclock.net threads for those motherboard owners say they prefer
Unpopular opinion, use a 2nd pc for that 2nd monitor if the primary one is primarily for gaming. $150 2nd pc is easily enough.
I have a 24" and a 24.5" monitor but since the slightly larger one has ultra thins bezels they sit at the same hight side by side :)
Well - at least until windows fixes DWM and g-sync
It's more of an anoyance / convenience factor vs $150 on top of - whatever that list of parts was haha
having a 2k 27 next to a 4k 27 was pretty unpleant too , need to sell one lol
well goodnight
Night
here it's 2:26
@little osprey Second monitor would be for OBS, Discord, Youtube, Twitch while I play
what makes a water block good or not? fin density?
Fin design, corrosion resistant materials, flow rate
The motherboard I plan on using (msi b450 tomahawk max) has 4 x 4-pin fan headers. Does that mean that I can only connect up 4 case fans? Also, the fans I'm planning on using (and that come with the case, be quiet! Pure Wings 2, 140mm) have 3-pin connectors, will those be compatible with the mobo? Is that 4th pin just for rgb or something?
i think the 3 pin pwm fans have a 4th blank spot so the SHOULD be compatible (check forums and reviews to be sure) and as for the amount of fans, you could always use a splitter if you need more fans
3 pin fans are DC only. If you plug them into a 4 pin slow that's set to pwm mode, they'll be fine, but run 100%
Ah that makes sense. i thought there i was something missing lol
Depends on fan model technically, but ya
oh so they always run at 100% speed?
Look up the datasheet for the fan model
yea I'm really new to all of this, so what it means is that the fans wouldn't change speeds depending on the needs? The 3 pins are just positive, negative and a ground?
Okay that makes sense, then I suspect I can also just plug in 2 3-pin fans into a 4-pin Ysplit cable?
Amazing, then I can have 3 in and 3 out fans 😄 now I guess I should figure out if I'll need fan cable extenders
Oh mhh, maybe I should check if it comes with one of my parts too, I'm kind of a be quiet fan
some of their drive mounting stuff is just so hard to figure out, but they're wonderful overall
pun not intended
be quiet is also quite good
i like fractal because they offer cases without windows
my cable management is adequate but not spectacular
:3
How should I have my fans mounted then? I can have max 3 on the front, 3 on top and 1 at the back. I'm thinking of 2 at the front (air in), 1 at the back (air in), and 2 on top (out)
that sounds like a sound way to handle things
hehe, I love the be quiet 801, It's way too overkill for what I'm building but I wouldn't wanna build it in any other case
mhh
lemme make a lil' sketch
https://www.newegg.com/p/N82E16811352061 this is my case, note the purposeful lack of a window because cable management in this case is A Challenge
The air from the bottom would come from the gpu
oh i see, well that's a nice case
oh that looks cool, I like small cases
certainly simpler mounting than the fractal case
there's like two mounting brackets for HDD/SSD
and you screw the disk on the bracket prior to screwing the bracket on the case
hehe probably yea, I'd route all air out the back but there is only space for 1 an
yep
yea it slides out, for easy mounting
Maybe I do 3 fans in the front (in), 2 on top (out), and 1 in the back (out)
just make sure you get that positive pressure
also true
guys, does anyone of u know how to remove the front of a Corsair 100R?
don't think 1 fan out would be plenty tho, so maybe 1 on the top and one at the back out
i unfortunately have no experience with that case
oh hey we found the same post
xD first result
lmao thx
yea
#building-and-recc-chat is lively tonight
Think this will do 😄 3 in the front, 1 in the back and 1 on the top
small case, less fans xD
i want to get a 3 way fan splitter, so i can put two noctua NF-P14s up front
hi
I was thinking of doing a small white themed build, but since this is my first attempt at building, I figured I'd start with an easier layout.
oh yea, do 3 way also exist now?
oh they have for ages
there are like 5 way that have a PCB with the fan connectors
and a molex to power them 😂
mh I might just have to get 1 3 way splitter instead of 2 2 way splitters then
amazing
https://www.newegg.com/noctua-nf-p14-flx-case-fan/p/N82E16835608017 the pressure fan
these are golden
expensive though
when i get an RX 5700 in there i'm gonna need those
that static pressure
there are cheaper noctua fans but like
nobody else really makes a specialty static pressure fan
https://www.newegg.com/fractal-design-fd-fan-vent-hp14-pwm-bk-case-fan/p/N82E16835352024 nevermind 10 dollars less
and looks like it might be a bit better quality in terms of having some anti-vibration mounts
yea, noctua might be a little quieter though
well no worries then
you can't hear anything with a mechanical 3TB toshiba drive (not known for their silent disks as WD and Seagate are)
my build failed the first time so i'm getting that new CPU
and trying it again
oh wow, that's cool, don't you want to see your system running though?
Yea, I'm not into rgb and stuff, but I'd like to see those fans spinning quietly 😊
less noise trumps the visual stimulus of seeing fans
also i love the cold cathode lights
from back when we still used those
Yea not sure what those are
you can buy them still if you just want to light up your case nicely
without RGB strips
hmm
is it just a led strip or something? like chistmas lights?
this is one in action
see it's a tube like fluorescent lights
but it doesn't get hot like those tubes do
this is an ancient build, obviously
oh it looks cool tho
that's gotta be like a GeForce GTX 8400 or something in there
maybe even the 8800
with 384MB of RAM
2006-era system
lol I just got my granny's old desktop, it has like 256gb of ram, dual core processor, wanna take it apart before I build my own system, to see how it all goe
mb*
that is
my first rig was purchased from a shop
433MHz Pentium II class Celeron, 96MB RAM, 9GB SCSI-II HD, integrated graphics, and probably a soundblaster 16 equivalent sound card was included oddly enough
2000 was a good time, i was 17, had this job since i was 16, felt confident in buying a computer so i did
alright take care
I had a computer from 1995 up until about 2008 and I didn't know anything about computers at the time, after it broke down completely I just used laptops until a couple years ago
My laptops kept frying cause they all had poor cooling for playing games on them constantly
Oof
Guys hello :D
I need some help!
Got an aorus master z390, and im wondering if i can install two small m.2 ssd in there (2280)
@hollow sonnet whats up
Your board should have three m.2 slots on it.
Yes that's just fit different sizes of m.2 cards. They all are rated at the same interface speed
so what current issue are having with it
or are you just wondering where to put them
Mm the issue i put the first one in the small slot and it fit perfectly
But the 2nd one wont fix perfectly as the other
Isn't there a problem with that?
is the b450 steel legend mirco atx compatiable with amd ryzen 3
Not out of the box
im super new to all of this can i still use that borad
@hollow sonnet what do you mean it is not fitting perfectly. Do the pins still go into the connector with not issues
board sorry typo
If you update the bios on the board it will be compatible. But you will need a older gen 2 cpu for that step
ok thanks
I'm talking about the size, because the "small slot" it have a screw that you can use it "secure" the ssd to the motherboard
As long the other slots are larger, the ssd won't get there, the connector will fit perfectly
Becasue a 2280 m.2 is shorter than a 22110 means it should fit in the upper slots as long as the connector is working with the drive. Along with this the thermal spreader will hold the drive down with out a srew in the drive itself.
what 450 boards work without needing to flash the bios for 3rd gen
Any board that has the official Ryzen 3000 Ready sticker slapped on it
I know a decent amount of ASRock boards are pre-flashed
This one says it supports 3rd gen, it's an MSI board
Has 5 egg score
All board that Say max by MSI
Can someone please help me with my gpu?
hey guys, just an update from about a week ago. I was able to double check and the red lights on the msi pro carbon lights indicate that the ram is being read properly. just giving an update on what i finally found out.
oh the ram is good. i was reading other things online that were false. on the board, the red lights mean that the ram is working properly. i thought it was an error indication
so everything is working properly.
i thought i was having an issue with my msi x470 motherboard where all the lights were on above the ram.
i thought the red lights were showing as an error and not as they are working. (typically red lights show error.)
it just shows an empty list
an empty list?
but i do have a question. if you get a new processor and motherboard, is there a way to keep windows 10? or do i need to get it again?
@sudden turret well my Strix GTX970 worked all good a few days ago. But it had crashed once. Then the other day the pc crashed again and the 3rd time it didnt turn on anymore
mobo is tied to the windows key
Reason: Bad word usage
is the fan working on the graphics card
can you recall the temps you had before the crash Rcoket?
i had the same issues a few weeks ago
I put my old hdd into my entirely new pc and I can use my windows 10 fine
where my fan quit working and i had to get it fixed. it was getting stuck from dust on the guarding and i just removed the guarding
ty bjorn
@sudden turret well they were a little high. I believe about 55 degrees after it had crashed and had been turned on again
Ye
I would suspect driver issues
i would keep the covers off, update drivers and keep an eye on your fan.
when is the last time you took the fan apart to clean any dust/debris out of it?
Me?
yeah
Ok there https://pcpartpicker.com/list/2CdRK4
but are they full of dust? it could stop air flow. also, what about fans going into the pc
I think
Ive got 3 input and 2 output fans
and are all fans going towards the pc or do you have exhaust fans blowing out
okay.
And no theyre all clean
i would try to resurface it with a dab of thermal paste
I opened it up and the thermal paste is all dried out
see if maybe there was some speration and it the heat sink is not making contact
But could that really be the reason for it not to work
yes
Thats one thing i tried
what is it during gaming
have you checked overclock settings
Go ahead
proper psu wattage?
Tried all the output ports on it?
it powers on until you see the bios setup and where you can hit del and the other keys and just shuts off?
if you wait a few min. it lasts longer?
have you let is sit for a while first to let it cool?
You've tried all the outputs on the card?
@sudden turret i dont think thats the problem bec i had a R9 280x before with a higher Wattage and that worked fine
@knotty sluice yes for a day already
have you tried to replace that
you said you pulled it off and the paste was hard.. did you reapply new paste
@knotty sluice i have removed the cmos battery already and updated the bios
okay. and the paste was hard
clean it with some high % rubbing alcohol on a q-tip or cotton ball gently. and try new thermal paste
@knotty sluice i dont have thermal paste. I ordered it though but that wont come for a while
the thermal paste sounds like its the best option at this point. you may have lost the connection between the heat sink and the board
go to best buy or a close computer store. its only like 6 bucks or so
I can combine it
I have to buy a new cpu cooler.
If thermal paste comes with that would that do fine
??
the cooler might/should come with it applied. but not always.
Ive got my eye on one with seperate thermal paste?
i mean thermal paste is cheap. cheaper then buying a cpu cooler.
I’m new to PCs and I had a quick question is it possible to swap out my ram I have and put a better ram in?
and you can put it on anything that has the heat sink. which could fix all the problesm
yeah I wouldn't run it until you applied new paste
problems
@sudden turret i wont
you could burn it up or damage something else.
like i said. if you have a best buy, i think even target or walmart may have it. but take a look. its cheap and might be an easy solution
@knotty sluice you dont have that where I live
Yeah I have a trident 3000mhz but it’s only one and I want to install up to 32
I only have one bar of 8 atm
@little osprey how much GB dus or mobo support?
Your welcome
okay question for you guys, if you use intel processor do need nvidia graphics card? or can you use an amd? or does it matter on motherboard
Doesn't matter
cool thanks.
if i have 3600 ram but my mobo only supports 3466 will i just use 3466??
i don’t get why i supports 3466 and then 4000 but no 3600
It should be fine at 3466 and I imagine if the max is 4000 then 3600 will also be fine
can someone help
We should have a #rgb channel 😂
I want to ask about getting some icue strips for my 500D
Do I need more controller, or can I use the one that comes with the case?
I’m new to building and have got a 16gb of vengeance 3200
Ryzen. 5 3000
ASUS prime 450ma
Gtx 1660 oc
240gb ssd
550w
Any advice
for what?
Everything
Corsair ram is generally overpriced, Asus prime b450 is bad for its price, 1660S is barely more than a 1660 for quite a bit more perf. which SSD model, which PSU model?
I got the mother board cup and ram for £250
Psu is a Corsair modular not sure which
CXM?
And a western didgital ssd
Just get CX cuz CXM has coil whine issues
Cant wait to get a 10900k
Just going to be a 9900k with a slight OC tho
so you need 2 screens
and you'll be gaming too correct
Yes
I code on a 10 years old PC , and use my phone to open references and stuff lol
like 1080p 75 or 144hz or smth
Yes that what I thought
well that would work
Like 1 1440p 240hz and 1 1080p 60hz
ye
Sure if you can
ok brb
ok
so o
it's hard to find a 1440 240hz monitor for a reasonable price
so I did 1440 155hz
or 165 i don't remember
i don't even think current ports have enough bandwidth to support 240hz @ 1440? could be wrong
ye just so you know
the cooler and the kbm can change
you can pick those if you want
just put those in to show it fits in budget
because that cooler expensive and you might want to pick one you like more
@silent pivot do u like the rgb?
cause u could save a fair amount not getting it, but its ur choice
cooler
Oh ok
the ram too but its 32gb of fast ram made specifically for ryzen
The mobo I guess could be b450 but
idk
with a cpu like thag
that
might as well get the newest platform
I should go full unicorn barf
you can
Or else I am not a good gamer
you have a lot of room for rgb strips and fans
Rgb is nice to have

heres a build where i kind of went away from rgb, but i would change the gpu to the xc ultra as its really close in price, and much better cooling and and overclock way better https://pcpartpicker.com/list/BtTL9G
and a little cheaper slower kit of ram, but if you look at benchmarks the ram doesn't really matter 3600mhz cl16 or 3200mhz cl16
Ok
ye that gpu is better
like I said cooler subjective
I'd keep the ram though
you said money is not a problem
Yeah it really isn't
I can blow 5K on a pc but I don't think that I need a PC that expensive
Nah
if money wasn't a problem i'd look at going with a ips 1440p 144hz monitor instead of tn tbh
unless you want a third gen threadripper you don't need that kind of cash
yeah doesn't like aoc or something make ips monitors at those specs
tn is good for more budget and esports players, va has great contrast but bad ghosting, and ips is the middle with the best colors with slower response time than tn but faster than va
yeah are you gonna play e sports titles
like csgo and overwatch and other stuff like that
Probably not
ok ips
Like alot more story based games
ignore the prices, some ips monitors have been like $330 sometimes
Ok
https://www.officedepot.com/a/products/412439/Viewsonic-VX2758-2KP-MHD-27-WQHD/? heres the cheapest ips ive seen recently
Sceptre was rated the best of the SUPER budget monitors by LTT
if you really want high refresh on an extreme budget
I don't need a cheap monitor
ok nvm 😄
I'll just be over here... In budget 165Hz land 😉
heres the one i have rn, its a great solid monitor if you don't see price as that much as an issue https://www.pixiogaming.com/px7
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07VJJXDBX/? if you dont want to spend 430, heres another decent one (dont own it cant tell how good it is but doesnt look bad)
yeah id say it could last a bit longer than that
Oh nice
considering how powerful the specs are
@royal pelican 😄
What?
Best cpu to pair with 2070 super?
Gaming only or multi purpose
Some intel CPU likely be good, wait for someone more experienced than me
Oooo, I plan on getting those in the future.
Original price was about 150$
But on bf
I got for about 90
I still waiting for my water lock
And
Coolant
To come in
And I might just buy another 970 pro 512gb to run raid
And a 9900k
9900ks is going for 800$ on amazon
Lol

It’s kinda bad I’m using these rgb drives mainly for looks
And backup
But I guess 300$ for some more rgb
Worth
good call on the k over the ks
both videos I've seen of people comaparing the 2 the 9900k outperformed the 9900ks in overclocking
didnt even linus's 9900k get higher stable speeds than the 9900ks?
yeah I mean that would make me angry
